    Great tutorial, love that you sang with the song to give us an idea of how to sing with the chords. Defiantly a natural instructor.

    your mic for vocals sound amazing. Can I ask what type / model of mic it is? Thanks for posting this - this hit my feed only today (2 years after you posted it). Better late than never I guess! :)

    • @AfterAugust
      @AfterAugust  8 месяцев назад +1

      You’re welcome! I can’t remember the exact model, but it is a Blue Spark condenser mic. It’s more than a decade old, so they probably don’t make this model anymore. But I would guess the updated versions sound just as good or better.

    I really like the way you discussed the strumming! I think this will be very helpful when figuring out songs, especially practicing with the muted strings to just get the rhythm set.. thanks!

    D duD udU udu/d d udu/d d udu is the strumming pattern for the intro with / being chord changes and capitals being accents

    I love this tutorial! definitely one of my favorite songs, you got a new subscriber:) , one question, what part do you play on the background during the guitar solos?

    • @AfterAugust
      @AfterAugust  Год назад +1

      Thank you so much! It’s been a while so I actually had to go back and listen. Also, please note that my version may differ a bit from the original recording. Here are the chords per solo:
      - Solo 1: Verse chords
      - Solo 2: Intro chords
      - Solo 3: Bridge chords + intro chords
      I hope this helps! Enjoy learning the song and thanks for watching!

    Amazing! How did you record the vocals and guitar? How far is the mic from you? You have a great voice.

      Thanks! I recorded it with a Blue Spark condenser mic. I think you can only get them used now because Logitech bought Blue back in 2018. I can't remember the exact setup, but I think it was about a foot or two away from me. Then I just added some EQ, compression & reverb.

    I know it’s hard and takes more time, but I would really love it if the lead could be explained. That’s what I’m trying to get better at.

    • @AfterAugust
      @AfterAugust  5 месяцев назад

      tbh it's been so many years since I recorded the original version I'd have to relearn the solo myself. I never actually learned the solo from the original song, and while I did end up incorporating a few riffs/melodies from the original solo, most of my version was improv.
      My original recording (ruclips.net/video/ZOqTpJmJTiM/видео.html) has close-ups on my hands for all of the solo parts. So it may be worthwhile watching those parts on 0.5x speed to begin to play along. Best of luck with the solo!

    Thanks a ton for this! Very helpful, was wondering if motif 1 is a hammer on or a pull off?

    • @AfterAugust
      @AfterAugust  3 года назад +2

      Thank you! Motif 1 actually isn’t truly a hammer on or pull off (apologies if I mislead), rather that you alternate your middle finger on and off the string with each strum. So when you strum down, your middle finger is on the fret, when you strum up your middle finger is off the fret. When put together, the pattern of strumming down-up-down-up correlates to your middle finger going on-off-on-off. I hope that makes sense!

    • @AfterAugust
      @AfterAugust  3 года назад +1

      I never actually learned his banjo part. The solos I played were partially what I heard from the original song and partially me improvising. Sorry!

    What’s the drumming pattern written out cause I’m trying to wrap my brain around it but it’s difficult. It’s down,down,down,up?

    • @AfterAugust
      @AfterAugust  3 года назад +2

      Sorry, but I don’t know how it would be written out. I’ve never written strumming patterns. And it varies throughout the song. Try to keep you strumming hand always going up and down then the strike the strings when you want to. But never stop the up and down motion in your strumming hand. The intro might be something like down, up, down, up, down, down, up, down, up, down. But there are pauses in that as well, so it’s not easy to be written out. I wish I could offer more help!
