I have been trying to put my mark 3 together for two days. Your video is the only one that worked for me and I actually understand why I couldn't get it to work. Thanks
Tried many instructional videos, and none gave the level of detail of this one. I tried to follow the other ones examining every detail. Still no go. The details provided here were exactly what I needed. When I followed these the gun reassembled like butter! Seriously, I was was so frustrated, before. Now I am not afraid to disaasemble this gun when the times for cleaning! Thanks!
I have had this gun for 5 years and still need to watch a video to get the darn thing reassembled. Your video worked better than the instructional video from Ruger. If it was not so much fun to shoot, I would have gotten rid of it years ago.
Two words.......THANK YOU.......I was given one of these beauties, and it’s amazingly fun to shoot......I nearly lost my mind when I tried to reassemble it on my own......
There are lots of Ruger 22/45 Mark III assembly disassembly videos and they seem to work for the guns in those videos, but this is the video that really helped me. It sounds like I made all the same mistakes as you earlier on. Thank you so much for publishing a video that actually works for my gun!
You ROCK!!! First guy to know and show how to get the mainspring assembly back into place hassle free. Wish I had found your video before I waisted 8 hours watching and trying everything to include going to the fridge for a beer.
Wow... 2 hours yesterday and a lot of frustration. Today was a new day, found your video, and two quick tries later it's assembled. AND, I understand now what I was doing wrong. This was really useful and your explanation was the only one that made it clear. Thank you, 8 years after you posted it!
I stumbled upon this video a few years ago. Since then, I refuse to take my MK III apart until I watch/review this video to make sure I can put it back together again. The first time I took the pistol apart, I couldn't get it back together, so I took it to the LGS and left it with him. He ended up sending it to Ruger to be put back together and charged me $35.00. I decided, I've got to figure this out, I can't afford to pay this clown $35.00 every time the pistol needs cleaning and thanks to this video, I have been able to do it. Thanks for putting the video together.
I hadn't used my Mark III in a while and this demo was a great refresher. Easy to break down, re-assembly not so easy, though it's not so bad once you know the pitfalls you've identified. Thanks so much for posting this!
MrEdgar49, Excellent video and explanation for reassembly of Ruger Mark III. I purchased my Mark III several years ago and believe I watched your video then as I always disassemble and clean my new guns. Although a bit complicated disassemble/assemble technique, all went well as I followed your instructions. However, possibly due to the reassembly issue, I found myself using my other 22 cal. handguns for plinking. A few weeks ago I decided to take the Mark III with me to the range. As you noted, it is a "sure shot." I wondered why I had left it in my safe for all of those years. I then decided to give it a cleaning....thinking I knew how to reassemble. Ouch! I viewed at least 10 "RUclips" videos on disassembly/assembly and not a single one thoroughly provided the detailed instructions that would work for me. After a few days of setting the gun aside I tried a few "google" searches for "reassembly of Ruger Mark III" and found your video. I am saving your video address so that I will never have again have to waste time trying to figure out how to assemble my Mark III and will surely be taking the gun to the range on a regular basis. Thank you for your help and a great video.
Wow. This handgun was traumatic to disassemble and re-assemble. After watching a number of other videos, your video and your careful explanation of the last critical step with the mainspring assembly was the absolute ticket. Thanks, man. I really appreciate the very fine job you did with this video! Kudos!!! I'll put permanent bookmark on this video.
Omg. Thank you thank you thank you!!!!! After the 5th video, you’s is the only one that got me assembled!!! This gun about ended up in the drink. I just cleaned 4 pistols in the amount of time this mark took me just to reassemble. You are a savior. Thank you!
First time taking apart my Ruger MKIII Hunter. Everything was very tight at first, but with a bit of tough love came apart. Fumbled with it a few times, but this video helped out alot. After taking apart i was amazed at all the gunk in the gun in all the places i couldn't get to before. Cleaned it, reassembled, it feels like new again. This is how i will clean my gun from now on.
Thanks a million! Just cleaned my Mark iii for only the 2nd time and this helped ease the pain! My son and I watched together as we worked on the pistol! Can't thank you enough!!
8 years old but the only one I found that made putting my Ruger together easily. Watched others but maybe different for Mark I & II. Thank you so much.
I struggle for about a hour last night using your method. Today I succeeded and what I found is that I stopped rotating the gun when it was upside down, pulled the trigger, and eased the strut down. For whatever reason it didn’t work for me to continue the rotation of the gun until the barrel was pointed upwards. Thanks for the tips. Your video still helped a lot.
