Lula idea is amazing, for a tiny space you need to get a lot of lights and white colors. The best step to get the best option is to try 3d modeling and rendering. Good job
The 'Green Room' is very inspiring, and I now have more respect for a darker color as I thought it was a bad choice at first for a small space. By far the best IMO. Great job!
Dark colors *can* look really nice in small spaces, but it's important to remember that lighting is key! If you have a well lit room, a dark color isn't gonna kill your perception of that space, but if your lighting isn't great, I would think twice about it, or at the very least consider where you may need to add artificial lighting.
Yep. Green wins, hands down. Hers was easily the most functional design. I would have added drawers under that desk, or a file cabinet, but loved the wall of shelves and the L shaped desk.
I feel like Laura is the only one that made an actual office. I don't know why Lula would think to put a hot azz fireplace in a small room and Alvin made the room feel so congested.
Lulas design was my favorite but it kind of missed the mark. The whole idea was a small office space not another living room I think Lula also has an issue with proportions. If that were life sized her design would look unbalanced, given the proportions using the book case as a guide it seems the built-in seating wasn't drawn to proper size.
Me too, small room does not need fireplace, in addition it takes more space, may be if she replaces it with full wall mirror, I like the green room but with curve desk instead l sharp edge one.
Yup. A fireplace you can't sit in front of? Why? She mentions a desk, but it is small and faces away from the window. What an awful place to work! Alvin has too much furniture and the curtain should extend to the window frame - it would fool the eye and make the window look bigger. (I always have Roman shades hung from the ceiling to make windows look taller and use curtains to make windows look wider.) None of them provide file cabinet space, although you could put some file boxes on Laura's wall. I would have put recessed lights over the desk - more work light might be needed. Laura answered the assignment. Alvin sort of did. Lula completely ignored the assignment and made a den, not an office.
Laura is the only one who honestly came in to slay the assignment. It's easy for some designers to get carried away with their concepts when there is no budget to work with. Great job Laura!
Laura did an amazing job, clever choices and keeping productivity in mind while sticking to the brief. Lula was like "all the office stuff is out of the frame, trust me bro" Alvin is just out here ignoring the point of the video itself haha
Lula ignoring a desk was a no, no for me. Having the zodiac signs was very personal to her, which I am absolutely not into. All 3 had nice ideas, but I would choose Laura's design
One of the first things I learned in interior design school was functionality needs to go before aesthetics. If your space isn’t going to function then it being beautiful doesn’t really matter. And lula and Alvin, while beautiful, created spaces that weren’t functional. Laura’s space is so functional and also beautiful. Sure, she didn’t pull in a day bed or fireplace, but those aren’t needed and just clutter up the space
They need to have interior design shows like they have cooking shows because i could watch this all day. Many of the shows can be designed to be exactly the same but for interior designers.
I recommend the show Interior Design Masters! There are currently 3 seasons and each week contestants have a prompt to design a space (office, room, store etc) and then they get judged on practicality, design and if it works. A designer gets eliminated each week if their design didnt meet the mark
Same thought bc in other episode they are changing the wall too. Also, i would move the orientation of the desk not to the wall but to the space. So we won't work with empty long space behind.
Alvin and Lula lost me a bit by moving the window: that is not often an option in remodeling interior space, and it seemed so impractical as to be a “cheat” on the design constraints. I liked the color scheme of Lula’s room best, but I think Laura designed the best office workspace. Great video.
Even if it is an option for them in these videos, there was some sort of column there I think - or something that belonged to another room, but it's closed off. Whatever it was, didn't seem like it could just be eliminated, it's even worse than moving a window!
Lulu’s was my favorite but everything at the fireplace and after ruined it. Instead of a hot fireplace in a tiny room (no air circulation for a fire), I would have put the desk there, a circle mirror above it and two wall sconces on each side
Lol, I was thinking "How old is she? Come back in 20 years and we'll talk dear!" 😂 And a tiny desk? Really? All three of them were using more table space for this video than what she built in the "office"!
Im surprised none of designs featured a wall folding desk. Love all the spaces but Laura’s feels the most functional and where I would get the most work done.
I love Laura's design, but for me the green is too dark and open shelves are not that practical (unless you like cleaning). Lula's was interesting, but in my opinion she overdid it with that colorful fireplace full of clutter. A wall mount electric LED version would have been sufficient for an office or at least a smaller plastered version (matching the seating area).
@@janesmith7288 I agree the green is a little depressing. Especially because she painted the ceiling the same color. I like Lulus color palette (excepting the fireplace) but its a very cool study lounge at best for me. Edit: open shelving keeps me from cluttering lol
I do feel like Laura was the only one who was realistic. Like if when you call an interior designer, he will magically move your window and put a fireplace???? This is almost impossible without intensive change to your whole house.
I really like watching episodes like this. Of all the designs I feel like Laura's space is the one I would prefer to have as my office space. AD, thanks for sharing.
We need a real, human, working middle class person to grade these because I want points deducted for moving windows, lack of desk, random daybed nobody asked for, etc. Like it would look beautiful in a magazine but that's where it ends for everyone except Laura. Shout out Laura.
