    The bad upscaling on the TCL is a deal breaker. I watch a lot of RUclips and Directv and the review from RTINGS also confirms with other reviewers findings. Sony is the king when it comes to color accuracy and 1080p and lower res upscaling.

    When a handful of reviewers experience failures on a particular make & model, I don’t take it lightly as panel-lottery. I think it speaks volume about QC and future reliability. Store exchange would be a huge hassle since for a 75” I’d be dependent on pickup & delivery. It’s too bad since I have my eyes on the QM8 and U8K. So it’s looking like X90L for me and its lesser blacks.
    Thanks for the very informative and entertaining videos, FOMO. When I ever do take home a new TV, you would’ve played no small part in the decision process.

    The think I notice consistently with Sony tvs whether it be LCD or OLED is that they try to balance the image out to give you as much detail and information in the image as possible. I have a Sony X900h and that tv still looks great with everything you throw at it. Other brands tend to swing too hard into brightness and the image ends up looking washed out. But when you see a Sony tv they tend to have this balance in image quality that makes the image have depth and clarity which translates to picture that looks like you can reach across and touch someone in the content.

      i have the 85 inch 900H and i love it, i was thinking about getting something smaller as we may be moving into an apartment soon, trying to figure out if i should stay with sony or try something a bit "brighter" tv because all i watch is sports on cable

      @wgwrigel1 I would look into a Samsung to be honest. The QN85 series or if it's still available the QN90B. Samsung's screens tend to be bright as hell. I would also recommend vizio at 85 inches the their J01 tv seems to be big and bright.

    • @truthseeker5079
      @truthseeker5079 11 месяцев назад

      @wgwrigel1 I would recommend Hisense, but they tend to have weird ghosting issues with their tvs. I guess TCL the new 8 series could be a good option too.

      @@truthseeker5079 If he loves the Sony TV why change brands based on one picture quality metric? Literally every brand makes a brighter model than the X900h including Sony. The fact that he wants a smaller tv would give him room to move to a higher end Sony TV. Every brand makes very bright tvs now. I think buying one over another based on brightness is kinda dumb when anything over $1,000 is hitting 1,000 nits. It’s not all about brightness. Image processing plays a big role as does UI.

    I have a question regarding the upscaling. I noticed that you mentioned you have tried RUclips tv content. When you use a Shield TV for steaming and turn on A.I. Enhanced upscaling does it mess up the content on u8k and the Q7 as well as the U7K.

  • @truthseeker5079
    @truthseeker5079 11 месяцев назад +8

    I've been watching your channel and other tv enthusiasts for years, and consistently what I notice is that Sony tvs are not the brightest or they might not have the highest specs, but what they lack in specs they make up for in image processing. I can't even explain it but when you watch a movie on a Sony tv it hits different, there's a 3 dimensional look to it. There's an image depth that other tvs don't pull off. It's a balanced image the highlights pop maybe not the brightest but the still pop enough, the blacks are deep maybe not the darkest of dark, but there's details in the shadows, and the gradients in color preserve information that gives your brain more to work with.

    QUESTION: Mr. Fomo, your video comparison here shows three 65" TV sets. The U8K uses a VA panel at that size. Therefore, it is no surprise that the VA panel TV set has "Terrible Viewing Angles," just like the TCL QM8, TCL Q7, Sony X90L, and Hisense U8K at the sizes of 55" and 65." However, the 75" version of the U8K uses an IPS panel - which means the Hisense 75" version should have excellent viewing angles. What are your thoughts about this?

    I've been using the X90L since December 14, 2023. I am thrilled with its SDR and HDR10 performance. However, in Dolby Vision Dark with HDR Tone Mapping turned off, the X90L's light output resembles my previous plasma. Unlike other displays, the X90L allows me to change these settings during Dolby Vision playback. Wen Adv. Contrast Enhancer is off whether in Dolby Vision Dark, Dolby Vision Bright, or Dolby Vision Vivid, the peak light output is lower than during HDR10 playback regardless of the HDR Tone Mapping setting. Setting Adv. Contrast Enhancer to High whether in Dolby Vision Bright or Dolby Vision Vivid is the only way I can achieve peak light levels similar to HDR10. Which HDR Tone Mapping setting is least likely to clip details in bright scenes during Dolby Vision playback with Adv. Contrast Enhancer set to High? Brightness Preferred, Gradation Preferred, or Off? Is the peak light output during Dolby Vision playback supposed to be dimmer than during HDR10? If so, then I'll accept Dolby Vision Dark with HDR Tone Mapping and Adv. Contrast Enhancer both set to Off. However, if peak light output is supposed to be as bright as HDR10, I think finding the settings which maintain details in bright scenes during Dolby Vision playback is how to go about this unless or until Sony corrects the Dolby Vision light level issues via a firmware upgrade.

