Does everybody realize how blessed we were to see Van Halen since the 70's ? Wow
Did we really though? There were A LOT of years of inactivity and wasted opportunities in there...
Also deep purple pink Floyd black Sabbath dio the list goes on
Indeed..I’ve seen them 3 times; once with Sammy and twice with Dave.
Got to see them in 1979 the first time. We were all youngsters.
Another 10 years VH will be touring as holograms.
I saw Van Halen in 1982, 1984, 1986 & 2004. Twice with Roth, twice with Hagar. EVH will forever be my guitar god. Let the man rest in peace and let Wolfie get on with his own life & career. Losing your father is tough enough without everybody with a microphone asking you about a tribute to your dad. Van Halen's legacy is set in stone. We have the memories of going to the concerts and buying the albums. That is more than enough for me. Peace.
Don't worry about "Wolfie". He can have any "career" his daddy's money can buy.
I first saw VH in 78, also in 82, 84, sometime in the 90's and early 2000's. I liked the Hagar years better than the Roth years.
I seen every show you speak of and then some. Yes yes and yes !!!
Saw them in 84', 86, and 93'. The Feb 93 show in Bham, Al was disappointing. Ed was noticeably in a bad spot and not feeling it that night I guess? Luckily, the rest of the band in particular Mike and Sammy brought enough energy to semi fill the void.
@@markrobertdevison1227 wow. You seen the 78 tour. I’m Jealous!! Must of been in Cali ? And you think Sammy was better. That’s a rare statement. I’ve seen both many of times. Even the Roth , Sammy show they toured on. But my 82 Fairwarning tour was a Top 5 show of all time for me. Having 2 row in front of Eddie didn’t hurt. But I was blown away at that show. David was on fire then. And for me to work a 100 shows or better. And seen Around 200 more. That says a lot about that show. And I’ve seen a lot of greats !!! Interesting quote. Just glad you got to see greatness. That 78 show had to be great tho
I have a Van Halen Tribute everyday!
same here
Same here my friend
Yes ! great answer
Perfectly said 🤘🏽
Hagar has a lot of class.
Sammy also has a lot of class to say that a tribute needs to have David Lee Roth included as well.
Respect.
Was the book and the dirt on Ed a class act. Sammy broke the code. Period.
Hagar is the opposite of class,it’s over for him as well as DLR.
From a great gig with Ronnie Montrose he left went solo did ok not great as a solo artist then found his calling in 86 with 5150 and it energized the band for a couple records but it got tired and boring and Sammy claims he was fired and I can believe that because Eddy thought he WAS the band and singers didn’t matter until VHIII and Gary Cherone
Once that bombed they brought Sammy back but Michael Anthony had to give up his publishing and royalties in order to be a part of the 2004 tour where Eddy’s drug use ruined his artistic ideas and they hit the road a mess and from all I’ve read and heard that was that, and Eddy finally hit rehab and got his feces coagulated and came out clean and I saw them in 2012 and they sounded great,it’s just sad now everyone wanting a piece of Eddy now that he’s gone.
Just let it go!
I am just glad VanHalen as a whole career gave us some unforgettable and deeply impactfull music. The background of our youth. We are very blessed to have enjoyed their talents.
We need a Van Halen tribute now like a fish needs a bicycle. Eddie's body of work, invention, and legacy are sealed.
Exactly.
Yeah, I'm so over the "tribute show" thing.
Agreed.
I agree
It’s like people are so pathetic and desperately need a reason to exist.
All to just to pat themselves on the back.
With wolf van will live on forevermore every time I here his and dadsplaying.
Honestly, Wolf's participation in Taylor's tribute, showing us all that he CAN play his dad's songs note for note, with the same feel, and with THAT smile on his face, was the only tribute we needed. The legacy is there, and that one performance is the single thing Eddie would be the most proud about, more than any star-filled 3 hour tribute. And I'm sure his dad would be also proud that he chose to follow his own path.
For me, as a 65 yr old hard rock guitarist, we are not likely to see another Edward Van Halen. His loss, to me, is immeasurable. He represents a complete paradigm shift in how the instrument is played. Artists like that just don't come along very often. I would rank him higher even than Hendrix as far as his innovation and inventiveness. His fingerprints are all over modern music. His influence on other musicians reaches past the horizon. He died much too young. The loss still stings a little. RIP Edward Van Halen, for you have surely earned it.
I'm 59, and I still remember to this day when their first album was released and eruption blew everybody's mind and musicians still talk about it today there are many great guitar players, but he set the bar so high I doubt anyone can go higher. I wish that people could put aside their differences to pay tribute to the greatest guitar player we know.
