Linus, I am an air conditioning man with 40 yrs of exp. to say this is jank is a major understatement. it looks cool and is very entertaining to watch, but r22 is not meant to pull down that low. you should have used a 404a gas system and a chiller barrel, it would be safer(closed loop) still good fun!!

7:32 ah yes, good old ElectroBOOM, I'll just watch his video again :))
Nice work..
As an HVAC Tech, i think this is a very good realization.
I only hope that when you repaired the leaking, you was using a little flow of nitrogen to remove the air inside the refrigerant circuit when you soldered it, because soldering copper tube with air around create carbon, and if their is air inside, there will be carbon inside which will clog the dehydrator.
I also hope that you had use a vacuum pump to remove the air in the circuit before charging it with the R22.
Because if there is air, there will also be water inside the unit when you fill it.
And there will be a reaction between the air and the oil in the compressor, which will create acid, which will destroy the compressor.
If you didn't do that, i strongly recommend you to remove (with a recuperation station) the old R22 which will probably be contaminated, then use the vacuum pump for an hour to remove the humidity, and then fill up again the unit with the right amount of fluid.
Be CAREFUL
You must use a weight scale to know how much fluid you put in because it's impossible to know with the pressure.
Only the weight can tell you how much you have in the unit.
If you put too much, you risk to have the R22 staying liquid when returning to the compressor, and as liquid is impossible to compress , you will kill the compressor.
But not enough fluid and you will struggle to condense, which mean that you will not evaporate a lot and then will cooling more less (while consuming the same in term of electrical current.
I hope that you did everything well because it's such a nice creation that it will be so bad if it die.
i almost forgot to ask if you are using anti freezing with the liquid in the tank but i"ml pretty sure you did, no? :)=

I had forgotten those dark days, but James had to bring back all of those painful memories. I used to tell everyone that driver issues were the leading cause of heavy drinking for most techs back then. It started with Windows 95 and didn't get much better with Win 98 and beyond.
The reason it was so difficult is that you never knew which driver to install for which revision of a card. You get a CD full of drivers and you often had to guess which one to use. When that didn't work, you tried a different one. When I got one to actually work, I would write down which driver went to which card. The next week, you may get a different revision of the same card and that driver doesn't work. It really sucked!

You're damn luck the refrigerant leaking was vapour rather than liquid. NEVER try and stem a refrigerant leak with your fingers, you could end up with horrific frost burns. Try not to cause a leak, and if a leak occurs, let it go, repair the leak, pressure test the system and recharge.
Really, the gas should have been recovered before any work happened, then the system pressure tested with dry nitrogen, evacuated once proven gas tight and recharged.
(Sorry, but I have to be qualified to deal with refrigerant, conversant with the effect of refrigerant on the environment and can be prosecuted for malpractice. Seeing people fuck about is pretty triggering from a professional point of view.)

@Graham Entwistle Yeah, I do mainly vehicle AC work but still, there was a lot of "oh no, oh Lord what is you doin'?" when they were dealing with the tube break. I usually stick with TEC/water for supercooling, but if I were building a chiller for a PC I would have gone with R134a over R22 if for no other reasons than environmental impact and wide availability of suitable parts, and there are of course other much friendlier and less toxic options for refrigerant.
