We don't know what the US model will have and may not know for 6 more months. Charging at 800v (tesla can't) will be good for long road trips. Also how is teams going to upgrade its charger network after soon mysteriously fired everyone in that part of the business.. I'm needing a car/small SUV w/roof rack like the ev5 but capable of 400 miles at 80mph.. Here in central US it's a LOT of miles between chargers and none are near state or national parks. Kia has been known to give really good estimates for the range of their vehicles. Their cars even have a choice of the range indication for the type of driving you do. The EV6 and EV3 have been known to be even more efficient than they quote hovering around 3.2-2.6 kwh/mile.
All sounds pretty sensible Sam. Thanks for your thoughts. I've been looking at your videos a lot recently as we need to get a new car to replace our aging 2013 Ford Territory; using a novated lease. Having an existing dealer network to rely on and long warranty’s also mean a lot as well. However …. if you are an early adopter or know about EV technology already then Sam is correct , there are better choices for specifications and value. Sam, I love your informative channel but you really don't fully understand what ownership of an EV entails. If you drive 150 plus k's per day or if you don't have home charging then charging speed is important. It also means keeping your car charged will be a constant challenge. But otherwise you just plug in at home just like your phone, night after night, year after year. If you go on the odd road trip then plan regular coffee breaks around charger availability, a bit of pre planning there, then even at a slow 70 or 80kwh charge rate, your car will have enough charge after your coffee to get you to your next break from the road. Unless you are some sort of marathon man intending on driving 1000k's or more, you just don't need long range or fast charging. Choose your car on the features it may or may not have. For me rear wheel drive and an LFP battery led me to a Tesla M3. Now there are more choices but I would stick with the brand cause it just works for me.
Of course it does, that is why he thinks you get more range. If it really did give more range why would manufacturers put the bigger wheels on in the first place!
Test drove the Zeekr X and was quite frankly underwhelmed. Tiny boot, bouncy suspension and a bonnet that's almost impossible to close without one side failing to latch. Plus the dealer knew nothing about the car.
How does this differ from the EV6? I just charged at 176 kW and I think it can charge at up to 232kW? Also, most sales here have the larger battery. Our EV6 is getting well over 300 mile range in the summer with a 77kW battery pack. I think an 88kW pack would have us close to 400 mile range.
Viking, the TSLA roll out was a flop. But, the future is still electric. I believe taxis could start slower. Like subway stations take you from one station to another. In Italy cabs take you from one stand to another. This would be easier to self driving accomplish.
Sam, when you say "switch to smaller wheels," are you also recommending a higher-profile tire? So that the overall rolling circumference is the same? I'd like to know why doing that extends your range.
@@netgnostic1627 A smaller wheel rim always means a larger tyre to ensure the outside diameter does not change. The whole driving dynamics of the car are designed around that diameter. Having lived with cars for 45years somethings you dont look at especially when it comes to the Chinese and these are longevity. Longevity of the parts and getting them in 10 years time. Corrosion, when I hear ppl saying "the paint is thin" that raises alarm bells. I have a lot of confidence in the Tesla and the Kia and little with the chinese brands.
He means diameter not circumference with the wheel sizes and the Tesla and Xpeng might have faster charging speeds but there aren’t too many chargers that can take advantage unless you’re in China perhaps. The range certainly on the bigger battery Kia should be adequate unless you’re located in a very large country with a very poor infrastructure.
I am in the market for a new electric car. What do I want for a review? How do I sit in the car? How is the noiz in the car especially on long drives? What is the warranty and service of the brand? here Kia has a 7-year warranty and Toyota even has a 10-year warranty. I don't know how the car endures in the long run so a warranty gives some better feelings. Toyota gives an interval maintenance cost estimate. How do they compare? And don't forget what is the long-term experience from an electric brand. I like to see that in a graphic. Thanks and greetings from the Netherlands.
