The 2021 Hyundai i30 N is more powerful, even grippier and slightly better looking in our eyes. The updated i30 N is also now available with an automatic, with the i30 N DCT using a new eight-speed wet clutch dual-clutch auto gearbox sitting alongside the existing six-speed manual.
The i30 N DCT is faster than the manual and it turns out the very long development time for the i30 N auto has produced a really good hot hatch in its own right. But is this the best small performance car with an auto? Let’s find out!
Rivals to the i30 N DCT include the Volkswagen Golf GTI Mk 8, the Ford Focus ST and the Renault Megane RS.

Correction: I said i30 N has adaptive cruise control. Unfortunately this was an error in the moment. Sorry to disappoint anyone - the i30 N has active lane tracing but only manual cruise control. That said, in my books, that’s actually the way I like it. But maybe I’m a weirdo! -Tom

Thanks for the correction. I think stop and go and distance keeping with the car in front is the best part. I can't believe they skimped on it with this car when it's part of the lower i30 range.

I recently purchased it, traded in a civic sport which had acc, didnt checked the spac sheet because I havnt thought its not included with the lane keepeng assistant etc. Now I love them car and uaing it for a few more months, just the adaptive cruise control is a must and I will sell it just because of that!!!

If I wanted another high powered FWD then the i30N would be on my short list although I prefer the fastback styling and if I'm honest to myself, the Kona N over the i30N. Can't stand the look of the sedan so not interested in that when it arrives. Not really interested in track work, been twice in the last 15 years, so would prefer AWD for better traction for a variety of weather and road conditions. The pops and crackles of the exhaust are a two edged sword for me, good if in the mood but otherwise juvenile and unsophisticated.
My current drive is a stage 2+ tuned/modded mk5 GTI with DSG that I have owned since new so a Golf R would be nice but looking like it might not be value if the recent mk8 price rises applies to the R. I really like the Cupra Formentor, over the T-ROC R/ Tiguan R (when they arrive) and the SQ2 is also appealing if it could be had at a decent drive away price.
However now is not a good time to buy plus some really interesting cars are due to arrive over the next year or so. Will also need to seriously consider how EVs/hybrids will affect the market and future resale values.
Edit DCT/DSG is far more appealing to me than manual, but that's just my preference, happy the manual exists for those who want to persist with them.

Even though I’m a year late on this review I would definitely consider buying this when I’m on my full license,I would take this over the Gti and R yeah they are 2 great cars with a lot of aftermarket support and the R being a few or so seconds quicker to 100 don’t get me wrong the i30n is still a quick car. I just want to go with something different I love the way the front lights look and the front grill it gives it an aggressive look that I like, yeah it may have some cons but it doesn’t bother me more importantly,it looks like fun car to drive it has nice note to it thanks to the new exhaust system that Hyundai developed. It’s also good how they added an auto transmission for people who prefer the ease of an auto or they can’t drive manual and have to stick to auto for reasons, don’t get me wrong manuals are great fun changing gears, upshifting down shifting and it’s also a great experience.