Yep, the point I am making above (though I tend to go on for massively longer). This is an issue with many designers and interior decorators today: all style (real or perceived), little substance or practicality.
I absolutely love Laura's design!!! It's a classy, cozy, and extremely practical working office. Alvin's is way more about design than function. Lula doesn't get that not everyone just lounges around with a laptop; many people do actual paperwork, or art, or research, or any number of creative functions that absolutely require a decent sized work area.
Laura's was my favorite because it was functional and had character. I love how Laura and Alvin found something that resonated with each other's and Lula's designs. I noticed Lula laughed at the other designers work and focused on some obscure corner of Alvin's design. Speaks volumes.
I hope someone purchases a piece of art from Lulu's friends. She worked hard highlighting their pieces, but the room wasn't an office space. Alvin, sir, that was the hippest guest room ever but office space, no. Laura created an office space. She clearly understood the assignment.
His office reminded me of a hotel. Yk? It's glam, it's cool, it has that color palette, and the "office" part is really just a console table with a massive lamp and a chair. Which is fine if all you need is a laptop, but it feels claustrophobic, like you're making out with the wall. I'm not even sure how comfortable people's legs would fit under it. Also, the main purpose of the room is to house guests. Overall, it doesn't really meet the brief. The tv and day bed have that same issue, they're so close together that I feel like my mom is going to pop out of the bushes to yell at me for damaging my eyes.
Laura’s was the best by far. Lula’s was ok but it’s like she designed a random room and then put a laptop in it to say it’s an office. To be fair, that may work for some types of jobs, but not many.
I appreciate the office achieved in the green room (and she worked within the space provided). Just as the walls can’t be moved to change the shape of the room in this exercise, the window shouldn’t be movable or elongated. It’s about working with what you got!
I like elements from all of the designers, but the green room was my favorite. I would have made the window fit the entire back wall is the only thing I would have made.
I wish they were given rooms they had to keep the bones of. It's not giving them "the same room" if they can change the windows and ceiling beams and other details.
@@lovemesomeslippers generally , especially in ppartements,it is forbidden to change the façade . So changing the windows looked weird and unrealistic for me.
I feel like Laura's room is the most practical and calming. I LOVE that it's inviting without being distracting. I would probably add some kind of comfy seat or small daybed on wheels that I could store under the desk or on the wall after the big plant, but also move opposite the TV for a relaxing time or a change of pace.
I love how the different designs showcased the personalities of the designers. I appreciate that Alvin’s design considered that the office could double as a guest room but it was too “loud” and the TV could be distracting. Lula’s design was very comfortable but almost too cozy for a home office. I’ve never seen a home office with a fire place 😅 Laura’s was the most practical but also stylish.
alvin and luna frustrate me so much bc of their way of designing. Laura is literally bringing life to the original sample with her design, her blueprint always harmonises with my idea of interior design 🧡
I love Lula's designs cause I feel like she's having so much fun with the rooms!! I felt the same for Darren's designs (from the previos trio), he always had crazy ideas, not the most practical, and it always amazes me. Laura on the other hand is literally how a designer would design if they have an actual client, so I'm less into it (it's practical and all but I prefer when they go full artist mode)
@@alexdelaloire8739 yeah, but Darren's designs are actually what they're supposed to be regardless of his creative freedom. Lula's office is simply not an office
@@shaheerrahman4278 That's an office for me, maybe not for you but it is to me. I would work better in her office than the other two where I'll feel like I have to work and I don't like that feeling.
@@alexdelaloire8739 But what is unique about Lula's "office" ? When u look at it, it could easily be someone's room. It's just upen shelving, build-in seating and fireplace in common colors... Idk I wouldn't compare her designs to Darren at all. He was actually cool
@@lenn452 I don't compare her design's to Darren at all, I just say she seems to have fun with her designs. Also, I didn't say it was "unique", I just happen to prefer it compared to the other two.
I love the green room by Laura Hodges. It is calming, natural and functional. I love the desk around the window and the plants. Only thing missing is a cat bed around the desk because my cats always come to work with me.
i am absolutely in love with laura's design! the green color is very calm and comforting, and the wall of shelving with all that decor is creates such a nice feature and background.
Alvin’s ideas are exactly what my husband wants in his office ! A day bed, TV and simple desk facing the window and not into any open storage! For me, All three of them have ideas to take inspiration from !
@@crunchevo8974 idk if you're someone who has breaks built into your schedule, a daybed for a quick nap works wonders lmao and tv if you need to project something or put some ASMR on in the background. The wallpaper is too dramatic for me though.
Alvin's choice of colours and patterns make my eyes hurt, too many things clashing Oh dear Lula, you were told to design a home office and you turned it into a living room? People work on their laptops doesn't mean they don't need a desk. Also what's up with the fireplace in such a tiny room? Laura makes sensible design choices. Watching her in the other videos of this series I felt like she doesn't experiment much in terms of colour. Refreshing to see her make an interesting colour choice and a practical design where people can actually work.