In 1978, my bass player managed a record shop in Houston, Texas. One night he dropped a needle on the first VH album. I was blown away. Remember it like it was yesterday.
Ditto bro. I'm a 55 yo axe chopper. EVH changed the music world way more than Hendrix did.
Other than Robin Trower nobody really tried to copy Jimi. When Ed came into the scene every single guitar player went crazy to copy his style. Myself included.
Seems that all my heroes have passed away in the past 10 years. God save Gilmour.
Both my faves: EVH & SRV are gone
At 69 and 59 on the axe ..Eddie was it....close the book....best explorative guitarist we ever had....im sorry ego has to wreck people,it should always be the music and the fans....man be thankful that you/he were able to achieve a point of music history, that Tesla did, that Ben Franklin amongst others. There will never be another Eddie..ever.
It just seems like both Eddie and Alex had a hard time getting along with a lot of people. The band had 3 different singers overall. The band is done, and it's time to let it go. Their legacy is set.
Actually, 4 singers. Try to Google it. It's an interesting story.
@@vezna31 yeah. That Mitch guy that sings ( very poorly ) for Great White.
The brothers were tight but pretty much insufferable to everyone else.
Sammy gets along with most people. Alex is envious,IMO.
Tell wimpy Sammy that. He’s the one crying still and talking shit. Van Halen want nothing to do with him. He just don’t get it
I saw them in 1978 they blew everyone away best ever ❤
Hey Sammy just incase you or the rest of the band members may come across this. I saw you guys 3 times in the nineties. I grew up as a little kid wanting to be as talented as Eddie on guitar. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the great music and personal memories.
Thanks man
As a huge VH fan of DLR yrs that's basically my favorite Rock band. I personally don't need the closure. I seen it live 4x. Twice with Dave, twice with Sam. It's over, I get it.
Some morons can't take a hint that they're Aholes and stop acting like ex-wife #2 .....STILL
@@akfreed6949 calm down bro. It's over. VH is done.
@@teddynugent2463 I will when ex-wife #2 Bitch Hagar shuts her piehole
🎯
Exactly.
Let it go Trunk … Wolfie already killed 2 birds with 1 stone … the kid made pops and Taylor proud
Fact
Eddie Trunk just wants to get his buddy Sammy a pay day.
Rock and Roll in the end is a business and the music just gets us there. And the crowd screams Amen, now pass the plate it's what we came for
I saw them in 1979 at the Cape cod coliseum and they blew my mind!!! Best band ever.
Wonderful acoustics 🤣🤣I loved that place tho
I was there with you they open for Black Sabbath
@@atticusfinch3931 Not that it really matters, but for the record that was 1978. I had an uncle that went to that show, and he was absolutely amazed.
@@alspencer3826 ok if it doesn’t matter why did you mention it , don’t be that guy who’s only mission in life is to correct everyone . You’ll find that no one wants to be around you
I would love to see Alex and Mike and Sammy and Wolfy go on tour.
Noo. WOLFIE is pure Vanhalen . Doesn't need Sammys addition.
Wolf is a living Tribute to his Dad in everything he does... A Tribute would be Cool but if it's going to divide people even more just let it be, It doesn't have to be planned out, Just start a Tribute show and play with whoever shows up! Less Dramatic.... Organic! Just do it...
There should be no tribute or anything, Eddie was an amazing musician and his music lives on only because of his talent and musicianship. let this whole thing rest and let the Van halen legacy rest with Wolfie. I'm totally pleased with what Alex and Wolfies decisions are. If there is no answer then so be it. We need to stop trying to want a tribute and just be happy to know that Van Halen was the greatest band around. Eddie Rocks!!!!!
You hear tributes to EVH all the time. Listen to really good guitar players.
I've known of Sammy from the first days of Montrose . It's never going to be the same. Live an let live. .
Never bought any Van Hager stufff but liked some tunes.
Sammy, fan since Montrose in '73.
Well spoken here.
Van halen, we're amazing with Sammy Hagar !!,
Alex might just be thinking "it's not VH without Eddie". That's understandable.
You might be right. I mean, he might not want to see anybody else up there other than his brother.
And he would be correct .
Then why recruit Newsted and Satriani? The only people that can pull off this tribute are Alex, Michael, Dave, Sammy, Wolf and maybe even Gary playing as a unit! A one-off appearance and then let it rest!
