    Did you find the reason that it came out? Nut not adjusted tight enough?

      Yes the nut was barely hanging on by a few threads., it came loose

      @GettingItDoneNorthOf7 good catch. In your case probably an off road trailer, but certainly a good thing to check on all trailers. Was it a nylock nut?

    Had this happen to my boat trailer last summer. I store it near our cabin. They move them around to do grounds maintenance with a fork lift with a ball attached. Figure it got yanked out by not assuring it was seated when moving the boat. Easy fix tho.

    Often times it's because the ball isn't seated right. Get it in the fully forward position and it'll latch. A little wd40 would hurt either.