      My Vizio from 2017 has some DSE too. Sometimes it’s pretty distracting. You mostly notice it with sports and video games. After 6 years it’s developed a hair line crack or line of dead pixels so later this year I’m looking to upgrade to a Sony. I’m looking at either the X90L or X93L if it comes down in price around the holidays and if I have the extra cash to pay more.

    QUESTION: Mr. Fomo, can you please do a review of this Toshiba 65" TV. I saw it on sale multiple places recently for only $329. I know it is only 60hz. So, I don't expect it to be fully optimized for 120hz Gaming. And I don't even expect the Direct Lit TV to be fully optimized for HDR or Dolby Vision with movies. However, I am stuck in a rut this year. I was hoping to get a 75" TV set this year that was IPS with Mini-LED and an ATSC 3.0 tuner, and two HDMI 2.1 inputs with a separate eArc channel. But, NONE of the TVs have lived up to those expectations for a decent price. I had my eye on both the U8K and the QM8, but both were disappointments. Here's why:
    The Hisense U8K 75" made me happy because it is a IPS TV set - which should mean it has very good viewing angles. But it disappoints me because it only has the "8-Bit plus FRC" panel - which by default means it may be able to get away with "Simulating" the 10-Bit HDR, but has ZERO CHANCE of "Simulating" the 12-Bit Dolby Vision signal. I like the way it has an ATSC 3.0 Tuner. But, I don't like the way it has an eArc channel that uses one of the two HDMI 2.1 inputs. This means only one gaming console or PC can use an HDMI 2.1 channel. I have an Onkyo THX Ultra A/V Receiver that has HDMI 1.4 inputs, so I would need both of the HDMI 2.1 inputs, with the eArc on s separate channel. TCL seems to be the only company with enough brains to do it that way.
    The Hisense QM8 was very impressive at first. The QM8 has a true 10-Bit panel that allows for the "Simulating" of Dolby Vision. Unfortunately, the QM8 uses a VA panel with, "Terrible Viewing Angles." I don't like that. I also think it is terrible the way the QM8 does NOT include an ATSC 3.0 Tuner. I do like the way the QM8 has two HDMI 2.1 inputs and a separate eArc channel.
    The TV sets just don't get it right this year. I will have to wait another year. But, I don't want to be with my crappy 26" TV again for ANOTHER year! So, I'm considering this 65" Toshiba TV for this year, and then giving it away to a family member next year IF either Hisense or TCL get it right in 2024.
    What are your thoughts about the quality of the Toshiba 65" C350 TV primarily for Comcast 1080p, 1080p Blu-rays, 480p DVDs and Xbox One non-HDR gaming?

    This is definitely the best Q7 review content out there to see how it performs with color, brightness and blooming. While it may be a little behind in some areas, it seems to excel in others and at a fraction of the price as the other two. Seems like the best option for those on a budget.

      I ended up pulling the trigger on the TCL Q7 when BB had it on sale still for $550.
      Coming from a 2011 LG 47LW5788 the Q7 (at that price!) is absolutely amazing.
      Is it the best TV, no but for a budget pickup and first new TV in a decade? Perfect. Won't have any issue replacing with a micro LED in 5yrs hopefully

      YES, X93L is brighter with slightly deeper blacks but X90L has XR Clear (X93L is rebadged X95K so it doesn't have XR Clear) so arguably better upscaling of low bitrate content

    Great comparison FOMO! 🤓 These are exactly the 3 panels that I am looking at!!
    I was leaning toward the U8K or the X90L until I saw this.
    I need to replace a Hisense U6F that I bought in Aug 2020 - the whole right side of the panel is going gradually darker - 3 1/2 years is not so great.
    (Is that maybe because it hangs next to a window on that side, and I had Auto Light Sensor on?)
    I think I'm going with the TCL Q7. It seemed to do better than the other 2 very often ( I hope it wasn't just due to the calibration).
    With my bad history from Hisense, and the X90L costing as much as the U8K and the Q7 added together, it's a no brainer for me.
    Hope it lasts longer than the Hisense! 🤨
