You might not have heard of Fisker yet, but the company is being touted as the next Tesla - if they can navigate their way through some choppy financial waters and finally get production started. The Ocean SUV is due in the UK next year and is a truly innovative electric car. This is the company’s second model and it looks like another peach - it’s the Pear.
Fisker has revealed more details its ‘city car’, which is due to follow the bigger Ocean SUV into production in 2025. It will have two battery choices, giving claimed ranges of 198 or 320 miles range and a starting price which undercuts a Corsa Electric at £30,900.
The Pear will be built in the US in collaboration with Foxconn, the company which is best known for its huge iPhone assembly factories in China. It uses a lightweight steel body structure which Fisker claims uses 35% fewer parts than a conventional electric car. But that doesn’t mean it's a small car, and at 4,550mm it’s actually longer than a Nissan Qashqai
Besides its lightweight and cheap-to-manufacture structure and drivertrain, the Pear features numerous clever features to make life easier for urban drivers. These include a bootlid which slides down into the back bumper, an insulated ‘frunk’ for keeping takeaways warm and a van-like bench front seat which turns it into a six-seater.

This kind of car is what the market wants. Great design and very practical. Would certainly buy 1 if they ever get produced and are reliable.
Are you joking? This is one of the ugliest cars I have seen so far.
It will be produced. There’s no question about that.
Now, will it be reliable? Time will tell.
Don't like the design at all. The ocean's design I like a lot.
@@sebastian5903 agree ive definitely seen worse but this isn't my favorite the ocean on the other hand looks fire 🔥
Duh. But that is the challenge right?
I sure hope this makes it to market. Here in the US we miss out on a many or most of the nice smaller EVs. I currently have a 2017 Kia Soul EV and love it... but wouldn't mind more range and was saddened that the new Soul never came to us... same with the VW ID 2ALL and so many others. a year and a half wait though is a while for a company teetering on bankruptcy; I do hope it makes it!
It's coming to US. They even making it in US so that it qualifies for federal credit
Thank you for showing us this car. We will hold our nerve that this company can deliver this car to the uk🎉
We definitely need more practical, family cars like this 😊
I wish them well. A local (at the time) high volume Ford dealer had eight Fisker Karma on the lot when I was helping a friend shop for a new car about a decade ago. The fit and finish was awful and it was way overpriced back then. Hopefully if/when it comes to America they won't repeat some of Tesla's mistakes. Use real buttons/dials/switches for basic controls and have actual quality control so they aren't three different shades/textures of paint and the panels are properly aligned and don't leak or rattle. Function needs to start trumping form if EVs are going to gain wider acceptance faster. "Normal" people don't like it when basic things like door handles that work in winter, fog lights, glove boxes, and rear wipers are removed from a car simply to save the manufacturer money to the detriment of the user. My friend ended up buying an Acura that she still owns BTW.
Different company and more importantly different factory. Judge the Ocean by Ocean reviews. Judge the Pear by Pear reviews...
Yeah, removing the rear wiper is insane from all of these SUV based EVs. Also, I want buttons, I don't like touch screens nor do many buyers I speak with because they find them distracting or hard/confusing to use. Why change a good model that works? My Ford pickup has big dials to turn for heat and radio, that's what the majority of US consumers want based on the F150 being one of the best selling vehicles in the USA.
Ocean is being delivered in the U.K. later this month.
Ginny matching the outfit to the Car priceless 😂
Yeah, she did that with the VW the other day too, so it's definitely a thing she likes to do! Can you imagine: respected car journalist gets detailed spec of car, "yeah but but what colour is it?!😅
🥱
4:30 "pear-ed back approach" 😂 the best pun Ginny made and she didn't even notice
This is the car the world needs. I just hope Fisker survives long enough to get this into production because if it does it will sell gangbusters especially in places like Canada where small cars and CUV's rule the roost...
Sounds great, but do you remember the price level the Ora Cat was supposed to be. IF they can make it and IF they can keep to the price level it could be very interesting.