I love Lula's design, I could have so much work done in an office like that. In Laura's office, I wouldn't be able to stay there cause it feels like like an actual office (and I hate working in an office). For Alvin, I wouldn't even put a foot in there.
@@maxstro7033 I'm glad I wasn't the only one put off by that, other people seemed to like that she was promoting her friends. Although I enjoyed how much thought she put into the shelf decorations and her explanations of them, when she brought up how her friends made them, it came across as unprofessional (imo).
A consideration that wasn’t mentioned is that you need a good background for your video meetings, along with good lighting so that you look professional on camera. The green room was great because the shelves and natural light would look fantastic in a Zoom meeting. The room with the daybed might raise some eyebrows, and the wallpaper pattern might look too busy on camera. Overall it was fun to see the different ways that the same room could be designed. It would be great to see more videos like this!
Good point. I hadn't considered it but Lula's design would struggle in video conferences since the camera would be trying to expose for both the person and the natural light in the background. It would doubly suck for people with a darker skin tone.
I actually love what Lula did for the room, I think it needs a desk but a work room with a fireplace is actually really nice in really cold places. I always have cold limbs so I love having warmth in my work place. I also spend a lot of time in the study reading so those soft couch thing seem so comfy.
As usual, Laura's space is gorgeous AND practical Lula's space is gorgeous, dreamy, it feels original and fancy but not so sure about "practical" without any desk I'm surprised by Alvin's space to be honest. I usually really love his design but this time, as practical as it was, I wouldn't be able to work or sleep there! The wall paper is a HUGE no for me.
@@Angelina_Rose It kinda came across like she just didn't want to deal with making the office work as an office so instead of designing that part she purposefully put it there to avoid it.
@@NA-du4sf I mean, in some countries and cultures, having an office is not that common. For example I don't have an office, I work in the living room with my family the aunties, parents around and the kids who come talk to me LOL. I feel so lonely in an office, it is stressing me out. So Lulu's design is perfect for my type of working process
@@alexdelaloire8739 I get what you mean, what defines an office differs from culture to culture, but considering the brief is to design an office space, it's safe to assume that having a productive at home workspace is important. Especially an individual/quiet one since the room isn't really large enough to comfortably host people. So for you, it sounds like you'd probably prefer a desk in the living room, so there wouldn't be a need to designate that room (if it was yours) as an office. Instead it might be better used for storage or as a closet or something.
I love Laura's design the most. It's very functional, practical and looks great. Although I'm not a fan of green, I really like it here especially with that giant pot plant. Would love to see her space with Alvin's wallpaper on one of the walls.
Laura's transformation actually feels like a functional home office. Alvin's design feels more like a swanky lounge to me, with the super dark wallpaper. Lula's looks like a super cramped den minus the TV.
Laura’s is the best. Holistic Interior and most functional- and a wonderful flow. I would have added some closed storage below the open shelves though for files and office supplies. Love the green box! Also great that she used the window as it was, and the L-shape desk is the most functional.
I am commenting again to beg AD for room dimensions! I love this series, But without dimensions the designers can really assume the room is any size they want. In previous episodes some designers assumed a room was massive - and some assumed it was modest ~ I specifically remember two weeks ago, one designer planning out the bedroom as if it was huge! The items she put in the room made it feel literally massive! And the other designers used realistic proportions and the room seems appropriate sized... Maybe its just me? But I really think DIMENSIONS would be greatly helpful as a viewer, and as a designer. EDIT: Its Lula! I just finished this episode, and she did it again. I understand proportions can make a room seem much bigger, But if you look at the render its even wider than the previous rooms! The sectional she used by the window? How is that realistic? It would be so tiny in real life! The way she designs the room makes it feel much bigger than it actually is - and not in a good way like, wow! you made use of this small space! - In a way where it makes me think, Does she actually understand proportion? Compare 8:51 and 9:25 / The rooms are completely different widths.
If you look at the ceiling in Lula’s picture, they actually extended the walls further in which is why it is wider than the other 2. I think they should’ve been given a rule to that they aren’t allowed to break the structures to extend it. Same goes to the previous video where one of the designers extended the ceiling in his kitchen design for the arch look.
@@RayPossibleGT I didn't notice that until you mentioned it! She often does things like that in her designs. It just takes away from the whole " one space, three designers" concept when one the the designers starts altering the size / shape of the room.
@@CaseyBleu Yeaa I had to take a closer look around to see if she actually extended the space because it does look suspiciously wider than the rest. I get that they can do whatever they want with the space but it still kinda defeats the purpose of making do what was given.
But if you look at 8:30 Alvin's image has the same proportions than Lula's. Actually it's just the picture that is zoomed in at some parts of the video, she isn't messing with the actual space. If you want to compare proportions amongst them you should do it with the "Final thoughts" section. 14:21 14:30 and 14:52. That being said I do wonder if they have a fixed set of dimensions, so that they don't go for a bigger or smaller room.
Alvin's space looks so tight lol, Lula makes extremely beautiful spaces that I would never leave and Laura makes such rational and beautiful choices spatially
Her explanation about dark colors on walls is exactly what I was thinking when I started painting my house. Painting the wall behind clothes on a small closet achieves an excellent effect
Lula seems unfamiliar with the needs of people who actually work from home full time. Maybe she has a team of people that actually work in CAD for her. Can't be her, because she didn't think a desk and external monitor were important.
