I'm planning on a more practical island with cottagecore elements, because I think that'll be easier for me to learn from. Maybe in the future I'll try to go all out and redesign it but for the time being I'm content with having one part of the island be the "town", and the other for things like an orchard, rock garden, flower breeding, and other miscellaneous things I want to build. Custom paths are a must though because most of the in-game ones are either too bright for my tastes or just don't look all that good in my opinion.
We seem to have a similar idea, around my plaza, it is going to be like a town, and as it gets towards the secret beach, it's going to get more woodsy.
what makes cottagecore so hard, is that i would like to have a neighborhood where all my residents are together but.. it’s cottagecore.. so it’s best if it has a natural look but god something about placing the houses sort of ‘randomly’ is so hard
I picked one stretch of road to put my houses on and put them in almost a zig zag pattern, none of them line up with a house on the other side and they're all different distances from the main road
Check out an island tour called "This TROPICAL RESORT Is The Best Yet" by Chase Crossing. She did her houses in a neighborhood structure but it still looks really nice and natural, if you replaced her wood plank path with the dirt path that everyone is using for cottagecore atm I think it would look fantastic, I modeled my neighborhoods after how she did hers.
I put all my houses on the second layer of cliffs which is all flattened out aside from a waterfall on one side and there’s a path between houses and they’re all completely symmetrical, but I have tons of flowers and 3 waterfalls and used hedges between each house, and there’s mostly cottage core items aside from a few other random ones I think suit the villagers personalities. It’s definitely not as pretty and cottagecore-esque as everyone elses, but it’s not quite so uniform either, and you can definitely make it even more full and natural if you want

I'm really struggling with the paths on my cottagecore island. At the moment it's just a dark dirt path but I've tried to mix in custom designs like leaves scattered around. Do you have any path suggestions? I know stone custom designs is one, but no matter what I try I just can't seem to make it look good.
One idea is to use the stone paths and make them swervy and lead up to the entrance of a house rather than just straight. I will mention this in my next video.
I still struggle with how to make it look good but it’s all subjective! So go with what you think looks good! But definitely have a variety of custom paths - I love using clovers, wooden paths, flowers and stone paths
Thanks so much for the ideas! I made my paths more curved and am still in the process of placing down the custom designs. I'm using a mix of planks, stepping stones, stumps, and also filling in empty spaces with a fallen leaf custom design, flowers, and small weed custom designs. :)

The easiest way for me atleast to gain more bells is to buy and sell turnips. I was able to pay my debt for the second floor in one go by selling turnips
Keep checking your turnip prices every day once in the morning and once after 12 noon. If you have a high price, you can open up your island on the turnip exchange website and people usually come to your island and leave tips behind. If you do open your island, I would gate off areas of your island that people can’t access your flowers or trees and just make a gated path to the Nook store. You’ll give the website your dodo code so there won’t be any major damage visitors can do.
dabble in turnips, i refused to try it at first but when i did, i earned enough bells to pay off my final house upgrade and move buildings and make bridges and inclines whenever i wanted to. I recommend to join an AC discord server and hope they have a channel dedicated to selling/buying turnips...if they do, look for people where their nooklings are selling for 400+, 500+ and 600+ and they do their queue on Turnips.Exchange for a more organized queue. Look out for queues with 100+ or 50+ people lining up since there's a high chance it'll end before you can enter the owner's island. It happened to me twice in one day where i waited for 5+ hours in total, i almost went crazy lmao. good thing there are other plenty of users with lesser queues but buys turnips in higher prices.
As there aren't many furniture that you displayed as a cottagecore theme, I wanna list some more I guess? Mushroom set, Pretty much any plants, portable record player, kettle, rocking chair, Books (I use lost item books too, just make sure they aren't owned by a villager you like.), The teddy bears.

i don't think you can get a different fruit from the mystery islands (except coconuts) you need to visit someone's island who has that fruit or have them bring it to you

I'd rather die than terraform, so I'm just essentially using the natural shape of my island and loading it up with trees, flowers, and decorations until you don't even notice the land itself

The only thing I have in mind when making cottagecore is just literally be messy and put random stuff that you think fits the theme and place it anywhere. And buncha flowers and terraforming
Basically to create secret areas you can use terraforming to create an area surrounded by cliffs so it feels secluded. And then use terraforming to create a narrow passage to it. In the area you can make a pond or garden or whatever you want. I will have an example with what I did in my next video which I hope to have uploaded by tomorrow or Monday.

