This week, we take a look at rural France and its development through the ages. Like in many other European nations, France saw a massive exodus towards its urban centres during the 19th and 20th centuries - a demographic shift that has had long-lasting effects. But the shift has also left rural France with several issues to deal with, such as education and technology, pushing many of these areas to now go on a charm offensive to try to attract the country’s so-called "neo-rural" population.

Rural France looks VERY attractive to me. Imagine having access to everything France has to offer + a quiet corner of a picturesque medieval village. Telecommunications is key.
@@hirondelle8734 I'm on the waiting list for Starlink (SpaceX) and got an email recently inviting me to join up as a Beta tester. The monthly price for the service made me reconsider. It's double the cost of what I'm paying now and there is no guarantee of performance. Starlink sends you a small satellite dish with a receiver and a power supply by mail or courier. You probably will be asked to fill out a weekly or monthly questionnaire.
Thanks for the suggestion though.
I was pining for French rural life. But then I realized that I lived in western Massachusetts for four years and it resembles the German countryside quite well. I've never been to Vermont, but I'd imagine it's even more beautiful than western Massachusetts, with huge amounts of forests, the darling villages, the rustic covered bridges. So I already have beautiful countryside only 3 hours away from where I live. And no passports, visas, immigration and new language rigmarole to deal with. So...time to move to rural Vermont! :D
I also live in western , Massachusetts and I do love it but you should definitely visit France. Coincidently, I just booked a month's stay in a little town in estern France called Ozenay . I have been to Vermont and New Hampshire, Main and stayed many times in those areas and I can tell you there is a great difference from them and Europe. I have been to France as well as most of the other European countries and they all have so much to experience. Life is short , go travel it will change your life.
@@dominickb7046 please let me know your experience I’m France village. Thank you!
I think lifestyle, culture and much more is very different though than in Vermont. Also, within in European union you can travel anywhere (were there no Covid rules). Kind regards from Austria:)
Wow this is weird! When ever mass is brought up it’s normally eastern mass. I’m from western mass too. Westfield born and raised!
@@dominickb7046 do you speak fluent French ?
Would love to visit France
Rural France is absolutely beautiful.
The countryside of France is France to me, not Paris or Lyons.
Every country's country's are beautiful
@@anuragvishwakarma6275 ...for the most part, yes. But this video topic is specifically about France, and not every country in the world. If a another video is about a different country, such as Mexico, Germany, Armenia, or whatever, then I would most likely comment on the beauty of that country, if highlighted in the video. I don’t understand why people cannot appreciate or give credit to a country in a video without getting offended or discouraged. Guess haters are going to hate.
@@jbhann I am not hating for sure just my opinion
@@anuragvishwakarma6275 ...then why even say anything, because again, the video was specifically about France? If there’s a video on Japan and someone comments on the beauty of Japan’s countryside, I’m definitely not going to add a comment about how beautiful the United States is...because the video is about Japan. The only reason I can see why someone would say such a thing, is to intentionally devalue the positive comment a person said about a country. I’m not French, so it’s not a French pride defending type of thing. Where are you from?
If I had the money, I would retire in that place. So peaceful
As an inhabitant of France campaign , believe me you have the best lives of the world.
@@georgedelanoy9548 you think living in that place is difficult?
@@InsideF1 no at all , you must have a car of course. But this is very great. You have good restaurant , a way of live typically French , the people are very welcoming (you will see) ... it’s the best way of life (you have at very well , you are close from the nature ...)

@@fbyi2940 of course bro you have excellent natural road
The country sides are so cool and calm. I love the way u presenter it.
That was an interesting story. It needs updating in the age of Covid19. I imagine more people have moved to the countryside to have more space to breathe.
Those villages don't look as deprived as some areas in Spain. Spain has thousands of abandoned villages, no services of any kind nearby. But, it is a lot cheaper than living in France.
I'm guessing that is part of the plan of the world economic forum is getting people out of the villages and into "smart cities". In 20 years I imagine majority of rural towns in the world will be abandoned.
where in Spain? 😍
I always like France... beautiful country , city, also like village life...
I’ve had to drive around Central France four or five times and it’s empty! Villages, buildings, houses all closed down. Catastrophic
It´s even worse in rural Spain.
Young people throughout the world abandon small villages and flock into cities to begin careers
What happened to the digital economy that was going to change everything? 😂
@@abrahkadabra9501 it did change everything, that’s why people left the rural areas you donut.
Yep that’s large parts of France. No one wants to live there.
i remember when i was spending my vacation in the small commune in Bretagne. it was impossible to use my mobile phone. i was only getting signal on the cliff. but having to travel to find signal was fun indeed ( for a tourist ) , it allow me to discovered a lot of cool place.
Really beautiful country and beautiful nice peoples. Lots of love
2:18 R8 Gordini casually driving by, 5:31 casually walking with a baguette, this is so french xD
Thank you so much. I was looking for French made car.
As part of my previous job, I visited france on multiple occasions. People are very friendly and food is excellent.
This is how all of France should look like! If Paris were like this it would be a much more beautiful place. I love France !
As a French comedian said in a show i saw : Paris is nice with all the monuments and museums... But it's full of Parisians who doesn't seem to have teeth ( because you'll never see them smile ).
The view of Rural France gives a very cozy feeling to the viewers ! The place is quite attractive due to its quiet and serene environment ! Please mention the name of the village.Merci beaucoup ! 😃
absolutely love rural france or the countryside....love it...wish I could stay and work there after graduation but didnt.....just managed to travel there.....this is the real France
In Canada, virtually every village has at least one cell phone provider, and this is a huge country geographically. Why can't France adopt a similar practice? I live in a smaller town, and we have high speed internet comparable to any city (9,000 people).
because the parisians and especially the gouvernment only care about "Pariiis" and parisians, that's why I always hear about Paris=France. No, the rest of us, the rest of France is bigger and better. It's funny that are gouvernment call the parisians "parisiens" and the rest..."Province", like it's a town, but it's just 90% of France ...lol sorry i'm pissed by macroooon
@@poucelina4313 do you vote in terms of legislatures in France national elections or are the elections decided on popular vote.
Unless your politicians are toothless, the only reason why you don't feel represented is if the voting happens only on majority basis.
I live in rural Canada and I do not have cellular service.
@@poucelina4313. Why only Macron. Was it better with Hollande and Sarkozy?
@@poucelina4313 You seem to have an inferiority complex toward parisians