Outstanding. First cleaning I thought I was going to visit the gunsmith to unjamb the hammer strut. This time around was a breeze. You're video is clear, concise, and well articulated. Nice job..!!!!!!!!!
Had a Ruger in an estate with the mainspring mysteriously out of the gun. Thanks for a video that's not an hour and 45 minutes yet covers the critical reassembly.
Thank you for posting this video. My Mark iii has been in the closet for a few years now because it was not assembled properly after my first cleaning. I did not know how to fix it and did not want to pay someone to fix it either. I went through a few different videos and still couldn't figure it out. I eventually made it to your video and was able to understand how to properly assemble my gun. Thanks again!!!
The only video addressing the magazine in or out and why. I struggled for a long time with a jammed action after reassembly. This fixed my problem. Thanks very much.
Just picked up a Mark III , I’m so glad I found your video. Like many others, I research the hell outta something first and have watched a lot of videos for all sorts of firearms; Your video is top notch ! Thanks so much for the time and effort you put into this for all of us.
Thank you! I bought a Mark I in 1981 and hadn't field stripped it since the late 80's--really needed a good cleaning and oiling!. Had problems figuring out how to get the assembly fitted back up with the receiver, so this helped out a lot. My lesson to myself is to take this apart to clean more often than once every 25 years, in part to remember how to do it!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!! RUclips needs to delete every single video on reassembling this pistol EXCEPT for this one. Seriously. I've been banging my head against the table trying to get the mainspring back in. Rotating the pistol around is absolutely key. I really appreciate this. Ugh, I'm having a beer now.
I was out at the range with my dad today, and he gave me one of these guns as an early birthday present because he has one and loves it. I put a hundred or so rounds through it and was really impressed by the accuracy. i asked him about how difficult it was to field strip for cleaning and he was like "i've never done it, i've just cleaned it with a few swipes through the barrel". This made me realize it was probably difficult to take apart, but I can't imagine owning a gun I don't know how to break down. Thanks!
Just purchased a Ruger Mod. 22/45, and found your video - it is well described, goes through each step nice and slowly, and showed potential pitfalls. I have written down each step, (paused your video and wrote them out in real time), and I'm looking forward to putting this information into practice. Thanks very much Edgar, great job!
Thank you! I inherited the gun from my dad and needed to clear a jam that I stupidly caused myself. Your clear, concise, and best of all simple instructions allowed me to get the gun back in working order. Bravo!
I fought this problem for a long time finally got it right by watching your video you hot it right a fun hand gun to shoot and teach my family how to shoot and clean the 22/45 thank you
You explained very well how to put it together without making a fiasco out of the reassembly. Every time I clean this gun its a nightmare but this video was the a-ha moment in making it easy
you are a gun genius!!! the hammer strut was killing me!! thanks for the easiest and most direct way to deal with this. i just followed your evample and it worked perfect!!! thank you soooo much.
Thank you for posting this video. After watching numerous other videos and failing miserably, I was finally able to get my Mark III reassembled correctly.
Yep I've been through all of the nightmare jam ups more than once to the point where i would avoid shooting it simply because of a personal rule I've made. If I take a firearm out shooting or hunting it gets cleaned before anything else takes place when i get back home. No more avoiding that 22 since watching your video what a big help. Your video easily explained not only how to but why you do it. Can't thank you enough. That Ruger and i are going to establish that close bond again.
This video is way more useful than the video ruger produced. Assembly and disassembly of these guns can be a pain even when you have done it a lot of times. Thanks for the video!
Thanks so much for this informative vid. I tried following Ruger's directions and got the dreaded mainspring jam. I watched a couple of other videos on the problem and got it back apart, but couldn't get it back together. Your video was simple and easy and the rotation at the end did the trick. It's all back together and I no longer feel like throwing my hammer through the wall! Thanks again!
been trying to reasemble my mark III for hours now watching a vid from rugertech couldnt do it got frustrated and scratched my gun :( watched some other vids still couldnt do it watched your vid got it first try. great video and great instruction. thanks
Mr Edgar, you really saved my bacon. I have seen a ton of videos on reassembly of my Ruger 22/45 mrk III Hunter but yours actually helped me get the bloody thing together again.
