Star Fox Restored - Corneria

- Corneria's theme from Star Fox, restored to full CD Quality, using the original source quality synth and sample sources!
This restore was done by Milon Luxy! Milon has long since been researching a good number of SNES games to find their sample sources, and Star Fox was the next one he targeted to look at. The result of his research (and some other research done by other members) is that nearly EVERY SOUND from the game, had it's source found, resulting in us now able to do more Star Fox tracks! With the combined efforts of Milon and Moola, we will do every single track from the game that we can, with the sources we have found. We hope you all enjoy this long anticipated game, as, in my personal opinion, it was well worth the wait, as the game sounds STUNNING in this form.
If you like the work Milon has done here, feel free to add him on Discord: Milon Luxy#7462
You can download this song in Lossless FLAC from here: drive.google.com/file/d/1ylSh...
A folder with all of the songs for this game can be found here: drive.google.com/drive/folder...
All of the instruments we used here are documented on the NEWER VGM Sound Sources spreadsheet! This sheet documents the sounds of many games, with series like Mario and Sonic having their own dedicated tabs. The Rules page also links to some other spreadsheets that you may find to be of interest. You can check out the spreadsheet at this link: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

The missing Snare for this game has been found! We are now able to do this, and many other tracks! Only one melodic sample is left to find, before we're able to work on nearly everything!
What is that ? The missing one ?
Is there anywhere you list the instruments you find?
@@jackcimino8822 Thanks! Makes me want to dust off FLS.
I'm so fucking excited!
I'm so exited!
Crazy how this sounds like a rearrangement but is still the real deal.
It's not the real deal.
@@rasul01 read the description mate.
@@rasul01 It's pretty close. A musician tracked down what samples Hajime Hirasawa used for the track. When you digitize a sample, it gets a bit crunched, and so you got the distinctive SNES sound. This musician simply compiled the source samples and remade the song in a more-lossless format.
Look a bit into how tracker music is made and it'll give you some idea.
@@sandakureva SNES had a compression based on ADPCM for their samples, and they had to be crunched to a particular level so the entire track, audio driver, and sound effects could fit within the 64KB sound processor memory.
@@soundspark Correct. It's what gave the SNES that muted sound we all remember, since in order to save space, sound designers would clip frequencies (since that'll shave off a few bytes... which were crucial back then.)
Iirc, a lot of SNES music was actually composed in a program that worked similar to FastTracker II, then that data was compiled in a way that the SNES could handle.
YMMV, since there were no "rules" on how to do it. Other composers were using oodles of other programs, all with extensions written by their prospective employers to move that musical data over to the SNES in a way that would run. It's also why a lot of cheaper games sound the same... because they all used the same samples sequenced by the same software.
This box art makes it look like a 90s puppet sci-fi movie... and honestly that would be amazing.
Yeah, Very Jim Henson like!
I'd love to see a movie adaptation of Star Fox with puppets, bonus points if they get the Jim Henson company involved in it. They nailed the puppetry and character designs in the Star Fox Zero E3 vids.
watch the original star fox commercials. it was live action fox puppet
Well it was based on Miyamoto's love of Thunderbirds and other Gerry Anderson.
Pretty sure there was going to be a Star Fox Netflix series in that style a few years back but got canceled because Nintendo was upset it got leaked
They did it, they actually found the snare that was lost for eons!
Bill, where’s my snare?
Do NOT listen to this while driving!
This track goes so hard! I love Starfox 64, but I've always preferred the SNES soundtrack.
I say the same every time I play SNES! looks more serious and danger...
@@victorchucky4281 Star fox 64 is like a team america styled parody of snes star fox. It is silly and there're no stakes. The arwing is also a joke, looking more like a shoe than the speedy unstable prototype weapon that was the original arwing.
@@bert7651 In the Snes game your wingmen are even gone for good if they are shot down. Unlike 64 where they just do a pit stop.
This, other SNES themes, Meteo, and Zoness have always been my favorite Star Fox tracks
To think I'd listen to the original compressed version years ago. Absolutly stellar!
So this is the uncompressed original version ?
@@CooLK1992 My apologies. I meant, original composition with compressed samples.
@@vergil114 ahh ok 👍🏻
nice thumbnail m8
Also yeah this song is very kicking
I like your profile photo
Despite I grew up with Star Fox 64, this tune is the most memorable of all ! Kinda like the Hyrule Overworld theme from the Zelda games.