Plus, I’ll bet the realities of aging are are really hitting him now more than ever might have before. Like a second midlife crisis. He’s probably experiencing depression, anxiety, regret… all kinds of unpleasant emotions that would take precedence over reapplying a defibrillator to bring something back to life that’s been dead already… let the maggots have it
I can’t imagine being him and trying to go on stage without my little brother and try to perform how could he enjoy that stay frosty Al fuckm
Sometimes you just have to leave things alone. Van Halen has met it’s ending but will never be forgotten. Eddie absolutely deserves a tribute to what he brought to music but heh let’s admit that things don’t always turn out how we want in life.
So Sad Life is Way to Short...for the Love of God Somebody please get the ball rolling...Eddie Van Halen has left us his musical legacy. It would be a great thing to see a well coordinated tribute show with All the members of Van Halen! 🤘🏻🎸😎
Alex, if you ever read this, I want you to know that the fans are still mourning with you. I cried the day your brother died. A one-night-only celebration of the music of Van Halen might help us all heal a bit, together. The fans are still here and we still love Van Halen. That did not end when Ed passed!
Can we please just let this go now? It's been too long since Edward's passing (two full years now). To me, the window of appropriateness, paying tribute and respect has closed. It doesn't really matter who, how or why it didn't happen.
That window of opportunity does seem to be closing more and more.
Especially because everyone is getting older, and not in a "they could die too kind of way" but a "I just want to chill and enjoy my family/own business alone with the money I made, cause I'm tired and don't feel like putting up with the spotlight" way, at least for Alex. Like Sammy and Mike are still actively playing, but Alex is reclusive and seems to just want to live his life alone and process his brother's death now
I agree it’s been 2 Years Way too long it should’ve been done within 1-year
Foo fighter’s done their trib Perfect 😞
I went to see Phil Collins on his last tour. I wish I didn’t. It made me feel old as hell. Sometimes you can’t turn back time . My Van Halen is best kept in my head with a cassette or CD playing in the background.
As close as Al and Eddie were it's hard to muster up the energy to pull something off close to the caliber that it deserves
Yes
Agree
Great Interview!! Haven't listened to Eddie Trunk before...Love Sammy and his Opened Air Voice and opinion on EVH and VH
Always been a Sammy fan as well as VH, was lucky enough to see Sammy shortly after the Van Hagar split and if you closed your eyes you wouldn't had known it wasn't a van hagar show , Sammy's definitely a better guitarist/ artist then Joan Jett 😂 and montrose was hard rock at its best ..
Sammy is the a true gentlemen. True professional a true rockstar
Maybe that's because Alex became such a huge fan of his book "Red"
The truth hurts...
@@MrStudGuy First time I’ve heard anyone bold enough to say this. Man I often got a fake vibe from Sammy on a lot of his claims, but especially the “we made up” just before Ed passed. I don’t buy it either, it seemed out of guilt and inauthentic, sadly. For his sake, I hope they did.
@@ultragroove1 Ive heed ppl say it alot..sammy shut up and let Ed rest..the guy is nothing but drama
@@MrStudGuyVH’s debut record and 1984 combined ALONE outsold the entire Van Hagar era, what a joke spammy is 😂
Was lucky enough to be 13 when 1984 came out. We jammed JUMP every morning at our junior high school busstop and that record was my second major rock and roll concert at Hampton Coliseum (Aerosmith and Tex Nugent were my first).
Sammy is an all around cool Dude, who wouldn't want to hang out with him...
Alex and Wolf need to get a tribute going, invite Sam, Mike, and Roth. Whoever shows up shows up. Have Justin Hawkins on standby if a singer doesn’t show up. One last show to properly honor Eddie Van Halen.
I love Van Halen, it’s engraved in my dna somehow, my only problem with a tribute is: nobody can play like Eddie Van Halen.
I think a half million guitar players at this point in time can mimic Edward and duplicate his sound on specific licks or tracks.
However, I think only one man could play like Ed if he chose to and his name is Wolfgang.
No one else on Earth has sat and watched the rhythm, tendencies, thought pattern, frustrations, invention, design, wizardry, hand and fret board movement, and philosophy like Wolfgang Van Halen. I believe even more so than Alex.
Only in his 20's, Wolfgang already possesses the incredible ability, technique, and technical excellence that a small percentage of guitarists ever achieve.
I’m a huge VH fan but I don’t care about any kind of tribute show. IMO the best way to honor their legacy is a remix/remaster of every album (even VH III), unreleased tracks from the vault and live recordings/dvds from every tour.
Can't imagine how cool this show would be, think of the all the great guitar players that would love to do this.
Well said Sammy .
