Feeling incredibly depressed today and this video couldn't have come at a better time. Thank you for all the valuable work you do, it serves many different purposes.
I'll be honest, I love Lisa so much that I'm always swept away by the whole magic of her product launches. Which is why I appreciate the gentle objectiveness of your reviews and also the thoroughness!
Likewise. My no-buy had 2 exeptions and that was that I was allowed to buy something from the Lisa Eldridge Summer and Autumn launches but I had to really think about it because her launch videos aren't average. I got a lipstick early in the year, but with the palette launch it made things so much more difficult.
same. but the thing is that Lisa's video on these shadows didn't do much for me and Hannah's made me want to get Cinnabar and my fiance is already informed about this 😂
Yes! I completely agree with the lack of grunge in the LE color world. I would LOVE to see her do a grunge collection bc I imagine she would put it in the context of makeup history and really give us some truly special and unique ucky grungy shades 🤩
the lipsticks in sorcery and meet me in berlin are inspired by 90s grungeyness- so I hope she elaborates on those shades and makes more grungey shadows.
as a 40 year old makeup enthusiast who is a bit scared of the super punchy colors in everyday life, I'm actually quite happy that her eyeshadows aren't as punchy. I'm super pale with cool undertones and I adore vega. myth is actually quite punchy in my book but manageable for me. :)
And I don’t shop any of the brands that were mentioned. I think that’s a bit of a cliché. The colors are just easy to manage & you don’t run the risk of applying way too much all at once.
I find Myth a bit much, and as someone who's very pale I find it difficult to use the palette without a very pale French Grey-equivalent shade. Vega is my ideal
Omg this is my nickname for her, Lisa Eldritch Horror, and when I met her I got really star struck and blurted out this fact. She was lovely but she did not get it all lmao
When the new lipsticks came out, there was so much hype about how they were the perfect 90s supermodel shades, etc. My first thought was, the shades those 90s supermodels wore are almost all easily available for a fraction of the price. The first brand that came to mind was Revlon. The Rum Raisin comparison was easy confirmation.
Most of these color names are taken from the Grumbacher paints, geared mostly for beginning artists. These colors are extremely well known amongst artists. Sketching tree trunks onto a canvas is a Raw Sienna (or Burnt Umber) moment. Anyway You correctly noted the pigment undertone in Lamp Black, which Is a very pure black, but tends to muddy slightly in mixtures. Natural sources may be brownish or bluish in tone because of impurities.
Hannah, that was AWESOME. I can’t think of a single question that your review didn’t answer. In fact, I actually feel like these fifty-nine minutes have sated my appetite for these palettes. I’ve experienced the thrill of the purchase vicariously - through you! So thank you *so* much 🙏🏼😊. Sending love and gratitude, from Brisbane, Australia Chaq x ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
I'm not going to buy the Lisa Eldridge palettes-more of a one and done girl-but I'm here to listen to Hannah's relaxing voice to quell my rage as I try to clean nail polish off my daughter's bedroom furniture and bathroom sink.
Lol, I had that idea in my head of polished, editorial, not too dramatic, when I asked for Velvet Midnight, expecting it to be a berry shade. But on my pale face it's full-on goth, almost black. That just shows how tricky it is to order makeup online in general in terms of expectation vs reality. Very enjoyable review!
i love love love this channel, i feel like no other makeup youtuber can top your amazing vibes and the way you use your products, the way you really see the value in what you own and how you demonstrate it to us in such a eloquent and appealing way. since i started watching i've deeply enjoyed your honesty and thoughtfulness regarding makeup and started to get into this world in a way that finally feels approachable. besides, i too have a pale complexion, hooded eyes and olive undertones in my skin and for the first time i have been able to look at examples of products that suit me well and to get to know how to apply them in a way that compliments my features. i love your attitude towards makeup, it speaks to me like that of an aesthete who enjoys their art pieces and seeks to have every single one of them shine without the need to necessarily collect too much nor to feel like its their duty to have everything the industry has to offer, just what seems to communicate with them the most. you really are the best. i hope you have a great day :)
love your reviews so much. the way you really dig deep into finding the most precise words to describe the texture and experience of using the shadows is like no other. you also are very aware of your own preferences and are able to describe both what works / doesn't for a shadow and what works / doesn't work *for you* for a shadow. I knew these weren't for me (I want the glitz and duo/multichrome shine), but always lovely to listen in.
I understand what you are saying about certain eyeshadow palettes. My Wayne Goss Luxury Eye Palette are like that for me. They are not splashy and get overlooked within my own collection, at times. But when I do reach for them, I am amazed how good my eyeshadow looks at the end of the day.