Tesla model y killer is useless to chase. They should be chasing RAV4 and CRV. Used for short trips to schools and shops almost exclusively. Could be a gateway EV for new buyers and then they'd upgrade to something nicer/more capable later in their buying cycle. Camry/accord too.
kia are good at not reading the market well. Now, on the otherhand, if Kia priced standard version at 40 or 45k and long range at 57k i think they'd be on to a winner. They also need to direly re-design the vehicle, not just for better range but so it doesn't look UGLY. I know the g6 looks a bit funky compared to say sealion 7 or what have you but compared to the ev5 it looks a lot better.
There is enough power to move you quickly into a gap. It's the torque higher up that you would struggle with. Let's face it, you should not be jumping into a gap at 100km/hr.

Kia quoting 38min for 10%-80% DC charge thats quick enough for me to have a hamburger and coffee then get going again on the rare occasions that I need to charge away from home.
Outer rim diameter should stay the same so basically the difference should lie in the weight difference of the rim, meaning less power to get the wheel rotating. I suspect the difference at constant speed is minimal but for city driving makes a larger difference.
Smaller rims can result in less stirring of the air depending somewhat of the design, however that alone is unlikely to result in anywhere near a 10% gain. If the overall wheel, i.e. tire, diameter is an inch smaller that will result in a slight aerodynamic improvement, mostly due to lowering the vehicle, which also is not likely to get anywhere near a 10% efficiency gain unless you drive way above the speed limit. But, if the tire diameter is smaller and the speedometer/odometer is not recalibrated you will likely drive slower hence more efficiently due to the speedometer being off and the car will miscalculate the efficiency due to the odometer being off. Those three factors (slight aero, slower, lower actual distances) probably could get you to a perceived 10% efficiency improvement. The real efficiency improve will be dominated by driving slower rather than the slight aero improvement.
Here in the U.S., the Chinese cars are unavailable and Musk does all he can to help candidates that want to make climate change worse, so there might well be a good market for this. We need a good car not made in China or Tesla.
Looks fantastic but until it comes with its own charging network, totally plug and play then its not going to fly. Here in the UK there are lots of Tesla chargers, you are never too far from a whole row of the things and they are all plug and charge. You can try to charge at other places it you can figure out how they work, we spent a very frustrating 15 - 30 minutes trying to get juice out of a BP Pulse charger, it's just so difficult, lady next to us just gave up. I guess all the rest are just as bad, you need an RFID card or an App with credit on the App or a registered debit card and they still nip you for an up front £30 !. Just not worth the hassle, may as well just buy a Tesla!
Who hasn’t got a registered debit card? New chargers have to have contactless now. So what about the holding deposit you’ll get it back and lots of petrol stations do that as well. It’s not completely seamless but the biggest issue is the extortionate prices for many public chargers. Then again the UK isn’t a very big country and most EV drivers including me don’t road trip often and don’t have to rely on public charging very often.
@@markbennett6658 I thought they had to be contactless but it seems the BP Pulse chargers at Monks Cross York are App only. I wouldn't know about petrol stations or how they work as we've been EV since 2014. @@stevenbarrett7648 yes we mostly home charge but occasionally go on longer trips requiring use of public chargers. The Electroverse app and RFID card is useful to have. They have multiple charging partners & if you are an Octopus customer for your utilities you can not only get discounts at certain locations but can also initiate charging directly from the app and the fee is directly applied and itemised on your energy bill. In conjunction with Zapmap you can find most charging locations. Maybe the BP Pulse charger at your location is an older charger? The contactless thing has only become a mandatory for new installs recently I believe.

What's the price and charging speed of the new KIA EV6 ? What about V2L?
Tesla can't affect Kia sales cuz Kia sells various cars. But what will happen when this cool boxy ev affect Tesla?
Cool car but 10k overpriced. What a shame. Hopefully they’ll reduce price when sales disappoint
With Kia, the lease rates are really outstanding.
kia are good at not reading the market well.
Unfortunately it’s using a different battery structure than the ev9 and ev3
How about checking out the new VW ID7 ?
I am not sure how EV5 seems “smaller” than a model Y. I am driving one, and I can tell you its a bit more roomy. I looked closely at both.
If you change the wheel size that does that affect speedo accuracy??
