  • Today we’re welding a adjustable trailer hitch on, this is a common welding repair I do. If your coupler is worn out this is a great way to ensure you never have to weld a new one on. If it wears out just in bolt it and bolt a new one on! This is how I like to install adjustable c channel trailer couplers.

    I'm a shop welder for my 9-5,my side gig is a bit of field welding. always level and square,it's the only constant to rely on-trying to teach a guy at work that,might as well be talking to a doorknob. great video on 'how it's done',mad respect!

    We got a trailer back from my step fathers business that the coupler had been abused. Someone thought hammering on it would help get it on and off. I put some grease on it and presto. It works almost like new again except is a little bit harder from being beaten on. If your having trouble with your coupler please try and grease it before you get the hammer out 😂

    Excellent advice. My father taught me over 35 years ago to tack with 7018 when we were building doors for three 60 stall horse pens. I swear very few were the same width, we had to measure every single one of them. I dunno who built the stables but I'm not talking 3/4" or anything, more like 1"-8" difference in width and half of them had out of plumb walls. That was also one of the jobs that taught me to make saddle cuts with the torch so much so that I could do them with my eyes closed and freehand by the end of that job.
    I'm impressed that tongue was as square as it was from the factory! I'm pretty sure that around here they hire blind people with parkinsons to build trailers. Aside from amusement park rides they have some of the worst welds I've ever seen. They almost always seem to hold though. Except for spring hangers, those usually break pretty quick.
    Excellent job as always. Details like cutting off that lip and even spray painting it black shows you take pride in what you do and give a shit. I gotta go check out your merch.
    Have a great day

    Must have!
    There called switch magnets.
    They help hold your work peace . And because of you I'm starting my on welding repair business. Just don't weld to close to them you get arc force do to the magnet

    Hi Anthony. When cutting with an angle grinder I always hold the angle grinder parallel to me, holding the body of the grinder with my left hand and guiding it with my right hands thumb and forefinger where the handles would screw in and I lean my head to the right so I can look diagonally at the front of the cutting disc. This way should the disc fail you have practically your whole body out of line of the cutting disc and you can see the cut much better because the sparks are not being flung towards you.

Regardless Rockstar, I learned a bit about malleability and why when I do try to stick weld the tacks break when I try to move them because I don't use 7018ish or whatever rod is in the rod oven I bought at an auction🤦‍♂🤦‍♂😂😂 Keep that pedal to the floor and makin hay while the sun is shining!

    You ever try using the level on your phone? I've used it and its pretty accurate, but I wonder how it would compare to an actual device like you used, to compare the accuracy of the phone. In my experience, it is close enough but not good enough for exact precision, but it was a free app.

  • @walter2670

    I know it’s overkill, especially with 2 beads of professional weld on 3 sides. But is there a reason to weld or not weld the bottom other than it’s unnecessary?

    • @MeltinMetalAnthony
      @MeltinMetalAnthony  10 месяцев назад +5

      I did weld the bottom. But there is a large gap in the middle from the c channel. I could triangulate it but not necessary

    Ok. Im doing the same job for myself. I watch the dam video and get to the part i still have questions about and you end the video dammit. 😂😂 when you tighten the coupler channel down does it pinch the coupler tight? The shoulders on the bolts that came with my hitch are to long and prevent it from being tight to the hitch.