Thanks so much!!!!! I couldn't get the rear lever back in without it pushing itself out. No one else said that you had to pull the trigger when putting the lever back in. I also got my rear pin caught in the bolt, it was a major PITA to get out
I just like to say thank you very much for your video this is the first time that I disassemble and reassemble a Ruger Mark lll if it wasn't because your video I'm sure I would not have been able to put it back together again thank you very much for this video well explained and well done Fred
Edgar, thank you I just go one for my birthday and I've had hours of problems. I made one small, lets call it an ID mark, on the gun but with your video I don't need to use any force to get the gun apart and together. Thank you. You are better than the manual! :-)
I truly, truly love you Edgar!!! I watched this vid earlier and put a like on it and subscribed just because of the way you presented the video. Then a watched a couple of others including Ruger's vids on disassembly, cleaning and reassembly. Then I disassembled my gun, cleaned it and began putting it back together. (Yep, I can see the smile on your face). That was this morning. It is now about 8 pm and I worked on it off and on until now when I watched this video again and did everything exactly as you showed it. It's finally back together. It jammed on me every time at the last step. And sure after trying 10 or more times I also managed to wedge the dam thing in there. :) Joy! Thank you sir!! Thank God there are some people who know how to make a good video.
This was an excellent tutorial. A simple and robust design that have given people fits in maintaining it. The video made the maintenance of this hand gun allot easier for a number of people. I have seen a number of Ruger Mark series guns damaged and ruined by frustrated owners and this video went along way in not seeing these actions happen again. Hats off to MrEdgar49.
thanks so much for this video. my mark iii was sitting in my dresser for the past 9 months because i had the hardest time putting it back together. thanks again.
After goofing this up I had to send it back to the company… I thought the problem was me… But it probably was but they fixed it for me for free… Thanks for the video
Master Edgar Thank you so much I was having a hell of a time getting the main spring pin in through the bolt until I watched your video like 4 times ( I am a little slow)I have done it 3 times now with almost no effort in comparison to the first time I went through the steps. You're the MAN SIR !!!!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you for the video. I took mine apart for the first time to clean and the reassembly had me to the point of driving my head through the wall. The trick you have about inserting the magazine then taking it out and rotating the gun to get that last handle lever in did it for me. That's where I was hung up. I've installed Geissele triggers on several rifles and had less difficulty than putting this little 22 back together! AAAAGGGGGHHHH! Lol!
Tremendous help, Thanks so much. I often had problems putting mine back together , but after watching your video, I realized a few steps that I was missing. Thanks Again.
Thank you Edgar49! Your orientation on the tricky final hammer pin is what did it for me. I am saving this video’s link as I suspect I will forget the trick.
Thank you so much! After watching numerous other videos and getting stuck on the last step of reassembly, your video allowed me to put it back together no problem. Saving your video for further use! Again thank you so much for your help! Awesome video!
Thank you..thank you..THANK YOU. Only your video solved my problems w/ getting the main spring and hammer strut seat properly. It was a very frustrating experience! Great video
Just used your Vid. to get thur my first reassembly of my 22/45 target model. Thank you. Was scared after heard things about reassembly of it, not true thanks to your video. Thanks again.
You are the best person to explain how to get the hammer strut in and working i had looked at 7 U tube videos and yours covered everything. Ruger should have you do a video on how to work 22 45 and all there other guns. Thank you very much.Peace out
I have had to reference this video for years, Great video.. Thanks for making the reassembly so clear.. If it wasn't for this video I would have sold my 22/45 years ago.. Thanks again for uploading
Nice video. Well narrated and clearly explained.. Before this, reassembly had me totally mixed up during the install of the mainspring assembly, so I turned to RUclips and found your video. I am now ready to hit the range again!
I wish I could 'love' instead of just 'like' this video. Amazing work, my good man. This video was a lifesaver. For the life of me, I couldn't figure out the mainspring housing trick. But you showed me how, and I'll definitely add this to my favorites list. Once again, thank you!
Great video. Thanks much. I have watch other peoples videos before I watched yours that left me scratching my head. After watching you video it was a walk in the park, Thanks again.
Excellent video...probably the best explained on YT...and you’re right...great little pistol for the money...pain in the butt to disassemble and reassemble....thanks again!
I watched three videos previous to this one . Some went a little too fast to keep up with . Some you couldn't stand to listen to . This however was a very well put together educational and informative video . Sir your video was much appreciated because as you well know this sidearm is very particular to its reassembly 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿 thank you very much.
At about the 4:20 mark you don't want to do that step. When you put the barrel on the hammer is already cocked and to the rear once barrel is on just insert the bolt. You can then skip to about the 5:10 mark and proceed. Great video for those having trouble with there 22/45 just an extra step they can avoid.
