He wasn’t this violent in the anime.
For scenarios like these, I feel like the anime is the best source of how big these towns and cities can be, especially given the programming limitations he mentioned at the beginning. Also, it's been a somewhat popular theory that the tiny depictions of the towns in the games are because we are seeing them through the narrow world view of the player character, a child pokemon trainer. They would probably only perceive the more important locations and buildings for them: gyms for league badges, pokemon centers for healing, poke marts for buying health items and pokeballs. Plus a few other places for important items and npc info that is purely on the game side. Would also explain why, up until like gen 5, we never saw actual roads in these regions. Like, where did your moving van come from in gen 3? And how do any of these npcs travel to other locations without huffing it through the woods on foot for several days?
I'm sure there plenty of holes in this, but hey, it's just a theory.
Very true in the anime Cinnabar Island is incredibly huge despite looking small in the games
Then there's Unova Trainers who are teenagers and live near Pokemon's NYC.

I’ve seen you on basically every video that I have watched.
How. WHY.
@@robo_ghost8760 people can actually have common interests! WOW, HOW?
You again you even watch pokemon
For pacifidlog its worth noting that raft cities actually exist in real life and although you need to carefully prep for them ocean storms are not a major problem as there are plenty of countermeasures in place including ones that would not be visible to the player in the games which can be assumed to exist
Also to address his resource concern, it seems to be like maybe 5 miles from a major port (Slateport), so outside of really massive storms getting supplies there wouldn't be particularly difficult. Also another comment mentioned something I forgot, Sky Pillar is right next door, which houses Rayquaza, meaning Pacifilog probably only ever gets storms when both Rayquaza leaves the tower, and there happens to a storm on the way, so honestly they probably don't really have inclement weather, ever.
Seeing as the postgame ferry ship can go all the way from Slateport to Lilycove and back again, supplying Pacifidlog probably isn't too challenging for Slateport. I imagine these two settlements having some strong connections.
I've been to a raft city in Peru, and it's a hard pass from me.

My dude if you watch the Pokemon anime even people who are not trainers tend to have at least one Pokemon so you could be an accountant with a Pidgeot or Talonflame or any other big bird type Pokemon
I'm curious what your thoughts are on towns from Scarlet and Violet. My vote on the worst town there (assuming the "Ice gym city" doesn't qualify since it's literally only a pokemon stand, gym, and one battle court) would have to be the Ghost type gym. Aside from the obvious "It's cold" and "it's up a mountain making supply routes questionable" arguments, the gym leader is a renown DJ that requires an opening act and a pre- and post- battle set every time a gym challenger challenges them. What if you don't want that EVERY NIGHT? Are you going to say something to them and either get humiliated in a rap battle or have your pokemon beaten up by a gym leader? On top of all that, those snow-covered peaks tower immediately over the town, and nobody is concerned about an avalanche (maybe, I don't know... a SOND INDUCED AVALANCHE?!)
I find your assessment of Montenevera quite on point. I may not know much about the dangers of avalanches, but having a somewhat LOUD sound-related gym up in the snowy mountains does seem a bit... questionable. Also, I'm not quite sure on the accessibility, as every time I've visited it has been climbing randomly over the snowy hills or flying to the nearest Pokestop, so I'm not sure if there's a walkable route you can use. There probably is something, though.
Also, while not nearly as bad, but I'd rather not live in Cascarrafa either. It may be a nice and rather blooming city, but the lowest part gets buffeted by sandstorms from the neighbouring Asado desert. Which does not seem pleasant.
@@SKuusk95 There is one long, snow covered path switch-backing up the mountain past many (to the average civilian) high leveled Pokémon. Concerns about accessibility are rather on point.
Fair point on Cascarrafa, but if Phoenix can make it work, I'm not surprised they can too. It's more "Irritating" bad than "potentially a hazard to life and wellbeing" bad.
You right
Most cities are pretty chill in Paldea
Montenevra is cold, hard to access, all those things mentioned
The psychic city might be hard to access from one side but the other side should be fine
Zapacito is kind of in the middle of nowhere but that isn’t inherently awful
Paldea has for the most part normal cities
You all make a good point but I wouldn’t like to live (near the giant glowing screens and battle stadium) in Levincia because of the glowing posters, as mentioned previously
Edit: They don’t seem to turn off, and I wouldn’t like to be randomly selected as Mr. Walks-About like Clavell did.
If I got a house away from all the chaos the Iono makes, I’d for sure live there

They actually did something interesting for Sword and Shield. Chairman Rose is the head villain and most of the rest of the league representatives have to follow his command. Even Leon, the champion before the player, is given a lot of trouble for delaying or outright saying no to obeying corrupt orders. It was an interesting change from the typical evil team. But that does mean I'd be skeptical about living ANYWHERE in Galar.
I'm personally very glad that Geeta from Scarlet and Violet is not another corrupt executive repeat, because I thought Rose was a clunky and badly written villain. Pokémon needs to drop this twist villain rubbish because that bollocks doesn't work without good storytelling. It only works in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon.

