Sorry you had to give it up. It’s awesome that you had owned one! I hope you get the chance to own another soon! There’s been some really good deals on used ones lately.
I’ve had a love for jeeps after the very first rubicon was made but I’ve never had the opportunity to own one but yes the rubicon 392 is something now on my radar, it’s a wonderful machine and if you just do a few upgrades for off road capabilities it will become the ultimate
Got our 24 392 about 2 months ago, she will be a pavement queen unfortunately. We got firecracker red with the one touch top, we also have a 22 willies that i can say for sure the 392 drives so much better! Thank you for the heads up on low fluids and oil recommendations.
Congratulations on your new 2024! I've heard many people say they are a lot more refined that the previous year's 392s. And good choice of color on the firecracker red! That is actually a color I would have preferred if I had ordered mine. It's awesome that you have both a 392 and a Willy's! Enjoy them both!
The transfer case has a clutch in it that wears out. Some people force 2 wheel drive to prolong it's life with the tazer mini. I can get 18-19 mpg on long cross country trips but I have the 3.73 gears and 35's. No lack of power but I want 37s eventually and think I may be forced to regear.
From my understanding it’s always in 2WD(RWD) until it detects slippage. Then the clutch sends power to the front until the slippage is gone. From what I’ve read, some of these failures are occurring because people try to keep it 4hi Auto when off roading when they should actually be putting it into 4hi Part Time the minute they leave the pavement. I think it’s easy to want to keep it in 4hi auto because the thing has so much torque that it doesn’t seem like it needs to shift it at all and especially since it’s supposed to transfer the power automatically. I’ve done this on a few occasions in some of my videos (beginning of Wet N Wild trail at HF) but I really need to shift into 4hi part time and 4 lo a bit sooner. And 18-19 is fantastic! No doubt the gearing has something to do with that and possibly speed? Where I live, we have very high speed limits on rural highways and interstates and this is not conducive of producing high mpgs. 😂

I had the first 2023 wrangler 392 sold in NYS and I got it in September 2022 - I didn’t understand why I had a 2023 model year in 2022. But either way I love. I paid 72k fully loaded with all options except one - the us rider top. I wish I got it but money talks. I had a great company affiliate discount that I couldn’t pass up.
Wow, great deal! Congrats! And yeah, many times the car manufacturers come out with model years during the fall of the prior model year. Sometimes I’ve seen them available earlier than that/
I like your reviews. I found this review yesterday, the one year review after that and then the Military trailer review. So, now I have subscribed. I don't have a 392 Wrangler. Mine is the EcoDiesel. It is not even a Rubicon but a 2021 JLU Sport. I won't get a 392 even though my first car was a 1968 Plymouth Roadrunner with the 383 HP engine and I loved the way it screamed going down the highway. But in much the same way that you like your 392, I like my 3.0 EcoDiesel. I have less hp but just about as much torque. I love it for off roading. When I want to accelerate on the open road, I can get going quite quickly. Like you said in one of your 2 reviews of your 392, people don't buy a 392 or an EcoDiesel either to save money. You buy it to enjoy and take you places where normal street cars can't. So, keep up the reviews. I will be watching more on your channel to catch up.
Thank you! I had thought long and hard about getting an EcoDiesel Jeep Gladiator a few years ago. I ended up getting a 4xE instead, for a short stint. Loved the torque! My Dad had owned a Roadrunner back in his youth. He'd always talk about it. And there's no doubt that he was my foremost influencer for my love of the automobile. The intermittent Adaptive Cruise Control harmonic rattle is a standard feature. My 4xe does the same thing. I just press on all 4 plastic screws when I hear it, and that seems to help.
I also have a 392 XR. You and I are very similar. Haha I love this Jeep after several failed attempts at other vehicles. I put 37s on and the power gear ratio is perfect. Gas mileage didn’t change but it got better on long highway speeds not going 80 mph. Haha I use amsoil. I became a dealer and if free. Just registered and they’ll send you a membership or spend 500 bucks and get it for free. Way cheaper then 14bucks.