Same strap line being wheeled out for the new VW GTi concept. Doubt this brand will ever reach our shores in RHD form either.
The Ora Cat was dead on arrival following the price rise and the appalling launch vehicle configuration.
@@Banyan314 My point exactly. We were told it was going to be around £25k. At that price point we could have forgiven some of the dreadful mistakes, name included, but not at the eventual cost.
@@anthonycollingridge970there's already RHD Oceans in the UK and customer deliveries are due to start shortly.
The Houdini boot is going to disappear like a magician’s coin when it comes time to build the Pear. Fun, yes, but also kinda dumb. Car looks great though. Reminds me of my Kia Soul.
I think that parking half a metre further from a wall or car behind would be a small price to pay for a "regular" hatch rear and that cost saving can then come off the price tag (and it would probably avoids a future reliability issue).
I fully agree, and an ordinary hatch door would also free up a lot of space "under" the floor. Besides, a normal hatch door is great for keeping us dry from the rain here in rainy north western europe.
I don't even want a power operated hatch. Less to break. And NO sunroof, they always leak.
I would take a hatch with a roll down window over the whole thing rolling down into the bumper. Seems needlessly complex and if you wanted to toss something like groceries in the back you could easily just roll the back glass down.
The disappearing tailgate is actually a modern interoperation of the Glide-Away Tailgate General Motors had on their station wagons in the 1970s.
We need long range electric vehicles under $30k, who can come up with that recipe, will conquer consumers
My only complaint is that it has 20 inch wheels. I really wish that someone would put on a smaller diameter wheel on a modern car. Is there any reason you the larger amount of rolling mass that comes with a larger wheel and tire means less efficiency and larger costs down the road because buying a 20 inch tire is not an inexpensive proposition. I realize electric cars weigh more than their internal combustion engine counterparts and that means needing larger brakes. But, if I gigantica American pickup truck can make do with smaller brakes of less than 15 in I'm entirely certain Fisker or anyone else could as well.
My thoughts as well 👏👏👏
As a concept right off the vine it's a very interesting car. I would hope that this version gets a few changes to the interior though as right now it's taking the pip. Let's hop that the production version when it ripens bears fruit.
What is your core thoughts? I like it and could see replacing my Bolt in a few years. I've had the Bolt since November 2017 and have 71,000+ miles on it. Since it lives in my garage when not in use, it still looks brand new on the exterior. My dog has provided the wear and tear on the interior. She's out of her gourd when we go bye-bye.
Spiritual successor to the Honda FRV and Fiat Multipla ❤
Take my money now. The space in the back of the car, the range and tail gate and price, trump the Volvo EX30 by a huge margin.
I’d love to see this come with the HUD as a safety feature.
Absolutely love the look and practicality of this car ❤
I am so frustrated! I have to change my car this year. I’d have loved to put a Pear on the drive. It has massive a-peal. It would make a superb car for us disabled drivers. I hope it end up on Motability. I look forward to my first drive review.
The thing with Fisker is that you have to accept 7-8 years delay for their delivery date. So this model may come to market in 2030 or 2035. 1 thing is important though.... don't pay upfront...
I really hope they make the car. It looks amazing. However not sure on the bench seat at the front
Bench seat is an option. You can get a 5 seat version if you want.
Really interesting. A company with more money and experience of mass building cars should buy Fisker and get these amazing designs in the market
The cars are built by Magna Steyr who make some of the Merc and Jag lineup.
@@spankeyfish yes, and that’s fine if they want to stay a niche manufacturer. But that doesn’t appear to be the strategy. I’m not sure how they get to scale from here
Probably the first time I've heard someone besides Robert Llewellyn say froot instead of frunk; good to finally see it spreading!
Cleaver and thoughtful design. There is much to like. I hope they rethink the front as it is a bit busy looking and the height of the front seats make the second row seem very closed in.
Fisker needs first to prove that they can mass produce a car. He is good at raising money, that is for sure. Looks all nice on paper even if this averagely build prototype (hatch misalignment, dull interior), needs to prove its quality. Volvo, even if the EX30 is produced by Geely, has a more sustainable approch and a manufacturing track record.
