Another great MG3 video 👍🏻 really appreciate you taking the time to make these as an MG3 owner I find them invaluable really interested to know if these cars have hydraulic valve lifters ? Be great if you could show one from that disassembled head Keep up the great work Mark 👍🏻👍🏻
No they're not hydraulic so it's important to keep them in order. Once the correct buckets have been fitted, there is no need to adjust the valve clearances in the future unless new valves have been fitted or the old ones reground. Yes I can show one in a future video. Waiting for an engine to arrive so there will be an update on this car.
A lot of people have been sold the "chain's for a lifetime" myth and think that "slipped valve timing" only applied to rubber timing belt engines, they neglect the timing chain at their engine's peril.
Hi guys great video. Just doing my first mg3 chain and valves at the moment and I have a question. I was blowing the headboard holes out to remove any water etc and glanced under car because oil was coming from timing chain end and noticed a black plastic dowel about an inch long with a domed head and was wondering if you had ever come across such a thing or maybe a foreign object off something else but can't recall seeing it there beforehand. Many thanks for excellent videos and info 👍
It goes in the end of the inlet cam. See the other videos in this series, I point it out. You'll get a new one in your chain kit, it's white. Make sure you fit it before putting the sprocket on.
Thanks for quick reply. I've seen the video where you point that out and unfortunately it's not that . If I take a picture of it when back at work us there any way I can send it to you to see. As mentioned it may not even be off this job but being relatively unfamiliar with these cars I'm unsure 👍
I wouldn't worry too much. It gives plenty of warning before any damage is done. if you notice bad cold starting and cutting out and/or engine light on then get it looked at asap.
Great video. Did the timing chain slip because it was left on too long or did a tensioner fail ?
Ouch! Great video Steve, thanks for sharing 👍

Cheers mate 👍
Damn, that thing is right knackered! If that were my car I too would be like, “send it!” Gnarly pistons and all, just a new/used head! Take care!

Nice one Steve, thank you
Ok thanks. Hopefully my car will live for a long time.

Been advised problem with chains was that they didn't use recommended spec and consequently they stretched.

Yeah, email me a pic. pistonbrokelr@gmail.com
New engine required 😢
Headbolt not headboard...
i call that failed ingeniering, must be a kia
U snooze U loose
whoever thought an interference design was good.
Moor power and space saving etc but yep when it goes it goes.👍
Customer dont believe a person i have tried to tell them
seems to me these MG lumps are not all that quality wise atb
2016 onwards are fine. It's the pre 2016 models that suffered with this
@@pistonbroke this is like when people run things till they break and then think putting oil in will make it all fine. To late.👍
Hi. My MG3 is a 2015 model. Regularly serviced and pretty low mileage. Should I be worried?
