  • The Golf GTI and Honda Civic Type R rival has been given a hefty update for 2021, but that comes at a price. Is it worth the extra cash or should you buy a cheaper used example?
    Here are the key updates over the old i30 N: the new model comes with a revised suspension system that aims to improve the car’s ride quality, as well as a small power hike that puts the new model at 280hp. It’s now also available with a DCT, which not only brings faster gear shifts but brings Hyundai’s awkwardly-named N Grin mode, giving you a 20-second power boost when activated. The original i30 N was one of the best driving hot hatches on sale, so do the updates on the new model warrant forking out nearly £34,000?

    Hi everyone! Just wanted to apologise for the audio issues in this review. The shoot was a bit of a nightmare with two mics failing at once, so we had to switch over to our ‘last resort’ mic. I really wanted to share the video with you all as the i30 N is mega, but apologies for the audio issues throughout the vid.

      Please remove the background music. Very irritating and totally pointless.

    You also didn't mention the price point between the Hyundai and its rivals, the i30N is a fair amount cheaper than the rest, and it comes fully loaded as standard.

    both driven digital and analog dials, would choose analog any day of the week

    I totaly disagre when it comes to digital vs analogue dials why should you look like everybody else? Why not stand out? Digital dash becomes very fast outdated and looks cheap after a couple of years. It does not for me has the same looks/feeling and when you change driving mode graphic mumbo jumbo (e.g. i20 N), often not full length of the pointers and graphics that change colours above and under the pointer etc. I like the mix of old and new instrumentation in this car. This is one of the main reasons l’m thinking of bying this car.

    Interesting review. I have my order in for the exact spec that you test in this video. Performance blue, 6 sp manual, no sunroof, performance seats. Great to see my order 'live'. Looking forward to it.
    NZ Hyundai have an ETA of March 2022, approx 5 months from my order. The wait is killing me, THEN have to run it in....
    Loving how well these are comparing to the European competition. Pretty much validating my research and decision making.
    BTW, I think the analogue dials suit the 'old school' feel of this platform, with the bland but functional interior. Think it is a plus that instruments are not digital on the Series 2. Each to their own. I totally understand someone wanting the new toys.
    Save the digital instrumentation for the next model/s to catch up to the i20N and KonaN etc and the EV platforms.

      I’m looking to order exactly the same in NZ. Is yours on schedule. I’ve been told 6 months from order

      @@trailbunny2309 Hey, Yes - was basically on schedule. I picked mine up last week (early April)! What an amazing car. Really happy with the color and the 6sp manual. DCT is awesome, I just love the extra engagement and more 'chill' experience of the manual. I would think 6 months is probably the minimum. Hyundai NZ were great and I am sure looking to place the car in front of you ASAP. Their hands are as tied as ours as far as stock and order delivery. They are already talking further delays due to new chip shortages.
      If you order, prepare for a bit of a wait for sure.

      @@silo_fx3182 just ordered mine 😊 thanks for your reply’s. Can I ask u one more question. Do you know if yours has the GPF filter on exhaust. I know in Europe due to euro 6 emissions they do. But not sure on our side of the world. As they can dampen the exhaust sound a bit.

      @@trailbunny2309NZ gets the Aussie spec if that helps? I don't know exactly. Sounds are good as is so you shouldn't be disappointed. Personally I would not want any louder. Look forward to your car! I love every trip in mine. Amazing job Hyundai.

    Nice review of a beautiful car . it would have been my choice if imported to France but unfortunatelly it is not . So i bought a I20N which is nice too.

    It’s not comparison to a Golf GTI, it’s faster, more comfortable, comes with more kit as standard and is generally a much better car. Also, digital cockpits are great when they work, if it goes down you lose everything and they are thousands to replace. The Focus ST cockpit is £5k to replace! Analogue is king in a hot hatch, especially when the infotainment is as good as the i30N’s. This is just my opinion as I own a FL DCT but I’ve owned all the rivals, this is the best by far.

    Why is a digital dash deemed as better than an analogue? Digital dashs age really badly very quickly.

    Owning a pre facelift and to upgrade to a facelift isnt worth it imo. Nearly 10k to do so. The only thing that the facelift has that is of interest is an amazing re designed turbo that i can bolt on mine for 2k and saving myself 8k...

    I wonder if with Michelin ps4s the torque steer will be better

    • @richardgp5691
      @richardgp5691 2 года назад

      I have ps4s on my pre facelift model. Had them fitted to OZ Racing Hyper lite GTs and handling is much improved. Don't rate the P Zeros as they have to be very warm to get the most out of them, which for my daily driving just didn't happen. To answer your question, torque steer is minimal. The lighter wheels and ps4s are night/day compared to standard, highly recommend for anyone with the older model.

    • @dw214
      @dw214 2 года назад +1

      Highly recommend the PS4S to anyone driving a performance sports car in general.
      Also works well on track days , isn't as good as the PS4 in the wet but more then makes up for it in the dry.
      They are an exceptional Tyre all round and only a small step down from Cup 2's , but a fair amount cheaper as well.
      Best non semi-slick summer Tyre that money can buy today.
