A museum has too many items to display altogether so instead feature certain collections/items at different times or seasons etc.
Yes, I was thinking that the fireplace still looks a bit too white to me. I was also thinking that darker pieces of artwork close to the tv would blend the screen in more. Like actually in the after shots the dark chair kind of takes focus away from the tv. I love that you don't want to make tv the focal point of the room (and the fireplace very clearly should be it) but your room is hard to figure out in that sense. My favourite idea for the tv would be a thin cabinet with wheels (and with doors, like old radio/tv cabinets were)! That could be rolled in front of the fireplace (or anywhere) when you want to watch it? Maybe it could be a console table behind the couch normally?

The picture can have a little of the brick red color in it too. Also, the are tv mounts that you can pull the tv down a bit so you won’t strain your neck. It’s actually an easy fix. I do basically the same thing. I start out changing just a few things on shelves, and before I know it, other things come and go, and I've moved half a dozen other things in or out of the room. It always ends up looking fresh and new. We all need that from time to time. What's amazing is that I have discovered that many of the things I have are interchangeable from one room to another. I have obviously discovered what I like. My style sort of snuck up on me when I wasn't looking!
this video is 5 months old so maybe you’ve already solved the tv problem but something i love to do to cover up the vast black eyesore is to drape a fun vintage silk scarf over it. something that’s narrower than the tv but will cover a good chunk of it! i love your refresh & your design in general, it’s so thoughtful!
The shoe rack and table look really good in the entryway and that bookcase was such a good find. I like the red paint on the fireplace and it does distract from the tv. I thought the tv easel would be a good solution but you were right, it did not work at all. The tv on the mantle thing is not ideal. Keep persevering you will find a solution!

Such a lovely room... nice furniture and great colours. Iam struggling with the condition of the walls and ceiling. Mine was the same and I had them plaster skimmed...now super smooth. I think skimming the walls would be of great benefit. 😊
Oh cool! I am actually a renter so I can’t do that as the owner wants to maintain the integrity of the “spanish revival style” of the home but I agree sometimes I wish I had smooth walls! Maybe one day if we can figure out how to buy it haha!
I love the little table and I think it looks just right by the door. The bookcase was a fabulous find and looks great on that wall. The only thing I'd gently suggest is removing all the kitchen items from it and put them in the kitchen. Great job!
I am with you on tvs. I really don't want to look at TVs unless I am using it. Some people put them in armoires, which would be too small for your tv, some get those TVs that you can digitally download a painting on it and hide it that way. I have a 21" tv and I have it inside a black bookcase which makes the tv not noticeable (black on black) till you use it which I love and I have seen someone build a cabinet in front of her's and put a print on the doors so you have art till you open the the doors to see the tv. A simple solution is go to A fabric store and find some tapestry/embroidered material and make a slip cover for it that way you can hide the tv, have art and take the slip cover off when you want to use it.
That synergy commentary made me chuckled 😆On another note, bringing the red/burgandy inside was such a good choice. I would have never consider that. The red tile is a little too neat/smooth compared to the terracotta red. Maybe adding a secondary color to create a texture will make the tile and brick look more cohesive. The bookshelf was such a steal! Love how the home is coming together.

I absolutely love the candle holder/sculpture you placed in the bookcase. The bookcase was a great find. You're right, painting the tiles on the fireplace does take your eye away from the Tv. I also really liked the TV set up on the easel. Maybe if you made or bought a frame for the tv when it's on the easel you could place it purposefully throughout the room depending on your need/mood at the time. You have some great art pieces. Love the lady with the baskets.

I love your channel because the DIYs are realistic to achieve, and everything is so budget friendly. Have you thought about framing the TV and making it into wall art? I haven't done it myself but I saw it on another channel and it didn't look difficult to do.

I love the boldness of the color you painted on fireplace front. You could double down on this by getting a large pottery/ceramic piece and paint it this color. Or paint the front edge of the mantel the same color. Always try to go bigger if you can.
CONSIDER PAINTING THE WHITE FIREPLACE a deeper offwhite (The extreme white clashes with the red, A WARM TAUPE mimicking raw plaster will work with the red painted tiles & highlight your entire fireplace even more, spanish tiles are also mosaic) PLEASE DONT CLEAN THE VINTAGE BRASS LIGHT- (patina is lovely). FOLLOW LONE FOX, HIS HOME is also SPANISH REVIVAL plaster & brown trim with vintage thrift for more ideas about space layout. He put his TV in an armoire.
I think the red around the fireplace looks great and i would definitely leave the reading lamp as it is. The patina is great. There are a couple of things that i would change. I didn't care for the canisters in the bookcase or the shoe rack in the living room... But hey, if you like it that's what matters most. You did a great job all in all!
loved your living room makeover, but this really completes the space. going vertical with the bookshelf is a really smart way to display all your thrifted finds. I also never thought to do a refresh like this in the new year because of how expensive everything is these days but now I'm inspired to change up my apartment!