Toyo RT trails seem to be my best tire choice I’ve had and I’ve had a lot. LOL. Clayton sells a replacement spring for 480 bucks. Helps with added weight and stiffness.
That’s good to know! It’s almost as if they had 37s in mind when they designed the 392. I’ve heard good things about Amsoil. Thanks for mentioning the membership. Something to think about.

You don’t need to re-gear to run 37s with your stock earring, my 392 has the 373 gears and I run 39 x 13 1/2 mud terrain‘s and I notice no power loss except off the line but there’s so much horsepower it doesn’t matter and I also tow an off-road teardrop trailer and the set up works awesome. The only thing you need to be very careful with is lifting the 392 I would not recommend anyone go over 3 1/2 inches anything taller will destroy the front driveshaft because the pinion angles do not work on higher lift kits, I went through that problem with Rockcrawler suspension 4 1/2 inch kit would not work, even aftermarket drive shafts would not work too steep of pinion angle thanks for the video
Wow, even aftermarket driveshafts wouldn't work at that height? Good info! I just added a 2.5" lift and 37s and I don't notice any power loss at all. In fact, in some ways, it feels quicker off the line thanks to heavy duty springs adding some stiffness to the ride. There's less body roll and significantly less brake dive. Thanks for chiming in! Great video and nice Jeep! Have you done any videos on how to change your transfer case fluid by chance? I’d like to do the same for my rubicon that also has a clutch system tcase to be safe. Thanks!
@@MotoringAdventures_KE7SAI one last question for you.. many people are under the assumption that the Rubicon full-time tcase is purely a clutch system, even when engaged in true 4WD (4H part time and 4L). My assumption is this: The full time tcase does use a clutch, but also a chain and planetary gear system. the 4H Auto works with a viscus clutch system for normal road use - all wheel drive, however when in 4H part time or 4L it is mechanically locked for off road with whatever the tcases corresponding ratio is. @@kyle6703 I believe you are correct. This is why many people suggest putting it into 4hi Part Time the minute you leave the pavement in order to not pre maturely wear out the clutch system. Many out there believe that the reason some people’s 392 t-cases have failed, is they run them in regular 4hi Auto while doing minor off-road (dirt roads, light two-tracks, etc) and even though it does fine traction wise, it probably puts more strain on the clutches than they were really designed for. The way the t-case should be used: 4hi Auto (pavement), 4hi part time (light off-road, high speed off-road, or any slippery conditions), and 4-Low (Rock crawling or steep inclines/declines).
I wish my gladiator gobi willys had a 392. I would never even consider getting rid of it if it did. I would love to have this but I won't pay the ridiculous price for one. Hoping the used ones come down some in the next few years(although I'm not super hopeful)
A Gladiator 392, with a manual, would have been my ultimate ultimate ride! I hear you about the price. Especially if the new ones keep going up. You might start to see them in the upper $60s before too long.
Thank you for sharing this adventure - I love the idea of a naturally aspirated Jeep with no stupid baggage like ESS. Too bad for the cylinder deactivation. I am debating either this (392 JL) or an Ineos Grenadier (call me crazy but I like it’s simplicity) - thank you again for the information!
Have you looked into the Tazer No Limitz device to get rid of the cylinder deactivation? I bought my Wrangler 392 in 2022 and couldn’t stand when it dropped into 4 cylinder mode. It bugged me so much that I purchased a DiabloSport programmer with an unlocked PCM just to disable it. I like the Taser option more since you don’t need an unlocked PCM, but what’s done is done. Anyway, great video. I totally agree with your pros, but I never did have 2 of the cons (hesitation, adaptive cruise rattle).
I have not looked into that but sounds like a good option. I've actually kind of gotten used to the cylinder deactivation since I published this. Lol! I'm still not sure if it actually helps with mpg at all but just gotten used to it as a quirk of the beast. lol! And thank you! I've since made an update to this video and erased a few of the cons. Sounds like you're enjoying yours!
