I have bought one and Im currently waiting for another to be built. Keep in mind that many Jeep owners add lifts, 37"-40" tires, heavy armor, bumpers, and winches. The power of the 392 laughs at the added weight while the V6 becomes even more of a dog that it already is, even with deeper gears. Jeep was also smart by making the Rubicon 392 full time 4WD which helps to efficiently put all the power to the ground. The Hellcat Rubicon you drove was 2WD which allowed the power to over power the chassis.

A fairly loaded 3.6L V6 Wrangler stickers for around $65k. Another $13k gets you the 392 engine, Fox suspension, larger brakes, steel knuckles, CV joints, beefed up transmission, 392 exclusive leather seats, all of the safety groups, re-engineered ladder frame, etc. What owners are REALLY paying for is the exclusively, resale value and the satisfying V8 rumble that puts a smile on every owners face when pushing on the fun pedal.

It makes sense to me. A similarly equipped V6 Rubicon is over $60,000. Those who calculated the cost of a used (not new) 392 & trans + needed parts at $4-5000 are way underestimating all the costs needed to make the swap. I am picking up my 392XR on Friday. It is like Jeeps version of a G Wagon imho. I always liked Jeeps but never bought one because they lacked power and some other features I wanted in a daily driver. Everything I want in an SUV. Yeah, it is a little pricey but I think it is worth it. You can barely find one under $100k on a lot. They haven't made a lot of them and you can no longer even order one for '22. '23 will likely be last year of the 392 (replaced by the HO Hurricaine). It is a special car.
The 6.4L engine in a small Wrangler was Jeeps way of giving the middle finger to the world. It makes no practical sense but I’m glad they made it. Jeep leadership still has a sense of humor, every other legacy manufacturer leader would have laughed this idea out of the office.
Yeah I disagree when the hellcat motor comes in other platforms. Jeeps to me have always been overrated and to damn expensive even if it comes with a v6 and they still want 60k when it’s worth 20-40. Then they put the 392 in it that’s being phased out for a reason for way more when a scat can be had for less with less weight. If your going to spend the money I would just get the Durango hellcat, track hawk, or trx. Not saying it’s not nice just to expensive and hard to find for what it is to be middle of the tracks in the upper segment of payments. And dodge always acts like they are lambos when you try to look at them or they just don’t help you. I wanted an suv for my wife but all the Big 3 dealers don’t want to help you and if they do then no deals are given at all or they don’t want to let you test drive them. Shit I’ve even driven up in a hellcat and barely got help. I now understand why people buy Hondas. they actually help you and they are cheaper on fuel, lighter, plus last unlike dodge products. And with gas prices the way they are and all dodge products being heavy sales will go down.
I'm usually all for the Heminsanity but a 5.7 would have been perfect and if that's where Jeep is going to go with it cool but a 6.4 in a Wrangler isn't going to make much sense for anyone largely due to the price, because after markups you could just get a TRX or Jailbreak.
Buying a 392 is a no-brainer choice. The resale value on used 392's are going higher than the markup on new ones. Jeep has cut off all 392 orders atm no one knows if they will open for MY23. Prices for existing new and used are going through the roof. Mine sits in my garage, it's going to be kept stock and low miles and no offroading. I have other jeeps to wheel and drive...the 392 is special and will be one of rare jeeps and why I bought it.
Funny you say that. I have on order with no markup but, the dealer had one on the lot somebody returned with 400 miles on it. Those are the ones being marked up, which they did. And they will resale very high because of the rarity factor. Unfortunately, I don’t have the discipline and will drive it into the ground.
There are plenty of folks with built jeeps costing well over 100K, I am one of them. The Wrangler 392 gives me what I want and that is power, the V6 is gutless with big tires and I don't like diesels or the turbo lagging 4 banger. Yes I would spend the money on a 392 Wrangler, also looking at future collectability and the fact that these will keep there value well over any hellcat which I also own.
Agreed on a specific type of person. I find myself putting seat covers on after the gym lol. I have a work truck so it’s my weekend vehicle. Hell I don’t even eat in it. I’d say maybe as I see some wear & tear, then I’ll gradually lay off the OCD mindset. But I’d your a hard working person that you know this is what you deserve and it makes you feel good, the price isn’t bad. Especially these days. I love it. ✌️
I ordered my first Jeep ever at the end of November in 2020. I ordered a 2021 JL Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon. I ordered mine with the 3.6 liter V-6 w/ eTorque. About 2 weeks after I ordered my Jeep the 392 was announced. I was so freaking bummed. And then the Extreme Recon package was also announced too. Had I known those things I would have waited a few months and ordered a 392 with an Extreme Recon package. But oh well. Other than the eTorque, I love almost everything about my Jeep. It is definitely the most capable off road vehicle that I have ever owned. I do need to buy another truck though after I pay off my Jeep because I used the heck out of my trucks in the past. But that’s still another 2 to 3 years away.
