    I've had a 2.0T and a 3.6 and for me it's virtually a toss up as both are great engines. However, I think if I personally had to choose between those 2, I narrowly prefer the 3.6 for 2 reasons. First, I always felt obligated to run 93 octane gas in my 2.0T. I know the manual says you can run 87, but I've seen many say the longevity and performance of a turbo engine will be improved running higher octane gas so that's the way I leaned with it. However, I have no problem running 87 octane in the 3.6 so it saves me a few bucks on gas. Secondly, the 3.6 to me just sounds better. When I was driving my turbo, at times almost sounded like a high powered golf cart or something lol. But when I drive the 3.6, it just sounds like I'd expect an engine to sound. Either way though, no sure you can go too wrong with either one.

      I was in your shoes. My 2021 JLU with Ecodiesel spent 6 months out of two years at the dealership. Constant issues with the engine and constant lack of parts to fix.
      Selling it back to the dealership as a lemon in a week.
      Next time I'll buy only 3.6 V6. It's much more common, so parts should not be such a problem.

  • @BenTheJeepGuy

    As the proud owner of the EcoDiesel, I see a lot of long term viability with the engine. Yes, there are manufacturing flaws that can lead to an early demise in some circumstances, largely in part due to the obnoxious emissions systems that literally choke it to death. But, as soon as Chrysler stops warrantying engines and people turn to the aftermarket for rebuild kits and reman engines, there will be solutions to the flaws and the rebuilt engines will be everything we expect from a Diesel engine! In the forums and Facebook groups there are already companies sourcing bearings and parts for bullet proof rebuilds. Scat is already working on a new crankshaft and connecting rods. I always said, as soon as the Jeep community gets the EcoDiesel, we will see a surge in aftermarket support for the 630T VM Motori 3.0L Diesel. But I love this truck! I love the way I can just lean in maybe just a tad beyond 1/4 throttle and it just pulls! Especially at highway speeds, this thing has all the torque and power for passing, something always left to be desired for Jeeps in my 20 years owning Jeeps. And to get upwards of 30 mpg, it’s incredible! I would let FCA replace this engine 3 times before I lived with the daily disappointment and poor performance of the 3.6L V6 gas engine.

      The diesel added with the Banks I dash and pedal monster is pretty neat. Keep up the expensive maintenance though. Just wish I can remove the EGR. It’s killing the engine. It’s like a Olympic sprinter smoking a big cigar while running.

    • @BenTheJeepGuy
      @BenTheJeepGuy 9 месяцев назад

      @@solaceofryker2021 Banks products definitely make a performance difference but at what cost? Banks is merely fooling factory signals from sensors to the engine computer. A friend used to have a 5.9 Cummins 3rd Gen Ram 2500 with a Banks kit. Worked great until the injectors fried from being pushed beyond their duty cycle. The safest way to improve performance is a true computer tune flashed directly to the engine computer. SOME tuners can shut the EGR off entirely, however this is illegal in the United States due to EPA regulations and violation can result in hefty fines and other unreasonable consequences, but this is the country we live in, proceed at your own risk if you choose to. But, those that do safe tuning of the EcoDiesel and can offer changes that improve the life of the engine (EGR off), can be found in the country to our North. I would say more but the government stooges monitor the internet.

I understand there's a premium and diesels generally are more spendy on maintenance as well, but I have to buy 7 qts of oil whenever I do an oil change for mine and my wife's '04 Durango (5.7l V8), and get 16 (not 8) sparkplugs when the 30k service is due anyways, so it'd be worth it in my thoughts.

      that's what I just got. the eco-diesel. They are pricey. But I'm in it for the long haul. won't be able to get them in 2024. Word is they are discontinued in jeep wranglers. Still get them in Ram Trucks and other makes like Durango's etc. But not in Wranglers. Not enough demand. Demand at present is the 392, and ex. Mine is a 2022 new. Had to search and search to find mine. Drives better than you would ever imagine. And low-end torque and she will jump with the turbo. Very happy with her. She gets great mileage too. If you want an all around the Diesel is the way to go. We get snow here in Va. and my driveway is a 1/4 mile long. Then it's a good ways to get to town. So we have always had jeep wranglers. Mine had #302 miles on her when I drove her off the lot. I suspect i'll have her till they shovel dirt in my face. To me spending the extra to get a Diesel is really the smart way if you plan on keeping her. She really drives like a dream. And I just love the sound she makes idling. I went to the auto part store and told the guy I needed some D.E.F. for my jeep. And he was like for what?? He had no clue Wranglers came in Diesel. That's how rare they are...!!! They are disappearing as we speak.

    I have owned a Rubicon 4xe for 3 months and put over 2000 miles on it with mostly in city driving. I charge at home and at work, and of the 2000 miles only 800 miles are on the gas engine running in hybrid. Most of the gas/hybrid miles are when I have taken it off roading and camping. Also most of the low mileage trade in’s are people that just want the tax credit. I only put gas in it when I take it off roading.

