  • My 2007 Toyota Tundra went into "Limp Mode" when multiple dash warning lights came on. This is how I fixed the Air Injection Switching Valve. I also changed to air pumps as well that were located under the passenger wheel well.

    The answer (unless you live in California) to solve this once and forever is the bypass kit sold by Hewitt-Tech. I installed mine and solved my problem. Those valves are a pain in the neck if you live up north.

    Had a P2440 code and Check Engine light on my '05 Tacoma. "Secondary Air valve stuck open". Finally found a source to buy one without breaking my bank ($140) and ordered one. Meanwhile
    thinking "I wonder if I can UNstick this thing?". I pulled off the hose that runs from the
    smog pump to the valve at the valve inlet port and squirted a couple ounces of Mercury
    Quicksilver (an amazing product designed to de-gick marine engines) into it. Let it
    sit overnight, cleared codes with my ODBII gizmo and drove the truck to town and back.
    The CEL never came back on. Now I'm debating whether to keep the new valve or return/sell
    it. I can do this 30 second repair a BUNCH of times with a ten dollar can of liquid magic!
    The truck is a 2.7L 4 banger so it just has one 'bank'. I would think it may work on a
    V6 too.

    If I ever meet two of the engineers who did this truck, one is getting a hug, and the other is getting the hardest kick in the balls ever delivered by man.
    Love my '07, HATE working on it. The packaging is almost comically bad where things are located. Like today I ended up doing spark plugs. Any other vehicle with exception to the wife's car where the whole upper intake manifold had to come off never takes me more than an hour.
    '07 Tundra? Three hours! There's literally something in the way of Every Single Cylinder that has to be removed to get the coils out, and to get the plugs, you have to drop the socket in first, then chase it with the extension, then hope you can reach the b@stard without having to splay over the engine. And I'd call that easy compared to the alternator. Ugh...
    At any rate, here's to hoping it buys me a bit more time before the next backache.

      Mr.Reyam ...on mercedes benz v8s, intake manifold gasket has cylinder head pass through holes for coolant. I know because my SL m119 manifold gasket leaked and coolant went to cylinder 1. So, on some vehicle you need to drain coolant and or oil if you remove the intake mannifold. Or else it would be messy.

      @Four2NineProductions  4 года назад +1

      Knock on wood, everything is still working fine after approx 10,000 miles and over a year. The air injection value and new snorkel cover that goes on the air pumps were genuine Toyota parts. However the air pumps were off brand (Chinese) from ebay. The price made it a no brainer. No problems with them except a slight louder sound at start up but nothing major.

    • @Four2NineProductions
      @Four2NineProductions  4 года назад +1

      No, the secondary air injection valve has to do with emissions and does not affect normal engine operations. However if it errors out to the computer it will put the vehicle in "limp mode". On mine it happened like a light switch got turned on. No build up or warning.
