- We bought the house as a holiday home back in 2015 with the intention to move here in the future. We have both now retired and our new life in the French Countryside starts here. This film follows us from East London to the Pays de la Loire in North West France.
Starting place- huge strimmer, extra big lawnmower or tractor… gardens grow so fast
Thanks Francis. You're right there. 👍🏼
Your channel was recommended by French Farmhouse Diaries. I subscribed immediately. I look forward to watching every video from the first. Welcome home!
Aw Bless. Thanks Sally, that means a lot. I was so new to filming and had a rubbish phone when I started so the quality does get better. I hope you enjoy the channel. Thanks again.
Love the tour beautiful grounds
Thanks Virginia. That seems like a long time ago now. 😀
Love hearing the birds in the background. Especially since it’s winter in Canada for me.
Hi Penny, everyday is like that here. It's often the only thing you can hear. Thanks for watching.
Wow! Congratulations Colin, I'm in awe! What a fantastic property and what an adventure you've started! I'm really looking forward to following your journey! Thanks for sharing! 😀👍
Cheers Andy. Next video on Sunday. 👍🏼
Bonjour! Thanks for the comforting video of the French countryside. Continue to La Vie Est Belle misuer. Au Revoire. I love the channel 🙏🏽♥️
Thanks for the comment. There's loads of other stuff on my channel. Enjoy. Thanks again.
Beautiful .
Thanks Rajive. Much appreciated. 👍🏻
Hi guys - Robin Freestun (from Orstraya) here. Just watched your episode 75, where you read out ‘my’ question about how long you’ve lived there etc. This was actually a question from my wife Sue, using my RUclips account 😂. I’ve set her up on her own now.
It is nice watching your adventure vlog. We’ve enjoyed several ´house-sits’ in France, and also love the food, wine and lifestyle. You recently showed the front of our Tasmanian friends’ house in Bellac! (Built in the 1300s).
Keep up the good work.
You talked about buying cars. Our friends also bought a second house just to garage their car! (As you say - buy and keep 😀)
Cheers Robin. Thanks for watching and the question from Sue. Very interesting. 👍🏼
That snake was awesome dad. And love the frogs leg joke haha. This is awesome video
Thanks mate.
I just watched you interview with Graham the fireman who moved to France. I really liked him and he had some wonderful experiences and seemed like a genuine gentleman in every sense of the word. Thank you for such being a good interviewer and letting him do most of the talking and for you encouraging him to share some of his story. I would be interested in seeing the property he bought. He described it so
Thanks for the comment. I'll be seeing Graham later this week and will pass on your comments. I'm sure he'll be appreciative of the positive feedback.I think it's important when interviewing to just listen. Thanks again.
Great First Video Colin.
I thought I would go back to see how it all started.
Take care mate.
Cheers, Huw
Cheers Huw. That seems like a lifetime ago. If only I knew then what I know now. 😀
Welcome permanently to France. My wife and I have been here 11 years now. We have a small llama farm in the Allier 03.
Seeing you leave your house took us back. Especially the removal lorry that had to park on the pavement and left a lasting memory of 7 broken paving slabs as it pulled away. They are still probably there.
I hope the post Brexit bureaucracy wasn’t too bad.
Hi. Thanks for watching. Even though it's only 6 months ago it seems like much more. Time seems to fly here, the days just whizz by. The paving slabs left behind are a testament to your vision. The bureaucracy is just what one would expect but it's not insurmountable with the right advice. Thanks again and good luck.
Hi thanks for the reply.
I was just wondering if you had a while you could look at the video I put up on my page. I am toying with the idea of making more based around the llamas and the farm.
@@ourllamacalmerfarminfrance239 Sure, will do. thanks.
Loved seeing your French farmhouse in the French countryside TFS! I enjoyed the tour so much. I’d love to see a tour of the inside too. I hope to have a place in the French countryside someday. ~ Jessica from California🏝
Thanks for the comment. I'll do a tour of the inside just before Christmas. Good luck getting your own place here too.