Man.. it was sooooo good in this interview to see Sammy's heart... ❤️ jessenashvillejames 👍
He waxes poetic on being this honest person, but sales don’t lie, from Guitar World: Roth absolutely wins the Van Halen commerce battle with 57 million sales worldwide to Hagar's 27 million worldwide sales.
So adding another 20 million in sales is a nice bit of revisionist history on his part to say the least.
Good on Alex, he doesn’t have to prove anything to anyone. If you weren’t fortunate enough to catch Van Halen when they were active it’s your loss. I didn’t catch The Doors either.
You act as though Eddie had nothing to do with it but he was in complete control. It’s not a Roth vs. Hagar thing and it never has been. Roth left because Eddie wanted to completely change the sound of the band and the music they were making. He found the perfect frontman for the new sound in Hagar. So the change is on Eddie and the sales are on Eddie. And Hagar has always been an honest, stand up guy. The same can’t be said for Eddie and Alex, two talented guys who were only ever loyal to themselves and who would stab their own band members in the back at the drop of a dime.
@@prowlprime Sammy isn't a saint there's a few people who have been screwed over by him that everyone likes to forget. Alex and Eddie weren't angels, and certainly did awful things to Mikey, but it's never just one person. Idk why people like to roll over and portray Dave and Sammy as innocent
As a fan it's a big shame to see a group of guys who were so successful for so long end up like this ! Good luck Sammy, Mike you two have been the bomb. 👋
Yeah, it’s kinda sad that the egos can’t be set aside for one night, to put on a tribute to the music that was made, embraced by fans, and was the result of dedication, hard work ethic, & incredible raw talent that was EVH. Sammy seems to understand that it’s what is most important, and would be involved in putting something like that together with the others who’ve already made attempts to organize it. Obviously, Wolfgang should be consulted for a thumbs up, and included in the celebration. Unfortunately, for reasons that none of us are privy to, or would understand, it seems like Alex and/or Dave can’t put their creative differences, jealousy, and with DLR, an inflated sense of self-worth aside, and put on a tribute for the fans. If they wait too long, they’ll lose that opportunity, if they haven’t already done so.
If it doesn't happen, it would be a shame, but so be it. That Sammy and Ed made peace gives me solace.
Long Live Edward Van Halen.
So says Scammy
Years ago I met Eddie at a meeting ..he was really chill and talked and laughed for a couple minutes like anyone might..
Always liked Van Halen, didn't love em until Sammy joined, something about Eddie's playing on 5150 and even more on OU812 was just magical, it hit me right in the heart, still does! Sammy's vocals were the icing on the cake!
I thought Al loved playing music live.
Even if he doesn't do this, I wish he'd do a drumming clinic and record it. Talk about drums, how he came up with his sound, why he plays like he does etc.
We never got that from Bonham.
Absolutely, I pray for the same thing. He’s very smart and an educated musician. Would be great .
I think he does, but he never really played with anyone other than Eddie. Eddie had made guest appearances at other stages, but not Al. He might find it hard to get back on stage without Eddie, it's like trying to play without your arm.
But I do too, honestly I hope he has a memoir or something, but that doesn't seem to be Alex's style...I still hope though
@@Starburst514
Here's hoping he can do something in the future. 🙏
I’ve always loved drums. I’m 52 and Al has always been one of my favorite drummers. I just can’t imagine how its been loosing Eddie for him.
EVH definitely deserves a tribute concert. I hope all in involved in the VH camp can look past whatever BS and pay tribute to one of the greatest guitarists and band in R&R history.
Let's just be happy that there was a Van Halen.
I absolutely love Sammy Hagar. He's such a genuine guy.
LMAO!
What?
You obviously never read his bio where he slagged Ed.
The dude has always been about: Sam.
Hes corny
Actually this is not true
@@cornstar1253He is SOOOO corny. Sure he has some pipes...but like Mariah Carey...she may have an amazing voice...but I dont want to hear either of them speak or sing another note.
He is but he gets waaaay too much of a pass from fans and critics because hes a passive take it as it come guy which just means he usually pushing shit off on someone else.
Before I write this I have to say Van Halen will always be my favorite band. I’ve seen them 20 times through the years. My son is named after them (Halen). A fitting tribute for this band is turmoil, verbal wars, and bad blood. That’s what tore this band apart along with Roth’s ego. Us fans were robbed of music bc of different lead singer’s and inner band fighting. Ed and Al treated M. Anthony bad. Since 1995 two studio albums and a best of. I know you have to throw Ed’s health in there. Every band has problems but Van Halen’s problems were at a another level. Hopefully Wolfie will unlock the Van Halen vault someday and let us hear some unreleased material. Hopefully. I miss you Ed. 🎸☝🏽😔
It’s heartbreaking that this has not come together for the greatest guitar player ever!!!! It just feels so not normal that Eddie is gone ! Times where I just don’t want to believe it , but I know it’s reality ! I just miss that rockin and wild band not making albums and not out on the road! I’ll celebrate you forever Eddie in playing your music and having the posters on the walls! Space ace Ron⚡️⚡️⚡️
The mans music he left behind is the tribute. No one is replacing him...i would just leave it up to wolfie michael alex david and sammy to figure it out if they wanted to do something. I am cool either way with their decision its not the fans decision on this.