@@MotoringAdventures_KE7SAI I absolutely love mine! If all the parts arrive this week, I should be installing an AEV lift with 37’s. Fingers crossed that it comes out riding better than stock. Keep the videos coming brother! Your videos are one of the few I enjoy watching.
I think you’ll be impressed by the AEV kit. I have the 3” HD AEV dualsport and it rides and drives great! It no longer bottoms out like the stock XR suspension did. And thank you for the kind words! It means a lot!
I am also thinking about the Bronco Raptor, but the sound from the 392 is so much better. I like the size of the Bronco. I'll never go rock crawling with either, but I will tow nothing more than a camper or bike trailer. how much more clearance do you have in your garage? how tall are you? i'm 6'1" 225 and I had a 2 door Jeep Sahara back in the day and it felt tight
I was once parked next to a Bronco Raptor at a grocery store and the owner of it was there. We chat for a little and as I fired the 392 up, he immediately said "I should have gotten the 392" Lol! He stared long and hard as I pulled away. It had a couple inches of clearance when it was stock height and even now still clears it after the 2.5" lift. Probably has a half inch of clearance but I park in my garage everyday with no problems. I'm 6'1", 215, and I don't really have too much of an issue. Could it be a lot roomier? Sure. And I've had some really large, roomy vehicles in the past. But the lack of room for my height has never been an issue for me. It's way roomier than my 2004 TJ ever was and I loved driving that thing.
@@MotoringAdventures_KE7SAI, thanks for the answers. I had a feeling that if I heard that 392 running next to a six, I would regret buying the Bronco.
I say that but I've never driven a B-Raptor and would probably love one lol! But I am partial to a good sounding V8! I'd say, see if you can test drive both. I was lucky and test drove several 392s before finally pulling the trigger. I hear the 24 is even more refined than my 2021 is.
That says a lot! I loved my 2004 TJ Rubicon. The last of what I call the "true Jeeps". Not that the JK or JL aren't real Jeeps. But the TJ still has that original style and similar size of the originals.
Howdy! I'm in San Antonio. I would love to go but we're going to be in Houston next weekend. :( Sounds like a ton of fun! I would love to hit the trails with some fellow 392s!
Did you have a 4xe? I have a 24 4xe, and with the same torque, (but less HP, only 375), it seems plenty fast enough and 34mpg on average. But beautiful color, same as my 4xe!
I did formerly own a 2021 Rubicon 4xE. It was pretty quick! I just didn’t get the same kind of mpg once adding tires and a lift and taking on long-distance trips.
Hard cornering is probably the only thing this thing can't do well. I have had to adjust the way I drive and gotten to know the limits. I've owned some pretty well-handing cars before and the Jeep's lack of cornering ability is just something I'm willing to give up in order to have this. I'd say if you lean more towards handling and high speed but still want some level of off-roading, something like the TRX or Bronco Raptor might be more suitable.
Yeah that's a tough one! I've found it really hard to find the one vehicle that can fulfill all my needs and desires in a vehicle. There's usually going to be some sort of trade-off in one area or another.
@@MotoringAdventures_KE7SAI I will likely grab a ‘25 Explorer ST with 400 HP and 26 MPG and then build up the funds to finally grab a V12 Lambo and call it a day.
I live in Australia and we didn’t get this jeep, I have to say I believe it’s the best jeep you can get only because of the Hemi engine! We should get V8 on every Jeep from now on including 2 doors . I have a TJ coz I find jeep after 2006 shit but the 392 got me
That Pennzoil ultra is top shelf oil….idk if I’d get cheap oil for a HP Jeep like that. Not worth the risk in case there’s ever a warranty concern with the engine.
Any vehicle can have reliability issues. From owning many different Jeeps and many different vehicle in general, I can say pretty confident that most modern vehicles are pretty equal in terms of reliability. The 392 was no different. Over 45,000 miles and had no issues whatsoever.
What you’re paying for with the 392 being more expensive, is the uniqueness of having the hemi engine in a Jeep Wrangler platform, and all of the engineering that had to be done to make that happen and still be under the factory powertrain warranty. I wouldn’t say it’s any better or less reliable than a standard V6 Wrangler.