Lisa's liquid lurex in titania definitely serves the grungy green with black base one and done look. Also Emily is a good neutral taupe topper. I've loved mixing that with Pat's topper coats for an easy eye look. I think you would like those
I appreciate you not requesting a replacement for the 2 broken shades- i was thinking the same when you mentioned their situation. If you are reviewing, you got this experience and you can review them anyway, plus just repress them. For a regular consumer of course, I would justify requeastng a replacement so that the company develops either a better formula or better packaging.
I am so glad I postponed the purchase and waited for your review. Apart from having more than enough great eyeshadows already, I really can't see myself using these formulas. All other reviews were just like "These are so Lisa!, top notch, innovative formulas, great classic colours with a twist. Recommend", but I need a more in-depth review. This one's just like actually getting to touch and use them. Thank you! Please keep up the good work!
I would’ve never guessed that you would’ve purchased the Cinnabar palette because of the orangey-ness. Also, I really appreciate the fact that you kept talking about selling the fantasy but in reality it’s just eyeshadow. It helps keep myself in check so I don’t buy something I don’t “need” 👏🏼
I have been waiting for this video with bated breath! I started watching your channel through your 'insanely thorough reviews' and I gotta say, no one does it quite the HLP way. You have made me reconsider the way I approach products and consumerism in quite an impactful way so I always value your reviews.
There is also that your skin colour gonna make colours of the eyeshadows or lipstick different. Like the same lips colour that my friend is wearing looks insenly purple on me while looks blood red on my friend
Incredibly comprehensive review! Bravo Hannah 👏. I ordered the Vega palette and waited quite a while even though I'm In Europe (France actually). As a mature woman I'm quite happy with the subtlety of LE's shadows. Thanks again 🙏
I have sorcery and myth and I think your “it’s just eyeshadow” sums it up for me. I have hooded eyes and find all of the shadows transfer throughout the day so most of the shades I can only use as liner without issue. I don’t know what I was expecting but I much prefer the Natasha denona formulas and dont think I’ll feel compelled to purchase any more of these.
I enjoyed this video immensely. It’s funny, because I’m not much of a makeup wearer. I get some much enjoyment out of your descriptions, delivery, and perspective. And as a middle aged lady with hooded eyes, I really can dig it. I love all the color theory. You encourage and inspire my inner artist. More home decor and wardrobe content! Xoxo
EPIC WAY TO KICK OFF THE NEW YEAR! (Your comparison of matte eyeshadows in the different formulas to soft pastels and oil pastels really won my art supply worker heart.) Thank you for such a thorough and balanced review.
I love how thorough this review was and not dismissive in explaining the cons of the eyeshadows for you personally. The eyeshadows actually are perfect for me. I like eyeshadows that are subtle. I love Ritual and a good everyday shiny topper. So, I enjoyed how balanced your review was :). Btx I love how the shadows mesh with the skin once it has settled. And for me, all of Lisa's products look better and better after a few minutes of application :)
What I love most about Lisa Eldridge is that she really knows how to talk about colours and textures and the stories behind them. You have that same quality, so thank you for this extra-long video
Totally agree about the way the shadows are ageing in the pan - I have myth and sorcery and through light use, they are starting to look hard panned, slightly crumbly and dull. I’m glad I bought them but won’t be buying any more.
My CT quads look like you described the Lisa palettes :( haven't tried Lisa's eyeshadow yet because I am waiting for an empty palette that we can customize
@@raluci That's interesting! I own two that I use super often - one that I use pretty much daily, Star Aura and one that I had pretty much since it came out, Exagger-Eyes. The latter only has the pop shade looking a bit frizzy, the other one looks as good as new minus the initial lettering on the eyeshadows. Definitely not such a mess as the Lisa ones - I have to clean and wipe down the packaging pretty much daily :(
@@cmyers6755 Sorry this is happening, though I'm glad I'm not the only one! I even changed out the brushes at some point, because I thought I was the one messing them up... but maybe that's not the problem after all :D
I think this Is the best kind of review for beauty products: technicalities of the products and properties, practical use, artistic point of view, consumer point of view and in general a carefully thought through review. Many beauty content creators just splatter the products on their faces and in 10 minutes it's love It, hate It or meh, without the kind of analysis that she does. Thank you Hanna for your amazing work
A lot of those legendary early 90s lipsticks were, in fact, just dark roses or brick red. And talking about eyeshadows, it was mostly that infamous blue and a lot of black melted eyeliner. Sometimes we blend what we see in yellowish unfiltered pictures with what we'd like want to see.
Yes! I remember owning exactly those two colours of lipstick. I owned a dark rose one and used it as a blush and shadow as well. Still do this nowadays, creature of habit. And yes, eyeliner. Lots of.
I watched this while doing my skincare plus makeup, getting ready for work, and it was very relaxing 🕺🏾🎶 ironically, I am wearing Pat McGrath (Divine Rose 2 and desert orchid)
It is so crazy how different makeup looks on different people. I decluttered Affair because it pulled straight cool toned brown on me and made me look sick. Affair on you has so much more red in it that I never knew was even there. Bizarre!!
