Bonjour from France and thanks for a great review of this interesting car. I've owned an e-Niro since 2019 and it has been faultless. My local Kia dealer says we won't get the EV5 until next year, this may be because Kia have a plant in Slovakia and may produce it there to take full advantage of any European country incentives. We don't put tariffs on cars coming from China as the USA does but anything built in Europe will get incentives, certainly here in France. The key to EV5 success is of course making them in volume.
Looks great. Dual motor would be good if the price is right. But how annoying will the safety features be? If not intrusive noise wise, this could be a good seller for KIA!
That's unfortunate if true. 1250kg braked is too low for my use case. If it was 1800kg (like the EV6 GT-line), I'd have bought it in an instant. Would likely still have bought it if it matched the 1600kg of the EV6 Air.
@wmfoster We currently have the EV6 GT Line, but the EV5 has so much more tech, like OTA voice control for the cars systems, unlike EV6, which only works with a phone, even the overpriced EV9 lacks any of that!
Hi Paul. A bit off topic here. Give that the ex Holden proving ground is going to be up for sale. And given that of course that's where you guys do the majority of your reviews. How does that look for reviews going forward?? If/when sold. Also given the high profile of the Investors in CarExpert. Have they thought about purchasing the ground?? On the EV5. It will need to be $10k less than the Tesla Model Y for the base spec. For it to seriously challenge for sales.
I suspect the shift from EGMP, from NMC battery, from RWD and from 800 v architecture is a money saving exercise - if it manifest as a product at a great price then jobs a good one but if not sadly a fail. Let’s hope the other offerings (EV3 and EV4) which Kia in 2020 announced would all be built on the EGMP are not compromised like this offering. We need competitive pricing to be driven by economies of scale, improved manufacturing technique and innovation leading to cheaper batteries not by compromise on materials, design or technology!

The car is also expected to come with advanced features such as wireless charging, smart driving assistance, and a spacious interior with plenty of legroom and cargo space. Overall, the 2024 Kia EV5 is shaping up to be a highly anticipated addition to the EV market, offering a combination of style, comfort, and performance that is sure to impress.
You can't have that front lighting bar !! Because of pedestrians 😅😅😅😅 what a joke in Australia but you have hutes and suv's with massive roobars in front of them so you can kill just anyone on the road 😅
One difference is Tesla has runs on the board. In terms of reliability and resale value, their models are a known quantity. We don't know how the Chinese KIA will compare until it's been selling here for a couple of years. One thing going in KIA's favour is its dealer network, as mentioned by Paul.
No NMC possible kinda disappoints me.. sure NMC is better with 80% max charge.. more like 75% but for everyday use, you usually don't need more. I can keep my car with NMC at 50% all the time.. so yeah.. LFP is good, esp today's LFP but if I could choose, I'd prefer NMC over LFP.. seen too many videos from Doctors in battery tech and my take away from it is that a proper managed NMC is superior..
Why is everyone so stupid to compare the price of a Tesla?! The Tesla has a much smaller battery at just 60kwh while the EV5 has an 88kwh battery! That's 28kwh bigger!
Why would you have a problem of the boot underfloor having cable there? You gotta be sliglty on the dumb side to waste the frunk which is literally made for the cables and truck is for having luggage.
Calm down, everyone. This is a FIRST LOOK. The time to get excited is when the Australian price and Australian stock are available, and Paul does a FULL test of the Australian version.
Calm down, here in NZ we already have the price for all 5 trim levels. Price starts at $68k for the Light model and ends at $85,450 for the AWD GT Line plus ORC, all our models get the same battery size that being 88kwh
Where does the claim come from that NMC batteries should only be charged to 80%? While there may be concerns about the durability of low-cost Chinese NCM batteries, the high-performance and high-density NCM batteries using high-nickel content from companies like SK, LG, or Samsung have already proven their durability through numerous cases in the market

Who knows if they are legal or not, and who really cares anyway (not me). I was merely making a comment about OTHER cars that already have lightbars. End of story.
2 thumbs up for your desert boots!! 😊
Wrt the EV5, the more powerful motor on the front? Ick.
Also, 70kW battery? The Id4 has 82kW. I wonder what the range is. Here in Canada I'm not sure that size of battery with the AWD would sell. Or maybe we will get a different setup.
Sucks for you Australians as here in NZ we only are getting one battery size that being 88kwh
I wonder if the ev5 and ev9 design language will influence the new kia ute or will they steal some stuff from the ranger?
Exterior wise I have heard that it will look a lot like the Kia Mohave, a 3rd row suv for the Korean market. I think carexpert has mentioned it on one of their videos as well.
I think my family would LOVE one of these. Presently driving an MG4 and either want something more affordable like a BYD Seagull if it ever comes here or this which is a bit more aspirational for a lower income earner like myself.
How is the light bar available in the Kona, Sonata, BYD and Volkswagen then?
Sounds like Paul got fed a nonsense answer from a rep

