The blue color from sorcery would have really made the Mars palette something special. IMHO And switching it for one of the brown shades and putting a brown shade in dynasty would’ve grounded that one much better. IMHO good show!

Amazing comprehensive video, I immediately subscribed! Especially love the thought process, I’ve never heard eyeshadow color theory articulated the way you did it and it made total sense. I also tend to look for a “velveteen bedroom eye bronzy color”-what was the palette you pulled out at the 29 minute mark? That color looked so lovely and creamy. 😍 TIA!

I love your final palette! It may lean a little warm for me, but after many iterations of HLP style disassembly and creation of custom palettes for myself I’ve come to realize my home palette is a pretty basic mix of browns, golds, the errant mustard, and sparkly neutrals.
It’s basic, but it’s SO useful and when I have fun textures to play with it makes me happy. My “wild” shades are usually something adjacent to this - a mucky metallic bronze, or a rosewood shade that flirts with cranberry but has a firm foot in the brown camp. It’s so fun to watch your process and see how your color theory mind organizes these 💛

I have to rewatch this when I'm not distracted making cookies. You've put together palettes that are so beautiful, Artemis (e: and Calypso) gasped me. I didn't have any of these feelings looking at the original palette collections. And I love the names you gave them. So good!

  • @agresticumbra
    @agresticumbra 2 года назад +4

Love that you tore them apart. It inspired me to become a bit reckless this morning, and do that with some recently purchased indie palettes of which I absolutely despise the packaging. The palettes were covered with puffy fabric, with the bigger logos feeling like they weighed about half of a roll of quarters, and they all have mirrors. They were not in any way practical. These are some of those "collector" palettes, but I do not feel bad that I utterly destroyed the packaging. The bummer side is that the pans are glued to inside plastic base with something that bends the pan before the pan pops out. It's ridiculous, especially when other pans in larger palettes from the same brand are set with a magnet, so can be popped out. I'd have to come from the backside with a glue gun to get these out. What I'll probably do for now is put them in a deeper palette akin to a z.
With that said, I'm done buying premade palettes that are not magnetized and customizable. I don't care how conscious/clean/environmental the brand is. It is a waste of money, and product. **IF** I buy any premades it is because every single color is adored by me, and are easy to put into aother palette. GAH!!!
Add one more tangent to that: I love my old metal aveda refillable palette for this reason. Sadly, they have mirrors, but were magnetized, and otherwise very conscious in construction for being 20+ yo palettes. I still think about removing the mirrors, and replacing with a magnet, to see if I can fit more in each case. Wish I could share pics here so for those who never saw the orginals (they were gold toned,) they could see where some older millennial, genx, and boomers were coming from with where we started with more conscious choices.
Interesting, the "velveteen brown" you speak of would turn reddish on me, plus would stomp on the green in my eyes. It would make the grey in these peeps take over, though, but it would look more rusty than brown on my skin. And the vast majority of golds do not work well around my eyes. They are not complimentary due to my muted coloring; soft whites, silvers, and neutral creamy off whites are better choices.
    Thanks, Kackie!

Calypso is absolutely stunning. i wouldn't be able to pull those off on my skin tone but honestly it's my favourite colour combo that you created, aesthetically speaking, and i could gaze at it for days with stars in my eyes. It definitely gives me mermaid vibes but like, spicy mermaid. I also feel like Dynasty was a beautiful rehome for your least-favourites that did them lots of justice.
Also, this project must've been so satisfying. i don't have enough makeup to do it with makeup, but i'm an artist and one of my favourite things to do is create colour palettes out of my supplies. In fact sometimes I'll just go with my sketchbook and whatever supplies, put on a favourite album, and swatch all the songs with vibe/mood colours and i love the combos i come up with. That's kind of the vibes this video gave me. Love it.

For the Artemis palette, that awesome metallic green is Madrigal, not Troubadour, but whatevs. I love this idea and the palettes you've curated!
I also feel weirdly validated by your comments on how this isn't a full spectrum of color and it's okay if these color stories didn't speak to us. They spoke to me from an artistic standpoint, but not on a practical level. This collection has a lot, but is actually lacking the heart of what I'm drawn to and use on a regular basis: neutral bronzes, warm taupes, and dirty pewter-olivey shades.