Finally a car with a small touch screen! Much nicer than a huge telly
Lol.
Curious, what do you dislike about a larger screen? I could name a lot of issues with smaller screens..
@@bobhope3940 too distracting & fiddly eyes should be on the road not a screen
@@Clappers89 sounds like a personal problem to me. The smaller screen would almost certainly make the items on screen smaller so I think you're proving your own point incorrect...
Go big or go home! Hahaha
It's not the ipad on the wheels but car with a touch screen @@bobhope3940
We used to watch your real estate channel and loved it! Great job in this new venture👍
When I first saw it I thought, oh no it's another small car that won't have any range, but after seeing you sit in it and stand in front of it, I'm guessing it's bigger than expected. I just wish Fisker can sort out it's production and software.
Interesting for sure, forward vision for rear passengers very limited but, a ton of excellent features on offer 😀
i would like to see a production model, and will this be sold in the UK by dealers?
What a great car, hope it goes in to full production and we get it in the UK. It's a lovely design.
It is not the first car made by Henry Fisker - 12 years ago there was the Karma, which was one of the first real plugin hybrid cars. But the company went down, and these are the first models of "the new Fisker company".
Thanks, lets hope it makes it to the UK at this price point, it would do very well as a not too many frills 6 seater.
Looks like a perfect ridesharing car - hope it'll be offered with some sort of wipe-down/vinyl seating and not merely cloth upholstery.
I really hope we See this Car 2026 in Europe and UK this is a very smart car / Idea and the Specs and prices Sounds great. Thanks for the Video.
Great car but a bit too wide for the UK? No chance it will be £30k in the UK
My worry is this car won't see the light of production however could be surprised. The 3 seats up front doesn't work as Top Gear talked about when Honda tried it with the severed head of the parents daughter floating on the dash as Jeremy/Richard/James talked about but really a family of 4 who gets left in the back by themselves?? I am curious to know why they insulated the frunk and how big it is as I'd only put charge cables in it which don't need insulating.
Insulated frunk for carrying food
So…the rear hatch folds down for tight parking spaces, but the froot slides out? Seems super conflicted. I’ve one on reserve…hoping for a few functional design changes.
Every review of the electrifying: how amazing, genius, ideal, exactly what we need. Get objective already.
I remember seating with one of my Grandpa's car where two people can sit in the front, and if this thing becomes true I'll applaud. I understand safety reasons why not but I hope this thing becomes true.
The prettiest eye catching hatchback design one can imagine
The OCEAN and PEAR both look great! Hopefully they turn out to be as good as they look.
So the boot door 'folds' under the boot floor… which would've been better used for storage.
The boot is very BMW Z1 and that really caught on….
We have four kids and this sort of layout would really work for us. It's a shame so few manufacturers offer the option of three upfront. Otherwise we're reliant on using a normal seven seat layout which means no useable boot space.
This is Fisker's THIRD car. Their first was the Karma -- a PHEV -- had a bad habit of catching fire.
His first car was made by Fisker Automotive which went bust in 2013, and these are made by Fisker Inc.
It's a totally different company with totally different employees. Ridiculous comment. BTW look for "Tesla fire" on Google their record for fires is not very good.
Tough competition for the Volvo EX30
But Volvo have an extensive dealership network and that matters.
Volvo is premium. The quality of Pear resembles the fruit
how do you get a Fisker serviced?
Nice exterior styling, like the return of the disappearing tailgate but inside is pure Fisher-Price and not in a good way.
The electric Fiat Multipla...
My first thought too as soon as Ginny said front bench seat.
Looks a lot nicer than the Fiat Multipla. Only similarity is the seats and here it is an option.
Have the given boot and frunk capacity figures?
$250 reservation Definitely not bad to get my hands on this sooner rather than later. We need a good alternative to Tesla especially after all the news coming out about them.
Tesla owners start to get the rep. of Audi/BMW owners... starts with A and ends with HOLES.
