The moment he said x I knew he would say it
Xtremeeeeee.......
Same 😂
Same 😂
That's actually what it originally meant. Remember the Pentium Extreme Edition? Yeah, that.
Same 😂
Expecting it.
(for Ryzen) If A is entry level, and X is... XTREEEEEM!
Then wtf is a Gigabyte GA-AX370 meant to be?
The specifications on their website state the chipset is an X one. No idea why they added an additional A.
radu nicolae since its 300 series i think its like, entry level XTREEEEM? XD
I imagine that confuses a lot of people and might affect sales🤔 what a bad marketing name.
AX for Axtreme? :D
A for ATX form factor
Well whatever motherboard you decided to buy, just make sure it’s equipped with RGB
Mine has RGB but my case hasnt got a window
It. Has. To. Be.
I plan to download RGB for my motherboard
I grabbed a b450 board with absolutely no rgb or gaming shit on it on purpose even though the rgb one is like $10 more.
what's RGB?
Just buy the latest SouljaBoard - it is compatible with all Intel and AMD chips ever made.
may need to put chip into socket with a hammer, but it'll definitely work to the fullest extent of the SouljaBoard
It doesn't even need a cpu
Can i get a link to buy the souljaboard, i want to switch to intel but keep my amd
it doesnt even need cpu or gpu to run witcher 3 at 4K ultra 120fps!
The -SouljaSomeBullshit- SouljaBoard allows you to put thermal paste on the socket and put RAM on the PCIe slots!
Short video and straight to the point but with the usual humour. Not to mention without that stupid intro anymore, just like the old techquicky days. I like it. Keep up the good work guys!
that intro would have worked better as an outro
2:32 for AMD info. Your welcome
My welcome what?
@DanRubix I also think Palider is being sarcastic
my welkam
You're*
Fast and informative. Nice
K. It's the name of the channel
Hense the name TECHQUICKIE
Oh really.. that was the name of the channel? Now that makes so much more sense...
Aa tech and quickie come together to give fast and informative content..
*slow claps*
nice
I wish you went more in depth with differences such as chipset pcie lanes.
You guys should do more videos like this. Excellent content. Wish this would have been out a month ago when I built my first pc
Love these videos. I haven't build a PC in a while and so much have changed and is already known by most enthusiasts and discussed in detail anymore so it's really useful. Can't wait to build my next.
Can I just say, thank you for keeping your paid advertisement at the end of all your videos? It's so much nicer to watch content without it being interrupted half way through. And while I'm not using any of these services, I'm more willing to check it out when it's not shoved down my throat.
But where are the chocolate chips?
First step to visit MSI Best motherboard site to pick right one: www.msi.com/Landing/best-motherboard-for-gaming-pc-build
2nd step to visit: MSI YesWeBuild tutorial site: www.msi.com/Landing/how-to-build-a-pc
Why does this comment have no likes yet its was like the second comment to show up?
@@gaspy6059 I think it’s cuz people don’t like advertising
I'm so confused. I thought this was a scam, but the channel has 287k subs. But it's also sending links for no reason. What do I believe?
What troubled me the most when I build my pc was how I determine if a mobo is a good overcolocker and if it's suited for a cpu with higher core count and thermal draw
I know one CPU that Linus has never reviewed is one that my older Sony desktop has, which is an Intel Pentium D 2.8 ghz and the manufacture date shows July of 2005. Still works fine for light tasks.
Outstanding..the way you talk, step by step explanation, and easy to understand complicated things...thanks
Thank you for such a simplifying video and finally getting me out of this mess.
Man, that was really helpful, thanks dor this and all your other videos.
I'm doing my first computer build and I am excited. Any questions I've had I googled and Linus was there to help me!
Really liked this ep, very informative!
i needed this like 4 months ago....
I do wonder if there will come a point where the pin system for plugging in case cables like power, reset, led ubs etc on motherboards will change to something else
wow thanks for clearing that up I had no clue that's the features people meant when I heard about this for motherboards.
Thanks Linus. I getting ready to do my first build, that helps a lot.
Loving these rants, Linus
this would have helped so much 3 months ago; bought a b350f motherboard with a ryzen 5 2600, luckily my workplace/retailer has a great return policy and i could upgrade to a b450f for barely 10 dollars more.
pretty satisfied with the overall experience.
A techquickie that taught me something. What is this?
Could you make a video on a full gaming setup that can be bought from amazon or eBay for streaming at a decent price
Thanks Linus, very helpful. One challenge I've found is the assorted resource conflicts - availability of PCIe lanes etc. The user guides can be very confusing so I've taken to tabulating what does and does not work for reference. BobUK.
Man! I was wondering about this 2 days ago and I found this video that explains EXACTLY what I needed to differentiate when looking for the MOBA for the new Ryzen, since I was wondering about if I shoud get a first gen R7 or 2nd gen R5 (since I mostly use it for work AND gaming). Thanks a lot for the usefull tips. Another suggestion it would be, about which type of Water Cooling model you need (Ex corsair), and how much you would spect for using it in Overclock.
it easy if you have AMD get the CROSSHAIR VII and move on with life
Costs a fortune, but well. Did solve that problem too by just buying the Crosshair VII.