I just wish the interior was more bare bones and utilitarian. I don't drive a Jeep because I want it to be like a Cadillac Escalade. I drive a Jeep because I like the utilitarianism aspect. Plate C
I looked for months and went into the dealership in person to negotiate. Being pre approved and on the lot in person adds to that negotiation power. The msrp on mine was 85,600 i paid 82,000 for a new 2022 with the recon package.
I LOVE that vehicle!!! When I first saw they were making that and video I said I wanted one!!! But me living in the Northeast I STILL can’t fathom paying like 90 racks for something that doesn’t have a Hellcat on the side of it… I think I may wait and get a pre-owned one at the end of next year as my retirement gift for myself 😂😂
Yes I would spend 97,000 on a Rubicon 392, I’m jeep guy and I think it’s the perfect Jeep and within about a week I’m just deciding on which color to get I’m ordering one,, thanks for the video buddy👍
One thing you didn't touch on was the fuel demands of the Rubicon 392. Obviously with the lower MPG because of the 6.4L, you're going to burn through a lot of what that 392 requires, and that's Premium grade fuel. As much as I wanted a 392 when they came out, I had a feeling that fuel prices were going to increase eventually, and being that you have to put Premium fuel in the tank, that was the deal breaker for me. Had they gone with a 5.7 like in my Ram Rebel, that would have been easier on MPG and fuel costs. When they start dropped the I6 Hurricane in these, that'll be a game changer.
The 392 is the most bang for the buck rubicon you can order. 392 package comes with so much more then just the engine. And on 40 inch tires and Dana 60s with a 4.88 gear I average 15.5 mpg. Worth ever penny!!
With 4doors and epic Jeep capabilities matched w/a 392. This has got to be the best Jeep ever made. Would love to hear this beast on a hill climb or rock 🪨 crawling...
Honestly, I have always been a Trailhawk fan … but wanting to upgrade to a V8 / hemp and as of 2023, they are going electric 😳 on the Trailhawk … so here I am checking out the Rubicon … and not disappointed.
My Dad had a CJ-5 back in the 60’s…indeed we cleaned it out with a hose. If I recall correctly it had a 4 banger. Not much power, but it was geared so low we could go up and down really steep grades easily. It just kinda slowly pulled you up those steep hills. It was reliable and built to withstand just about anything. But driving on the street was very much like torture. This thing you just tested looks like it would be a real hoot to drive both on and off road, but I don’t think you could really put that much power to use off road unless you were in some kind of desert race. I like Rubicons and I love Hemis…but unless I hit the lotto I don’t think this would be great investment. Just my $.02. I enjoyed the video and your insight.
I think more would sell with a 5.7 which is plenty of power. Also never understood why people complain about the interior of a Jeep? It's meant to go off road and have fun. Cars are made for nice interiors!
I appreciate your content-I like to hear the different views on the 392, brings me to reality that I don't even want it-the cabin is the same as all other wranglers, despise leather so wouldn't have that either and I'm really a speednut but I can get that in my challenger. I know this is for some folks, have yet to really see one on a trail or even someone that really likes it other than you tube. But anyone that happens to be Speed Racers brother I'm listening.
We need more people to buy these outrageously expensive Jeeps and suffer the depreciation loss so others can buy them with low mileage and much lower cost.
The 5.7 has been out now for like 100 years. Why Chrysler/Jeep/MOPAR/FCA/Daimler/Noww Stella….have they NEVER slapped a 5.7 in the wrangler?? The 6 cyl for YEAAAAARRSS!! Why I never even contemplated buying one. Then when they do put a v8 in it, they go 80k and 6.4? And wait until gas is climbing and V8’s are on the way out. It’s madness I tel you! 😉
Why is everyone saying it should have a 5.7? That engine is ridiculously underpowered for its size by today’s standards and the gas mileage isn’t that far off from the 392. It makes complete sense for Stellantis to use the 392 as the last hurrah for 8 cylinder Wranglers. What doesn’t make sense is how expensive this thing is.