This was a very thorough, honest and balanced review. As someone who owns Chanel & TF, but also owns PMG (my fave) & ND and indie I totally get what you’re saying about her shadows. I own Sorcery and while I have nothing bad to say about the palette, I also wasn’t blown away by it either given my collection. What I love most from LE is her lipsticks and I actually love her liquid eyeshadows.
24/7 is a special shade and I would have never known how special if it wasn't for your video on it years ago (THANK YOU!). ♥️ It's been my favorite eyeshadow ever. I've been trying to dupe it for years (with not much luck), so when I saw the reference in your notes I immediately clicked on with excitement! Thank you for this thorough review!
I am so excited for you to review Lisa's eyeshadows. Simular to you, "neutral" doesn't lean neutral on me and I need your I highly detailed information before making any decisions. I'm in no rush to buy this but I think I will get curated singles once she sells the empty palette (should the shades be practical for me) Edited after watching: wow I would have been utterly disappointed had I jumped in with these shadows, they really aren't made for me both in color and shine. While still beautiful I can find simular shades that would suit me far better.
I love the words you use to describe makeup :) Your adjectives are so precise and specific, so it's helpful in understanding how the makeup looks/works.
Loved this video. Affair is stunning on you, Hannah. I’m 60 and still wear Pat McGrath drama. I am drawn to Lisa Eldridge though. Vega was the one I’m considering. I’m cool toned and fair with the darkest brown eyes possible. Perhaps I’d like some sophistication in my life. 😊
I woke up depressed and crying- we had to have our cat put to sleep yesterday. There’s a hole in my heart and watching your video and your lovely personality is helping me.
Great review. It’s so interesting seeing people’s preferences. I have both Vega and Myth and was surprised how much I like the Smokey blue in Vega as I thought it would be terrible, yet have used it quite a bit. I like your pick of colours for a custom palette and think it looks very usable.
So grateful for this video for squashing my desire to buy these shadows. The magic of Lisa really grabs me but I think I have a similar taste in shadows as you (including tones of "neutrals") and I already had a feeling the palettes weren't right for me, and while they really are beautiful, I think they're just not for me.
Really loved the review. Totally agree with your take on the LE palettes. I find what's interesting on the lipsticks is how different they are on each person. As you mentioned Affair has a reddish quality on you, on my sister who is a cool-toned blonde, it is definitely a warm 90s brown. On me, (palish blond but more warm toned), it is a really light beige. It's not just her lipsticks of course
One thought I had as I was listening to you describe the patchiness in applying individual matte shadows: 1) I think you are absolutely correct to say the mattes in this collection behave/should be treated more like creams than powders, and thus 2) I wonder if your Rephr brushes are affecting the application process? Rephr makes their brushes from natural hair, and while the grippy properties of natural hair are an asset when applying powder formulas, they tend to behave more erratically with creams and liquid (especially noticeable when blending liquid foundation or concealer with a natural hair implement). I purchased the Vega and Myth palettes and I've really enjoyed that same airbrush-y, blendable quality you described when layering shades. But my personal brush collection is almost exclusively Sigma and recent MAC-all of which are synthetic-and my experience, even with individual mattes of either formula, is that they blend and build extremely easily on their own. I don't know for certain that this is the exact answer, but I'd be curious to know if you find there's a noticeable difference in application or performance just by switching tools!
I love your videos Hannah! I’m pretty new to your channel but you are quickly becoming one of my favorites, I love your style, your way of thinking, and the way you review and talk about things. You also give me major Breakfast Club vibes and I absolutely love it 👏🏻
I totally agree with your opinion of the direction or vibe of these palettes. The audience is clear and it’s her thing. Just not my thing; either lol. Beautiful, maybe for my mom. ❤
Hey Hannah ! Ahh so glad to hear your thoughts on this launch! Vega is my absolute fave and I loved your customized palette. I was shocked by the blendability of Lisa’s mattes; I definitely wasn’t expecting a truly unique matte formula that I’d be so excited about, yet I really got that from these shadows. Anytime I find myself wanting a pop of chunkier glitter, I’ve been loving to do my complete look with the palette from Lisa and then just tap a glitter topper shade from Pat over the center of the lid 🤩 PS a couple of recommendations that I feel like are calling your name - her newer liquid lurex shades are incredible - I think you’d love Cressida, Zora, Emily, Anais, Titania, or Viola 🥺 And (off topic) if you haven’t tried the Mimi blush stick from Westman Atelier, I think you’d love how neutral it is
This was super interesting. I only bought the Sorcery palette, and I think it's quite a different experience to the ones you have tried (it only has one matte, for a start - which I like as a liner). It might just be my preference & skin tone etc reading differently, but there are some pretty colourful shades in it, that are what they look like they will be. I was kind of disappointed in Mercurial at first, but it turned out I just needed more of it!