She's great with texture and color but in terms of utilizing the space in terms of functionality, I have to agree. This is not a space to get work done in, let alone an office
Yes, not only a desk, but also a confortable chair!! People who work from home stay a lot of hours sitting, so you need a comfortable chair or you'll have back pain everyday
Okay, where to start. Personally Alvin's room is too busy for me. Not my cup of tea. Laura & Lula have my vote. I'm edging more towards Laura, without the green walls. Her use of plants to ground yet energise and the layout of the room works. However Lula's room has so much that works. I love it, but it's so cosy I wouldn't get any work done 😅😅 Really loving this series. Such an inspiration. More please 👍🏾🇬🇧💙
I love the way Lula divides the space in two so it doesn’t feel so much like a hallway, but it would’ve been more cleaver use something other than a gigantic fireplace! I do think her space has the nicest feel, if you don’t lit the fire of course 😆
Laura's is the most practical but Lula's is where I would want to spend time. Alvin's day bed is lovely. I wish one or Lula's panels dropped down to be a desk and revealed a monitor. It would have been nice if they talked about desk position and wall colours as it relates to virtual meetings/calls.
Imagine if instead of the fireplace she would have snugged a desk in that space. Perfectly placed, with light coming from the left (best direction for screens) and every time you get tired from sitting on a chair you can take breaks and relax on that couch.
My favourite detail in the green room is that the desk is flush against the shelf so it's more like an extention of the shelf rather than an isolated piece.
I like lulas L shaped couch so much but maybe a slim fitted table right in front facing the entrance of the room wouldve been a great add on. While I very much agree ideas flow better and freer on a comfy couch than a stiff desk chair when it’s time to actually put in the concrete work I would like a table to help with posture and have available surface area for things.
It's a brilliant idea to give an empty space and also let deferent designers fill the space ,without instructions or style to follow and how everyone of them gives a total different designs and point of view. I Love it
Maybe the brief was not specific enough but these people have certainly not designed for a real, work-at- home home office. Only one included a possibly ergonomic chair. One has the window directing glare onto a computer.
@@EvelynM-vlogs Same!! I like working while being surrounded by people, it makes me very productive cause I'm not bored by sitting on a desk. So Lula's design is perfect to me (Yes, she specified there's a desk but even without I can go with it...I'm used to work on the floor on on couches lol)
@alexdelaloire8739 the only thing I would change, is to make the tiny lounge table a pedestal one about 24" wide, and I just accidentally deleted my original comment while sitting at my dining table, so desk surfaces aren't perfect either.
I was thinking the same. As someone with a degree in OT I thought these people have not thought about ergonomics at all. I'm sure the difference in professions and personalities will affect the way a person work from home, and in some cases sitting on a couch with a laptop is doable, or watching a huge TV screen that's placed way to high on the wall might work for 30 minutes... But for people who sit in front of a computer the entire working day, a proper ergonomic desk set up where the hight of the desk, the hight of the computer screen, a good ergonomic chair (I could go on) has to be individualized to the persons (client) needs. It doesn't matter how fancy an interior is, if it's not functional. It seemed as if they didn't really get any details to follow for their assignment, so if it was just about designing a home office that they personally would use, then I can see why they chose what they chose. I found Laura's green office to be the only one that might be able to meet some ergonomic needs (minus the TV screen) if it was for a person working all day on their laptop. Alvin's design seemed better for people who don't actually work from home but prefer to have an office space for the rare occasion they do need to work on their computer at home and wanted to use it as a guest room in addition to that. Lula's design felt more like a small library where you could get creative, sit and read, but not use it for a full workday of computer work.. So I guess it would all depend on the client and if that person actually needed an office for 100% desk work.
@primrosedahlia9466 I thought the best way to work ergonomically was to NOT sit in a chair for very long. That would def be the end of my back's ability to continue on with other projects for the rest of the day.
And you're absolutely right about not sitting too long in front of a computer. it's adviced to find a work routine that works for you, like taking breaks in between and go for a walk around the office to get something to drink, do some light stretches etc, whatever makes your body feel comfortable and is accepted where you work. There are huge differences between companies and how they deal with stuff like this. But the problem is that a lot of people are so stressed out that they forget to do that and work for long intervals and with poor posture. But ergonomics is important. If you get a good chair/table etc and those are the right height for you - then it's much easier to sit in front of a computer than if you don't have that
I absolutely LOVE what Laura said about how she designs her spaces to promote wellness and a good state of mind. To me, this is what good design is all about! She seems like such a wonderful designer and person. ☺️
I really liked the actual office in green, because of it's practical layout. The one with the chimney is fantastic but not really an office. And the one with the wallpaper is truly elegant, but lacks shelving. Each design has its own strengths. Thank you for your creativity.
Fascinating that two of them didn’t work with the room they had (you know, what interior designers get paid to do) and not only made a home office into a space not even nearly useful to work in, no, they changed crucial structural elements. They moved a window and pillars.
