The DEA Repossessed one of our Supercars!

  • One of the supercars we sold in our dealership, NG Supercars, was apparently sold to someone who was arrested for selling drugs. The DEA contacted us and sent us a subpoena. The later confiscated his supercar! It was quite a surprise for us to say the least. Not only this but he had purchased the car partly in cryptocurrency so the DEA was very interested in that.

    As someone from across the pond, can you explain the whole Montana plates thing? Seems like there’s a lot of really expensive cars such as the hypercar segment, that gets registered on Montana plates.

    • @normalguysupercar
      @normalguysupercar  8 месяцев назад +1

      The short version is by creating a Montana LLC and registering the car in it, you can avoid paying sales taxes and other registration fees because they aren't required in Montana. It's more complicated than this but you get the point

    Physician here. My office, and others, get so many DEA scam calls that we simply hang up on them. Josh’s initial reaction was 100% what my office staff are trained to do. If the DEA REALLY wants something, they’ll do what ultimately happened…a subpoena. That is a hell of a story, boys!

      I'm a physician too and once got a call on my home phone from a guy who left a message saying that my DEA number was being used illegally by someone and they needed to talk with me. I was suspicious about it and called the DEA number instead of the originating number and they told me that they had no such information. Just glad that I was not home when the call was made originally because I might have been caught off guard. I guess it's much harder now to get DEA numbers since hard copy prescriptions are rarely used nowadays.

  • @Jnglfvr

    What did the sales receipt reflect in terms of sales price? The entire amount or only the cash transaction? If the latter then perhaps he was trying to avoid part of the sales tax on the car when he registered it in his state.

    Paper tags aren't what you want if you're questionable on the east coast. My state does not recognize paper tags from other states. We also don't issue paper tags. When you buy a car, you get a real, metal plate from a new car dealer who is in the program. Buying from someone privately, you have them drive to your house, pay them and get the title. They pull their plate off the car. You then insure then register the car and only then will you get a plate.

    • @normalguysupercar
      @normalguysupercar  8 месяцев назад

      Texas currently does not issue new metal tags at the dealerships. They are changing that law however.

      In that case the car would more than likely be returned after the case was close. But if they can’t prove that the car was bought with illegitimately earned money, then there’s nothing to take. Remember that just because the guy deals drugs does that not automatically mean that everything he eats is by selling drugs. Guy probably had some kind of legit business as well. Seems to me that a lot who deal drugs on a semi-large scale does - for this exact reason. They have not confiscated the car either.

    Yeah, the D.E.A. does NOT play around when it comes to illegal Oxycontin OR Oxycodone. Opioid addiction is NO JOKE and should only be taken under the strict supervision of an M.D. with a valid medical license in good standing with your state medical authority. Personally speaking, I'm going in for my 5th surgery in 2 years in the next couple weeks, and even I am very careful when it comes to my prescribed pain meds.

    Amazing how some people think, and will spend an enormous effort to side step the law when having a legitimate career would be less work, I would think. I guess the criminal mind is a strange thing to be stuck with! By-the-way, that's a lot of orange there that gives your room a strong Harley-Davidson look to it. A black Harley sitting to the side would fit right in!

    • @AB-80X
      @AB-80X 8 месяцев назад

      It’s not that simple. While making money on drugs can be super stressful and hard work, it strikes me as being something people get into either because it initially seems easy, for some is easy, and for some provides excitement. I actually had a friend in school who went down that path. He was somewhat successful. He was caught and served eight years. Then he started over with a legitimate business which became very successful. The funny thing is that a lot of these thrillseeking risk takers can actually be quite successful in a legit business venture.
      What I think is often the issue is that, people seem to equate a successful legit business with something unobtainable perhaps due to a lack of imagination or it being overly difficult. But I’m their minds selling drugs is just, well selling drugs. You don’t need to know about finance, insurance, how legitimate transactions work, taxes, investments, investors, stock market, industry development, financial analysis and what not. In the eyes of most you give person A drugs and you get money. However, those who seem to be really successful in the drug trade, also seem to have a grasp on moving money around. So it is indeed a very interesting paradox.

      The cartels are business people. They expect legitimate businesses to do what Dan and Josh did. In their mind this is just what a normal business would do. This is not the same as actively taking the witness stand, or actively reporting (telling) on someone. This was the DEA contacting a legitimate business for some documentation, nothing more. And if that guy is a cartel guy who screwed up like this, chances are that he will be the one stewing in a plastic drum rather than Dan and Josh. Hell, the cartel would probably consider bumping off Dan and Josh much more troublesome and pointless than just leaving them alone.
      While the cartels do seem to be willing to take care of problems and loose ends, Dan and Josh is neither. So I think it is safe to say that they can sleep comfortably with no fear of repercussions.