I like SF64 ost but it has to many trumpets, lol. This one is better IMO.
@@Imgema What's wrong with the trumpets ?
@@aidanhever3369 Εh not my favorite style.
@@Imgema I see.
Yeah, I can relate. :)
Every year I would look forward to going to my aunt's house because she had a big projection screen tv, a big sound system attached to it, and a SNES with Star Fox. This OST goes SO HARD and this restoration is amazing
Has to be one of the greatest "Level 1" songs ever.
It throws you right into the action, you get that intense feeling of being fighters being scrambled in an emergency to save the homeworld
So a Yamaha TG77 FM/Sample synth was used for the soundtrack? Incredible. Long live Yamaha!
oh dear lorde. that bass. that synth. incredibly glorious!
my one personal nitpick. the character voice sfx are also part of the song and i cannot not unhear "badabahdahba" and "youknowwebejammin" when i hear this song.
This restoration has more drive to it than the compressed version.
I want to play Star Fox with msu1 enhancements now.
I love that snes soundfont though it makes pokey means business amazing too.
If they continue to release these I will do the pcm's for them and upload a pack. Already have all of these released songs done and it sounds good in game.
I dropped everything to listen to this
This reminds me of the song Afterburner from Afterburner II.
Star Fox SNES has such an amazing soundtrack with so many varied musical styles yet it all fits in the game wondefully.
I hope that you guys can give the rest of the soundtrack this treatment as it deserves a lot of love and attention.
holy fucking shit this sounds too good for my ears on headphones, GOD DAMN
AAAAA PLEASE DO THE WHOLE OST!!!! IT BANGS SO HARD
I like how in the cover art all the wingmates are looking upwards at the sky, but Fox is looking stoically forward. That detail is pretty profound.
It's like listening to a part of history. This soundtrack in the restored format is so insanely epic! Great job!
Would so love to play this game with the restored track!!!! Awesome!!!
Goosebumps and nostalgia all at the same time
thanks to Milon Luxy and everyone that puts these together
Taking a epic song & fully realizing it's epicness...
I can now die happy
This song IS Starfox/Starwing.
This song IS the day I opened my birthday present with my SNES in Starwing inside.
I thought I was having a nostalgic dream, but this is the real deal! I am Blissfuly amazed at this restoration, you guys did such an extraordinary job! My ears just can't have enough of it. It really takes me back. Thank you.❤
An interesting thing I've realized while listening to this, the "beep" instrument melody that plays in the first five seconds is present through the first parts of the chorus. That makes it even better!
Yeah you’re dead right lol it sounds sick ✔️ somewhere in a parallel timeline starfox is one of the most successful shows on the tv in the 90s with this as the intro theme tune
That Band version fanfare is so close!
Please do a full ost remaster
I was talking with a friend and about to show him something on YT, but the second I saw this in my recommended I stopped and clicked. I've been waiting on this one for so long!
Absolutely beautiful! So crisp and clean. I'm always wary of remixes/covers that stray from the original, so I'm really happy to find a restoration that stays faithful. Thank you for sharing!
This kicks ass!
Happy 30th anniversary, Starfox - the first 3d home console game ever. Not that Nintendo is gonna say or do a damn thing since it's not Mario or Zelda...
I instantly recognized what music this was (despite not knowing the name)
got me headbanging!
This slaps so hard
Even if you haven't played star fox, you have to know this song
SNES soundfont is too damn good.
Absurdly good! This OST is criminally underrated
These uncompressed facsimiles are incredible! Nostalgia explosion!
God DAMN YES!!!! Love ya bro hot damn this song slaps
i keep coming back at these, its amazing seeing how this was restored
Still one of my favourite SNES soundtracks! This restoration really allows the song to shine free of the SNES hardware's sample quality limitations - great work tracking down all of the original sources. Hoping more Star Fox is on the way in future - Titania and Fortuna in particular, those are absolute fire IMO. = )
Wonderful work on a wonderful piece of music, guys. Excellent.
Another absolute banger! Amazing!
This is incredible! It’s one of my favorite game soundtracks! Can’t wait to hear the rest of them!
In my opinion, the soundtrack of the first game is the best of the series. 🙂
Ohhhhh heck yeah! One of the best video game tracks of all time in full glory! Thank you!
Amazing Restoration of a Great Sound Track!