The lady in the purple designed an office without a desk? She did not read the assignment. An example of the designer's personal opinion overshadowing function.
She did mention at first that the desk was at the entrance and can’t be seen from the angle we’re looking at. The room is beautiful Nd as someone mentioned, the fireplace is unnecessary specially in such a small space and the desk could have been place there instead.
@@idorski9979 it a easy and lame excuse to make on her side, she don't want to make a office so she tell the desk it out of frame...she miss the challenge on many point...it a living room not a office and please who change a window like that, it a very expansive change for Notting...
I am here again after watching the bedroom one. Alvin designs for hotels, I like Lula's warmth and comfort but it needs a desk. Laura is the most professional and appealing again. :D
I think Laura's is the most comfortable as an actual work space. Alvin's is great for a more masculine professional vibe. Lula's is a beautiful space but feels more ambiguous,, like a narrow hangout space, but not really as functional as a guest bedroom or office. I love the built in bench and how Lula used the space by the window though.
Lulas designs are really out of the box! A fireplace, who would've really expected that. Maybe an office to get inspiration from for creative fields...
Laura's green room was gorgeous! She had me at wall-length bookshelves and continued positively from there. I loved Alvin's wall paper and Lula's wrap-around sofa, but overall, Laura's office would be a dream for me.
I think Laura got the closest to the prompt of a home office. Lula's felt like a parlor or sitting room that somebody decided to work in and Alvin's felt like there was an office space in a guest room. All three designs look straight out of a magazine and they're all clearly talented. Props to Alvin for not moving the window though, that felt a little close to pushing the limits of what would be possible if a client asked you to design a home office in a room like this.
I like how supportive they are of each other. Loving the green with shelves floor to ceiling, loving the fireplace and light oak floors, loving the wallpaper but only around the window or on the ceiling, I would change the day bed to be enclosed in a narrow cabinet vertically on its side to let down for company as a bed. Desk under the window facing out, or pulled forward with window behind - wonderful light for working.
Omg! Choosing a favorite for this one was hard- I truly love elements of all three. Laura’s design is practical and includes a screen which is important for me personally and can’t forget plants in a workspace! However, that day bed is luxurious & I need a fireplace in my office now 😅 Love it all!
I thought Alvin's room would be absolutely fantastic as a high end spa massage room or for a very fancy physiotherapy room. I definitely wouldn't choose it for an office, but I liked his vibe and aesthetic nonetheless.
I would have put one floor to ceiling mirror on the wall on the right or to the left, to help expand the sense of width of the room. I’m really actually shocked that none of these three thought of that. There’s a way you can do this and still be very tasteful.
Yes! Plus when the natural light from the window hits the mirror on the wall, it would really light up the space nicely. Even if they needed to put shelving over the top of the mirror for storage, it would still give the illusion of a wider space.
Any room with a fireplace is for me but maybe not in there. I never would have thought about a built-in in a room that small but I think I’m going to try it along with Lauras design, she nailed it!
This is a cool exercise. The only space I think I would not be able to work in for long is Lula's, which is a pity beacause I actually love the way it looks. Having a lounge corner is very nice to relax and have ideas, but in order to develop those ideas, I need a good ergonomic chair and a desk.

Lula idea is amazing, for a tiny space you need to get a lot of lights and white colors. The best step to get the best option is to try 3d modeling and rendering. Good job
It would be so nice if you could provide us with the raw renders of the spaces so we could try our alternatives, too!
What wallpaper was used? Love it!
Super cool to watch how three designers turned a home office into a hotel room, a living room, and a home office.

I really can’t decide on any of them and this is the first time in one of these videos
I feel like Laura is the only one that made an actual office. I don't know why Lula would think to put a hot azz fireplace in a small room and Alvin made the room feel so congested.
I agree. The only place I can imagine sitting in for hours and hours. Also, why would I need a daybed or fireplace when working in a tiny room?
She just wanted to make a lounge.

Lula was like "all the office stuff is out of the frame, trust me bro"
Alvin is just out here ignoring the point of the video itself haha
When Lula said "let's keep the table out of the picture for the office", it was like saying let's not put the cooking appliances in the kitchen".
Exactly. Lula did not focus on the task. Instead, she got sidetracked by vases, sculptures, and fireplaces.
Lula putting the actual work stuff out of frame was such a cop out 😅
Perfect comment, nothing more to add
@@jason_ramos Yes I watch this!
Yes exactly! Minus the spoiler thumbnails but that’s to be worked on
Not sure what country you're in but the Great Interior Design Challenge was a British show a few years ago, really good
There is, Interior Design as the others have mentioned
Im surprised none of them did a bigger window for more lighting. I’d do the window wall into a whole wall window
That’s architecture. Not interior design
@@tahaks they changed the window from the right to the left, moved the door and eliminated built-in furniture… they could’ve put in a bigger window 🤡
My office is the exact same layout and I turned my window into a door sized one.
Same thought bc in other episode they are changing the wall too. Also, i would move the orientation of the desk not to the wall but to the space. So we won't work with empty long space behind.