There shouldn't be a cheap "tribute" show for Eddie Van Halen. Eddie was in music for the love of doing the music, not for the publicity from it. He was always 100 percent focused on the process of making music, just like his brother and Dave. That's where they cut their stone. Playing all the time and bootstrapping themselves to greatness. They didn't come from a publicity, sell themselves to a manager background. These "tribute" shows are just a way for these guys to exploit a band members death for money.
The Circle with Sammy Hagar is a great GREAT show! If you have a chance go see them. You will have the time of your life. I promise.
People that hold bitterness will never be ready.
Eddie deserves some kind of send off - sad that that things don’t line up to have a tribute send off but until then I’ve seen every tour since ‘81 WDFA all the way through till’ their last tour in 2015 including the Us Festival - such great memories
Alex refuses to play with Sammy.
Tributes are lame AF
@ Trav Zimmerman I agree to disagree and I’m sure Dave Grohl disagrees with you as well …. And all the people who attended “ tribute “ send off for Taylor Hawkins would disagree as well
We all know Eddie deserves a tribute. IMO Eddie would say if you want me have a tribute Wolfgang is already doing it now because he’s blazing a trail and kicking ass. RIP EVH ✌🏻♥️ r&r
Al doesn’t owe anybody a damn thing.
Yeah, that time has LONG passed to do a tribute show for Edward. But Wolf certainly paid tribute to his pop on both Taylor Hawkins tributes and does every time he plays his own music. Rest in peace, Edward. You are sorely missed!
Rock band = more intense than any relationship.
Truth.
SO SHWEEEETTT...much love Tee with LIONS NAMED LEO.[the music worldwide}
and oo wee cool talks..!! LOVE YOU ALL.!
Great editing.
Sinners swing and aftershock that says it all
From what I've heard Alex is not really interested in playing without his brother.....I totally understand that.
When you get to that legend level and have financial security there is no reason to play any gig you don't want to play.
People always talk about what an ass axl rose can be.....well he really doesn't HAVE to do anything. Stephen Stills said "I don't do things that don't make me smile...."
His little brother passed away, maybe he needs more time. Its cool take as much time as you need Al. If it happens thats awesome, if not thats awesome to because we had them when they were the greatest.
Van Halen set it's legacy in stone let us just enjoy what music they put out there for the fans there will never be another van Halen so R.I.H Eddie and let's just keep the music alive which it will never die .
I saw them in 1995 and David in 1986,fabulous but it's over for me,Without Ed,no VH
Hard to imagine what Alex feels losing Ed on top of being stubborn as Sammy describes. He might have lost a lot of motivation to even play drums without Ed around
I agree. I mean stubbornness aside, just with how close they were, and the fact Al never really played or collaborated with anyone unless Eddie also was; he probably feels like a part of his own sound and soul died with him.
I think that’s what people are missing. Maybe Alex just doesn’t want to get up there without Eddie.
It’s got to be really really hard for Alex he not only lost a band member he lost his BROTHER people seem to forget that losing a family member hurts so bad I don’t care who you are you lose a mother a father a sister brother it hurts really bad you have to experience a death to really understand it so yeah I can understand Alex not wanting to play he lost his brother
@@kathys1285 especially one that you became even closer to because you went through something together. Not just coming to the US and not speaking English, but bullying, their parents dysfunction, etc. Stuff like that can make siblings stick extremely close together and be each other's raft. I remember an interview with Eddie from '83 or 5 where he was talking about Al's first divorce and he got tears in his eyes saying he wished he could absorb his pain so Alex wouldn't have to deal with it.
Honestly he just lost his brother even though it was like a year ago sometimes we all grieve differently and Sammy should respect that
Over two years ago.
Over two years ago, but yeah. I mean Mike was interviewed earlier this year and said he and ex have talked every few months to catch up and Alex is still very much hurting and grieving
Reminds me when Valarie said she believes everyone has more than one soulmate; Eddie and Alex were soulmates, they had been through aot of stuff together; coming to a country where they were discriminated and bullied for being foreign (and tbh being multiracial too must have had something to do with it) thier parents fighting, thier dad's alcoholism, etc. that was why they were so close, for better or worse.
