You remind me of a local GOOD mechanic we have. I had a vehicle that had a left o2 sensor code. I replaced the sensor, still had issue. Brought it to him. he located a wire over the transmission that led to left O2 sensor had been chewed by a damn rat. Once he located, I asked how much to repair. He said, If he had to pull transmission, $800, if he could figure something else out without removing trans, $200. He ended up pulling drive shaft, and rear trans cross member, allowing him to splice wire and repair. He charged me the $200, could have easily lied and said he had to pull trans, he didn't. That was 10 yrs ago, vehicle is 2007, still driving strong today!

Needs a BCM. 3 BCMs, and several hours of diagnostic time later, I finally got a good one. That feeling in your gut when you plug it in and it doesn't work. The next one had a whole different set of problems. I learned not to go with aftermarket. Cardone wasn't happy after they insisted on talking to me on the phone. XD

I had a 2008 impala with the 3.5 V6. Sad to see that impala sit for so long cause mine was the most reliable car i ever own. She hit 330,000 miles no problem before the transmission started to give me trouble. Everything still worked even the AC, never left me stranded on the side of the road for mechanical reasons, but i had the usual dead battery or flat tire but that doesn't count towards that. I do miss miss that car, drove smooth like a caddy and i had a few things done to it so it had more power than your usual impala. Seeing this car and hearing the chimes and lights on the dash brings back memories, seeing the 35 on the temp usually meant something electrical went wrong, not my car but i worked at a dealership as a porter and i noticed seeing 35 for a temp meant a big headache for the mechanic

I owned a 2008 Chevy Impala and it had ABS brakes. From what I could find it was an option for a long time. Don't know if it was was like air bags and made mandatory or if the manufacturers just though it was important enough to eventually make it standard equipment. That Impala was one of the best cars I ever owned. But I take very good care of all my cars and do all the work on them myself. Until I see this video… my last ass kicker diag before I left the biz was an 08 impala v6, same goofy no crank “kinda no comm” with the BCM. mine was severe enough that the ECM wasn’t getting the wake up signal, and the BCM ended up pulling down the whole bus as a result. Chased broken CAN wires for almost a whole day, before I found a bad ground, spliced into a headlight ground by “the last guy.” I still think about that car, and watching this video is giving me serious deja vu. Among my homemade tools: a simple 9-volt battery. If I wanted to confirm the bcm as the only bad component, I would connect the battery to that 5v pinout and test my offline components. Maybe even try to crank the motor. Even though it's a 9v battery, it generally does not provide enough amps to burn out anything downstream.
I think you confirmed the bcm. My nearest junkyard is about a half hour drive in good traffic, so I do extra tests in case I might need another part... try to save trips back/forth.

These cars are absolute tanks. Im happy to see someone bringing one back and not scrapping it. 400k miles all day as longs as they dont rot out first. Ive worked on way too many of these. Only true issue's are your occasional transmission and mode door actuators. Here in illinois they rot in half before they give up. They make camrys look like a fucking joke and they laugh at them. Chevy thunder!!!

Just be sure you aren't the one, who likes the pretty songs, yet don't know what they mean.
But you are, because if you weren't, you wouldn't be saying what you are.
I was once too, to be fair.
I love music, but it is pernicious with a duality that feeds an ultimate irony.
And before you say anything, I'll just say, "sure brother".
Read ALLL of the lyrics, to Alll songs.
Do this for years. Note common sayings, references, and repeated symbolism that spans for decades.
It's the great show, that will blow your mind.
If you think that's crazy.. well bud, you haven't seen anything yet.

That would send me off into the rhubarb. I'd get it sorted... but my rodent bias would take me a good bit to overcome. The one thing that might keep me from going over the edge is a short event that could be responsible for module damage. Good episode Eric.

Have an old GM truck, sat for eight years, cleaned the tank, new fuel pump. filter oil change started right up and still running today pushing almost 500,000 orig. on the clock. I like the old school stuff better. I had it under coated from new so no rusty frame, wheel wells surprisingly even with all the rain and snow, slush in it's lifetime.

Note that the ABS standard with the V6 model. So it is missing on this car as only the four cylinder was in optional, and this is the 3.5L V6. Amazing trouble shooting skills. Although it would be quite a drive from CT I could go to Eric for a fix if I was desperate - but I do have an independent mechanic I trust in CT who gets to the bottom of problems like Eric can. The worst are the electronic ones so I admire Eric and those who actually can troubleshoot with a logical process and solve the issue.

ABS/traction control was optional on the base model impalas from 2000-2011. the 2000-2013 impalas did not have 4 cyl engines. 2000-2005 either the 3.4 or 3.8 V6 was available. 2006-2011 3.5 or 3.9 V6, or the 06-09 SS had the 5.3 LS4. 2012 and up have the 3.6, the new gen impalas, 14 and up had a 4 cyl available.