Jeep leadership wanted the V8 Wrangler to go out with a bang, hence the 6.4L engine. 2023 will most likely be the last year it is offered before it goes the way of the Do Do bird.
I LOVE my 392XR! I even traded my beloved built JKU for it. I was hoping it would be closer to 60k… However, I think its worth the cost if you look at the price of other new cars. This is a special edition vehicle, so of course the price is “special”. It’s a smooth riding go anywhere sleeper! Plus the MPG is basically the same as my JKU was. It’s definitely a niche vehicle, but it checked all my boxes (e.g. V8, small SUV, AWD, 4WD, rugged, fast, mod-able, Wrangler) Also, where are these low priced TRXs at???
I like the barebones look of my JK; less to be ruined. It has AC, power windows, and only 200 or so horsepowers haha (and half of that with the AC on). 0-60 in about a minute but my steel bumper helps manage traffic flow just fine.
I don't own any jeep product or have the wants for one but I think they would have been better off if they stuffed a 5.7 in it due to gas prices fuel mileage and insurance purposes I agree they needed a v8 but at almost 100k I could justify one if I was to buy at a 100k it would be a trx just makes more sense to me I don't rock crawl and the use of a pick up I do have. Awesome content RACER-X and as always be safe 👍
One of these 392 Jeeps came to the shop I work at yesterday. I didn't believe it had a 392 in it because there's a fake one riding around with the 3.6 just with 392 badges and the hood on it.
Thought I found one for 75k online only to find out the dealership threw a 30k markup on it and ruined my dreams of owning one. So I'll keep my widebody 392 Charger and eventually just get a regular Jeep Sahara, and throw a Ripp Supercharger in it
Yeah it’s bull how these dodge dealers act. Same story in ford and Chevy. Just buy from a private seller and cut those ass hats out they don’t deserve to screw america anymore. You got a dream make it happen.
Like the 392 but would rather see a 5.7 version for the cost alone. Same exact vehicle only with the 5.7. And with the cost of gas 5.7 the 3.6 just doesn't get out of it's own way.
The base cost of vehicles like the challenger or charger on 5.7 vs 6.4 is only a couple thousand. It's just harder to find the 6.4 version without a ton of extras nowadays because there just aren't a lot of vehicle being made.
I ordered a 392 Rubi last year… once it came in and let the $83,000 out the door sink in i ended up passing… its just way to much loot for a Jeep in my book. Another AWESOME upload X!
Seems nowadays it’s hard to even find a 5.7 Grand Cherokee. In ‘13 the dealer had both the 3.6 and 5.7 lined up for a test drive. Did the 5.7 first and had no interest in even trying the V6 after that. I think a 5.7 in a Wrangler would have been just perfect (but not for me @ 6’7” and 280lbs I wouldn’t know how to fold me into the driver seat). Currently drive a RAM… would have loved the 392 option without having to go straight to TRX. That said, considering the money I’ve thrown at it so far and I’m not even done, I could and should have had a TRX (got my ‘19 Laramie dec ‘18).
Im driving a 2013 wrangler. 3.6ltr with 305,000 miles. Got my moneys worth. As for the 392...its cool and all. But i dont think there are alot of jeepers willing to "offroad" such an expensive vehicle. Maybe some overlanding...but nothing hardcore
Those are not 33” tires (you said wheels but you meant tires)….this has the XR package which has 17x8 beadlock capable wheels with 315/70 tires (about a 35” tire) vs the 285/70 tires (about a 33” tire)
Long Tube Headers ? Can long tube headers have enough clearance to fit on this vehicle ? Shorty headers for sure but long tube ? Noting if longtubes do not fit , shortys make zero benefit , it probably essentially has shortys .
here in Hawaii, regular rubicons are stickered at over 80k. Heck, RT 5.7 challengers are 50k LOL Even if I'm not gonna get a 392 rubicon, I'm afraid to see how much it's marked up over here😬
$90,000 is insane. Real jeep enthusiast will put the 392 in a jk or wrecked jl since all you need is the chassis and frame and interior everything else gets changed , motor transmission axles suspension
Love these Jeeps! Out of my price range. 😩 But, I've been happy with the performance of my 2013 3.6 v6 Wrangler Sport 2 Dr. I kept mine stock BUT did give it the Magna-Flow duel exhaust and the K&N cold air. Made a world of difference in the driving experience. Plus...I give it gas...it goes!