very nice video. i like rural France life.
This is lovely! I wish to live there!
Great reportage merci. I would live in any of those villages! De nouvelle zelande
Beautiful place.
Good humble people 🙏🏼
Absolutely loved it, would love to visit these countryside. 🙂🙂❤❤
Glad to see the country doing something specific to tackle the growing trend of leaving the countryside and moving to the city for jobs. Having a healthy countryside, including small towns and farms is very important for the overall health of the France in general. Plus, I do believe it is the government's responsibility to invest in its own people by providing some opportunity for them to then come up with their own ideas and way to survive. And this opportunity is solid and quick internet access to as many disparate regions as possible.
It’s beautiful 🇫🇷
Lovely place!
Hope by now (October 2019) things are going much better in French rural villages than three years ago...
Hmm..nope xD but still better that Paris. But seriously we like our rural villages
Doctors and nurses can volunteer and vacation at the same time in a quiet place.Macron needs to stop concentrating on globalism and help this people first
Your plan is flawed. Why would medical professionals volunteer on their vacation? You're assuming they're all paid so well they can afford to do so.
@@macnosmutano4849 And in France they have very little well deserved free time, so they need to rest, volunteering is still work and requires a lot of effort

Very interesting. I was raised in a very small town and we had combined classrooms. We did have to drive far to get to a doctor, very innovative. Would love to live in rural France, I’m a mental health counselor and would love to offer my service.....not likely since I’m American 🤔
Who forcing you to stay at USA?
Why are you staying in USA? Open your horizons, learn a new language and practice as much as you can. Go in France (not Paris) for vacations, that will give you somewhat of a idea of how you would be living.
It's ironic. My parents have the optic fiber broadband in the middle of nowhere village of 200 ppl in Poland and connection is way quicker than mine in Berlin! I'm really surprised to see from all EU countries, the zone blanche in so many places in France and so little fact broadband connection. France can be pretty attractive for digital nomads with families that could boost those communities, but fast internet access is essential to attract them.
I live in France Profonde. Quiet, and beautiful. Good internet here - fibre already in place, and also an excellent 4G signal.
Excellent video🤙🤙🤙
I am in love with village life...
That's a truly beautiful place
Here in Mexico, Telcel, owned by Carlos Slim, made possible to have internet in every place. Wonder how France that it´s richer can not afford to do the same.
If you are really desperate, Starlink internet is an option in remote locations. Problem in many of these regions is the lack of an economy.
@@RM-el3gw Starlink is still in the Beta testing stage and not available everywhere yet.
Maybe in Mexico the population is less splitted, in France there is a village every few kilometers, or maybe the French find it unacceptable that a few thousand people out of a population of millions of inhabitants don't have an internet connection and journalists are more keen to show it in the news unlike other countries.
Actually, if you look after some info, you realise that Spain and France are the leading nation of Europe in term oh High Speed Network. Imagine that Germany is two times smaller than France and you see that it is a feat.
I'm tired to be the belgian guy who defend France in every video about France...
This is hapenning world wide. It's kinda sad to be honest. I lived in a rural area from the day I was born 'til 8 years old. I still dream of saving enough money and moving back.
France my favorite country
I like francis rural area and public
Children from grade 1 to 8 in countrysides all over the world use to be the norm, I don't see why it's a big deal. As a matter of fact I believe it has many benefits. I live in Canada and our rural towns & villages are disappearing by the day as well.
You have the choice not to be connected (and yet here you are).
They don't! they have no chance to succeed without connection to the big world and suffering a huge lack of opportunity in almost everything. Internet is not just RUclips and Facebook, its the entire world for any service possible and the majority of golabl economic.
I love to live such beautiful village life
very good video about village
Amazing village life.
I always choose Harmony and self respect more than anything else
Rural communities in the USA 🇺🇸 , same problems with internet. Maybe with starlink it will change 🙏🏼🙏🏽🙏🏾/ This seems like a good model and people want out of cities . Wishing France 🇫🇷 the very best 🇺🇸❤️
Why is a developed country like France do not have full network coverage entirely? Still I like France.
Come to Germany, it is even worse here :D It's a trip back to 1999!
Wow that place is an upmarket surbub compared to our African rural definition
Not just Africa but US too!
I am American and rual in US is really hopeless for a rich nation lol
If everyone has to go to the cemetery to get enough bars to send / receive texts, you might as well just meet there.
nice
Beautiful
There should be a company that provides towers to communities - pooling resources to purchase, and maintain the tower. They could partner with a larger company, so the plan isn't useful only with these towers.
Very interesting, thank you. But in comparison, this makes rural England seem well connected !
The French shops serve the local community, thus being there to fit in with their locals.
I am not surprised that new people do not move to these places due to the HIGH rental charges
Where is this place?
How's the network now in 2023?
Do like Florida did. Retirees need a place to live. 3 retirees equal one manufacturing job. Huge wave of of people can bring a new economy to a small town. They bring cash to buy houses, move savings into local banks, buy food and love movies, theater etc.. spend a lot of money for health care and bring a wealth of knowledge which can be used for volunteer work. What they look for are low taxes, fair food prices, safe, friendly inviting environment. We make economic zones for businesses to lower their cost, why not do the same for retirees.
But you have to live in France though. 😂
All those satellites floating around Earth and rural France can't get any good internet service?
It depends on which part of the country. It concerns 0,18% of the population, for the moment. Less and less with time, like in every country.
Great village life

