He truly is! The whole band is. After the band stood for a couple of hours of 100 meet and greet photos, they had to encounter me 😅 the last person on line. My phones flash wouldn't behave and we had to take the pic over and over. They were so patient. Nuno graciously signed a pic I had printed of him and Malala from the Nobel Ceremony where he performed with Steven Tyler. I mentioned that I had a distant relative who was a Nobel Laureate and Gary engaged me in conversation about him. He knew exactly who he was and asked some pretty specific questions about him. That got the attention of the other guys.
Gary is very thoughtful and insightful and that comes through in his writing.

@WS6 1997 yes, true. But the vast majority of VH fans totally overlooked this album, simply because it wasn’t like anything they’d done before, which is sad, because there are some great songs on here, and Eddie had some amazing tones, and playing on this album. “Different stuff”, yes, but that doesn’t mean it was bad. Severely underrated VH album, IMO. *for the record, my favorite VH album is II.

I was really looking forward to VHIII being a huge Extreme and VH fan. The problem I had is it didn't sound like a Van Halen record. The music didn't have that poppy, edgy and catchy sound you would expect from VH. The vocals sounded mushy??? No great hooks (an Eddie signature) I do not blame Gary for that record. Nothing leaves 5150 Studios without EVH's stamp of approval. It sounded like Ed wanted to reinvent the band...again. Van Halen 3.0

They had an MC guy doing intros with all 4 members talking about the new material, music videos, etc. I recorded that launch on cassette tape. I believe they only played 4-5 songs off the album. They eventually came to Houston at the Cynthia Woods pavilion. It was a fantastic show. Completely blown away by how good Gary sounded in the band. VH3 is definitely not everyone's fav. If you happen to be a guitar player, then you know exactly how good the album really is. I have a feeling that Ed's drinking started to resurface and that is what led to Gary's departure. I read that they had about 3/4 of the follow up to "III" totally finished and in the can. That's probably why Gary is being so coy here. He knows that there ls more than just a few rough demos. When execs at Warner's came in and said that they weren't happy with what they heard and wanted the band to go back in and start from scratch. I don't know who they were producing the tracks with, but Ed got frustrated and pulled the plug on the whole thing, told Gary that it wasn't going to work out and sent him on his way. That was the beginning of Ed's deep depression and when he fell off the wagon. Such a shame too. Maybe Al and Wolfgang will find some time to dig out that stuff, have it remastered and put it out like Led Zeppelin did with "Coda". I'm sure there's some stuff with Sam and Dave that went on the cutting room floor too, that could be added as well.

Just Interview Jeremy, I got to Meet and hang with Gary when he was in VH in Australia in 98 and he was such a great guy. My band and Vh had a photo taken together and years later I meet up with Gary again in Australia and was able to give him a copy of that photo which he loved as he had never seen it and he said he was going to ring Ed and tell him about the photo. I'm not sure if he did but I'm glad he has it now, now that Eddie has passed.

When VHIII came out I was working in a Sam Goody and we had to play it on heavy rotation. I went from totally unwilling to consider it as a VH album to one of my favorites.

I actually liked VHIII and won the album from the local radio station who was giving away the CD to the third caller after playing a new cut from the album (Fire In The Hole, I believe). Gary was awesome live, and it was such a fresh experience for people like myself who were too young to see VH with Dave, and never got to hear the Dave stuff live with Sammy. I'd love to see WB or the VH camp release some of these old songs someday...

I was fortunate to meet Gary and Nuno and everyone in Extreme along time ago. I was hanging out with some people from Malden mass and he took me to their band practice just before they released mother don't want to go to school today and they were all so cool great guys well we were all still pretty much kids back then. I honestly think k VHIII is an awesome album I hate when people bash it and bash Gary for being in Van Halen. He in my opinion was the right singer at the wrong time. I think he said it perfectly if they had did a tour before doing the album it would have been received better. I was happy to see Gary with Van Halen at the Boston Garden it was a great show. Thank you Gary for your contribution to the world of Rock n Roll. Can't wait to get the new Extreme album

I never saw Van Halen live but have been a fan since Diver Down. I did see Extreme live on the 3 Sides To Every Story tour at the James L Knight Center in Miami, FL. I rode my bike to that concert from my Dad’s house. It was a great concert and it was fun being there. Good vibes for sure. They rocked the house. I have the tour book.

Been a Van Halen fan since the late 80s and an Extreme fan since I heard Pornograffiti soon after it came out. I saw Extreme in Sydney in '93 and saw VH on their first ever Australian tour with Gary Cherone in Newcastle in '98. Both were amazing. My favourite singer from one of my favourite bands joining another of my favourites bands of all time, what's not to love?

I saw the VH 3 tour. The night I saw them, I think Mikey and Gary stole the show. I mean EVH was great, but you could tell he was battling some stuff and Alex had his neck brace on and was recovering from his injury and they sounded great, but their energy wasn't nearly as high as Gary and Michaels. Gary sang all the VH songs great.

Gary Cherone honestly had THE best voice out of the three lead singers for VH.
    However, somehow it didn’t vibe.
There’s a great video of Gary and Eddie singing Josephine on a Japanese variety type show. It’s so good.
It’s hard to find anything on RUclips with Eddie’s voice isolated. Eddie had a great voice.

I have always loved Gary's voice and while 3 wasn't VH's best album, it was a refreshing album. The albums previous were mainly just party songs with very few deep meaning. Gary's lyrics told a story and addressed societial issues of the time. I would love to hear 3 remixed because it is a very underrated album that had so much potential. I listen to it a few times a year.

If you have the opportunity, go see Extreme live. Yes, Nuno is underrated. Gary is underestimated. Pat, the bass player, is not widely known and deserves to be. Kevin, the drummer, is the heartbeat of the band and the crowd....you can literally feel it. All four together create a real live show that is beyond belief.

Ill never forget. I went with a concert with my cousin back in 1988 It was at a high school football field in Hudson MA . We went to see this band Extreme. never heard of em. anyway. They were second or third on the bill with other acts from the Boston area. They were great. Met all the guys and actually got Paul Gearys autograph and talked to the band a bit in passing . Pat was walking around in the crowd. Never forget that day. They were a class act then and a class act now. EXTREME!!!! oh.. Nuno was kicking ass way back then. mesmerizing. Great interview