Yup - and the distance travelled. Hence it appears to go 10% further. Do you think the manufacturers are that dumb?
There is enough power to move you quickly into a gap. It's the torque higher up that you would struggle with. Let's face it, you should not be jumping into a gap at 100km/hr.
Hello electric Viking I got a question new giga press 2025 coming out next year can they come out with the same thing when different sizes for the other factories soda has the same technology but different sizes or just one kind of giga press
The EV3 seems better in most aspects aside from space
Great points.
The Charge network cannot charge at 500KW
Yet!😢
In the states all the kias can easily exceed their epa range.
“It’s not a car for road trips” yeah, been sayings that for years about EV’s
Tesla s are fantastic on road trips.
mate you don't need to do 700km in one fell swoop and without a co-driver i doubt you'd mentally be able to do it without putting your own life at risk.
It didn't stop me from going Melb-Cairns-Melb (7500km) in a Standard Range Tesla Model Y (rwd). The people claiming there is still range anxiety are full of shit.
@@greghudson9717 they're not full of shit, they just don't understand. Virtually every EV owner used to drive an ICE so they have a balanced view based on experience. EV critics mostly have never even sat in one so they can only form their opinions on what they read. That's where the shit comes in.
@@robanzzz5124 i have driven 800 miles or 1200 km in a day no problem. My sister has driven 1700 km in 2 days in her Tesla Y.
The new Tesla3 can go 500 km between charges no problem my car is 6 years old and can go 400 km between charges at 80 mph.
How can you know, Juniper will come in January?
He comes across as a Tesla salesman 😁
@@hardi.howdy.983 If that's the case, why didn't he buy a Tesla a few weeks ago instead of the G6?
When was the next Model Y announced as coming out in Jan? Or is that when it is actually being announced?
It wasn't, people are just guessing.
Why this will sell over Model Y and Xpeng - Form factor
People love boxy SUV's
They need to price KiA EV5 AWD 88kWh just about the price of Model Y LR AWD ,not higher .
I agree. It’s nowhere near being close to a model Y. Especially when the new juniper comes out in January / February next year.
They'll sell 1000 per month anyway. Kia is a brand people know and like.
Why is Australia price double the price in china it’s a joke when price of model y in china and Australia are close to parity
Australia price for KIA supports the dealership network.😊
Kia are expensive in Australia, poor value compared to US prices also.
Kia quoting 38min for 10%-80% DC charge thats quick enough for me to have a hamburger and coffee then get going again on the rare occasions that I need to charge away from home.
10% more range if wheels are 1 inch smaller? Why, I wonder? Is it because larger wheels are heavier? 🤔
Outer rim diameter should stay the same so basically the difference should lie in the weight difference of the rim, meaning less power to get the wheel rotating. I suspect the difference at constant speed is minimal but for city driving makes a larger difference.
Rolling resistance. The narrower the tire, the less energy it consumes
you realy ask that? come on m8 google it then
Smaller rims can result in less stirring of the air depending somewhat of the design, however that alone is unlikely to result in anywhere near a 10% gain.
The real efficiency improve will be dominated by driving slower rather than the slight aero improvement.
cravarc • FedorL is right here.
Rolling resistance is the main reason.
The other reasons are secondary and minimal.
And the G6 may ve twice or 3 times more dirable and qualit
What has VW, Rivian and Xpeng in common? Three makers that are working together towards bankruptcy?
Here in the U.S., the Chinese cars are unavailable and Musk does all he can to help candidates that want to make climate change worse, so there might well be a good market for this. We need a good car not made in China or Tesla.
Really bad efficiency on the EV5, the korean made I5 and EV6 who are heavier have better range and efficiencies despite having lower battery capacity.
I honestly think the Sea Lion 7 could potentially be the Model Y killer. Especially with the new model likely to have no indicator stalks etc.
NIO here hold my beer. lets swap the battery in 5 mins.
You call $56,000 cheap come on!