Alex probably feels like a part of himself died, he's also never played with anyone but Eddie. He's gonna have a hard time before he ever feels like he can
That is exactly why we went to see them in Connecticut when they came to Bridgeport!!, And let me tell you something,it was a fucking awesome show!! Some friends and I we’re sitting around the fire drinking some beers and we were all talking about how there will be no more great music coming from Edward Van Halen!!, We all grew up on VanHalen and they are absolutely the number one fucking band around Eddie is the greatest guitar player ever!! so if they did a tribute night concert I would absolutely go no matter where it is ,So if Alex has a stick up his ass he needs to pull it out get over it and salute his brother and his band!!.,
Greetings from Jundiaí, Brazil 🙏🙏🙏
I was in the United States back in 2010 during my 2-month student exchange program in Springfield, Illinois.
During that time, I met a gentleman who worked as a security guard for the band during their 2004 tour. He told me terrible stories about what happened behind the scenes.
According to him, there was always a bunch of rifts, strife, verbal altercations, fights, threats and too much confusion during that whole tour. He said it seemed like a battlefield, a warzone and he thought that a tragedy was about to start.
In order to try to diminish the war zone, Eddie & Alex + Sammy & Mike had to sleep in different hotels, be chartered by different vans, travel on separate flights, their meals at different restaurants, dress up in different dressing rooms and get on and off stage from different sides and when their apart was unavoidable, Eddie & Alex just spoke in dutch ir order to ignore Sammy & Mike.
That's very sad to know that.
Both the surviving Van Halen's and Dave are still very close. You would know that if you listened to Rogan.
If they don't feel the need to "do a show" for Eddie, then Ican respect that decision. If Hagar can't, then it's not about Edward, it's about Hagar.
Sam wants to have a tribute so he can publicize himself and tell everybody "how heartbroken I am and how much Ed and I made up near the end and were gonna make some noise." He just wants the credit for being humble and "cool" or whatever. Except people who are actually like that don't go around talking like that. The guy's an opportunist, that's all. Everything is an opportunity for him to elevate himself. He's showing his true colors.
Really Ive listened to this twice and I dont hear that slant at all from Sammy.
I have always been before and after Van Halen a HUGE Sammy Hagar fan. When Sammy joined Van Halen and I heard "Why Can't This Be Love" the first time on the radio I actually jumped out of bed while I was having sex just to listen to what I thought at the time was THE greatest collaboration of 2 world's meshing together. There will never be a beautiful sound as that night I heard that band together and I have to disagree with most of the comments. I really think Al owes it to his brother, his nephew, his family, his friends and more importantly the fans that made him and his brother the icons that will forever be imbedded in our lives. I think it's rather selfish that for 1 night, just 1 night he can't swallow his pride for whatever reason to say I love you Eddie, this is for you.
We need a van Halen tribute show on VH1
WVH is a musical force unto himself.
Why trust Sammy with anything personal or important? He'd just tell everyone
Sammy’s Right!!!! Wolfie is carrying the torch for the VH legacy now!!!!!!
As for Alex, he lost his brother so it’s understandable where he’s coming from!!!!!:/
I really really HOPE that they do a tribute thing to honor Eddie!!!!!
As for Diamond Dave……..Love him!!!!! But SAMMY and Dave are like Oil and Water!!!!!!:/:/
well written agree totally
Closets thing was Taylor Hawkins tribute when WVH played cpl VH tunes.
I'm good....RIP VH.
Sammy your a good guy thank you for all you do do rock on
No disrespect to Taylor but it is a damn shame that EVH, one of the most influential musicians of modern music, hasn't had a tribute, whereas a relatively less impactful drummer had an amazingly executed and heartfelt tribute within a matter of months of passing away.
He barely got a mention at the Grammys the year he died too
I feel like VH is a band that's been followed by "curses" like something has to even out how great they are, like from the drama, infighting, to often being lost in the shuffle, setting a trend then being trampled by the copiers, having amazing music but only one song making it number 1, etc.
It's weird
Last time I checked this is still a free country and alix doesn't have to talk to anyone he doesn't want to
👍
"....it's one side of the deal, y'know! I'll sing my songs!" . The three (completely separate) friends of mine that have actually met Sammy (After gigs) have all said he is the warmest, most appreciative and "normal guy/star" any of them had ever met! It's a shame how things have turned out with VH.