Would be my dream vehicle if it was available in a Manual Transmission, and no the crappy flappy paddle shifters don't count. Driving a performance vehicle with an automatic is like driving with a condom on. That's fine if that's what your use to, but I drive with all the feel I can get, the way driving was intended!
Honestly that much power is not needed. Jeeps are not race cars. Its like driving a box, and catches all wind drifts. The base sport with lsd is really all you need in a jeep.
In a normal market I would actually look at one of these but let’s face it, no one selling one of these new for less than 100 grand. This car will be a victim of the times

I got mine at MSRP no markup. Hell I’m ready for more power so getting a tune soon. 4.88s tomorrow! On 37s now. Would hate it in a weak 5.7.
@@MrRjezonie hey if you got at MSRP than props to you, and for your setup the 6.4 makes total sense lol. That setup sounds like it's going to be sick
Yes I would spend the money on a 392 Wrangler, also looking at future collectability and the fact that these will keep there value well over any hellcat which I also own.
i just bought one yesterday and waiting for the delivery. Thank you for the awesome information
Plate C
Freaking zero regrets I absolutely LOVE my 24 392. OffRoad+ turns it into a whole different street beast with pops and burbles
Jeep would have sold a bazillion 5.7l Jeeps.
Probably so 👍
And then we could’ve supercharged them!
Not the way they’re pricing other jeeps
I love that Jeep built it! I hate that they priced it so high. What I really want is a mini TRX with the 392 for about $60k.
Anything Mopar is going to be double priced sadly
Beggars can’t be choosers.
I looked for months and went into the dealership in person to negotiate. Being pre approved and on the lot in person adds to that negotiation power. The msrp on mine was 85,600 i paid 82,000 for a new 2022 with the recon package.
Gotta throw some content on that bad boy. You paid a pretty penny for it, why not show some cool content for it?
@That V8 Life I’d hope there’s a video. Kickass cars you got btw 👍🏼 The SS caught my eye the most, badass Bronco you got tho 🤝
Just bought one to keep at the lakehouse. Front pocket money. Awesome Jeep.
Right! My jeep has 4.5 lift with 35, cloth top no windows and I cannot even recall the last time I checked to see if the AC works!
Ok!! I seen one at a dealership up here in Toronto, Canada for $138K + %13 Tax...COME ON !! $150K over the curb ?? Are we on earth here ?/
We need more people to buy these outrageously expensive Jeeps and suffer the depreciation loss so others can buy them with low mileage and much lower cost.
I am a Jeep lover and rock crawler and I would definitely rock crawl this monster.
Nice video . No thanks for 5.7. Finally pulled the trigger. I just ordered 2023 392XR. Can't wait. We gotta pay to play.
That thing rips. It rumbles perfectly. Fast too
The 5.7 has been out now for like 100 years.
What doesn’t make sense is how expensive this thing is.
would you trade a loaded 2020 Grand Cherokee SRT for it? considering but torn
A 5.7 Hemi would have been cheaper and more practical imo.
i been sayin this since the 392 dropped
Jeep leadership wanted the V8 Wrangler to go out with a bang, hence the 6.4L engine. 2023 will most likely be the last year it is offered before it goes the way of the Do Do bird.
The price difference would be minimal. Look at the cost difference between a base rt and a base scatpack for charger or challenger.
5.7 is a weak motor, no thanks
@@jtc1964x actually… thats backwards lol
I LOVE my 392XR! I even traded my beloved built JKU for it. I was hoping it would be closer to 60k…
However, I think its worth the cost if you look at the price of other new cars. This is a special edition vehicle, so of course the price is “special”.
It’s a smooth riding go anywhere sleeper! Plus the MPG is basically the same as my JKU was.
It’s definitely a niche vehicle, but it checked all my boxes (e.g. V8, small SUV, AWD, 4WD, rugged, fast, mod-able, Wrangler)
Also, where are these low priced TRXs at???
I absolutely love it, but don't think it's quite worth the price. Do I want one? Yep! Will I buy one? Probably not.
Don’t buy off the lot. Have the dealer order it
I still want one. I’ll have to trade my Rubicon 21 for the 392. Hearing the power on it will be awesome.
You never got around to what you said you were going to do... which was talking about the things that jeep Finally corrected on this on this Jeep
Exactly! The 5.7 even sounds better.