Me, yelling out from the back of the crowded auditorium: And what did we, once again, learn about warm-toned eyeshadows?! HLP, answering from the stage: 11:25
I think the lesson here is that there's something for everyone and this may not be for everyone. What we buy is all very specific to whatever your particular tastes are that you may or may not like something or buy more of the same same, or mix it up. I think of all youtubers I follow, I find that you're looking for every individual shadow to pass your pressure test (which is pretty intense IMO) and that is totally ok and not without merit (after all, why buy X for more if you dont need to, unless you want to or don't care?) ! I spent a lot of time buying shadows that swatch gorgeously and reflective and interesting - like they speak to my soul and then i never use them because they dont make sense in my life and corporate America where I spend most of my time. I can't d around every morning with with chunky reflective anything and experiment talking to clients and VPs - maybe in old agency life but I also like to mix things up and really want a variety and not drama in every shadows. To each their own! Curious if you'd used all the shadows (like all all) on your eyes vs just swatching and using the ones you like? I def. didn't have any issues blending or with patchiness with these shadows
My heart is sooooooo happy to hear you say you are able to do some tango dancing again!!!💃 Lovee your thorough reviews. I always love to settle in for a full hour of "Hannah". Spending an hour listen to this was well spent time on my day off. I'm so appreciative of your time and effort to give such comprehensive reviews for us. 💖
It’s funny that you mention Lisa Eldridge pulling warm for you, I got Velvet Fawn a while ago expecting that soft peachy brown from the website swatches and I don’t wear it much because on my peach undertones, it’s a cool grey brown
I completely agree with what you mean with the matte eyeshadows not having much purchase, I was so confused at first but I find the more you work the brush over the area the more payoff you get, kind of massaging it on with the brush. We have similar skin tones albeit I’m a fraction less fair. I so often find midtone brown and bronze eyeshadows pulling orange/red on my eyes and I’ve spent so much on Lisa Eldridge lipsticks trying to get less pink neutrals! I’ve learned so much about which colours work best on me since following your channel (am also now in a no buy thanks to you) I will follow you to the end of the earth for your recommendations and wisdom.
The review we were all waiting for with bated breath. Thanks for such in in-depth review Hannah. Not even planning on picking these ones up (even more so now) but I enjoyed ever one of those 59 minutes ❤️
This eye look is stunning though and you look incredible Hannah. I almost feel like Lisa designed these shadows to be like an invisible hand guiding you as you apply, so that it's impossible to get an unflattering look. I love art supply makeup but as I hit mid thirties I'm also starting to appreciate effortless makeup that just looks good no matter what I do!
Lol, It’s so funny hearing you talk about your issues blending the LE mattes bcuz I found them so incredibly easy to blend that I was halfway through my first eye & was raving about them & if I had the budget I would have immediately gone & got myself the Vega palette! I have myth & got moonswirl & mage singles (mercurial was sold out) but I totally would have gotten Vega if my last big purchase hadn’t been the Natasha Denona Glam Palette. Anyway, it’s really just so interesting how different ppl get along with products. As always , thank you for the amazing deep dive! Love that you’re dancing again!!
Happy new year!! I hope you had a wonderful and restorative holiday season. I look forward to everything you'll do in 2023. or you could say I'm following your future career with great interest 😊
Can we get a video on makeup looks you do to Tango? I am a 53 year old makeup lover and sparkle and metallic goodness and I teach performance makeup because I dance Flamenco . Would love to see what you do, to me the part of putting on makeup to perform is an intricate part of the performance itself. It’s the skin you put in
I definitely agree with you about Lisa’s makeup pulling orange! As another muted pale olive I was surprised by how much her lipsticks pulled warmer on me when it was supposed to be neutral or even slightly blue leaning. I believe she herself is slightly warm leaning, and if there’s anything I’ve learned, it’s that makeup brands created by makeup artists that have warm undertones themselves have a “neutral” point that is shifted warmer than a true neutral (in my opinion Natasha Denona is the worst offender)
My muted pale olive is why I went for myth and bought supernova separately, those dusty mauve shades and deep aubergine really pull natural on me! It’s confusing being green 😂
Omg! It’s happening, so excited ❤ I was guessing you got the sorcery palette, but exactly for the gold shade madrigal, so I wasn’t that off 😅 oh.. a custom palette as well? 🥵 Thank you for your quality content. Have a happy and healthy new year, Hannah 🎉
When you blotted the velvet sorcery, I almost could see the cool mauvey rosiness that lurks just below the surface in many of her lipsticks. It’s like there is a completely different color underneath!