You know it never occured to me that Po Town was forcibly taken over. I assumed that it was abandoned for whatever reason and then Team Skull took it over, denying it from its new legal owner. But I think offical lore allows either version
The Alola Region, Po Town, Team Skull.... Seems like Gamefreak really did their research. That's sounds alot like Waianae XD
@@thegreatbeavers I assume you mean Pu’uhonua o Waianae. That was the only thing about Waianae that resembles Po Town. And yeah, Po Town being a homeless encampment making the use of abandoned buildings makes sense. It also adds more depth to Team Skull's whole "we're only pretending to be evil" thing and would be consistent with Plumeria's characterization in Masters. It's just a mess because Team Skull aren't going to be that competent of community organizers. Also while Po comes from Hawaiian for darkness and Pu'uhonua means refugee, their first syllables are very similar.
I think Team Skull might *be* the locals.
@@SixArmedSweater That would also be consistent with Hawaii. Buying a house there as a local is very hard, as most property is owned by people from out of state as their second vacation home or as companies running another tourist geared business. A resort goes up instead of a neighborhood. A hotel goes up instead of an apartment building. So a bunch of locals pretending to be tough without the logistical knowledge to do a well run off the grid community taking over a failed resort fits.
Po town is literally living at Rio de janeiro in brazil,i dont live in there i live in like Vilhena rondonia(if you never heard of it thats ok pretty much the only thing this town is known for is probably being a footnote in a book) and its so different no cap
To be fair if you don't want to worry about the ladder problems in fortree city, you can always catch a pokemon nearby to help you cary groceries or keep away other pokemon.
I think having a tropius would help a lot since you can find them in the nearby route and they can also just fly you up the treehouse platforms and carry your stuff for you. Plus with their long necks, they would make a great lookout for any danger.
Or a spinarak/ariados, or a wingull/pelipper. Wingull are everywhere, it wouldn't exactly be hard to get a giant pelican to help carry your stuff.
Hell, I'm pretty sure you can get Slakoth/Vigoroth in the nearby routes

I was literally gasping for 5 minutes when he said this.
i lived in dallas as a child. before that, i lived in chicago (and later moved back to 🥶)
back in chicago, my community was fairly religious (jewish). in religious jewish day schools, weather meant nothing and they'd make you tredge through the snow because we're _that_ obsessed with learning. high school was worse. if you had an english paper to turn in or a presentation for one of your judaic classes, it didn't matter if the roads were closed. secular classes would _sometimes_ get cancelled, but that was usually due to the teachers not being jewish and the head rabbis felt it unfair to make them go through the same level of torture. 🤣
anyway, it turned out that dallas was very different. in 3rd grade, we got just over an inch and a half of snow one day and they closed the school. i think it might have been the first time i remember even having a snow day. people were scrambling to buy firewood before the roads closed and i s2g it was only like 30 degrees fahrenheit.

There are pretty much only two competent people in the whole organisation, so I can’t imagine them being able to take over an entire populated town without the intervention of the police.
You have a point, but it's also specifically stated that the police do not care what happens there. Nanu tells you outright that if you die, you die, and he's not going in for your body. Of course, we know Team Skull is pretty harmless, but we play as immigrants from Kanto, an arguably more dangerous region. Our trainer is never afraid of them.

@@AustinSPTD1996 and is bigger than most of said countries.
As a person who has lived in Texas and in a tropical country, I can say that the heat in Texas during summer is a more extreme, but it does get colder during the winter. In the tropical country I live in now, heat doesn't get as extreme as it does in Texas during the summer, but instead it lasts pretty much all year long. The only difference is that half of the year it rains almost all the time, and half of the year it doesn't.
That being said, while I'm used to living in hot places, I really would love to be somewhere cold for a change. While I was in Texas winter was actually my favorite time of the year because it was colder.