I have Your coloring, but darker (LE foundation n.6, hair color golden-brown around n.6). The Sorcery was attractive, but maybe too cool colors for me (I have UD Run - there are similar colors but warmer -still nit warm for me - when I have colorful mood, I can play with them). I like Your playing with the palletes and colors! It's fun!

Recent subscriber and love your sense of humor. I would love a video with your best bedroom browns eyeshadows. They are my absolute favorite and I rarely find something that lives up to what it actually looks like in the pan. Two favorites are ABH Teak in Sultry palette and Lap Of Lux in Colourpop Nude Mood. Also really appreciate someone who understands color theory coming from a commercial interior designer. My biggest pet peeve is when people say that blue reds make your teeth look whiter. That works for people with that tone of skin. I have found the opposite and orange yellow brown based reds do that for me.

The biggest problem I see with her palettes is that they are overwhelmingly warm toned. The only ones I could actually wear would be myth and Vega. But Vega is not just cool tones, it’s also pretty gray/muted. A lot of companies think that if they do a cooler version of a warm color (like a cool orange) that that would work for cool toned people. It doesn’t. They also think that making a palettes with a bunch of grays and a pop of blue works for cool toned people. Also doesn’t unless you’re muted and with no olive undertone. There’s so few companies who get this right, I was really hoping Lisa Eldridge would, but as her complexion leans slightly warm, all of her makeup starts from a neutral point that is slightly warm. All of her “blue red” lipsticks are pretty neutral and her “neutral” lipsticks, that she claims would work on everybody look too warm and orangey on me. Natasha Denona does this, too. Her photography may make some of her palettes like Retro look cool, but in person they’re all just shades of orange and rusty brown. Cool oranges, but oranges nonetheless. Altar ego just made of dupe of it and their photography is more true to what the palette actually looks like in person. It’s very orange and rust.

I ordered a couple of LE singles from cinnabar and I love them - did notice that ordering singles took quite a long time to ship. I reached out and since all singles are packed by hand, it does take quite a bit of time on the back end. This mayyyy be why fully customizable palettes are not an option (yet). Simply lack of manpower, which is no fault of Lisa! I do appreciate the personal touch of having a shade hand packaged for me lol

This video is wonderful, thank you! I do not miss the gold at all, in fact it is wonderful not to have this very predictable shade (as a lot of other brands are concerned). I like your Mars palette, not at all for me, but stunning on you! My perfect palette is Vega, with the silvery shade from Sorcery and without Moonswirl. I love Supernova as well, I use it with the greens from Sorcery and the purples from Myth. I did not order Cinnebar and Muse as too warm and pink. I miss a base like French Grey which is perfect for me in winter when I am at my palest but it might be too cool / grey in summer. Perhaps mixing French Grey and Turbulence will work. We will see. I think the colourstories are well executed and I trust the artist. I exchanged only one shade just like you did for your perfect palette.
The purpose about the singles is in my opinion about refills and not build your own palette. A wellmade palette which you can use for long time and refill the shadows which you use up first (French Grey, Supernova for me).

I got the Vega and the Cinnabon, and while I LOVE Vega, Cinna pulls way too orange on me, so I was really excited to purchase three of the shades from Sorcery to replace the orange-y shades, but man o man, the site is sold out of the replacements and Sorcery itself. It's so frustrating! (I know I know, such a good problem to have!:):) But I do wonder about the thinking behind launching products with such a low inventory, especially around Christmastime. To me, it seems like such a terrible business move. I'm excited to eventually get my hands on those beautiful greenish colors! Something to look forward to:)

I believe my perfect palette would be eclipse & dynasty smooshed together. While I find Mars to be THE most boring thing ever I also 1mil % understand how & why you landed on it. It makes so much sense, for you. 🤭💕
If I loved warm tones or warm toned neutrals, I'd probably be drooling over that colorstory!

I got Myth and then the single Mercurial from Sorcery. I took out Nocturnal (that's not right but the deep purple one) in Myth and now I have my perfect purple palette with a duochrome shift shade!

I took them all out and put them in a Salt NYC palette. I’m so much happier.

I am 36yo and have been struggling with acne for 25 years. I decided to try Curolgy like a year ago and it is the only thing that cleared up my skin. I also got a lot of pigmentation with my youngest who is now 3yo and it cleared up that too.