Hi Hannah! Loved the nuanced perspective on a product that I've only heard glowing reviews of so far! I recently switched to the UD primer potion and I've found it's both a blessing and a curse. It's sticky grippiness keeps my shadow from creasing in my hooded lids like no other, but achieving a good, blown-out blend has become sooooo difficult due to that same quality in the primer. If you want to make these shadows work for you, or just feel like you're as skilled in blending as you actually are, perhaps you could opt for a different primer, or lay down some concealer in the crease, blend the shadow there and then put the primer potion on the mobile lid and do the rest.
Thank you for your thorough review! It really got me thinking as I do not at all share your experience. It made me realise even more than before how makeup preference is always important to take into consideration when buying new makeup, and particularly eye shadow. I find it interesting how you choose to compare the Lisa Eldridge eye shadows with shadows from brands like Pat McGrath and Clionadh that all represents very different styles of makeup. Clionadh the indie brand trying to create the most shifty sparkly shadows not really connected to any looks or styles or anything apart from being the most shiny sparkly shifty thing ever pressed into a pan. And then Pat McGrath which represents very American hollywoodesque and Instagram oriented makeup with bold looks and overly saturated pigment with super sparkly special shades to take the looks even further into the stratosphere. And then you have Lisa Eldridge who is a makeup artist that represents a completely different array of makeup styles. Elegance, subtlety, simplicity to editorial but with a more creative or graphic twist in her professional work. And usability and workable in everyday life for all of us people who do not live our lives on social media but in old fashioned work environments where makeup styles that go all the way in sparkly ness doesn’t really work. Most of Lisa’s tutorials are really about taking something from the limelight and making it work in everyday harsh daylight lighting. Taking age and texture and imperfection into consideration and making whatever you are born with more beautiful and smooth and usable. That is her unique selling point in my opinion. Which puts her in a different category to the others you compared her to. In a way if one absolutely wants to make a comparison Lisa represents really a more European style while both Pat McGrath and Clionadh in their respective differences still both represents very typical American expressions. Personally, (I have all six of Lisa’s palettes) I have almost left most of my other palettes lying since these came into my life. They are the ones I reach for on a daily basis. Which is quite opposite of what I thought when buying them as I thought they would feel too precious to use unless for a special occasion. But instead they are really usable for my everyday life. I agree with you on the fact that some of the warmer palettes lean very warm which calls for a light hand. But as these formulas allows for a light hand also and allows for building and not supersaturating at once even these colours have proven workable for me, which they usually are not. (I hardly ever use any of the myriads of copper and bronzey gold shades in my PmG palettes as they are just too much copper and gold (or red) to work. But Lisa’s shadows seems to be made for daylight use also and not just red carpet or artificial Instagram ring lights… And I really appreciate that. A word on formula and blend ability. I understood already from the swatches and from how hard you rub your fingers in the eye shadows that you might end up with blending problems. as these two matte formulas (who are different on the eyes btw) are both created for layering thin layers which will make them blend themselves without hardly any effort with no fallout or unevenness. Subsequently given their formula they are not meant to be put on in a thick splotch and then moulded and blended out with a lot of effort and blend, blend, blend… which I see has become a very common technique especially in the US. Which is ok too, of course. But not as easy and effortless. And formulas made for that will still end up giving less variety in end result as they will mostly offer a rather full on effect which again works great for studio lights but less so in normal everyday settings, at least for most people. I find Lisa’s shadows extremely easily blendable but all you need is apply and blend blend and you are done. And then you can add more layers if you want a more saturated look without getting any unevenness. But if you dig your finger into the pan and pick up tons of product and then deposits that on the lid you will get too much grip and will need another lighter shadow to blend out the edges with. Just as experienced in this video. Lisa does demonstrate this very well in her introduction video. How she designed these formulas to not need so much blending. As most people don’t have time for excessive eye shadow blending in the morning getting ready for work. They need something to work quickly and effortlessly. And I find these formulas allows for very fast work when on the go without skimping on the result. And I believe this is the demographic that Lisa is catering to with her own makeup line. Makeup that actually can be worn in normal daylight, by normal people in everything from dull everyday life and non exceptional settings to elegant editorial situations where effortlessness is sought after. And if that is what you are after and not just the next most shiny or most saturated thing with the most pay off - then Lisa Eldridge has got you covered. But if you are all into the Instagram/RUclips vibe then there are tons of American both established and indie brands to choose from. But if you normally lust for Chanel quads or dior quints then Lisa Eldrige will be an interesting new choice with more interesting formulas at a more affordable price too. ❣️
I am European (Viennese) as well and I could not agree more. I am 45 and I simply do not have the time to blend and layer and blend. I work fulltime in the creative/design field and everything goes make-up wise. But I need shadows which are reliable and useable on the go. I have one LE palette in my make-up bag and can amp the look very easily if I go out (private) or visit events (work) in the evening. The result is always polished (Vega), sometimes colourful and still polished (when I use Sorcery or Myth) and that is exactly what I need and what I like. I did not experience patchiness as well. The only shadow I do not like at all is the topper included in Myth, this one is lackluster in my opinion. All the others are very useful to me and this is rare. As they are buildable I can make 17 out of 18 work (own Vega, Myth & Sorcery)! No waste and I know already that I will repurchase French Grey as it is my perfect base and Supernova which I love in the inneren corner or allover the lid, such a beautiful delicate sparkle! I own a Mothership (1, with the blue) and I loved it because it is so cool toned. I did love the luxurious packaging in theory but not in practice. Not useful on the go and the fingerprints! The shadows are very pigmented and overall a bit darker so I had to be very lighthanded and had to blend ... which I do not love. The baked special shades had a ton of fallout which I do not love neither. I refuse to wear a primer and I know glitter glue would help .. too much fuss to make the glitters last. The glitter particles are huge and I did use them for private occasions only as I do not wish to look like a discoball at work. I retired it after receiving the LE palettes. The Mothership worked well enough but I would not repurchase from Pat.