GREAT CAR, I LIKE THE DESIGN. Really good, when will it come tyo EU, UK .
My parents' early-1970s Pontiac Grand Safari station wagon had a clamshell tailgate which disappeared down into the body. What's old is new again.
Indeed - several 70s sedans had bench front seats too…
that A pillar is something else
I love the build quality of the steering colum at 6:20
Its just a concept carmodel 😃
"Janky" is the word that immediately popped into my head. 😂😂😂
Looks like it was made out of Legos.
A local Ford dealer had eight Fisker Karmas in a row when I was helping a friend car shop about a decade ago. The fit and finish was awful. And those were production cars with six figure MSRPs. I would expect ones costing a quarter as much to be even worse. After my friend finished looking the salesman grabbed the fob to one of the Karmas and I still remember how poorly the headliner had been installed. My friend pointed to a crease and hump in it and asked why it was like that. I said "Shit quality control" and both her and the salesman laughed. No need for a test drive.
@@Noah_E the Fisker Ocean production was outsourced to Magna in Austria, who build cars for Jaguar, Mercedes, BMW and have a good reputation for quality... from all reviews so far the fit and finish seems spot on... the Fisker PEAR is being made somewhere else of course, so we will have to see if they keep up the standard (an iphone production line is very different to a car production line!).
I was excited about it but the interior looks like it was designed buy Fisher Price... How to hold that steering wheel ? I'm disappointed a little bit. I like the tree seats in the first row though
6 seats, 320miles? Reasonable price? Sold!
Like that font set set up. Would rather see some recycled aggregate plastic than that bright turquoise blue plastic. Granted it is a show car and needs to be loud.
the back looks a bit like the Pontiac Aztek, in a good way though
Interested in switching to EV but hard to find an affordable car with more than 5 seats with a decent boot to fit a pram or two, typical for the average family... but this might change my mind.
Beautiful car, love the colour too 👍
ugh... Gorgeous but the front "grille" is extended up and looks to be a pain to clean. It would be nicer and sleeker without it.
looks nice. rear looks like a bigger gti, but the door mech will fail.
This price is pure fantasy, let's see first if they can even bring to market the Ocean with quality, reliability, price competitiveness, customer satisfaction, repair, etc.
Freaking amazing open space by removing the center console. This needs to be the way forward and ditch the large plastic center consoles that steal hip room, knee room, and legroom.
Nice car, nice price. Let's just hope things aren't going to go pear-shaped at Fisker...
With the front bench, the back seat looks slightly claustrophobic and may cause car sickness not being able to see between the usual gap in the front seats. Hopefully they will offer a center console version too. I need my arm rest 😊
it is early days, but Fisker have said they will offer both a 5 seat and 6 seat variation... with the 5 seat variation, the infotainment screen can rotate between landscape and portrait, but it is fixed in landscape for the 6 seater.
The headrest arrangement does look like you can still somewhat see through the bench. No worse than being in the back row of a 7 seater
Exciting. Fingers crossed for Fisker 🤞
Has Buckley hit the Lambrini? She’s gone bananas. What a great, fun introduction to the Pear.
I too hope Fisker ‘make it’. The waiting list for the Ocean is now massive, and it deserves to sell. Let’s hope the Pear gets to market asap and creates them a big fat positive cash flow.
I expect a few challenges in the production of the Fisker Pear. Foxconn has never mass produced a car before. Foxconn will also be using an unfamiliar repurposed American factory with US workers and an American supply chain. This business environment is very different from the abundant labor markets, loose labor regulations, lower labor costs, plentiful and dynamically responsive supply chains, and government support Foxconn enjoys in China.
The Fisker Ocean, manufactured by Magna International in their Graz Austria plant, is a very different story. With the Ocean, Fisker is working with an excellent established automotive subsystem supplier and contract manufacturer, in a familiar business environment. Shared German language and culture between Henrik Fisker and Magna's Austria factory may also help establish rapport and ensure common expectations.