Oil ,penzoil never used to be a good option , I use 0 -40 mobil 1 Supercar oil in my 2021: jeep wrangler 392 , I order it through ,NAPA , it is expensive , but it says it's made for American made high performance engines with blowers and turbos ,always had good luck with mobil 1.
Sounds like a very good choice! Normally I use Mobil 1 in all my vehicles. I just decided to follow this one by the book. But I might switch it up down the road sometime.
Funny that a squirrel showed up at the end...my Mojave has been at the dealer in Boerne for 3 months because a squirrel chewed the electrical harness and they can't get the part because it's supposedly back ordered...may have to trade for a 392. Still love my Mojave :).
I would use a vehicle search website such as Autotrader or Car Gurus and search for one either in your area or nationwide, and sort it by price. This will show you the lowest priced ones for the region or distance radius you specify.
For today's prices, it's sad I was an owner, but prices are very expensive. After the warranty ends! You will feel the pain in your bank account. Run as fast as you can! It's not American owned.
@@MotoringAdventures_KE7SAI excellent review! I currently drive a gladiator Rubicon diesel. Thinking of trading for a 392 do you have any regrets getting rid of the Mojave? I also see you had a power wagon and a rebel what’s your top three favorites of all these vehicles?

Good vid. Thanks man!
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
I have a 79 CJ7 AMC 360cid the 304 it came with wore out best Jeep in my opinion next to the TJ
That says a lot! I loved my 2004 TJ Rubicon. The last of what I call the "true Jeeps". Not that the JK or JL aren't real Jeeps. But the TJ still has that original style and similar size of the originals.
What part of Texas are you in? Going to be a meetup next weekend at hidden falls. Will be at least two 392s, including myself.
Howdy! I'm in San Antonio. I would love to go but we're going to be in Houston next weekend. :( Sounds like a ton of fun! I would love to hit the trails with some fellow 392s!
@@MotoringAdventures_KE7SAI I’m actually in Leon springs. Not far away!
5:48 what about when you want to take a hard corner?
Hard cornering is probably the only thing this thing can't do well. I have had to adjust the way I drive and gotten to know the limits. I've owned some pretty well-handing cars before and the Jeep's lack of cornering ability is just something I'm willing to give up in order to have this. I'd say if you lean more towards handling and high speed but still want some level of off-roading, something like the TRX or Bronco Raptor might be more suitable.
@@MotoringAdventures_KE7SAI I’m trying to transition away from a Lambo… so I’ve got some serious FOMO going :-)
Yeah that's a tough one! I've found it really hard to find the one vehicle that can fulfill all my needs and desires in a vehicle. There's usually going to be some sort of trade-off in one area or another.
@@MotoringAdventures_KE7SAI
I will likely grab a ‘25 Explorer ST with 400 HP and 26 MPG and then build up the funds to finally grab a V12 Lambo and call it a day.
@@allthecommonsense That's a cool vehicle for sure!
I live in Australia and we didn’t get this jeep, I have to say I believe it’s the best jeep you can get only because of the Hemi engine! We should get V8 on every Jeep from now on including 2 doors . I have a TJ coz I find jeep after 2006 shit but the 392 got me
I agree! V8 should be standard in every Jeep! Thanks for watching!
That Pennzoil ultra is top shelf oil….idk if I’d get cheap oil for a HP Jeep like that. Not worth the risk in case there’s ever a warranty concern with the engine.
I agree. I don’t really mind paying for it though. Amazon has a decent deal. I just have to list it for something to consider.
I think I saw you today on Gossling. Or not. Very similar Jeep.
I'm located in San Antonio.
Pedal Commander will fix that half second delay
Do you think that engine delay at the roll is due to the cylinder deactivation?
I don’t think so. At idle it usually goes back to 8 cylinders. It has an indicator that supposedly tells you when it’s using it.
I’d pick the 392 over a trx because the 392 has a real axle and lockers
Yeah, it's so unique! It's a thrill to drive, both on-road and off! Thanks for watching!