@@romana.in.wonderland I couldn’t not agree more on the Pat McGrath palettes! They take a lot of effort and glitter glue and such things just don’t vibe with me at all. They seem like they are made for swatching first and use on the eyes second. And with Lisa Eldridge it’s the other way around - which I prefer for reasons before mentioned also by you! I also agree with you that with Pat McGrath the colour scheme is often a bit too dark for daytime use unless you are very light handed and have time to blend to eternity. But I think the main reason behind that is that PmG does cater well for darker skin tones which is good. But they will therefore also be more finicky for lighter skin tones. And all in all overly saturated darker colours or super shiny glittery toppers are not a look i want for everyday use. So PmG for me is solely glam party usable. And for more common evening dinners or straight after work stuff then having the Lisa friend is what I rather reach for. ❣️
@@brabalans348 yes, Pats shades are made for a large variety of skin tones and I appriciate that a lot! I am very happy to own now palettes for fuss free everyday use and might pull the Mothership for special occasions when I am in the mood for blending and doing my eyes first. I find this quite hard, I prefer doing the eyes first and adjust base later and this is finally possible with the LE.
So fascinating how different velvet affair looks on you compared to my skin tone! It’s lighter and much peachy pink on me. I wished it was a bit deeper and rustic on my like it is one you but it’s still a beautiful shade. The sorcery palette and lipstick are on my wishlist this year, especially after waiting and seeing reviews. Definitely right up my alley. The cinnabar palette was giving ABH soft glam to me. The chokehold those warm practically orange “neutrals” had on the beauty community lol
Thanks for this thorough review…. Your choice of Cinnabar is surprising if everything leans warm. I picked all 3 cool ones and I must say Myth surprised me. But, I also don’t chase sparkles and multichromes the way it seems Beauty RUclips has been going lately. I want a wide range of impacts for different uses: from no-makeup makeup days to shiny sparkly party makeup. I think Lisa delivered a versatility that very few creators can deliver. Note that I’m 50 and more conservative in my eye makeup looks than you although I appreciate a well done colorful or even editorial look. Your work on RUclips is unique. Please continue to deliver thoughtful reviews.
@@Gnv-q2m I stopped buying CT a while back because I found her color stories were too pink or gold for my taste. From what I remember, LE is much easier to blend (you actually have to be careful not to over blend) and offers different levels of shine. I also have dry eyelids, which I think works better for LE shadows. Hope this helps.
I've had both palettes for about a month now, and agree w/every single thought you expressed -- colors, texture, blending ability, patchiness, etc. Thank you for articulating all of my conflicting feelings.
Truly enjoyed this review! As someone with deep mauve lips I have had to accept that all of Lisa's lipsticks pull either neon-y bright fuchsia or yellowish orange on me. There's just no cool mauve/purple/grey undertone to be had (yet). I'll still appreciate her work and techniques of course.
I am 45 and I love the palettes, own Vega, Sorcery and Myth. You describe my preferences quite well: eyeshadow that lasts, I am mesmerized how my eyes look after 12-14 hours. And I love the option to use Vega for a polished day look and apply (a lot of!) Moonswirl or Supernova for going out after work. Even as a teenager I used to say I do not wish to look like a discoball and those shadows do not make my eyelids (deep set!) shine like crazy. My eyelids are not especially crappy and I do not use a primer nevertheless no problem with applying those shadows which are supposed to work as a base. I love beautifying, polished makeup and I think Lisa Eldridge delivers that. I own Pats Mothership 1 and used it religiously but retired it. Too much fallout for my taste compared to LE, not possible to use on the go due to the extreme packaging. In theory I love a hefty palette but in practice I did never love using it. Edit: I do not own Tom Ford or Chanel as the four pan palettes do not offer enough versatility. Victoria Beckhams palettes look boring 😂 even to me.