I was waiting for the same too
Alvin and Lula lost me a bit by moving the window: that is not often an option in remodeling interior space, and it seemed so impractical as to be a “cheat” on the design constraints. I liked the color scheme of Lula’s room best, but I think Laura designed the best office workspace. Great video.
i think lulu and alvin moved the window to be across from the entry door-wouldve been simpler to reframe the door.
Even if it is an option for them in these videos, there was some sort of column there I think - or something that belonged to another room, but it's closed off. Whatever it was, didn't seem like it could just be eliminated, it's even worse than moving a window!
Same. Lula’s color scheme to me was the best.
Lulu’s was my favorite but everything at the fireplace and after ruined it. Instead of a hot fireplace in a tiny room (no air circulation for a fire), I would have put the desk there, a circle mirror above it and two wall sconces on each side
For me Laura's home office was the best by far. In Lula's I was just thinking about the back of a person who just works with the laptop over the lap
She mentioned the desk is in front where the camera can’t see
She could have added an ergonomic chair, and have choice in seating
@@marshall3n that's just bizarre. What, if not the desk, is the most central feature of an OFFICE?!
Lula cheated. Her right wall has recessed shelving making the room bigger. You can't create space where none exists
Lol, I was thinking "How old is she? Come back in 20 years and we'll talk dear!" 😂 And a tiny desk? Really? All three of them were using more table space for this video than what she built in the "office"!
Im surprised none of designs featured a wall folding desk. Love all the spaces but Laura’s feels the most functional and where I would get the most work done.
came here to say the same re folding desk.
This too! It’s a great way to make use of a small space without taking away from the little space you already have
@@janesmith7288 I agree the green is a little depressing. Especially because she painted the ceiling the same color. I like Lulus color palette (excepting the fireplace) but its a very cool study lounge at best for me.
Edit: open shelving keeps me from cluttering lol
Why put a folding desk into an office? You are supposed to useyour desk most of the time that you spent in this room.
I do feel like Laura was the only one who was realistic. Like if when you call an interior designer, he will magically move your window and put a fireplace???? This is almost impossible without intensive change to your whole house.
NO RESTRICTIONS
The fireplace room, does it even have a desk? XD
There is nowhere to sit to view the fire place.
@@jeanduranko4157 the room is like 50 square feet 😅
You dont need to move your window, gosh, just mirror the design.
I really like watching episodes like this. Of all the designs I feel like Laura's space is the one I would prefer to have as my office space. AD, thanks for sharing.
I love her design too, it’s so clever of her not to require a window move in order to make her design work
Me either. ❤ Laura’s design!
Which one is Laura, the green one or the fireplace one.
@@rianamohamed300 green one!
@@Rubyisgrowing yep, hers was most practical
We need a real, human, working middle class person to grade these because I want points deducted for moving windows, lack of desk, random daybed nobody asked for, etc. Like it would look beautiful in a magazine but that's where it ends for everyone except Laura. Shout out Laura.
Architectural Digest for working middle class?😂😂😂
Yep, the point I am making above (though I tend to go on for massively longer). This is an issue with many designers and interior decorators today: all style (real or perceived), little substance or practicality.
And Laura moved the door to the right, which I would think is a much cheaper option than moving the window to the left.
Agree completely
Lula said she is putting in a desk out of the frame where you can't see it in the pic
Totally noticed that! And anyone going to talk about Lula saying she didn’t add a tv-completely missing the need for a monitor?? Lol
@@AmericanAsylum”I didn’t put a TV in the room. Maybe because I’m not American.” Yeah, Lula certainly came across as a tad arrogant…
i was looking for this comment... she barely even looked at laura the whole time. not a fan lol
This is exactly what I was thinking. So snotty for no reason
@@AmericanAsylum Yes, "I didn't add a TV, I'm not an American" was a snide and unnecessary comment.
I hope someone purchases a piece of art from Lulu's friends. She worked hard highlighting their pieces, but the room wasn't an office space. Alvin, sir, that was the hippest guest room ever but office space, no. Laura created an office space. She clearly understood the assignment.
Agreed! Laura was the only one that created an actual, functional office.
I caught that too. She plugged everybody. Not everyone likes zodiac signs showcased.
@@mommymarine1756 the zodiac signs were awful.
I prefer the green room, l-shaped desk and wall of shelves.
It was the best for me as well. The other 2 look great but not as functional.
I like elements from all of the designers, but the green room was my favorite. I would have made the window fit the entire back wall is the only thing I would have made.
The only thing with that room I didn't like were te amount of open shelves and the amount of time you would spend to dust them off
I wish they were given rooms they had to keep the bones of. It's not giving them "the same room" if they can change the windows and ceiling beams and other details.
They were hired as interior designers, not home remodelers.
@@valhallamcgaughey3720 exactly my point!
@@valhallamcgaughey3720 interior designers move windows. But I do agree that, for a challenge, the specs shouldn’t change.
Yeah I realized when she removed the window in that tiny room. Thought that was interesting
@@lovemesomeslippers generally , especially in ppartements,it is forbidden to change the façade . So changing the windows looked weird and unrealistic for me.