We have had the reunion tour, the Sam and Dave tour, the mini tribute at the Taylor Hawkins tribute show.we’ve got decades of music and memories as their legacy, and as a bonus we have the chance to watch his gifted son Wolfgang become his own artist.
That’s tribute enough in my opinion, kick back, set the volume on 11 and fire one up. That’s the only tribute we need now.
I think they should compromise and do a Friday night show with Diamond Dave doin the classics and Saturday night show doin the VanHagar years with Sammy,,,and so no pressure on Wolfgang,,he hand picks the guitarists for each of the tunes....
So Gary sings on Sunday?😂
@@Jimboishere11 um....we werent gonna pick him up
The Van Halen brothers had a strange and difficult upbringing. Coming to America and not speaking English, and only having each other for friends at first, that’s definitely part of it. Also, their mother was supposedly mentally ill, somewhat. She was a bit negative and paranoid with them, which I think-combined with Roth being a control freak-made them very distrustful of others. Certainly Dave left them wanting to take over their own band when he left, which also lead to distrust of others. And while I love Ed and Al, they certainly fucked over Michael Anthony as well as ex-manager Noel Monk.
Well said Eddie
Eddy will always be a virtuoso in my book man and Alex had huge influence on my life my and my drumming it was magic and the brothers knew that
Alex in my opinion, maybe still Having a hard time with Eddies passing on right no kidding,In my opinion this Rock and Roll phenomena is nothing comparing to the love he lives with loosing Eddie in the process
A Tribute would be cool to celebrate the music with all members of the band in memory of EVH
It’s amazing they had bands as long as they did twos company especially brothers and threes a crowd
I don't know what the problem is but everyone needs to swallow their pride and do the tribute to Eddie he deserves it you all need time to heal however long it takes but get your assess together and do it for the fans that is who made you who you are and let Eddie's legacy live on forever
The only people that Al and Ed really got along with were themselves and Wolf. Wired that way. Not a good or bad thing. Just is.
Kinda sad how it all came to an end and that there’s still tension after all these years but I’m just glad it happened man that’s the only peace I need, it happened. RIP Eddie.
sammy didn't steal anthony from vh, eddie had already decided to ax anthony.
and eddie allowed himself to be swayed by some new manager telling him that
sammy was leading van halen, eddie fell for that. it goes without saying that
eddie and alex did not want to lead the band nor make decisions and that's why
it seemed that sammy was their leader. sammy has a head for business and he took
the steps to keep halen relevant after roth departed. i think that that's what alex is
upset at not to mention that sammy offered the group a piece of the cabo cantina
in the beginning and they turned it down.....OH WELL!!! alex and dave both need
to grow up and suck it up and put together the best damn tribute concert ever.
i guarantee that if they do that, wolf would gladly be a part of that.
You need to come write for us, amazingly put and we agree 100%
VH went to 💩 once Eddie took over. 20 years and all we got was VH III, and A Different Kind of Truth. Oh, I almost forgot, 2 greatest hits albums.
@BACKSTAGE PASS ROCK-NEWS Perhaps, but PLEASE insist names are to be capitalized.
This whole drama reminds me what happened to Led Zeppelin after Bonzo passed this need to put the band back together for the fans, VH music will live on across America and the world there is no need to slap together what remains of VH
Ya know... as much respect, time and life I've spent listening to, breathing in, absorbing and talking about Van Halen since I was 10 years old, (I'm now 48), I feel I have a right to voice my opinion;
First, there are no words to describe the level of impact Eddie and Alex's music had on me as a teenager, a young man and on into adulthood. I've always been in wonder of their musicianship, synergy, originality, vibe, tone and groove. Van Halen was truly one of a kind. There will never be Van Halen again without Eddie, and everyone knows that.
Whoever wants to do a musical tribute in honor of him, should feel free to do that. Whoever doesn't want to take part in it even if that's Alex Van Halen himself, or Wolfgang, they have a right to disengage in that respect, for whatever reasons they have. I'm sure they honor Eddie's memory in their own special way. I respect Alex as much as any musician for his great ability, musicianship and creativity. The bond he and Ed shared from childhood was unbreakable. I'm sure he has been devastated by the loss of his brother. It seems they were closer than most siblings; sharing a special bond and connection that went beyond mere human blood and lineage. I have sincerely doubted since hearing of Edwards passing over 2 years ago now that Alex would ever play again publicly. It may not so much be Alex "having a stick up his ass" about Sammy as much as he is just broken from the loss of his brother and can't imagine ever playing out again without him. Of course I could be wrong, but that's the sense I get. I just wish Alex cared enough to reach out to Sam and Mike who clearly have a desire to have a meaningful relationship with him. Especially after the soulful creative process and resulting, epic music they shared in the past. Sammy and Mike value and love him... it's hard to understand. Those of us who grew up basically idolizing these guys wish that they could at least be friends. Clearly that's the way Eddie wanted it in the end. You would think Alex would also want to reach out to Sam (and Mike) to recultivate that relationship that Ed proved he himself valued in the end.