The little cart deserves to be restored be beautiful 🕊️
Thanks for the comment. I think the cart is way past the point of restoration. Google " Triggers broom," and you'll understand.
LOVE IT .KEEP UP WITH YOUR GOOD JOB
Thanks Papa Thoai. Enjoy the rest of the videos. 👍🏼
Lovely property
Thanks Billie. We love it. 👍🏼
Awesome 👏😍 A dream come true😍
Thank you so much for the comment. It really is.
Kia ora from NZ. I look forward to following your journey as you settle in to a new way of life.
Thank you for the comment. Hope you enjoy the videos.
subscriber #94 here. Thank you from Kentucky, USA. Because u take the time to share this content on ur channel my life is enriched. I wish you the best of luck and hello to the little dog and the fish.. No hello to the snake
Hi David, Greetings from France. Thanks for the comment and subscribing. Bella and the fish say Hi back. Hope you enjoy the rest of the videos.
Looks lovely :)
Thanks Leigh. 👍🏼
More than views, I enjoyed the background score :).
Glad you liked it!
You should turn that circular paved area in your driveway into one of those old railway turntables.
Drive your car in, press a button and hey presto it turns the car around for you.
Ha Ha, what a brilliant idea. 007 would be proud of you. 👍🏼
First order- wood chipper and compost bin... Plant flowers in the old wagon.
Thanks for the comment. All good suggestions. I'll look into the chipper for next year.
You must try duck casserole - the French even can it - really nice!!
I love anything duck. 👍🏼
👌
👍🏼
In the carat put flowerpots or large container with flowering vines like wisteria that will eventually cover it!
Thanks Carol. 👍🏼
Your vlog was recommended by French Farmhouse Diaries. Another 37 more episodes to go. I guess I will find out what you did about the wagon.
Hi Bill, thanks for watching. I hope you enjoy the rest of the videos. The quality does get better, I didn't really know what I was doing then. Cheers. 👍🏼
You got a nice place there. New subscriber here! :)
Thanks Atom. Thanks for subscribing and you're most welcome. You've got a lot of catching up to do 😀.
Looking forward to playing catch up on your vlogs. Come to your channel from a recommendation of another vlog. How exciting.
Hi Siren Dipity ( Great name ). Welcome aboard. The videos do improve as I learn what I'm doing with the camera, editing and sound. Enjoy the videos, all the best. 👍🏼
@@FrenchCountrysideLife I couldn’t do what you do. When school was closed here back in March 2020 we would video reading books for our PK and Kindergarten children 🤦♀️ i loathed seeing myself 😂 and thinking parents would see me in my goofball way of reading. I get rather animated 😂😂😂 I’m so glad we resumed come the new year and we haven’t closed 2021-22 mask are finally only a choice. I would have a rainforest going with those plastic hoodies 🤪😵💫😂 I am definitely enjoying catchup. The first one I saw was like number 38 or 39 and you are putting this on the market. I’m sure I will find out more as I go. Have a wonderful day and I’ll continue with my journey of your life and home. TTFN
Thanks Siren Dipity. Hope you enjoy the videos. I felt a bit awkward at first but got used to talking to my self in no time. 👍🏼
@@FrenchCountrysideLife 😂👍❤️
First off, congratulations. Secondly, I'm thinking old wagon restoration with a V8. Nice video. Looking forward to seeing some more. ❤️
Cheers Chris, A V8 in that ...what could possibly go wrong. Next video next Sunday.
Interestingly.
Hi, new subscriber from India
Welcome. Thanks for subscribing. I hope you enjoy the videos.
Pretty cottage! Whereabouts in France are you? 2 years from retirement, thinking about moving to France, so would love to hear about the changes to Brexit and how that impacts on your move to residency now. Hoping to get over next year to look at a couple of regions to try and narrow down where we would like to settle.