    • @One_Less_Thing
      @One_Less_Thing Год назад +1

      @@RealEstateClub- No issues so far. I follow quite a few 4xe owners, and only a few 2021 owners reported issues. And of that few the most common problem was the fuses were not pressed in hard enough, causing the 4xe to start throwing error codes, and a few were left stranded, till they pressed the fuses in correctly. Also a few users reported failure of a device that heats the coolant to the battery. It is new tech, but that drivetrain had millions of testing miles before its release in the US. Also look at from a reliability perspective. The 2.0T engine (when running) is constantly being assisted by 2 electric motors, which is going to help with the longevity of the gas motor. Also the braking is Hybrid, meaning when you press the brake petal, the 4xe is doing Regen first before engaging the mechanical brakes. Now on the other hand the diesel imo has more warranty issues than the 4xe. All the RUclips’r I follow with Diesels have had issues with check engine lights, limp mode, and emissions component failures.

    In too few words:
    V6 - Most reliable, but inefficient & underpowered in every possible way. Undoubtedly the least fun option but cheap upfront.
    I4T - Only good on gas around town (with questionable reliability) but fun at low speeds. It’s the best mall crawler option.
    EcoDiesel - Best fuel economy real-world by a long shot, however its an expensive upgrade with pricy fuel. Decent reliability with insanely good performance all throughout the power band.
    4xE - Best on paper, but the least consistent in the real world. Struggles to match the I4T on the streets and the Diesel on the freeway. Already the most traded in and least reliable (however that partly due to parts availability). It’s quick 0-60 and can be good on gas in ideal condition… but it’s easily the biggest gamble of the lineup, especially given the price.

    • @RealEstateClub-
      @RealEstateClub- Год назад +1

      Where did you find stats about the 4xe being the most traded in?

    • @TheDiameter
      @TheDiameter Год назад +4

      @@RealEstateClub- TLDR: The 4xe exists new for tax and emissions purposes. It exists used because customers are either unhappy with the performance or wait times for warranty work and dealers STILL make money after accepting the trades at cost.
      I asked 4 different dealers in 2 different states why their lots were full of them (used) when they had hardly any other vehicles period during the height of the covid shortages. They unanimously said that the 4xe was mostly produced and purchased due to tax incentives (for both the manufacture and customer) and they were traded in on a vast short basis for two main reasons. The first was people didn’t get anywhere close to the MPGe that was advertised in most real life driving scenarios, which is very unlike most modern hybrids. Second, whenever they had issues with the powertrains it took over three months in most cases to even get the part to fix the problem (assuming they diagnosed it properly to begin with). The reason for the problems and delays was that it was a new powertrain and not widely manufactured yet. This was compounded by the fact that the manufacturer only got their tax & emissions credits for full units (entire vehicles produced/sold) so there was no incentives to make spare parts. Most production was going to new cars not replacement parts. Due to warranty laws this basically forced the manufacturer to either lemon the car or accept it back as a trade at no loss to the customer. On the surface that might not make sense but with how insane used car prices were it actually MADE PROFIT for the dealers so they were happy to facilitate this process.

    I’ve been considering selling my 5.7 Tundra and downsizing into a 4 door later model JK or JL and I’ve been on the fence for 2 years now. It’s the reliability trade offs for me, and I like to hold onto a vehicle for a long time. From my experience, extensive road tests, and owner/friend feedback, this where I’m at…
    1) 3.6 Pentastar: over 10 million produced, many common issues stemming from inconsistent manufacturing processes and fragile plastic components. Lots of plastic. But, despite the lack of recalls and redesigned equipment (especially effecting the first few years of 3.6 production), the 3.6 is an incredibly smooth, powerful, efficient, and generally reliable power plant given its compact dimensions and weight.
    2) 2.0 T: blast to drive in a 2 door; okay in a 4 door. I didn’t like having to buy premium in the only turbo vehicle I had 20 years ago. It’s just a minor but constant annoyance. Long term reliability is questionable, but I’d be curious.
    3) Eco Diesel: Big expense. Lots of power. Lots of common issues, especially earlier on. Friend had it in a JL Rubicon. Hardly ever drove it because it was too nice and expensive to have it get scratched up on the rugged gravel roads where he lived. Oxymoronic yes. But others had gladly dealt with the costly repairs to have the Wrangler of their dreams that can pull a trailer as well as the best half ton trucks out there.
    4) 4xe: Great when brand new. Great for the city, great for repairs and frustrations at dealerships, and there’s a bunch of them with low miles at lots. The blue tow hooks are cute.
    5) 392: Full beast mode. If you can afford it, go on ahead. Enjoy the juice of the V8 fruit while you can. Not overly unreliable or complicated at all, just crammed into a small vehicle. Add bumpers, a quality suspension upgrade and lots of “overlanding glampwear” and you’re rolling around on a $100k look at me missle of fun.
    If I can get a 4 door JL Rubicon in Purple Rain or Bikini Blue with a 3.6 and a 6 speed manual, I may go for it.

    I was on the fence about getting a 4xe, even have a custom order in (amidst the strike) and I’ve decided against in now. I’ve been weary of switching to hybrid/electric and after watching this video, I think I will have to pass on it.

    My pretty stock 4xe Rubicon only gets like 18.5 mpg if I don’t charge

    The 4xe is terrible. Leased one, returned it way early cause it sucks. It's a scam. So expensive to charge, and worse gas mileage after the battery dies. You will NEVER get thr full claimed 22 miles of electric range either. NEVER.

    [X] Reliability
    [X] Jeeps
    Pick one, you can't have both. I bought an EcoDiesel last year, after 14 months of nothing but issues I got rid of it (fortunately didn't lose too much money). Worst piece of crap vehicle I ever owned, I highly recommend anyone remotely thinking on getting a Diesel Jeep to go look at the Wrangler forums and see the clownshow of issues that vehicle is.