These guys were always my favorites, mostly with Sammy, and it's just kinda sad. Rest in peace Eddie,... and may Alex, Wolfgang, Sam and Mike also have peace and satisfaction with their relationships in life.
I get this.....but no one knows what actually really happened except for the 4 of them. Im sure mike keeps some what quiet because he's still making a paycheck with hagar. Bottom line is relationships end. I have had multiple people Ive know for my entire life walk out on me. And vice versa. It happens.
For what it's worth in an interview Mike gave earlier this year he said he is in contact with Alex. He said they talk on the phone every few weeks or months and reminisce about the old days, and talk about their families, etc. He said Alex might rant a bit about "what happens with Eddie" which...could be anything, he didn't say what that means so it could have meant the cancer, could have meant anything. But he said he's still very much hurting, but he and Alex do talk to each other.
I think it would do every member of Van Halen; their family, fans and industry to have a tribute show so we can all have closure on Eddie’s monumental legacy. 💀🔥🎸
Ok, Hopefully I'm not the only one here that requests this, but this channel NEEDS to do a video focusing on the loss of one of the GREATEST Rock N Roll singers of ALL TIME!!!! Dan McCafferty from the band Nazareth Passed away 5 days ago on November 8th 2022, and I'm barely hearing jack shit about it, except from some of the die hard fans. Now hopefully what's taking so long for you guys to report on this, is that you are gathering all your information on this LEGENDARY vocalist, to present us with an OVER THE TOP video about about how much of an impact this man had on shaping the metal vocalists of today. He had the power and the soul in his singing to raise the fucking dead!!! Put to rest all of this bickering about a Van Halen reunion. Get over it! Ain't gonna happen folks! So, let's talk about a man that helped influence and shape a genre of music called METAL!!! Dan McCafferty put to shame so many singers from the 70's to present day. Axl Rose worshipped this man and you can hear the influence in his vocal style. And, he's not the only one who recognized Dan's INCREDIBLE balls out, raspy voice, that so many singers would sell their soul to possess!! So, I'm gonna give you guys a little bit more time to get all your little duckies in a row to prepare and report on one of THE MOST INFLUENTIAL SINGERS, that has ever walked this earth!! And, It'd better be good!!!
@@briandavis2885I take it that you’re not a fan, and that’s fine. But Dan had an incredibly powerful voice that had a major impact on metal singers. Not sure what your point is about Axl not being able to sing anymore. Many singers, Axl Rose, Sebastian Bach, Brian Johnson, Rob Halford, Bruce Dickinson, Ian Gillan, Robert Plant, AND the list goes on! All of them, including Dan, cannot match the vocal abilities they had back in their heyday. Does that mean they are not relevant, because they can’t sing anymore? All singers will eventually struggle to sing and perform like they used to. My point is, that Dan McCafferty deserves to be remembered and celebrated, just like all the rest should be as well.
Dude, this is a Van Halen page. Take your beef over to a Nazareth page. Sheesh! 😡
@@billygreenville59 it’s not my beef. I was just replying to the idiot that posted about Nazareth on here. I totally agree with you.
@@billygreenville59 this is a music channel, not just for Van Halen.
Something like the Foo Fighters tribute would a great event and we all hope it happens.
Al one of the badesst drummers in rock one of the badesst drum solis of all time
Sammy said it himself to play a show would be fine but no tour or anything….wow how things have changed, his best of Sammy’s world tour!!!
I love Sammy and all, but you can’t write a book that goes into detail about Al’s alcoholism and former financial problems without his consent and then expect him to talkto you. That part of your book wasn’t your story to tell. Maybe he feels betrayed by that.
And by writing about Eddie's addiction too. Like even if "everyone could see it, I didn't write about something that was a secret" like Sammy said, it's like...dude. I can't say I wouldn't be like Al and possibly find that unforgivable, even if Eddie did in the end, I can't blame Alex really
I was lucky enough to see VH in 81 and then again @ Monsters of Rock (late 80s) and then in 92. Both versions were awesome, but Sam NEVER forgot any words...👀👀
So what? 😂
Al and I are both Tauruses! We'll always have all those legendary years and all that classic music to look back on in remastered editions, future Atmos remixes, etc.!