Thanks for the comment. We are on the border of Normandy and Pays de la Loire. We bought the house in 2015 so under the withdrawal agreement we were able to claim a 10 year residency. Things are quite different after Brexit in a number of ways. E.g. Passports need at least six months, sending stuff to Uk is a pain and lots more. Property is cheap in more rural regions like Pays de la Loire, Creuse, Charente.
Brittany is picturesque but it has the Atlantic weather. Hope this helps.
🌟👍🍀💐
Thanks Coby.👍🏼
Loving the aerial shots of your house! Do you have a drone or did you hire one? Either way, it looks beautiful!
Thanks, I got the drone as refurbished from Amazon. About £100 off, but it is pretty much brand new. There'll be another post on Sunday. Thanks for watching and I'll continue to enjoy your channel.
That's a cute name, "French Countryside Life". Fits perfectly. How do you heat the conversion? No chimneys?
Thanks Evelyn. There is a chimney but it's around the back. We have a Log burner and some electric radiators upstairs with underfloor heating in the kitchen. Glad you like the name.
Be careful about the Frogs etc. The snakes will come for the frogs !
Thanks Frederick. Keep watching the rest of the videos and you'll see how close to the truth you are !!!
Cut the hedge back and plant wild flowers inside it. ( the old cart)
Jane and Tony of ‘Not quite a chateau’, recommended your channel to her viewers in one of her vlogs, so I’ve subscribed to be nosey 😬
Lovely big garden
Thanks for subscribing R & G , you are most welcome. Good suggestion with the cart.
@@FrenchCountrysideLife …………….. couldn’t work out from your vlog (yes I’m being nosey !!)
You are selling up and moving south somewhere, Charente was mentioned in your vlog. Does that mean you are moving to the Charente or you are already in the Charente. ? 🙂
@@radiogramgramophonetoons5802 All will become clear as you watch the following videos but we are in the Pays de la Loire and we are planning to move to Charente. We start viewing properties in the next two weeks. You're most welcome to come along and see what we find. Thanks again.
@@FrenchCountrysideLife ……….. ok thanks…… (A bit of useless information)……my younger sister lives in what I believe is the charente/dordornge border. Close to a town called Montmoreau St Cybard
@@radiogramgramophonetoons5802 We're viewing a property about 40 minutes from there. It all looks lovely.
Wow tons of work to do should keep you busy for a month or two. Lol. will follow you on your journey. How much land do you have???
Thanks for the comment. The work is never ending but it's mostly fun to do. We've got about half an acre. When the weather gets too bad to work outside the work on the inside will start. (Decorating etc).
hi its Doug i was wondering if you could help me I'm trying to come up with a name fictional French Chateau for my cozy murder mystery book any ideas
Will you be overlooked at the front if you cut the hedge....looks like you have a close neighbour there?
The property next door is derelict and likely to be so for the foreseeable future. Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoy following our story. There’s lots to watch !!
@@FrenchCountrysideLife I just discovered your blog today actually and have now gone back to No.1, I think I will enjoy it. We renovated our finca in Spain....thank you for replying
Such a pretty house! Can foreigners take out a mortgage ot purchase real estate in France?
Thank you for your kind comment. We are British and bought the house in 2015. As far as we know any foreigner can still get a mortgage as long as they have the income to pay for it.
@@FrenchCountrysideLife Thanks for the response! I'm originally from Europe and after living in the US for the last 16 years, I'm starting to really think about returning back. France is just too beautiful!
Could you make the sound louder? I have my volume as loud as I can and still difficult to hear
Sorry Billie, I really struggled with the sound levels when I started. I got that issue resolved as I went on though. Thanks for watching. 👍🏼
If I were you I would get rid of that bamboo it will spread everywhere if not attended to
Thanks for the comment. That's a work in progress. It really does spread quickly.
Kinda Boring
That was my first video. They do improve.
@@FrenchCountrysideLife thank you for the tour. 🦘🦘🦘