Can it tow? If so what’s the max with electric brake controller fitted ?
750kg unbraked 1250kg braked.
I have pre release brochure.
That's unfortunate if true. 1250kg braked is too low for my use case. If it was 1800kg (like the EV6 GT-line), I'd have bought it in an instant. Would likely still have bought it if it matched the 1600kg of the EV6 Air.
@gregb1599, how much for a sneak peak at that pre-release brochure?
@@wmfoster It's not a secret brochure any Kia dealerships have them
@wmfoster We currently have the EV6 GT Line, but the EV5 has so much more tech, like OTA voice control for the cars systems, unlike EV6, which only works with a phone, even the overpriced EV9 lacks any of that!
I'd love to know where they are sourcing the LFP batteries. Hopefully CATL?
BYD.
I’ve been searching for an EV that I could sleep in for a long time!😊
Good question as this aspect of Paul's reviews sets it apart from all the other superficial reviewers in Australia.
The power outlet in the boot looks non compliant with the Australian wiring rules. Looks upside down.
I'm waiting for the ev2
Can’t wait to see this and check it out at Kia
the mg zs ev has a sun roof and it opens, and there is also a sun screen, so as one of the cheaper evs around it aint too bad........
Looks pretty good, price dependant… great review, thanks
Around 60k to market to the masses. If it’s over 80k good luck with that.
will need to be a fair bit cheaper than model Y as this will keep the dealership model of servicing every 12 months whether as tesla dont.
Only 400V unlike the 800V EV6/EV9
Not the same E-GMP platform as the EV6/EV9
Different battery
Made in China
Is it really a KIA?
plenty of companies build cars not in their home countries
is a ford ranger built in thailand really a ford?
@@jackcalow2430 That's an equally good question.
@@jackcalow2430aye, the ranger works so it can't be.
@@jackcalow2430the difference is they build the same design globally. This is more of a badge engineered model.
Love it, but not those 4-spoke style wheels.
I would swap those immediately.
When will you review the Tank 500?
The EV9 looked like a mean transformer thing... this really hasnt got the same road menace
The 2024 Kia EV5 is an upcoming electric vehicle from Kia that promises to be a game-changer in the world of EVs. With a futuristic and stylish design, the EV5 is expected to have a range of up to 300 miles on a single charge, making it a practical option for daily commutes and long road trips alike.
That dash hook is probably a purse hook.
Finally a worthy competitor to Model Y!
One difference is Tesla has runs on the board. In terms of reliability and resale value, their models are a known quantity. We don't know how the Chinese KIA will compare until it's been selling here for a couple of years. One thing going in KIA's favour is its dealer network, as mentioned by Paul.
It will be a good competition to model y
"more affordable" "but we dont know price yet"
does it come with REAR WIPER?🎉
Thanks for the sneak peak, greetings from the Netherlands
Why didn't you do a performance test inside the showroom? 😂😂
We wanted to do the reverse speed test but didn’t want to spoil the full review when it comes out
@@CarExpertAus 🤣🤣🤣
Just curious, will you guys review the latest TANK 500 by GWM anytime soon?
There are other RUclips channels in Australia that have tested the Tank 500, do some research.
@@Richard-sl8we But are they the top reviewers, okay?
Used MG4 XPOWERs are already available at 25k, makes every other EV irrelevant
No NMC possible kinda disappoints me.. sure NMC is better with 80% max charge.. more like 75% but for everyday use, you usually don't need more. I can keep my car with NMC at 50% all the time.. so yeah.. LFP is good, esp today's LFP but if I could choose, I'd prefer NMC over LFP.. seen too many videos from Doctors in battery tech and my take away from it is that a proper managed NMC is superior..
It better be less than $60k on the road.. otherwise it'll be too close to Tesla Y prices, and most would just choose the Tesla Y.
@@gregb1599Do all EV5 models have the same braked towing capacity in NZ?
@wmfoster Yep 1250kg braked
Why no spare tyre. Not enough charging in Qld
Looks great. Will be strongly considering.
Nice a smaller EV9 or Bigger EV3. I do like the EV5...
Makes no sense to say Australia can’t have the LED strip. Hyundai and BYD do them??
Where does the claim come from that NMC batteries should only be charged to 80%? While there may be concerns about the durability of low-cost Chinese NCM batteries, the high-performance and high-density NCM batteries using high-nickel content from companies like SK, LG, or Samsung have already proven their durability through numerous cases in the market
All manufacturers with NMC batteries quote charging to 80% daily and only charging beyond for longer trips.
Does it come with Kia Connect?
Hope not. At least I hope it can be turned off
Yes it does and OTA
My son Sunny kapoor purchase the KIA on 27 May in Victoria Melbourne Gifted his mother and sister family who Visited Melbourne 27 th may from INDIA Given Surprise. I am Sunny kapoor father in India crazy to ride KIA very soon visit Melbourne.