Beautiful woman, too.

Thank you so much for uploading and sharing what we never saw. I dream working in Europe somewhere like caregiving or farm work. MOST of all people in Europe are the best like Japanese. Instead of luxury living l prefer simple righteous life. I am trying to find opportunity there to get a visa. IF you find any work opportunity please let me know. I have a ten years old son to accompany.
But I think most people now want to move out to the countryside and live with nature.
Same in Ireland
The ethnic native French people need to make more children, 3 per family.
Most of them would still move to already overcrowded Paris.
they should maybe award such mothers with iron cross
Greetings from Bangladesh.
Please take me here.
Work from home will change this
Can’t work from home with no internet. That is their biggest hurdle. No internet no young people moving in. Older people die off, village becomes deserted
You have to open immigration system for rural area Its can be lead growth
Yes right by the way who doesn't want to live in European countries specially France
No thanks! The Uk will be happy to welcome you.
LOL at the amount of people carrying baguettes in this video. The meme is real. I actually find this video extremely positive for the future of France. Cheap farm land and entire communities of native Europeans. Home schooling children is legal in France too so why send them to Marxist indoctrination centres at all?
I'm Australian, British gentically and always wanted to move to Europe. That dream became negative when I began to learn about the decay of all Western Europe as well as land prices in Britain. Now I'm looking at France to live in the country to start a permaculture farm and raise dairy cows in a type of sanctuary for them. Love the French language, culture and beautiful girls too!
Would be better for whole Europe to bring back conservative family France population next 50 years is 10milion people the villagers got the right to have clear water, electrici, Internet but government has to spend million of euro just because 5people live in village. Is better if the move near to a city France also has poor people who are not able to feed themselves
thats what i like about the french people they fight for there rights. The uk has given up theres not high rise blocks there think yourself lucky full of high rise in uk not good

Lol its 2022, did they get phone signal and internet already? Hope the satellite internet can help them.
People have lived for thousands of years in these places. Now we have cell phones for about 25 years, and suddenly people can't live without it anymore and are even complaining of bad cell phone service. Come on! Stop complaining and just think! There are many solutions. Satelite phones, satelite internet, main lines. Or you can put an special antenna on the roof of your house for extended range. I hate that they are pushing for more and more cell towers all over the globe. At least France is still a country where you have many places where you are not being radiated 24/7 with electromagnetic radiation. I might even move to France for this reason.
If they have reception near cemetery they just have to install antenna on top of church tower and place repeater somewhere nearby.
Due to low demographics Europepopulation will change. It has happened along history. Facing the decline of Europeans by new Europeans.

So ... it all boils down to bloody cell phones ?!?
The bees are dying , in part because of cell phone tower electro-magnetic pollution ...
Non Wifi Internet is however pretty useful ...

French countryside must be more open for other Europeans, Russians or Ukrainians for example. We're all Christians and white peoples. Reach people don't want to move in countryside for living, others don't have a legal rights. Visa problems, right to work in France and so on

I grew up in a small town in rural France, a doctor came from eastern Europe stayed ther less than a year before leaving because he couldn't find a place to open his office in a city less than 500 Km from the village ( just a first step for him he thought ). He was as racist as you are, even some of the localy known racists considered he was going a bit too far sometimes.
Didn't heard from him since, some say he went back to his country.
We had a liberal nurse in a nearby village, not white nor christian. worked hard, nice person and ( contrary to the previous case ) didn't complained about on standby work.
