    I read Sammy’s book. And I didn’t really feel like he was angry at Edward. It felt more like he was hurt by someone he considered his best friend at one time and he let that hurt out on the page. Kinda like real brothers that would sacrifice their life for the other, but when they fight over hurt feelings, they really lash out at each other and say the most hurtful things they can think of. I’m just so happy they were able to reconcile with each other before Ed passed.

      Read the book as well. I don't think he trashed Ed. He just recalled how things were and moved on. Eddie's problems with alcohol was not a hidden issue. And saying that if he wrote the book today he would only say good things about him, that would mean the book was lies. An autobiography is about recounting life, good and bad. You can live with this regret just cuz he died.

    • @brians1793
      @brians1793 3 года назад +1

      That's a lot like how I am, most people don't understand how frustrating it is when you're on both extremes, and people seem to think your dark side makes you a 'fake' nice person when you can be authentic in both cases. It actually helps when people learn to embrace and accept their dark side and not be afraid of being authentic, toxic positivity usually just makes your dark side worse over the years and then it's really bad when it finally surfaces, and can lead to substance abuse which can further exacerbate it.
      It's kind of ironic how when people make you out to be fake nice when you're not just because you're not ALWAYS nice, they're usually projecting their own fake 'positivity' on you. I've always naturally been an authentic person and for the most part, genuinely a nice, generous, loyal kind of person with integrity, but growing up in a narcissistic abusive family full of people that can't stand authentic people(I pretty much epitomized everything your average narcissist can't stand, smart, good-looking, talented, ect) made otherwise great things about me a 'bad' thing, I ended up becoming both a scapegoat and invisible child as if one wasn't bad enough.
      I say I've always naturally been an authentic person, but over the years I was taught not to be, but that was beyond my will when I didn't have a lot of choice. Being authentic is easier said than done when you're the youngest in your family(by far compared to 3 brothers 8-15 years older) with a twin sister who was enabled to be abusive to you, and you can't say truth once a year without being punished every day for months on end just for saying something truthful everyone didn't like. It really takes a strong character to say it anyway. It's basically the kind of tactics the left uses.
      I think Eddie is obviously a genius and brilliant person, but with mostly a genuine good side, but is just very misunderstood. Unfortunately you can't stop people nowhere near smart enough to understand Eddie from judging.

    I'm just glad Sammy joined VH and we all got to hear some great music for another 10 years or so. There was nobody better to replace Dave than Sammy, and it could have been the end of VH in 1985. I seen both versions of the band live in the 80s and I have to say with Sammy in the band the live show was better. Sammy is a better live singer than Dave and they had an extra guitar in the show. Many people mite not realize how good Sam is on guitar, so the show sounded really great with the extra guitar imo. The show I seen in Cleveland supporting the 5150 album, Sam and Ed had a guitar battle that Sammy ends with actually bowing to Eddie (the king).
    If I remember correctly Sammy called Eddie out for the guitar duel, after Sam was defeated so to speak they both went into a killer jam that the band joined in, it was totally cool, made for a good part of the show. Yeah they sounded really great like they were just better, tighter, the whole band was on top of there game. I usually dont say this much but I'm kinda glad that Dave left the group, made for two great Van Halen bands to jam to forever. I can't say much for Gary after Sammy but I said when it happened that Gary Cherrone would not sound to great with VH and sure enuff he did not. They didn't totally suck but just not the right chemistry to continue under the VH name/band, but they only did one album, who knows maybe the next album been better and so on, lol, I doubt it but who knows. We can all as fans of Van Halen and Eddie himself be lucky to have these guys playing and making music for us all these years, even tho they had their problems they still one of the greatest bands to ever to rock out with 🎸🤘

    I think Eddie had too much to live up to while his health was failing in his 40’s and rock music was dying. Imagine having to alway innovate guitar and be the best within a band and songwriting atmosphere. There was no where to go past 1995. Me Wise Magic was a monster but beyond the comprehension of rap and alternative damaged up and coming music fans. The 2012 ADKOT album was badass but of course only die hard fans would be the ones to hear and appreciate it. Eddie peaked early and his marriage failed too. The smoking and drinking with the rock and roll cocaine lifestyle was too hard on the legend. But heck, who wouldn’t have lived the way Eddie lived if given the chance? He was at the top and that’s what goes with being at the top. Imagine seeing Eddie grow older than 65? He was always so young and vibrant and on fire. Maybe he wasn’t meant to see a scary old age. He saw it all and did it all. He lived the life of 100 men by the time he had seen 65. I always wondered if Eddie was traumatized by DLR and the issue with Sammy was when Sammy didn’t react positively to Eddie’s pushback on more control and authority of the band in 1996? He “assumed” Sammy was gonna pull a DLR move…. Singers generally have the ability to run off and be the star because the voice and face is identifiable while the instruments are not as identifiable. Sammy had a previous successful solo career before VH to fall back on. It was a much more powerful threat than DLR had. I think that played in to Eddie’s psych when the 1996 split happened. But, if VH had stayed together….there was nowhere to go but become a legendary touring act like Aerosmith, or Rolling Stones. Metallica got big in the late 80s and early to kid 90s….they weren’t as huge and mainstream at first and kept climbing up while never stopping the touring. VH peaked over and over since the late 70s to 1996. Much like Aerosmith. Things just seemed to never come back around beyond 1996 except for reunion tours. It’s sad but what a wild and successful ride. RIP EVH! The legend of of all legends.

    Sammy shouldn't be getting as much heat for writing the truth.
    What's funny is that Sammy also mentioned that when Alex & Eddie got mad@each other, they got MAD! Then, when they got to spitting & screaming mad, they would get nose to nose & start screaming in Dutch. (Come on, Alex & Eddie, totally chill smiling, humble dudes blowing up & arguing, but no one knew what they were saying.)
    Eddie was a passionate dude about music, love, his son, his charities. But, he was human. And many alcoholics, he got mean when he was drunk. So not disrespectful, just honest.
    Before everyone sends the hate replies, I LOVED EVH's playing, the love for his son & his ability to co-parent his son w/his ex wife & new spouses. I cried Oct 6 when I read Wolfgang's post about his dad's death. So, I AM NOT judging, & am a huge VH fan!

    When Van Halen first came out myself like so many others about crapped our pants. What do we do now, burn our guitars or copy this guy. Well it turns out that learn some if his stuff and use it to your advantage and make it yours because of the way you used was the right answer. He taught us all something about different ways to approach the instrument just like Berry did, Clapton did, Hendrix did and so many others. You can't perform to the public and expect that nobody is going to learn that because you are showing them. I personally thought that Van Halen concerts were much better with the Sammy version. Both versions were great of course and the first incarnation that we all had seen was with Roth and it certainly floored us. who would have known if could get even better. For the purists out there. You can blame Roth for that. He was the one that walked away. As the saying goes, a closed door for one is an open door for another. Then life goes on.