You articulate my eyeshadows needs as well! I love when something lasts, find big bulky palettes cumbersome and overwhelming. As much as I wanted to love Pat’s eyeshadows I felt there was way too much fallout on my face to really enjoy working with them. And I need my makeup to last. I don’t really do touch ups, and to have something that holds up reliably, is really what I want. I love the look of Vega and would love to curate 2 of my own palettes!
@@beaherzberg you will love Vega. I curated a palette with shades from Vega and Myth and love the grey-lavenderness of the combination. I used it exclusivly when I visited my mum for the holidays. We spent some cozy time as a family but invited some friends over for New Years Eve. This little curated palette fullfilled all my needs, polished for having a coffee in my little hometown and quite glamourous for New Years Eve and everything in between.
I’m so thankful that you made this video. I was thinking about getting one because there was SO much hype, but my favorite thing about them was the super shiny shadows and I have Pat McGrath palettes that I love so so much that do that and they’re expensive so I really need to use those instead
Lisa Eldridge is a genius and taught me how to apply make up. But she cannot be described as edgy and thats ok 😅
While I enjoy all the HLP flavors, I must admit that "insanely thorough" Hannah is my favorite.
💯
I miss "I do not know what I am doing but I am having fun" livestream HLP, but this comfort zone HLP is also quite nutritious
AN HOUR LONG VIDEO?! A blessing on this cozy cold rainy day.
I know that’s right! Right in time too, I finished out my last hour of work to this 🙌
Feeling incredibly depressed today and this video couldn't have come at a better time. Thank you for all the valuable work you do, it serves many different purposes.
I hope you feel better soon! 🤍
Me too. Holidays are hard for me. HLP is like ASMR. ❤
I'll be honest, I love Lisa so much that I'm always swept away by the whole magic of her product launches. Which is why I appreciate the gentle objectiveness of your reviews and also the thoroughness!
Me, too.
Likewise. My no-buy had 2 exeptions and that was that I was allowed to buy something from the Lisa Eldridge Summer and Autumn launches but I had to really think about it because her launch videos aren't average. I got a lipstick early in the year, but with the palette launch it made things so much more difficult.
same. but the thing is that Lisa's video on these shadows didn't do much for me and Hannah's made me want to get Cinnabar and my fiance is already informed about this 😂
no offense, but no review is objective but always highly personally subjective. :) and that's fine.
@@MsAaannaaa Great point ❤
Same, that elephant grey is SO great for everyday little old faint of heart me :)
45 and fair and cool toned over here. Vega is the first palette in my life I will use up. I can use all the six shades which is rare for me.
@@victoriaryan1509 I find the shade Mauve Decade to be perfect for that. :)
How has Lisa Eldridge never done a Lovecraft inspired Halloween release called "Lisa Eldritch"?!
Anyway, excellent video as always.
Omg this is my nickname for her, Lisa Eldritch Horror, and when I met her I got really star struck and blurted out this fact. She was lovely but she did not get it all lmao
I said this on a Kackie video, so many ppl miss the connection but I’m waiting for Lisa’s take on a Halloween release
😂
@@elleywest8779 LMAO!!
I WILL ALWAYS THINK ABOUT THIS!!! WHAT HAVE YOU DONE???
You’ve just basically quoted what Lisa explained!
Sending love and gratitude, from Brisbane, Australia
Chaq x ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
Yay, I’m so glad! Thank you for commenting! 🥰
I'm not going to buy the Lisa Eldridge palettes-more of a one and done girl-but I'm here to listen to Hannah's relaxing voice to quell my rage as I try to clean nail polish off my daughter's bedroom furniture and bathroom sink.
Been there, someone out here gets it.
Thank you so much! 🥰
Omg the three greys you put in your custom palette is literally the better verision of the glossier monochromes in jute 😮
I came here to say this too!
love your reviews so much. the way you really dig deep into finding the most precise words to describe the texture and experience of using the shadows is like no other. you also are very aware of your own preferences and are able to describe both what works / doesn't for a shadow and what works / doesn't work *for you* for a shadow. I knew these weren't for me (I want the glitz and duo/multichrome shine), but always lovely to listen in.
Your take on the LE color scheme is so interesting. All of her "neutral" lipsticks look dead grey on me. Color theory is wild.
85K subscribers?! Slay girl, slay! :D Congrats, you deserve it AF!
Thank you for sharing the woes of fair olives! The struggle to avoid shades that are too orange or too pink is real. Love your content!
I'm happy to hear you're dancing Tango again
Yes!!! I so appreciate these long-form videos as well. Hannah does it the best.
