    Fleet tech here on police cars. There was a service bulletin (09-06-03-007) many years back to relocate the cooling fan relays and fuses to outside of the fuse box with updated more robust relays. It came with new relays, fuses, wiring harness and instructions on how to wire them in. The tiny relays in the box would overheat due to excessive idle time in police cars. If done right they worked well. 9:39 am

      Thanks! I found that tsb after I was done with this car. It also explained why I've seen many melted fuse boxs even on non police impala's.

    One of your longest videos yet... I like it, and you are sniffing out those broken wires almost as fast as Eric O.... LOL... Regards

      SteveO, do you think Eric O is doing it real time or he figures everything out first and then films it? I'm pretty sure it's the latter.

    Life would be so much easier if someone put a tag on the fan relays 1-2-3 or even a white paint mark etc. Good fix.👍

    Having a low resistance test light that has a thin enough tip to allow piercing saves you a lot of time. Most of the ones I've found have huge tips, so I end up cobbling together an extra tip and wire. As usual, a great demonstration of how a real pro does this quickly.

    • @advancedleveldiagnostics
      @advancedleveldiagnostics  3 месяца назад +3

      Thanks! I would only pierce those thick aftermarket wires with it. regular oem wire I would use a piercing probe.

    • @Jpilgrim30
      @Jpilgrim30 3 месяца назад +1

      That’s why I love the little OTC mini test lights. OTC 3633 I take them out of the box and install a stackable banana jack on the end instead of the stock ground clip and it becomes even more versatile

    • @oil1252
      @oil1252 3 месяца назад

      Youre not supposed to pierce wires as that can let in moisture and cause corrosion which can cause high resistance, i use an actual DMM with backprobe pins. but thats just me

    • @Jpilgrim30
      @Jpilgrim30 3 месяца назад +3

      @@oil1252 in the field that’s not always practical and load testing circuits with a test light is much better than checking with a multimeter. Nothing wrong with piercing a wire if you need to as long as you seal it up when finished. Different situations require different approaches and sometimes that includes piercing a wire.

    Thanks for the wiring diagram training but i do have to clarify one thing. Only relay 2 and 3 will be activated at high speed and one fan.

    • @advancedleveldiagnostics
      @advancedleveldiagnostics  Месяц назад

      I don't think you are correct, even at high speed, the ECM will activate the low speed relay, (#1) because that is the power for the left fan. The other 2 relays are activated with the high speed driver in the ecm number 3 is giving power to the right fan and number 2 is giving the left cooling fan its own ground path. I just checked service info to confirm.

    Most aftermarket installs I've had to diag, it seems like the installers never tug test their crimped connections, 9/10 times they pull out

    Love the channel. One of the best out there. Your process reminds me so much of my own. No time for nonsense and just jump in and get it done! When you’re jumping from car to car with no end in sight that’s how it has to be especially when dealing with auction cars, old police cars, etc. 😂
    Keep it coming with the great content brother.