I ordered a 392 Rubi last year… once it came in and let the $83,000 out the door sink in i ended up passing… its just way to much loot for a Jeep in my book. Another AWESOME upload X!
6.4 Jeep FTW!
Got my order on a 392 it will be the most fun car ever made
Seems nowadays it’s hard to even find a 5.7 Grand Cherokee.
Don’t forget that the Eco Diesel is a rocket ship too.
I'm not a truck/jeep guy but this one is cool. Just because of the engine
Do they take food stamps? :)
Lol, probably would need food stamps after buying one. Monthly payment would be 1000+
I would love a Wrangler Sport with a 5.7. It would probably be a little more practical. The 392 is just way out of my price range!!
Awesome content buddy 👍💪
I want one!🔥🔥🔥🔥 that’s why I didn’t get a wrangler cuz they didn’t have a v8 version and ended up getting a 2008 Jeep srt8
I gotta agree racerx for the money I'd definitely take a trx over that Rubicon, but thats just me.
Great show mate and a good job explaining everything about the car good on you
My type of vehicle period
Nice looking Jeep, but I’ll stick to my 1990 Jeep Grand Wagoneer. Classic is where it’s at.
So alot of Sahara owners argue their suspension is the same as a Rubicon , that true .
I always thought a Rubicon was made with heavier parts ?
Those are not 33” tires (you said wheels but you meant tires)….this has the XR package which has 17x8 beadlock capable wheels with 315/70 tires (about a 35” tire) vs the 285/70 tires (about a 33” tire)
I am debating between the 392 Jeep and a pickup- tough decision in that neither are cheap.
Would and did! I love mine! ❤
Long Tube Headers ? Can long tube headers have enough clearance to fit on this vehicle ? Shorty headers for sure but long tube ? Noting if longtubes do not fit , shortys make zero benefit , it probably essentially has shortys .
This is the first of your videos I’ve seen and no homo or anything but your eyes are just PIERCING!!
here in Hawaii, regular rubicons are stickered at over 80k. Heck, RT 5.7 challengers are 50k LOL Even if I'm not gonna get a 392 rubicon, I'm afraid to see how much it's marked up over here😬
I wish they’d at least put twin turbos on it or give it a motor like the one in the trackhawk
I like the new intro better than the old one.
Loved the video. Off-roading and Jeeps are the best!
.As always another great review RacerX
Hell yeah I would
Love the 392, can you ever justify the cost? Depends on what the budget and heart says.
in Canada the jump from a 2.0t loaded Rubicon to the 392 is ~30000$ lol
$90,000 is insane. Real jeep enthusiast will put the 392 in a jk or wrecked jl since all you need is the chassis and frame and interior everything else gets changed , motor transmission axles suspension
Many are getting this with the Xtreme Recon package
Have a 392 on order.....Would be nice to see the 5.7 Gladiator.
I wouldn't buy one but I love the 393 in my skat pack killerBee. Nice video there Racer X.
Thanks buddy 👍
Would you buy...? Yes, I did! Still loving her every day!
Should just put the 6.7 Cummins
Would be my dream vehicle if it was available in a Manual Transmission, and no the crappy flappy paddle shifters don't count. Driving a performance vehicle with an automatic is like driving with a condom on. That's fine if that's what your use to, but I drive with all the feel I can get, the way driving was intended!
Then by new 5.0/mustang. It will scare you. Traded my 2022 mach1 w/HP for my new Rubi.
They put a speed limiter on this Jeep and the TRX. You can't get them over 106mph.
Because of the tires. They aren’t rated to go over 110
The new jeeps are clean. The V6 they put out a few years ago is mean.
I agree with everything that you said literally 👍🏿💯
Sumthin different other than a Hellcat❤️🔥
Great one of the best
Honestly that much power is not needed. Jeeps are not race cars. Its like driving a box, and catches all wind drifts. The base sport with lsd is really all you need in a jeep.
Why didn't they put the Boss 429 in it???
The interior is pretty much identical too any other similar speced jl don't really know what you meant by that?
In a normal market I would actually look at one of these but let’s face it, no one selling one of these new for less than 100 grand. This car will be a victim of the times
Don’t buy one of the lot, order it. You can get it with the extreme recon for low 80’s.
@@1titans I just don’t think I want to deal with the hassle. I’m hearing dealer horror stories. The dealer model is so stupid.
Gladiator 345/5.7l would be great👌
Straight pipe it and add a cam, then you’ll have a jeep that sounds correctly.