To clean the lamp I would suggest bar keepers. It’s kinda like baking soda but it says it cleans brass. I used it on some candlesticks I thrifted and omg it brought back the shine in no time!
a good solution for the tv could be mounting it with an arm! then you can tilt it down or swivel it so it's comfortable to watch. and you could put some decor (i.e. candles, plants, books, vase, trinkets) on the mantle to distract from the tv

I am really into black lampshades. Just make sure it doesn't have silver on the inside, they throw off too bright white light. Gold on the inside is the best. If you happen to run into one at the thrift grab it. At any rate, the black is really good. Moody and fantastic. You can have a little lamp on the entryway table. 25 watt lightbulbs on tiny lamps are totally a vibe. It looks so good! I love the new book shelf wall and think the blanket shelf is a fantastic idea. I love it and really want to see it at night.
I forgot about black lampshades with the gold interior! My mom had some great ones when I was growing up.. I will need to keep my eye out for some cool ones : )
The fireplace tiles should be "antiqued" with a brown glaze to tone it down a bit. Get the TV off of the mantle and move it next to the chair next to the fireplace. The chair adds to the "black box" and draws attention there. Move the chair next to the bookcase (new one) and the cute 2-level table to the window area behind where the chair was. That will spread the weight around the room more. Just a thought. You have a beautiful eye for decor!!
You may want to think twice about putting your keys, but particularly your wallet right by the front window by the front door, you’re inviting trouble.
If you get the adjustable tv mount, you can pull it away from the wall and pull it down or push it up and tilt it to whatever direction you want when you're using it and then push it back to its original position on the wall when you're done. It's still going to look like a black box in the room, but you won't have to strain your neck when watching it.
Re: the big black box. Have you seen tried the tv mount that comes out & down to a (theoretically) more comfortable watching height? I’m considering one for our family room. 😊
By putting the dark heavy looking chair beside the fireplace and painting the red definitely takes away from the dark looking television. It’s not so obvious. Good job I really like how you talk through your decisions.
First time viewer, but wow do we have a similar vibe. I have so many shelving units,( mcm collector) and like you ,I’m drawn to unique or sculptural pieces. I never tire of rearranging my displays. I too love playing with light, I have enough lamps that I display my overflow collection in my master. My stairway is an art and plant gallery. For the shelves to break up the wood and the colors I would add something chrome in there like a cool chrome lamp or something since most of the colors are warm. I think the chrome will break it up a little bit.
I love the bookshelf ..my mom had one just like it, hers was from the early 70's, real wood and forever lasting. I think u should use a dab of brown paint to the burgundy chimney paint to match the tiles. I just love your videos, I get so exited whenever you post a new one, we pretty much have the same style and taste and I also always like to change things around. Now I'm going to be on the hunt for a similar bookshelf because I have lots of old books and vintage artifacts to display...

Love ALL of it… including the modern shoe storage bench under the window. Suggestion for consideration: think about “continuing the art deco design surround LINE” down to the baseboard along the fireplace bricks. Try to take the cherry cola color down to meet the bricks and only make it match the width of the final lower piece. Hope this makes sense. I LOVE that you thought it would distract from the TV. It absolutely does. * did hate the tripod for the TV thing. Giving a presentation vibes was a spot on comment. ;)
Meant to add this in another video where you cleaned up caked on paint on door hardware. I've done refreshes of cabinet hardware using a dremmel with a wire brush. Great for the nooks and crannies and so fun to do. Maybe use a soft wire drill brush to get the rust off the lamp.
I like everything youve done. The TV over the fireplace though! Who originally came up with that unfortunate idea 24:18 . I have my tvs in other rooms - hate them in livingrooms. Would that work for you?
Haha I don't know why/when we started demonizing the TV... BUT it can feel like an eyesore at the same time, especially when its too high and its not tucked into a media unit.. getting a big enough one to hide it in is very expensive. I originally had this TV in our office/guest room but there was no real space for it there as that's a multipurpose room and then we just got a projector for our bedroom as its low key and we only watch stuff in there at night anyways! The TV is really for when family/friends come over, when we get addicted to a new TV show (which sadly we are currently lol) or when my partner plays video games occasionally haha.. Its not TOO bad, I am getting used to it as I live with it more! But I will most likely take it out of there again when our TV series is over haha.. its just an ever-evolving space..
Wowww, very good! I like your style! I'm new here, but I would like to suggest some small upgrades that I have recently done to my house and they changed the whole vibe in better. Put the TV on the wall with a bracket and cover the cables with stickers cover cables (I don't know the name of it 🤣) A larger mirror will fit better your entryway area. And I would live the space under the window empty so all the room will looks larger. Those are just my opinions 😊❤️

The "lip" on the bookshelves is supposed to face down. Its just there to make the shelf look chunkier. Thats an 80s bookshelf and i have one like it.

Hey! Lampshades made of fabric (good vintage ones) can be washed with water. After vacuuming the dust, Soak in a tub with cold water and presto!

