Designer mid century furniture and vintage pieces from similar time periods are very expensive, especially when they're in good condition! And as much as I'd like to splurge for those really unique quality pieces, they're totally out of my budget! So I really wanted to achieve that same look with some thrifted pieces and simple DIYs, and I'm so happy with the outcome! But what do you think?! Are you a mid century purist, or do you think duping the style in this way is acceptable too?
I really like how you pointed out that your room was curated over time. It's so frustrating to see a room come together in one video and not knowing how I'm ever going to get the feel I want with nothing to put in it. But knowing it took you time makes it feel more attainable.
Absolutely! All my makeovers take such a long time haha mainly because I am shopping on a budget so I have to wait for the perfect and *affordable* piece to pop up at an estate sale or on Facebook Marketplace. Its rare I buy something new. I wish I could! I am just not there yet financially haha maybe one day! But until then, the challenge is also the fun of it all too : )
Collecting through time and from different places has made your room look unique and very cool. It looks very much like your inspiration boards and so is a great job. Its fantastic to have a room that energises you and basically hugs your soul.
Love it! Be careful with playing records near the window during the day. They can get warped easily. I love the new knobs! I vote yes for new knobs on the shelving unit!
You are so creative! The knobs on the bed do tie the bed into the room and less “IKEA”-ish. I also like how the cabinet knobs lessen the small black 2000s pull vibes. The whole room looks very cohesive and fun. Wish I had an ounce of your design!
This is my second time watching this video LK & I have to say, I enjoyed it so much both times!! lol! This time I noticed how much I really like the combo of knobs on the shelving/hutch FB market find. You mentioned that, at the time, you weren't sure which way you wanted to go (the round wood knobs vs the original black knobs) & I think having both really serves the piece & looks just right!! I also always appreciate an art collage that lives on the corner of two walls like you have here. Hanging the art this way adds yet another cool layer of interest! I'll have to revisit your LR refresh to see how the wall the record player used to be on is doing as I must admit - I loved how you had those 2 pieces (the mcm end table & record player) together when you first put the LR together. I just thought it flowed so well & created a unique piece of furniture! However, I also think it looks great in here, it suits the spot under the window. I really enjoy your videos! You have such a calming way about you that makes me feel calm too! I hope this room has been working well for it's multi purposes!!
I collect MCM ceramic ashtrays! So I thought it was cool you incorporated an ashtray! I don’t smoke, I just think MCM ceramic ashtrays are beautiful pieces of art! I currently have about 15 of them on display. Love all the beautiful colors ❤😊

I love everything you did! I’m on a diet and thought the new bed drawer handles were vanilla wafers. That furniture piece was a real find. My secret with curtains is hooks that clip on with rings on everything, makes the curtains very usable.

I love how it turned out! I’m not a fan of MCM in my own home, but I love seeing well-designed spaces- I love that cluttered but organized look too! (I just like mine more traditional/vintage). My faves are the hat wall, and your DIY clock- so interesting! And I like how you did the dark green mat with the picture off-centered. This room looks cozy and creative and well-designed. But it makes sense that it is, when you collected over time and put thought into it!

You are really good with knobs. I love the way the knobs on the bed reflect the floor---and, honestly, I thought that bedspread was so "blah" before you amped it up with the wooden knobs. I also like the wooden knobs on the cabinet. Before, the cabinet looked really "pointy." But the wooden knobs soften the edges without losing the linear lines of the cabinet. I did not like that yellow lamp. To me it looked like something that came off the roof of a Dept. of Transportation service truck. But the curtains fixed all that. I love it now! Great job!

It's so difficult finding good (and affordable) vintage items in Germany. The good MCM stuff (Danish) is insanely pricey and even the GDR Hellerau pieces have gone up in price a lot. Etsy is a good source and you could always travel to the Netherlands for some good finds.
@@nadjak3410 yeah, when I first moved to Leipzig I enjoyed some great deals on a damaged MCM Italian? shelf unit for 100 EUR and a few GDR night stands for 5 EUR each at the Agra monthly flea market. No way they would go that cheap now! I’ve been sick for years, but I hoping to be able to get back out there and see soon.

I love your style! Fyi on the lenda curtains: they shrink A LOT in the wash, so if you can I think you should swap them for the taller ones. I made sure to wash them quite cold but they shrunk twice! And then after washing 2-3 times you could hem them.

Yes! I would just soak it in a small amount of coffee but mainly water! You can always do a second soak to darken. let it fully dry in the sun for the actual color :)

I really like your channel and style! I think I’m having trouble with how fast the transitions are when showing things. I think my brain is just starting to focus and then it quick switches to a new angle. Maybe the camera needs to stay just a hair longer before changing… Otherwise everything is absolutely terrific! I like changing the handles on the cabinet! If you end up not like the round ones, Amazon has some long narrow shaped mid century wood pulls that I think are beautiful! I wish we could link on RUclips so I could show you, and if not in this room, I think they’d certainly be your style somewhere if you ever need another handle choice. I’d be tempted to paint the daybed in one of the colorblock colors. It’s definitely not necessary, just a temptation for me. I was noticing this and it’s not necessary here but might be cool somewhere in your house, but I love the green sheer curtains, but they might look really cool a curtain like that, that goes to corner wall but is 2/3 or 1/3 of the wall space. (going by wall space ignoring window dimensions) it feels very color blocky and kind of an update on Midcdntury modern full wall curtains… i think the only reason I don’t full recommend it here is because of those amazing curtain rods you made. They don’t really go as well with the curtain wall effect. But the 1/3 or 2/3 curtain wall might really balance the cabinet otherwise. Not sure if anything I wrote made sense!

In the meantime if it helps, you can slow down my video with the gear icon in the bottom right corner by like .75x speed so that could help if you wanted to look at something longer! I also totally get what you’re saying about the curtains and i even have track curtains that I considered using! Plus I had the same thoughts about the bed. So it’s funny you say that! I like the cool curtain rod for now BUT totally get it and might do it in the future!!😊
love how everything turned out, especially the little moment in the credenza with the glass lamp :) one thing to note, it’s really disorienting to have the camera shots constantly mirrored back and forth when trying to understand the room or where you’re placed in the room.

i think putting the record cabinet right next to the mid century tall cabinet could make them look like a set and more built in

I was noticing this and it’s not necessary here but might be cool somewhere in your house, but I love the green sheer curtains, but they might look really cool a curtain like that, that goes to corner wall but is 2/3 or 1/3 of the wall space. (going by wall space ignoring window dimensions) it feels very color blocky and kind of an update on Midcdntury modern full wall curtains… i think the only reason I don’t full recommend it here is because of those amazing curtain rods you made. They don’t really go as well with the curtain wall effect. But the 1/3 or 2/3 curtain wall might really balance the cabinet otherwise. Not sure if anything I wrote made sense!

In the meantime if it helps, you can slow down my video with the gear icon in the bottom right corner by like .75x speed so that could help if you wanted to look at something longer! I also totally get what you’re saying about the curtains and i even have track curtains that I considered using! Plus I had the same thoughts about the bed. So it’s funny you say that! I like the cool curtain rod for now BUT totally get it and might do it in the future!!😊

love how everything turned out, especially the little moment in the credenza with the glass lamp :) one thing to note, it’s really disorienting to have the camera shots constantly mirrored back and forth when trying to understand the room or where you’re placed in the room.

I love watching you work on projects cause I love working on stuff like that, but I don't like when you use certain language because I have kids. But that doesn't mean I can't watch you, I just don't watch it around them. I'm not going to stop watching you because I have a different opinion.