Laura definetely won me over, added bonus is that she doesn't made me move a freaking window. Alvin way to add "drama" is top notch.
Laura made all the right choices in this episode. Amazing office space. Beautiful and practical
My take away: someone created a good small guest bedroom, someone made a nice office, and someone mad a nice small apartment living room lol
Lol 👍
Spot on 😅
Lol exactly 🤣. I just thought I could be an interior designer, I would nail it better than they did 😬
Literally!! 🤣🤣🤣
Put all three together and you have an apartment! (Almost)
I am always inspired by Lauras' work, She is such a professional!
alvin and luna frustrate me so much bc of their way of designing.

For me, All three of them have ideas to take inspiration from !
but really it's much more of a guest room with a desk lol. i mean cmon now lets not delude ourselves
@@crunchevo8974 idk if you're someone who has breaks built into your schedule, a daybed for a quick nap works wonders lmao and tv if you need to project something or put some ASMR on in the background. The wallpaper is too dramatic for me though.
Alvin's choice of colours and patterns make my eyes hurt, too many things clashing
Oh dear Lula, you were told to design a home office and you turned it into a living room? People work on their laptops doesn't mean they don't need a desk. Also what's up with the fireplace in such a tiny room?
Laura makes sensible design choices. Watching her in the other videos of this series I felt like she doesn't experiment much in terms of colour. Refreshing to see her make an interesting colour choice and a practical design where people can actually work.
🤝we have a very similar feeling about this
she was busy promoting her art & decor she forgot the assignment
I love Lula's design, I could have so much work done in an office like that. In Laura's office, I wouldn't be able to stay there cause it feels like like an actual office (and I hate working in an office). For Alvin, I wouldn't even put a foot in there.
@@maxstro7033 I'm glad I wasn't the only one put off by that, other people seemed to like that she was promoting her friends. Although I enjoyed how much thought she put into the shelf decorations and her explanations of them, when she brought up how her friends made them, it came across as unprofessional (imo).
Laura’s design is very useful for people who needs more than just a laptop. I dream with this space 🥺✨
The green room looks fantastic and real. Other ones seem out of touch to me though i love the idea of the day bed 😅
Laura's space is to me the best! No nonsense (like, moving a window, why?), has plants, very functional and elegant.
It would be great to see more videos like this!
great point ! also for zoom facing the window is ideal
👏🏾 👏🏾 👏🏾
Can't the green walls reflect on your skin, changing your natural skin tone?
Excellent point.
As usual, Laura's space is gorgeous AND practical
Lula's space is gorgeous, dreamy, it feels original and fancy but not so sure about "practical" without any desk
I'm surprised by Alvin's space to be honest. I usually really love his design but this time, as practical as it was, I wouldn't be able to work or sleep there! The wall paper is a HUGE no for me.
Lula said the desk would be at the entrance of the space, and that's why it's not shown. Not the best placement for a desk imo.
@@NA-du4sf I agree! After all, no client!
Same goes to the previous video where one of the designers extended the ceiling in his kitchen design for the arch look.
very this!
Lulu's aesthetically wise was my favorite but Laura's really felt like a home office, a place you can sit and work.
yeah... it's a cozy livingroom with no tv and less of an office though.
Alvin's space looks so tight lol, Lula makes extremely beautiful spaces that I would never leave and Laura makes such rational and beautiful choices spatially
Always love seeing Laura's work ❤️. Much respect to the other designers as well, this is a great series. 👏🏾
These three designers are PERFECT to compare and contrast. This video format is FASCINATING and so paradigm-expanding. Thank you to all.
Her explanation about dark colors on walls is exactly what I was thinking when I started painting my house. Painting the wall behind clothes on a small closet achieves an excellent effect
I’d love to have Laura’s design for my home office! Beautiful!
Two of the were so casual about moving the window. Holy cow!
Lula seems unfamiliar with the needs of people who actually work from home full time. Maybe she has a team of people that actually work in CAD for her. Can't be her, because she didn't think a desk and external monitor were important.
Yea, the design seems a bit pretentious. And no shade, but all of Lula's designs seem out of touch to me.
She's great with texture and color but in terms of utilizing the space in terms of functionality, I have to agree. This is not a space to get work done in, let alone an office
I disagree, her designs are breathable, a feeling of freedom, one that can allow for proper rest and creativity
Yes, not only a desk, but also a confortable chair!! People who work from home stay a lot of hours sitting, so you need a comfortable chair or you'll have back pain everyday
I mean at the start of the video they do emphasize no rules or clients. So this is what she would do if she didn’t have to consider realism
Laura's is my favorite. It's also the most accessible. People of almost any budget would be able to achieve that look.
Okay, where to start. Personally Alvin's room is too busy for me. Not my cup of tea.