I’m extremely glad I had everything right, I have a plan for a PC and haven’t ordered yet but I’m stoked I didn’t wind up having to change motherboards... that would’ve been a load of work even I don’t want to handle
Would be nice to finally have the pcie 4.0 spec come out.
Not only for more bandwidth for storage, but for eGPU bottlenecks
why would you consider an eGPU worth the price and hassle? i got the aero 15x, has a 1070, can game as well or better than most desktops, and costs less than a midrange ultrabook+eGPU. it even has good battery life (6-8 hours realistically) and per key RGB keyboard. and thats not the only laptop thats like that, msi, asus, razer and a few other make similar
I love how no word was spelled for A320
Oh my lord this is so true! XD. Choosing not only the board, but the chipset, brand, and features were the hardest parts to choose between on my first rig.
Thanks, needed this.
Thank you so much Linus this really helped 😜
Was literally looking for a video on this earlier today
Thank you, getting ready to build a new PC and I forget about this, thanks man !!!!!
This is great! I am ordering parts for a new entry level ryzen apu based system that I wanna upgrade down the line and was lost as far as MOBO. Now to figure out which brand isn't crapping out on people a few weeks in...
Exactly what i was looking for literally 2 days ago. :D
Slight clarification: Some B series intel boards can overclock with unlocked processors but can typically only offer modest overclocking due to lower amounts of power delivery and power management such with some offering a fitting 8pin plug but coupled with pretty standard VRMs that can't safely or stably support higher voltages required for higher overclocks.
Went with a asus prime 470x pro to go with amd 2700x. From what I have seen I may need a bios update eventually. This was really informative for me working on my first build.
Perfect exactly what I needed, thank you.
0:51 I lost it when you said zed
Of course you post a video abput this right after I ordered my motherboard
3:03 my a320m mobo lets me OC.
It's not confusing once to get really into computers, I even memorized the prices of average motherboards to even the coolers themselves with brands memorized too
Thank you for explaining what letters means. Though I already knew what numbers means
Love your videos and thank you for helping me with my pc
Don't forget the chinese knock offs
Justin Y. Here before a crap ton of reactions to this one simple comment
Hehe
You literally watch every video I watch and subscribe to what I subscribe to... Are we clones?
Haha
And another one..
💀 r/woosh
Appreciate your work, thanks for this video.
this explains a lot. :)
My dad once overheard a conversation between an employee and a woman at Fry's. The woman was looking to buy a motherboard for her son, which is weird to buy on its own, but anyway. When asked if she wanted an AMD or Intel motherboard all she said was "Yes."
Certain B350 Motherboards such as the MSI B350 Gaming Plus support crossfire with a BIOS update.
I was gonna say this cos I have this motherboard
Pretty sure that all B-series motherboards can support Crossfire, it's SLI that requires the X-series.
Now this is eerie, I was just watching your older videos on motherboards because I'm building my first PC, Challenge being a daily driver for school, work (Office and Google Suites) BUT I kinda wanna be a gamer at some point. ****With a budget of about $600-$700.
Hey linus, please make a video about all the sensors used in smartphones and what they do...
I laught more than I should with that Extreeeeeeeme scream 🤣
Funny enough I got an Asus A320M-K for my Ryzen 5 1400, and despite being "basic", it has a COM port header on the underside, wich as a computer sciences student is really usefull
StoreMI is not a caching solution, it's storage tiering. The 2 are not the same. It's a technology that takes 2 separate drives and automatically creates a single drive (both capacities added together) and presents that to the OS. Effectively it makes you a hybrid hard drive but made of 2 separate disks. Differences from caching include: there is only 1 copy of all data, the SSD is treated as the primary drive (all new data is first written to the fast drive and only demoted when other data is deemed "more active" and then the algorithm automatically moves the data down).
this video was so helpful to me, i am building PCs for other people and this just came around at the right time to boost my knowledge. thank u!
Thanks a lot.I really needed this video.
I figure the best way to shop for a motherboard is to think of how you want to interact with your computer. The I/O is my top priority, followed by an m.2 or two, two pci-e slots, necessity of overclocking, quality of components, and then I move on to a cpu that fits the motherboards.
I was building my desktop a month ago, and I was looking for the Msi z270 Arctic because that is the only white motherboard overclockable for my i5-9600k within my budget and listed available online, but then it was out of stock when I went to the store. So I chose another one that is a little bit more expensive, the Msi b360 gaming Arctic. Because I just found it in the shop without knowing the chipset and not asking a thing (and also just want to be done with it), I thought well this could be a good replacement since it's newer, then I went home and search more about it. Boom stuck in base clock.
(I also have to bring the motherboard back to the store to update the BIOS so it will support the 9th gen CPU)
😵😵😵
I was also going to get 8600k before switching to 9600k
That Z270 board would've never worked with your 9600k cause it only supports 6th and 7th gen CPUs.
@@WrexBF I know that's why i said i was going to get 8600k on my own reply
The same goes for the 8600k.