You know, people will criticize me for this, BUT, for YEARS, I have simply taken the PLASTIC GRIPS off my Mark III and then FLUSH it out with Mineral Spirits. Then gently (low air presure) blow it out, maybe flush it again. Blow it out again. Dirty Mineral Spirits does gather in the Pan I do it over. When nothing but CLEAN solvent comes out, I feel like I am done. I SCRUB the Barrel, then when done, I grease in certain places, like the RAMP etc. So far this has worked FOR ME. My Mark III is stainless I must say. Anyway, one of these days I am sure I will have to Disassemble it and worse put it back together. So, GOOD VIDEO, I am sure it will help me one fo these days, I will Thumbs up the Video. But, the way I have done it has worked so far. It has gotten "sticky" before, this always (so far) has done the trick. It is fairly quick and works for me. BB
The good: Excellent video. Especially rotating the gun while pulling the trigger to align the hammer strut. The not really bad: The lever you pressed was not the safety. It was the bolt lock/release lever. Best video I've seen on this topic.
Hi Edger, great video brother. I have seen several that seem to show whats going on however yours is the only one that actually explains in depth the real problem! A++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ This video is good stuff!
You have saved me from ripping every hair from my head. I have a Volquartsen Scorpion that I paid a small fortune for. This was my first handgun so I had no experience with the Ruger platform. The firearm came with no manual or takedown instructions whatsoever. It did however have a warning that the warranty would be invalid if it wasn't properly maintained. .Hmmm, let's just think about the ridiculousness of that for a moment. After many months of asking, they put the most piss poor video on their website which I tried to follow but there were so many details left out it is no wonder I spent hours without being able to reassemble the gun so it would function. I only watched yours once and had the firearm back together and in perfect working order. Bless you my friend 😀
Excellent video. Was having a problem getting mine back together & found 2 things I was doing wrong. Also have a really tight pistol so the barrel doesn't slide on/off easily & the spring assembly also has to be (gently)tapped back in place. But at least I got all the crud away from the magazine eject button so it actually works now!
Edgar, thank you for this video. I had to watch it several times and then pause, restart, etc. I had a lot of difficulty and some sore fingers by the time I completed the breakdown and reassembly of this handgun. For the life of me, I can't understand why Ruger would make this so difficult. I too had to use a rubber mallet and a block of wood to literally beat the barrel off of the frame. Additionally, I had to use almost the same effort to get it back on so that the holes would line up for the main spring assembly. That was a challenge too. More than once I used my punch set to gently tap it out to start it again. Anyway, after a few hours of effort, I got it all back and all is well. However, I'm giving some thoughts to taking it to a gunsmith to possibly machine out the tight spots. Thanks again!
I've reviewed more than 7 different videos on the Mark III disassembly and reassembly because I was a dodo who disregarded the hammer strut and no have a gun that is jammed. This was by far the best of all the videos for description, filming, explanation and clarity. I just wished it had explained how to resolve the hammer strut jam. Nonetheless The video was awesome.
Hey guy, thank you very much for an extremely accurate video. Have a Mark 1 that nobody could help with, your video showed me how to do it. Again, thank you.
Nice video.I took out my mag-disconnect safety, and replaced it with a Sam Lam hammer bushing.Really makes reassembly a piece of cake, The only problem, I lost the little detent from the safety catch, and now my safety is "floppy" and ruger won't send me another one. I has to be installed by the factory, and if I send it in to do that, they will put the magazine-safety back in the gun. guess 'm screwed.
Thank you so much for the explanation at the end. I struggled with this on several different videos and could not get it to cock back, but with your rotation trick it worked the first time.
I had one of these many years ago. No internet or instructions and it took awhile to figure it all out. I just remember a lot of rotating upside down but I got it. It was a ball to shoot though.
I have been trying to put my mark 3 together for two days. Your video is the only one that worked for me and I actually understand why I couldn't get it to work. Thanks
My brother said I couldn’t do it..... he gave me the pistol as a gift and never cleaned it! It was filthy and your video made it simple! God bless!
Tried many instructional videos, and none gave the level of detail of this one. I tried to follow the other ones examining every detail. Still no go. The details provided here were exactly what I needed. When I followed these the gun reassembled like butter! Seriously, I was was so frustrated, before. Absolute hero. Couldn't get my grandpa's gun he left me to work. Now it works. Thanks!