Laura & Lula have my vote. I'm edging more towards Laura, without the green walls. Her use of plants to ground yet energise and the layout of the room works. However Lula's room has so much that works. I love it, but it's so cosy I wouldn't get any work done 😅😅
Really loving this series. Such an inspiration. More please 👍🏾🇬🇧💙
I love that u added the flag🤭 REPP
I love the way Lula divides the space in two so it doesn’t feel so much like a hallway, but it would’ve been more cleaver use something other than a gigantic fireplace! I do think her space has the nicest feel, if you don’t lit the fire of course 😆
Laura's is the most practical but Lula's is where I would want to spend time. Alvin's day bed is lovely. I wish one or Lula's panels dropped down to be a desk and revealed a monitor. It would have been nice if they talked about desk position and wall colours as it relates to virtual meetings/calls.
Agreed, also with a normal long desk instead of the sofa, it’d be close to perfect.
Imagine if instead of the fireplace she would have snugged a desk in that space. Perfectly placed, with light coming from the left (best direction for screens) and every time you get tired from sitting on a chair you can take breaks and relax on that couch.
I love ADs choice of designers. They all have drastically different design principles and have people polarized about which ones better. So clever.
However you feel about the individual designs, I love that these designers remind us we can go bold in small spaces
I Love it
replace the fireplace with the desk and Lula has my favorite design!
Laura is always OP in these "challenges". She always makes spaces I would actually love to be in.
Wow great work by all three, my favorite is Lula's design apart from the fireplace, she did an awesome job. Laura and Alvin's design are great too
I don't care for green but that's the best design in my opinion for an actual office. Plenty of storage, work space and a beautiful room.
It’s so crazy how when given a blank canvas we all come up with different visions. They were all so good! ❤
Wow, all 3 killed it. I love each room for a different reason. Great series, and I feel like I learned a lot watching these videos.
I really liked the actual office in green, because of it's practical layout. The one with the chimney is fantastic but not really an office. And the one with the wallpaper is truly elegant, but lacks shelving. Each design has its own strengths. Thank you for your creativity.
I like the middle. ALL in one utility, office and cohesiveness of the deisgn.
Laura all the way, it's so warm and inviting. Functional to work in. I'd add some macrame and a comfortable seating space
Fascinating that two of them didn’t work with the room they had (you know, what interior designers get paid to do) and not only made a home office into a space not even nearly useful to work in, no, they changed crucial structural elements. They moved a window and pillars.
Laura’s design 😍 gorgeous, applying natural factors to an office space will definitely help with productivity.
Love them. All the rooms hit the brief in different ways. They all make the space so much larger and soooo much more functional.
Loved Laura's space. It's functional and very attractive without the unnecessary elements of a fireplace and a day bed.
Three very different designs..all beautifully executed. I love to see the finished rooms from these three designers!!
Lula's office is going to get so hot with that fireplace in there. Such a tiny space? Hard no. Laura's looks the most comfortable and practical.
You have a good point about the fireplace being on in such a small space. It would definitely get hot even in winter.
I love the representation of three different work experiences and personalities. Alvin’s gives me therapist home office vibes.
I'd absolutely hate going to work everyday if my home office looked like the one Alvin put together O.O It looks like a prison cell.
I like it. That’s a room that has to be seen in person.
I thought prison cell too!!!!!
@@IGuess... I thought it looked like a room in a monestery. It even had a sort of a cross on the unit.
I thought Alvin's room would be absolutely fantastic as a high end spa massage room or for a very fancy physiotherapy room. I definitely wouldn't choose it for an office, but I liked his vibe and aesthetic nonetheless.
@@AndoCommando1000 yes, spa vibes is what came to mind.
I would have put one floor to ceiling mirror on the wall on the right or to the left, to help expand the sense of width of the room. I’m really actually shocked that none of these three thought of that. There’s a way you can do this and still be very tasteful.
I agree with you...i am also thinking that...why none of them are not focused on this..
Yes! Plus when the natural light from the window hits the mirror on the wall, it would really light up the space nicely. Even if they needed to put shelving over the top of the mirror for storage, it would still give the illusion of a wider space.
Green is a peaceful, relaxing colour. I need productivity so I can finish up efficiently and get the heck out of my office and enjoy the rest of life.
I’m always so excited when another installment in this series drops. So inspiring and thought provoking. Keep them coming, AD!
Number two is nice - but, I prefer the green design. I love the straight shelving.
I really liked many parts of each office! Very fun to watch.
The green room is gorgeous. Very usable, attractive, and usable.
I really enjoy watching these three and their designs slowly coming together.
Any room with a fireplace is for me but maybe not in there. I never would have thought about a built-in in a room that small but I think I’m going to try it along with Lauras design, she nailed it!
From those 3, I would hire Laura cause she's the only one who's done a real office. And I quite like it.
The green one is the best office but the one with the fireplace would be a nice (but tiny) living room.
Laura's design is beyond perfect, good ideas fromt he other two designers, but Lauras considerations and end results are hands down, best in class.
Laura, please design my whole house ! Each time I see you design one of these spaces, I fall in love.
I like Lula's best. Feels really inviting and somwhere you can dwell comfortably
This is a cool exercise. The only space I think I would not be able to work in for long is Lula's, which is a pity beacause I actually love the way it looks. Having a lounge corner is very nice to relax and have ideas, but in order to develop those ideas, I need a good ergonomic chair and a desk.