12 isn't too bad. That's what I get in my 5.7 jgc with 30 inch tires... in city. My 04 tj is worse.
Yeah there’s definitely worse!
Auto stop-start automatically wears out engine faster. As does deactivation. More CAFE-related over complexity. With decreased reliability.
Agreed!
I love it, but reviews say jeeps don't last. Is this expensive one, better ?
But I might switch it up down the road sometime.
very well explained, thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Yea auto start don’t make a pro difference to me I can live without it. I’d also like a manual option too
There would definitely be nothing else like it anywhere, if it had a manual option!
What’s the mpg with the ecodesiel?
I've never owned one but I've seen people report mid 20s to nearly 30mpg on the highway. And a solid low 20s in town.
I need one
Me too, I want it back! Lol!
Funny that a squirrel showed up at the end...my Mojave has been at the dealer in Boerne for 3 months because a squirrel chewed the electrical harness and they can't get the part because it's supposedly back ordered...may have to trade for a 392. Still love my Mojave :).
Man, sorry to hear about the harness being on backorder! Loved my Mojave!
They should put it in a 2 door JL.
That thing would fly! And especially now that they’re making the Xtreme Recon kit available for the 2 doors now.
Try the OFF-ROAD + button 👍🏻
Regarding the oil…I take it to the dealership. Do you think they add that special oil to it?
With what they’ll charge you I would certainly hope so!
I have used it but not too much at this point.
I want one. Where can I get the best price ?
I would use a vehicle search website such as Autotrader or Car Gurus and search for one either in your area or nationwide, and sort it by price. This will show you the lowest priced ones for the region or distance radius you specify.
"squirrel!" Just like the dog from the movie Up lol
Lol!
Oh yah I test drove one 😊😊😊bad ass
Nice!👍 Yeah, one just has to experience it for themself.
Only one con - you need a mortgage to buy it - everything else is 99% pro 🤷♂️🤪👍
You're not wrong! Lol!
For today's prices, it's sad I was an owner, but prices are very expensive. After the warranty ends! You will feel the pain in your bank account. Run as fast as you can! It's not American owned.
Were you having to make a lot of repairs? I traded mine at 45,000 miles. Had no issues.
13mpg for a 392 is great, I barely get 16 in a 3.6 Gladiator 😂 damned Colorado mountains
I wonder what this would get up there! One way to find out! Lol!
All I want is a torquey 4 cylinder diesel and a 6 speed but here we are with a monster v8
Lol!
Yeah, I got a Hemi….Joe Dirt
Sure …..every Jeep should be $80000.
😍😍😍🔥🔥🔥💪💪💪⚡⚡⚡♥️♥️♥️
👍
Hot Steering Wheel error all day everyday for me
That’s a new one for me. What’s that give you? Is your heated steering wheel on all the time?
@@MotoringAdventures_KE7SAI excellent review! I currently drive a gladiator Rubicon diesel. Thinking of trading for a 392 do you have any regrets getting rid of the Mojave? I also see you had a power wagon and a rebel what’s your top three favorites of all these vehicles?
The neighbours can wake up I’m sorry
😂
it sounds crazy, but to me this is worth $100k
For how unique it is, yeah. The 2024 (and now 2025) Final Editions, I think MSRP close to $100k.
Needs a supercharger
“More horsepower. Always” -Randy Pobst
SQUIRREL!!!!
Lol!
You’ve only spent $3,500 in fuel in 6 mouths 😂
At the time of filming, $2883.53 was spent on fuel for this vehicle. And it was worth EVERY PENNY! 😂 We have relatively cheap gas in Texas. $3.65/gal avg for premium fuel (93oct).
Why anyone would want a junk scatpack motor in their jeep is beyond me smh. I owned a scatpack and it was the biggest POS ive ever owned smfh. I drove it for 3 weeks then sold it.
That's awesome!
Nice. Noice! I have a riddle. What is yet another con that is actually another pro to your jeep? Answer: it is a RubiCON.
lol! That’s a good one Rich!