Two words.......THANK YOU.......I was given one of these beauties, and it’s amazingly fun to shoot......I nearly lost my mind when I tried to reassemble it on my own......
I'm not sure what just happened in the last 30 seconds, but it was pure magic and saved me about a week of frustration... thank you very much.
such clear and sensible instructions. appreciate cha! thank u!
There are lots of Ruger 22/45 Mark III assembly disassembly videos and they seem to work for the guns in those videos, but this is the video that really helped me. It sounds like I made all the same mistakes as you earlier on. Thank you so much for publishing a video that actually works for my gun!
The best video for reassembling the Mark II. He clearly showed how to properly set the mainspring assembly. Thanks.
You ROCK!!! First guy to know and show how to get the mainspring assembly back into place hassle free. Wish I had found your video before I waisted 8 hours watching and trying everything to include going to the fridge for a beer.

I hadn't used my Mark III in a while and this demo was a great refresher. Easy to break down, re-assembly not so easy, though it's not so bad once you know the pitfalls you've identified. Thanks so much for posting this!
Thanks Edgar, First time cleaning our new Mark3. Could not have made it through the owners manual without your video. Much easier.
MrEdgar49,

Great demonstration, after multiple attempts and bloody fingers i was able to put this gun back together. You are a hero 👍. Many thanks sir.
I was ready to sell this gun until I saw this video and now I think it might become my favorite. Thanks, Mr. Edgar.
Save me once: Thank you! Save me twice: What did I do wrong? Save me THREE times: Please don't delete this video!!!
HAHAHAHAHA, just got this pistol today. Already wondering how many times I'm gonna watch this.
Great Video !!!
I put my laptop on my workbench and ran your video while
I disassembled and reassembled my 22/45.. Great Help for Sure..
Thank you so much! After watching numerous other videos and getting stuck on the last step of reassembly, your video allowed me to put it back together no problem. Saving your video for further use! Again thank you so much for your help! Awesome video!
Thank you! You are the man. Been feeling like a dummy for 30 mins you made it easy.
After watching several videos, I’m glad I found yours! Great explanation and walkthrough! Thank you.
Thanks Edger. Saved my gun from sailing out of the window.
Life saver ! Even with you describing exactly how to do it, I did it wrong the first two times. Slow learner here, but I got it now. Thank you.
Sir your video was much appreciated because as you well know this sidearm is very particular to its reassembly 👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿 thank you very much.
ayyyy look at goldylocks ova here
At about the 4:20 mark you don't want to do that step. When you put the barrel on the hammer is already cocked and to the rear once barrel is on just insert the bolt. You can then skip to about the 5:10 mark and proceed. Great video for those having trouble with there 22/45 just an extra step they can avoid.
You have the best assembly video! I failed with two others!
BB
I'm sure it's much better than no cleaning. long as any contact parts are lubricated after shouldn't have any problems.
God I love RUclips. Thank you sir for making my life easier. I thought my night was ruined.
Holy smokes I'd give you a hug. Took me 3 hrs. What a nightmare. You helped me first Try 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 best video
svt283 that’s it took me 5 hours 😂😂😂😂 I was starting to think I was a little retarded
Mine has sat in a drawer for months just because I didn't want to deal with it
The good: Excellent video. Especially rotating the gun while pulling the trigger to align the hammer strut. The not really bad: The lever you pressed was not the safety. It was the bolt lock/release lever. Best video I've seen on this topic.
God bless you brother. I was ready to sell mine. I loved to shoot it, dreaded cleaning it!!!! You explained it soooo well!!!
Well done. You are so correct about the pain factor, just watching you is good enough for me!
Hi Edger, great video brother. I have seen several that seem to show whats going on however yours is the only one that actually explains in depth the real problem!
A++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
This video is good stuff!
Could not have done it without you. Thanks.
Great detailed video! I was struggling with jams and this video cleared it up very nicely. Keep up the great work, Edgar!
You are a lifesaver...Better video than what even Ruger put out on their page!
Thank you for saving me so much pain and frustration!!!!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH! i was losing my mind trying to get that rear spring assembly in.
Thank you for the video. My bolt would not come back after assembly. Followed along in the video and it went right together. Thank you.
Excellent video, had to watch it a couple of times to get it right. Your explanation was right on. Thank you
I had one of these many years ago. No internet or instructions and it took awhile to figure it all out. I just remember a lot of rotating upside down but I got it. It was a ball to shoot though.