I've had 2 other islands so far! I've reset and I'm on my third island.. But I decided to do I different type of island.. Because my other islands had more of a pastel cute suburban feel... but I really want a more abandon island type
Mushrooms are only available in the fall. So you will need to buy them from someone who has time traveled to the fall and has them. You can ask AC Facebook groups or Discord channels. I prefer Nookazon.com since sellers have reviews so I feel like it's less likely I get scammed. If you never used Nookazon before I highly recommend it. I have an older video on how to setup Discord and sign up for Nookazon on my channel.
okay, hear me out. i’ve been thinking of resetting. but, i’m scared i will regret it. i have over 140 hours and a 4 star island. i have no theme. everything is scattered. i’ve always, ALWAYS wanted a cottagecore theme. do you guys have any advise? (or should i just get rid of every to make a blank slate?)
If you want a blank slate I’d suggest to move your houses to the beach and flatten everything, plus you won’t lose your hours. You don’t have to restart your island to make it look nice though! like he said in the video, don’t get too caught up into seeing other people’s islands
Hey!! How’d you unlock that custom terraform path permit that overlaid flowers and leaves?! You mean you guys aren’t randomly dropping blocks on your grounds?!
Take your time to find the right design, and also place your custom design over a dirt path made in the island designer app so it has more natural edges and curves
i’m not sure how to describe my island theme but i’m going for a sort of underdeveloped, natural, farm-y vibe with limited terraforming. so like cottagecore but just less busy and messy? if that makes sense haha

Are there any tips for when your still early in the game? I recently reset my island to make it a Cottage core and I haven't started the mission to get KK slider to my island. Nooks cranny also isn't helping since it keeps giving me modern stuff like a water cooler and Basketball hoops😐 Edit: also when I can finally get what I need this was VERY helpful! I generally only find island tours and clothing advice for the aesthetics so it's nice to finally find tips and tricks!

I’m using a mushroom 🍄 path and a mossy rock pattern too. I add it in random spots to look more natural.

Terraforming isn't a huge deal! I drowned out my shotty terraforming with lots of decorations and I don't even notice it

Mushrooms are only available in the fall. So you will need to buy them from someone who has time traveled to the fall and has them.
You can ask AC Facebook groups or Discord channels. I prefer Nookazon.com since sellers have reviews so I feel like it's less likely I get scammed.
If you never used Nookazon before I highly recommend it. I have an older video on how to setup Discord and sign up for Nookazon on my channel.

okay, hear me out. i’ve been thinking of resetting. but, i’m scared i will regret it. i have over 140 hours and a 4 star island. i have no theme. everything is scattered. i’ve always, ALWAYS wanted a cottagecore theme. do you guys have any advise? (or should i just get rid of every to make a blank slate?)
If you want a blank slate I’d suggest to move your houses to the beach and flatten everything, plus you won’t lose your hours. You don’t have to restart your island to make it look nice though! like he said in the video, don’t get too caught up into seeing other people’s islands

Take your time to find the right design, and also place your custom design over a dirt path made in the island designer app so it has more natural edges and curves

Are there any tips for when your still early in the game? I recently reset my island to make it a Cottage core and I haven't started the mission to get KK slider to my island. Nooks cranny also isn't helping since it keeps giving me modern stuff like a water cooler and Basketball hoops😐
Edit: also when I can finally get what I need this was VERY helpful! I generally only find island tours and clothing advice for the aesthetics so it's nice to finally find tips and tricks!