This is the beginning of a great era of Music!
the drums sound so good. Dunno if Aquatic Ambience got leaked…. but that would be a wicked restore
This sounds amazing!
Totally awesome! Really cool hearing the true, original version of this classic tune. Would love to hear Space Armada remastered as well.
One of the best SNES restorations out there. Amazing work!!
I always cry when I hear this... It's very nostalgic.
Just discovered this channel! Looking forward to see more in the future!
Wow,sounds great, thank you for sharing this with everyone.
Amazing job! Sounds awesome.
You're doing gods work imo. Its just so satisfying to listen to this on a hi-fi stereo...
wow, it sound so clear...
So awesome as always guys!
This is so beautiful to listen to. When I first played Star Fox, I was blown away by its visuals and dynamic presentation. I just couldn't believe my eyes and my imagination ran wild. TO this day, I still play the living hell out of it and hearing restored works such as from yourself is brilliant. I hope you do more. I really want to hear Space Armada's theme in its glory!!! Good luck!!!
Glorious! Nice work Milon Luxy!
This sounds amazing!!

Hmm, those synth strings sound like the ones used in Mega Man 7
Same source synth: Roland JX-10 (The L-CD1 sampling of it in this case) iirc.
The rhythm guitar sample is also the same one used in Mega Man X2, from the Roland U-110.
Amazing!!! Great work!
Can’t wait to see more from this game pop up on your channel!
Was waiting for this one to get restored!
One of the best games of all time!!
hell, *yeeeEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH* that guitar solo sounds super good
This song in conjunction with the first stage is still one of the greatest openings to a video game ever.
StarFox was one of the games I got into a lot as a kid, and would play constantly. StarFox 64 was great, but nothing will top that first moment of booting up the original, getting through the controls, the training, choosing Corneria, and hearing this song immediately start up. You knew you were in for something incredible. This, the Armada theme, the Meteor theme… seriously the entire soundtrack is full of amazing music.
this has so much more texture... oh wow...
Cleeeeeeeeeeaaaaan
hell yeah
This work of restoration is simply amazing. We've no idea how good these musics should sound until you open our ears. I don't understand why the artists or editor who create musics for video games at these times didn't try to release these uncompressed version.
Iirc the composer did (or tried to) release a cassette tape for this game but Nintendo shut that idea down. Dunno if it would have been the compressed version or something like this though
Probably requires a lot of work for something they consider done
Some of these soundtracks were intended to be heard compressed. Maybe this plays a part in that decision too
@@TheRealLumpySpirit This ended up contributing to Hajime Hirasawa leaving the games industry entirely.
I can't tell you how much I appreciate the inclusion of that spreadsheet. Thank you. Thank you so much.
upsetting to think that we probably could have got this (and so many more like it in sequels) already if they let Hirasawa release the soundtrack commercially. Anyway amazing restoration!
Now THIS is a remaster!! I can imagine Nintendo doing a Star Fox CD with all of these restored tracks
this sounds like i finally popped my ears a day or two after getting home from a cross country flight what the hell
Yoo this is sick, gj on this
Forget 4K & 'RTX' graphics, gimme a Starfox game that's built off the SNES SuperFX era and add onto it with land master tank missions
Ex Zodiac might be somewhat similar to what you're looking for. Don't expect it to be a carbon copy, but graphically, it's going for the SuperFX sort of style.
This is amazing
Incredible work!
Perfectly done.
Idk Star Fox, but I remember loving this track when I heard it in WarioWare Smooth Moves.
Regardless, this restoration is just awesome!!
Perhaps I should get into this series someday. 👀
by far is the best one
Cool and nifty remaster!
It's a good thing all of these Nintendo IPs have such dedicated fanbases to bring these musical tracks back to life. I will never understand why Nintendo doesn't just allow them to be bought outright, or even streamed from services like Spotify, Apple Music, or RUclips Music. The money and desire is there!
THIS IS AWESOME!!!!
hearing this so clearly, you can really hear that top gun influence in this track
Man I can't wait for you guys to finish the whole soundtrack. Would be amazing to add these tracks on an SNES Starfox MSU-1 mod.
This brings back childhood memories and sounds amazing at the same time. Thanks, bro! Much love from Germany. ❤
👍🏻
Me to
cant decide between this and danger zone as most epic pilot song
That bass line though 👍
Great work.
This re-built version really hits that bassline home.
FUCKING. AWESOME.
Thank you!
YOU ARE INCREDIBLE
