Fleet tech here on police cars. There was a service bulletin (09-06-03-007) many years back to relocate the cooling fan relays and fuses to outside of the fuse box with updated more robust relays. It came with new relays, fuses, wiring harness and instructions on how to wire them in. The tiny relays in the box would overheat due to excessive idle time in police cars. If done right they worked well. 9:39 am
Thanks! I found that tsb after I was done with this car. It also explained why I've seen many melted fuse boxs even on non police impala's.
One of your longest videos yet... I like it, and you are sniffing out those broken wires almost as fast as Eric O.... LOL... Regards
Thanks!
SteveO, do you think Eric O is doing it real time or he figures everything out first and then films it? I'm pretty sure it's the latter.
Thanks for this quick reading diagram training which is one of my biggest weakness.
Glad I could help!
It helps a ton. I am in NJ as well working on my troubleshooting skills.
Awesome job finding those broken wires so fast!
Thanks!
Life would be so much easier if someone put a tag on the fan relays 1-2-3 or even a white paint mark etc. Good fix.👍
💯
Having a low resistance test light that has a thin enough tip to allow piercing saves you a lot of time. Most of the ones I've found have huge tips, so I end up cobbling together an extra tip and wire. As usual, a great demonstration of how a real pro does this quickly.
Thanks! I would only pierce those thick aftermarket wires with it. regular oem wire I would use a piercing probe.
That’s why I love the little OTC mini test lights. OTC 3633 I take them out of the box and install a stackable banana jack on the end instead of the stock ground clip and it becomes even more versatile
Youre not supposed to pierce wires as that can let in moisture and cause corrosion which can cause high resistance, i use an actual DMM with backprobe pins. but thats just me
@@oil1252 in the field that’s not always practical and load testing circuits with a test light is much better than checking with a multimeter. Nothing wrong with piercing a wire if you need to as long as you seal it up when finished. Different situations require different approaches and sometimes that includes piercing a wire.
Good diagnosis! Thanks for sharing.
You found that issue fast!! I would pay you extra to solder those wires and then heat-shrink.
Thanks for the wiring diagram training but i do have to clarify one thing. Only relay 2 and 3 will be activated at high speed and one fan.
I don't think you are correct, even at high speed, the ECM will activate the low speed relay, (#1) because that is the power for the left fan. The other 2 relays are activated with the high speed driver in the ecm number 3 is giving power to the right fan and number 2 is giving the left cooling fan its own ground path. I just checked service info to confirm.

Love this diag videos. Great job.
Glad you like them!
Aftermarket crap installed by Mauler The Installer. Great job diagnosing this one!
lol thanks!
Most aftermarket installs I've had to diag, it seems like the installers never tug test their crimped connections, 9/10 times they pull out
💯 I think it's because they never fix them...
@@advancedleveldiagnostics Assemble like ass & ship it!! Let guys like us scratch our head 😄
That was quite the interesting challenge! 3 relay designs used be so confusing to me, but you cleared that up with the 'Voltage' divider explanation.
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Great diag and repair. Enjoy your videos thanks for sharing.
Glad you like them!
Love the channel. One of the best out there. Your process reminds me so much of my own. No time for nonsense and just jump in and get it done! When you’re jumping from car to car with no end in sight that’s how it has to be especially when dealing with auction cars, old police cars, etc. 😂
Keep it coming with the great content brother.
Thank you so much!
Great video again, super diagnosis & even a fix!
Thanks for watching!
Made quick work of that problem. Awesome! Thanks for sharing!
Thnks for watching!
Yea man this was considered gravy work back in the early 2000s. Adding those relays in fun work when warranty wasn’t paying crap
great job like the wiring diagram explanation nice viewing
Thanks 👍
Good video thank you for sharing
thanks for watching!
Great work sir❤❤
Thanks!
Great job tracking it down. I hate doing electrical work at nighttime. Why made you think the service info was incorrect at 1:45 ?
I just looked again, and it seems correct. Lol I guess it's not the smartest idea to edit a video at 2am😅
@@advancedleveldiagnostics LoL...🙂
Well done 👍
What a mess that engine bay needs a bath💩💩💩💩
Crusty spaghetti
Harness your great at what you do 👍💪🇺🇲♦️
Thanks!
was hard to watch lol got lost a few times lol but im having lose of coolant and its winter time, trying to find a leak is hard just did alot of work so far, radiator, thermostat and heater core flush, might change water pump within the week 12/30/12 so then i just noticed my fans aint coming on after it reaches normal temp. omg lol
Where did you get the test light with the banana plug end? Or did you make it like that?
I made it.
👍 thanks
Thanks for watching!
If you have the AC on they will both on at maximum speed.
Recently bought a 06 impala Ss and they rigged up some stuff they rigged it to make one fan come on passenger fan does not work. They cut some fan wires and ran them in the car joining them together
🌹
We wouldn't have these issues if they would stop making the wires so dang small.
Just worked on a Tesla's parking sensor near the front passenger wheel well and that wire was super delicate and thin (28 gauge probably)
❤❤❤❤❤