@@WrexBF good to know that now and luck for me that z270 was out of stock, if not I would have ended up with an unusable computer.😂😂😂
Does the motherboard need to support wi-fi in order for me to use wifi on my pc? Or can I buy a mobo without the support, and just buy something extra later to enable wifi?
Question, what if I have X "series" motherboard. Would lower end cpus still be compatible with it or the motherboard should ALWAYS be compatible with the processor at any scenario
This actually cleared up a lot thanks
Thanks guys! Just what I was looking for!
3:05 this is technically inaccurate. Not all b450 boards have Crossfire support. I know Asus' boards don't have it, as I own one.
thank you. this video helped me and i learned
Thanks for this ep. long overdue. Mobo shopping was probably the hardest part of a build, even with PCPP to make sure everything works. And how using some slots/headers deactivate others.
I bought a new pc last year from pcpart picker, the first mobo I got I was told the ram wasn't a "qualified vendor" why tf does it matter? it should still work, but nope. So I get new ram and turns out the mobo is also bad as it doesn't see the second sata connector, so I get another one and the m.2 slot isn't seen if I over clock the mother board. sigh.
Hi, can you guys make a video about active and passive adapter for displayport to hdmi, DVI and VGA and What is DP++?
You can use StoreMI on 300 series boards, but you need to pay for the license (20 usd)
but what about on board sound? what makes it good, other than the amount of jacks?
It takes me literally months to decide on a new mobo !
For me it is simple. Go on Gigabyte website, look all motherboards with the right socket and pick the best one for 200€.
then what are those letter that comes after chipset number. like z390-p or a
I need all of this to be explained in full detail to understand it better.
More in detail more in confusion
3:20 does this mean that that type of motherboard has a built-in SSD?
But my Msi B350 pc mate has Crossfire enabled
Or can those manufactures upgrade the chipset ?
This video couldn't have come in a better time for me. Thanks
Why nobody makes an ITX board with 10GigE and thunderbolt 3 ports built-in?
The issue is where you would even put it
ASRock makes a mini-ITX board with Thunderbolt 3, but it doesn’t have 10Gb
Yeah it's rediculous. Something like that would be great as a client connected to a server.
Though there is the mac mini but that doesn't have displayport and makes the internal memory inaccessable if you want to run Linux.
Thunderbolt 3 lets you have 10Gbps LAN with the right adapters. It can support up to 40GBps and I doubt you can saturate that unless you're looking at display or external compute (e.g. eGPU)
Because they would research and manufacture a board for 10 whole people who would buy it
I have a question Linus you said that you need to b450 for Crossfire but I have a b350 and I can Crossfire my 2 Rx 560's without a problem.
My z170x- UD5 TH boasts about thunderbolt 3 on almost every part of the box while nobody I know actually using it
Really useful tips
First time to understand such important topic
I need a white mobo and it needs to be ROG rampage intensity, ~$700 price point. Would a manufacturer be able to do that for me for a pretty penny or is practicing plastidip better?
Not to worry, the Advanced PC Configurator page on your old company's website (RIP NCIX) taught me how to do this... Mainly out of necessity.
Do B450 mobos come with a wireless card? I'm planning to buy a Ryzen 5 2400g processor and thought I should go for the b450 instead of the b350 for more upgradability in the future. But I really need a wireless card on the mobo because I will be using wifi quite often at home instead of wired connection for some reason.
There are some that do, some that dont.
B450 Aorus pro wifi (go to one if you want wi fi and a good board in general)
or
MSI B450I GAMING PLUS AC (best VRM out of all b 450, highly recommended if you are ok with 2 memory slots. You can even put 2700x there no issue).
b450 Msi gaming pro carbon ac / not really recommended but just in case, same vrm as Aourus board, cost more, so yeah...
You can also just get a wifi router (safer, better, dont need to have pc always on etc), and get a cheaper boards, something like MSI B450-A Pro, MSI B450 Bazooka, B450 M gaming Plus (good vrms, allow manual voltage control) or something like
ASUS TUF B450M-PLUS ASUS Prime B450 plus
For 2400g ANY of this is an overkill anyway.
If I understood correctly.. I can use i5-9600k (coffee lake 1151) on msi z370-a pro. ?
Hey, why do my pc gets so slow processing when I press the right mouse button?
Thanks! That helped a lot!
Video touches everything
It was a long long time ago when I built my last rig (10+ years ago).
At that time I had to choose between Intel and AMD.
Wait what ... that is still the game? :))))))
🤪🤪
@Linus but what about the ending letters? This D3H, DS3H etc etc
So what does my team red ab350 motherboard mean? Is it jn between beginner and mid range?
So will I be okay with an MSI b450 tomohawk if I am using a Ryzen 7 2700x?
PcPartPicker is a great tool to use!
Oh yeah yeah, if I get a 9th gen cpu for a new fresh build, do i need a 390 chipset mobo, or should I get a 370 and update the bios?
And make sure to check the speed of the RAM slots. I learned the hard way... bought an Asus rog h370-f and it only supports up to 2666mhz... and I bought 3200mhz trident z ram
Did you try maybe manual OC for those 3200mhz?chances are you could get those speeds realy.
as always Linus, thanks a lot ;)
You do not simply buy a motherboard.