A feature film of Lisa Eldridge eye shadows ✨
😂
Worth waiting for! Gimme one hour videos, Hannah! Totally here for it!
We're living, we're dying, we're so excited😆
:)
I'm in no rush to buy this but I think I will get curated singles once she sells the empty palette (should the shades be practical for me)
Edited after watching: wow I would have been utterly disappointed had I jumped in with these shadows, they really aren't made for me both in color and shine. While still beautiful I can find simular shades that would suit me far better.
watching for a second time because this is delightful. definitely helping me narrow down that my next purchase from LE will be a single or 2.
I love the words you use to describe makeup :) Your adjectives are so precise and specific, so it's helpful in understanding how the makeup looks/works.
Can you do your dramatic makeup for tango dancing? Always looking forward to your videos ❤
You influenced me and I have both of the Pat palettes you have and I'm so glad to see you compare them to the Lisa palettes! Thanks Hannah!
These pallets look beautiful
Your review is sanely, reasonably thorough! And has confirmed for me that in the end, I wouldn't reach for these much. Thank you.
One thought I had as I was listening to you describe the patchiness in applying individual matte shadows:
1) I think you are absolutely correct to say the mattes in this collection behave/should be treated more like creams than powders, and thus
2) I wonder if your Rephr brushes are affecting the application process?
Wow the kaleidos balck 😍 I’ve been wanting a green black all of mine look blue or green
Anytime I find myself wanting a pop of chunkier glitter, I’ve been loving to do my complete look with the palette from Lisa and then just tap a glitter topper shade from Pat over the center of the lid 🤩
PS a couple of recommendations that I feel like are calling your name - her newer liquid lurex shades are incredible - I think you’d love Cressida, Zora, Emily, Anais, Titania, or Viola 🥺 And (off topic) if you haven’t tried the Mimi blush stick from Westman Atelier, I think you’d love how neutral it is
This was super interesting.
It’s funny that you mention Lisa Eldridge pulling warm for you, I got Velvet Fawn a while ago expecting that soft peachy brown from the website swatches and I don’t wear it much because on my peach undertones, it’s a cool grey brown
these videos. thank you for what you add in our lifes. Always a pleasure!
I didn't know that I needed that!
This was an incredibly useful review. I appreciate the time you took with it.
So much effort and structure you have put into this video, thank you so much. I was really enjoying it.
Recently discovered your Chanel and I’m obsessed! I need at 360 of your hair and what you ask your hairdresser ❤
Ritual is the physical embodiment of the saying "Go ahead girl, give us nothing..." ❤😂
I’ve also been struggling to get the French Grey velvet eyeshadow to show up on my eyes - even with primer. So glad to hear it’s not a “me” problem! 😂
It’s the skin you put in
Love the long video! I know this will become one of my staple videos kind of like the “45 minutes of reviewing skincare” video
Which brands would you say are more truly neutral leaning for lipsticks or eyeshadows?
Same! I bought Velvet Dragon, and I love it - but it’s straight up ORANGE on me, not really red at all!
@@AmberOrtolano it is bright orange on me and I hate it, but I don't know anyone who wants. I paid so much for it it just sits on my vanity 😕
@@Elizabeth-uu5tv sell it on Mercari. I just sold my LE blush and painterly lipsticks this week!
So very worth the wait and so glad I waited to purchase until I saw your review!
We appreciate your time and honesty! Thank you.
I love your custom made palette the best and I would see myself using it until the end.
Review was perfect! Very detailed!
thank you so much!!
oh Hannah, a 1 hour video... you know we love that.
Let me grab my coffee and do my makeup as I enjoy you talk 🥰🥰
How would you compare the LE to CT quads for the mature eye?
@@Gnv-q2m I stopped buying CT a while back because I found her color stories were too pink or gold for my taste. From what I remember, LE is much easier to blend (you actually have to be careful not to over blend) and offers different levels of shine. I also have dry eyelids, which I think works better for LE shadows. Hope this helps.
I've had both palettes for about a month now, and agree w/every single thought you expressed -- colors, texture, blending ability, patchiness, etc. Thank you for articulating all of my conflicting feelings.
You are THE best at reviews! Thank you!
The swatch comparisons were extremely helpful. Thanks!
just... succulent my friend - well done.
Exactly the video I wanted. Thank you.
I’m trying to do a no buy year and will definitely not be purchasing any of these shadows but what a great review!
The way you say “you know” just steels my wool 😂 Can’t get enough of it ❤. Excellent video per ushhh
I'm watching this on my big screen right now! So excited! 😍😍😍😍
I’m so thankful that you made this video. I was thinking about getting one because there was SO much hype, but my favorite thing about them was the super shiny shadows and I have Pat McGrath palettes that I love so so much that do that and they’re expensive so I really need to use those instead