But it will sell well because it’s a lfp batt and it’s a non Tesla/Elon enthusiast
I guess you could figure out which RFID cards to carry and Apps to have on your mobile phone but we prefer charging at home or use the myriad of Tesla chargers, we want to plug in when we stop not faff about with cards and Apps or stop to fill up one of those legacy SBB's (suck, bang, blow) cars, no thank you !
Kia's come with a years ionity membership plus can use Tesla's public charging sites as well as any other sites. Kia's rfid payment solution comes with the car that can be used at many charge operators with varying discounts.
With Tesla opening up their networks, reflecting charging market maturity, it doesn't matter if a network is automaker related or not.
EV5 has LFP battery
Your in California mate, talking about G6 is not relevant
Looks better than the god damn hideous Tesla but 😂
AUD USD?
Got my S Plaid 2024 on friday. Think the KIA can take me? 😂
What are my thoughts? I wouldn't give 2 cent for your thoughts, im just here for the entertainment.
This review feels very bias. Also the boxy shape is what I love about it!
Top trumps car eeview channel. Cars can't be reviewed by spreadsheets and tick lists alone. You actually have to drive them on real roads
A Model Y killer? Who does it serve to set up the context this way?
Game over for Tesla!
Here’s a tour of Hond’s EV tech, surpassing Tesla’s by a county mile: ruclips.net/video/7AgbkA3py84/видео.htmlsi=bIGYCZElZmx-P7W_
Since you kicked me out your FB group for pointing out the issues with the recent Tesla event, particularly the robotaxi wheels being spray painted gold, I am out of here too. Tesla can do no wrong in your eyes. I am not sure why you are so strongly biased in favor of Telsa?
Regular viewer moving on.
No way the MAGA Y got anywhere close to 455km of range. My old RWD only ever charged to max 435 from, and after a year to max 420.
Blah, blah, blah. A lot of people will want the EV 5 for the stying. It’s a boxy design and the Y isn’t. It you can afford the long range AWD you ‘ve got a cool looking car with good range and horsepower. And some knobs and buttons. If you like the Y then great, but otherwise a lot of people will be willing to pay more for the car they want. Different strokes for different folks..
Nothing is a Model Y killer. They don't have FSD and they don't have the full Supercharging network.
Charging network? Those are for poor people who doesnt have a home
Disappointed. Again. After the wait. Cost $10000 in China. Tesla costs $14000 in China. Yet same price in Australia. We getting ripped again. The business model seems to be, let's just under cut Tesla when it should be, let's make these affordable. $56000 is not cheap.
You can wait for the Leapmotor supposedly starting under 45k
Who is going to buy a dated and boring looking Model Y when there are more desirable cars like Sam's Xpeng and Zeeker etc? 🤔
I am. You can't buy those car in the United States. I'm going to buy the robo Taxi.
Plenty will still buy it, they have sold well upto now for a reason. If your reasoning was valid Toyota wouldn't sell a car, their entire range is dated and boring.
@hardi.howdy.983 Tesla vehicle have stood the test of time. The software and charging network will still run while other vehicle will have a lot of problem. Just because someone just made a electric vehicle doesn't mean it's the same reliability or quality.
Lexis nexis, also not as good looking as ev3.
Only a Tesla shareholder would put out such crap about KIA.

How much do u get from Tesla?
koreans think their cars have replaced japanese brands and be able to cash in the names.... but little they know their chinese counterparts are making better and cheaper EVs than them
Nope it is not, it’s much better car. Even Xpeng G6 it’s more car for money than Tesla model Y. But when arrive new model Y Juniper, then we will see about that….
Why is everyone going juniper this juniper that and no one talks about the long range non juniper model?

It looks just as ugly as every other similar sized SUV type on the road. A big square box with wheels.
stop mentioning Xpeng. every single video.. argh. not gonna get a car with Xpeng written on its a$$.
I'm convinced your channel hates anything that is non tesla.

Not really.

SLA can't affect Kia sales cuz Kia sells various cars. But what will happen when this cool boxy ev affect a SLA?
All the Chinese brands loose hysterical amounts of money when you sell them used after a few years. At least in Europe. I would recommend never buying a Chinese car. Stick with Kia, Tesla and the old manufacturers.