I think the red around the fireplace looks great and i would definitely leave the reading lamp as it is. The patina is great. There are a couple of things that i would change. I didn't care for the canisters in the bookcase or the shoe rack in the living room... But hey, if you like it that's what matters most. You did a great job all in all!

loved your living room makeover, but this really completes the space. going vertical with the bookshelf is a really smart way to display all your thrifted finds. I also never thought to do a refresh like this in the new year because of how expensive everything is these days but now I'm inspired to change up my apartment!

I liked the tv on top of the mantel. Our tv has been hung above our mantel for several years, and we have no neck aches from it.
Regarding the fireplace, they don't usually have base boards on the front of a fireplace. 👍🏼

To clean the lamp I would suggest bar keepers. It’s kinda like baking soda but it says it cleans brass. I used it on some candlesticks I thrifted and omg it brought back the shine in no time!

a good solution for the tv could be mounting it with an arm! then you can tilt it down or swivel it so it's comfortable to watch. and you could put some decor (i.e. candles, plants, books, vase, trinkets) on the mantle to distract from the tv

I am really into black lampshades. Just make sure it doesn't have silver on the inside, they throw off too bright white light. Gold on the inside is the best. If you happen to run into one at the thrift grab it. At any rate, the black is really good. Moody and fantastic. You can have a little lamp on the entryway table. 25 watt lightbulbs on tiny lamps are totally a vibe. It looks so good! I love the new book shelf wall and think the blanket shelf is a fantastic idea. I love it and really want to see it at night.
I forgot about black lampshades with the gold interior! My mom had some great ones when I was growing up.. I will need to keep my eye out for some cool ones : )
The fireplace tiles should be "antiqued" with a brown glaze to tone it down a bit. Get the TV off of the mantle and move it next to the chair next to the fireplace. The chair adds to the "black box" and draws attention there. Move the chair next to the bookcase (new one) and the cute 2-level table to the window area behind where the chair was. That will spread the weight around the room more. Just a thought. You have a beautiful eye for decor!!
You may want to think twice about putting your keys, but particularly your wallet right by the front window by the front door, you’re inviting trouble.

If you get the adjustable tv mount, you can pull it away from the wall and pull it down or push it up and tilt it to whatever direction you want when you're using it and then push it back to its original position on the wall when you're done. It's still going to look like a black box in the room, but you won't have to strain your neck when watching it.
Re: the big black box. Have you seen tried the tv mount that comes out & down to a (theoretically) more comfortable watching height? I’m considering one for our family room. 😊

By putting the dark heavy looking chair beside the fireplace and painting the red definitely takes away from the dark looking television. It’s not so obvious. Good job I really like how you talk through your decisions.
First time viewer, but wow do we have a similar vibe. I have so many shelving units,( mcm collector) and like you ,I’m drawn to unique or sculptural pieces. I never tire of rearranging my displays. I too love playing with light, I have enough lamps that I display my overflow collection in my master. My stairway is an art and plant gallery. For the shelves to break up the wood and the colors I would add something chrome in there like a cool chrome lamp or something since most of the colors are warm. I think the chrome will break it up a little bit.
I love the bookshelf ..my mom had one just like it, hers was from the early 70's, real wood and forever lasting. I think u should use a dab of brown paint to the burgundy chimney paint to match the tiles. I just love your videos, I get so exited whenever you post a new one, we pretty much have the same style and taste and I also always like to change things around. Now I'm going to be on the hunt for a similar bookshelf because I have lots of old books and vintage artifacts to display...

😊we have the Frame TV and we love it….personalized it with a go,d antique frame and play art all day everyday….ours is the Matt finish and soooooo many people have to come up really close to verify it is actually 5he TV. I love it because I HATE TV ON A WALL OR ANYWHERE

Suggestion for consideration: think about “continuing the art deco design surround LINE” down to the baseboard along the fireplace bricks.
Try to take the cherry cola color down to meet the bricks and only make it match the width of the final lower piece.
Hope this makes sense.

Meant to add this in another video where you cleaned up caked on paint on door hardware. I've done refreshes of cabinet hardware using a dremmel with a wire brush. Great for the nooks and crannies and so fun to do. Maybe use a soft wire drill brush to get the rust off the lamp.

Haha I don't know why/when we started demonizing the TV... BUT it can feel like an eyesore at the same time, especially when its too high and its not tucked into a media unit.. getting a big enough one to hide it in is very expensive. I originally had this TV in our office/guest room but there was no real space for it there as that's a multipurpose room and then we just got a projector for our bedroom as its low key and we only watch stuff in there at night anyways! The TV is really for when family/friends come over, when we get addicted to a new TV show (which sadly we are currently lol) or when my partner plays video games occasionally haha.. Its not TOO bad, I am getting used to it as I live with it more! But I will most likely take it out of there again when our TV series is over haha.. its just an ever-evolving space..

I'm new here, but I would like to suggest some small upgrades that I have recently done to my house and they changed the whole vibe in better.
Put the TV on the wall with a bracket and cover the cables with stickers cover cables (I don't know the name of it 🤣)
A larger mirror will fit better your entryway area.
And I would live the space under the window empty so all the room will looks larger.
Those are just my opinions 😊❤️