Also, about Fortree City, the wooden bridges don’t have any handrails, so you’re literally one windy day away from falling to your death. Furthermore, if lightning strikes one of the trees (and that’s a very likely possibility given their size and how much it rains there), that’s bad enough but now the whole city has a chance of being destroyed in a wildfire.
How to get your groceries up a ladder? Use a backpack. Like the ones that can fit 99 potions and a bike in them.
If you would live in a village that is just treehouses or floating on water you would get used to it. You're comparing it to your lifestyle, but those aren't bad places to live in. Especially in the Pokémon world.
The storm argument is apparently not a problem since the village exists and people live there. The rafts are probably secured underneath.
Snowpoint City must be in its winter state because there are trees growing which can't happen in a tundra biome. It's probably a Taiga biome. So no eternal ice. The same goes for Snowbell city and Freezington. It's not snowing forever.
In case of cities with a undesirable state you yourself can help improve it. You expect others to do it but you won't do anything yourself?
And thank you for coming to my TED talk
It's not that serious bro
I was born and raised in Khabarovsk, Russia, which is like under a thousand miles north from Hokkaido island which Sinnoh is based on. Summer is hot and sunny here, somewhat similar to the state of Oregon. I can confirm there's nothing crazy about the climate there. Hokkaido is probably warmer and winters on the islands are generally much less harsh because of the ocean's huge heat capacity (hope you understood)

11:16 This is actually one of the few times I think the anime had a better anime equivalent to the games. The anime made Ever Grande City an actual city, with buildings and people actually living there.
It baffles me to this day that ORAS didn't give the city a complete makeover( A.k.a. an actual city) like they did with Mauville City. It would be understandable if the reason Ever Grande City was underdeveloped then originally planned due to the GBA's limited power at the time. But no, it was just like that all along!
Why did they even name it if it was just an extension of Route 128?!?!?!?!

Fortree city must be the shiny bug type hunter paradise
Michael in Fortree: Do you mean to tell me that Nincada just crawl into your house at night?!
Fortree residents: No, no, no… they live underground. Spinarak, though …
I’d imagine Cascoon being a real pain to deal with. Wurmple seem innocent enough, but Cascoon and Dustox come with a vengeance.
Id love to wake up to one. Maybe not necessarily on my face, but Id still love it.
Yeah, team skull may not be the biggest, flashiest or most threatening villains you come across in the games, but they have arguably made more progress than most of the other teams by completely taking over Po town.
A feat that’s arguably only equaled by team yell with Spikemuth, and only really surpassed long term by Team Rocket / Rainbow Rocket. Mainly because by the time you show up and give them what for in the generation one games, they’ve already established themselves as ma massive organised crime syndicate, that had enough going for it that they keep coming back after each consecutive smack down they get. (Yes they basically have nostalgia and plot armour on their side, but that’s besides the point)
Moral of the story: MandJ likes his sunlight
HAIL NO!!!
I live up in ohio. I prefer a nice 50-60 degree weather. Sun i don't like, snow i don't like or rain. I'd rather it be cloudy
Mikey, you were wrong about not being able to fit in with the old people in freezington. most men grow bald as they get older, so you can discuss that similarity
I would LOVE to live in Snowpoint City, or Snowbelle City. I’m not well built for heat and I burn easily without sunscreen so I enjoy cold weather, shaded areas, and moonlight.
Same here and that I also love ice types.
It'd be annoying to sleep tho unless you have a VERY warm blanket
As a... Massachusan? I feel you. I love cold weather.
Snowbelle seems much more reasonable. It actually has pathways. Snowpoint literally has you trudging through snow that comes up to your chest at times. Not to mention it’s in the mountains and practically isolated.
I like living in Sioux Falls because it has what I call natural weather changes, since all 4 seasons are in a nice cycle. When I went to Disney World in Orlando with my family, we went in the worst possible time: June, where temperatures went up to 90 degrees Fahrenheit. And while we were down there, my sister got heat exhaustion, and then me, my sister, and my mom got sunburnt. So we decided that if we go down there again, it'll be during winter. But lemme say, I'm used to natural season progression, so I would want to remain in Sioux Falls
The Pearl Settlement in the Hisui region (the predecessor of Snowpoint City) doesn't seems that bad for me.....they at least seems to have several hot springs that would help to make the snow and cold a bit bearable 🙂
At the time of Hisui, I'd say that every place except Jubilife Village would be undesirable to live in. The whole region is basically still untamed.

You do realize that most of your food supply concerns would be resolved by the fact that ALL Pokemon Centers effectively have teleporters. If I can store a berry all the way in "Oldale Town" Center's PC and then withdraw it from "Mossdeep City" Center's PC, I'm pretty sure that officials could have supplies transported the same way.
Okay, but nearly all of the disasters that he worries about have a significant chance of causing a blackout. The PCs wouldn't work without electricity, so in the event of a crisis, that option likely wouldn't be available.
And yet they haven't figured out that attaching mail to a trade pokemon is ridiculously inefficient.
Remember when the PCs throughout the Sevii Islands weren't connected to those of Kanto? I wouldn't become _too_ dependent on this technology if you ask me, it's by no means perfect and flawless.