I hope to see the Pear in volume on American roads. The more affordable BEVs available, the better. For now, however, I am keeping my expectations very much in check.
The average vehicle occupancy for commuting in the US is 1.29 persons per vehicle. This means that most people drive alone to work, and only a few carpool with others.
So you definitely need an 8-seater, 7-seater or at least 6-seater in America to be great again!
Am I the only one that wonders how Fisker can bring a car to market with such low pricing when it does not even manufacture it's own cars? This makes no financial sense considering Tesla has been doing this for 12 years and is probably the only EV manufacturer able to turn a profit on it's cars. I would say Fisker is looking for massive investment and trying to make itself look attractive and then try to figure out how it can make the numbers stack up.
You are presuming that in house production costs less than outsourcing production? Maybe that's where you are wrong?
Reminds me a bit of a previous model Renault Megane.
You wonder why other EV makers haven't thought about going 6 seater sooner. I'd give up the fancy boot for plusher door materials though.
I’m worried Fisker will be a Houdini company 😅
Waiting for the trunk to trash a purse or pinch on a strap.
All in all looks sturdy.
Too bad Foxconn is involved, they're quite problematic...At least Ocean is built with Magna Steyr.
I thought the ocean was very nice, but it seems the pear is just as good and very quirky, fun car.
Pearsonally I like how you can fit a pear of children up front.
Trying to judge the headroom; how tall is the reviewer please?
I just want physical knobs for AC and volume control...
Amazing features paired to a super price
Nice video.
Great outside and some fab features but, inside it just looks a bit well... dull.
Froot! Much better than Frunk. A great place to plant your groceries.
What happens if the screen is broken?
I would def grab one of these!
Practical and nice exterior design, but I didn’t appreciate the interior design at all. Feels sooooo cheap inside
It's too minimalist for me.
A HUD will make a big difference.
Agreed. I have never liked center “do all” screens in Tesla 3 & Y. I want my speedometer and essential driver information in front of the steering.
Lots of legroom in the driver's' seat I see :)
Cracking car for the price
2 things to note
1) I love the way spending 30k on a car is now considered ‘affordable’ ….and
2) unfortunately the interior is rather disappointing and really lets this car down.
I was excited as this is being built down the road from me! But after finding out that the $30k only gets like 180 miles (don’t quote me!) and that I don’t know how reliable a new brand will be I’m going to pass and look at the Ultium Bolt EV or the Tesla small car instead!
It all depends if you got 180 declared or real life.. because if this real life figure, this is not a bad result for 30k six seater.
@@michalklucz6907 our 2020 bolt cost us 15k and does 240-280 miles real world per charge in mixed driving here in ATL.
A brand new base bolt can be had post tax credit for under 20k easily.
They are also updating it switching over to ultium tech supposedly next year? Then it should have 10% increase in range, 150+kw charging, maybe a heat pump etc. Prob still at sub 30k base pricing and built in America with us sourced cells so fully tax credit eligible. 👍🏻
The guy who created Fisker, Henrik Fisker, worked at Ford before he started up his own company. Under the circumstances, I suspect that there shouldn't be too many problems associated with reliability. The company is well perceived within the industry, the problems are more related to their financial precariousness.
@@davidcolin6519he also worked on designs for Aston Martin and designed the BMW Z8 as well as his own Fisker Karma
what is over under on bankruptcy?
Ginny is so incredibly beautiful.
Calm down creep.
The skirt is not flattering she looks quite dumpy, it’s so tough being a woman but the camera adds 10kilos
A quite nice car. But I have problem to concentrate myself while she was speaking on drivers's seat...😀👍👍
Is Fisker on board with NACS? It's the only functional, comprehensive national system in the USA. Thanks, that's the only grape I have.
Looks a little cheap inside, hopefully they'll improve it in production. By the way, Jonny Smith has been steadfastly calling them froots instead of frunks for ages....
6:48 "This is a concept car so lots of the stuff isn't working"... judging from the reviews online they only ever sold concept cars.
Please make this.
It's going to sell like fresh bread! I can't wait!
