Mick: "My least favorite Tube Screamer."
    Dan: "Really! Why's that?"
Mick: "We're about to find out."
Honestly, I don't know what I love more about this show - the playing or the banter. I suppose the gear and knowledge thereof are also alright as well. ;)
    Ace episode as always, gents!

Continuum was a keeley ts808..he acquired the ts10s a year later just before the Where the light is concert as a gift from Renne his (SRV's) guitar tech :)

Fascinating piece of information/knowledge! I’ve been a huge TS-808 fan going back a long time before we have all of the pedals we have today. I’ve had every iteration except for the TS-10 which I actually just purchased because I really think I overlooked for a lot of years. I’m looking forward to testing it out and seeing if it becomes my new favorite pedal. I may look into the Keeley 808 now too!

Revisiting this episode (holeee Moses - that Sidecar!), I realised that I'd rather watch old episodes of TPS than most television shows. I haven't been playing much lately. Paused the ep after that chord that Dan schwanged on the Hudson at 36:47 and played my 335 for 2 hours straight.
    Thx TPS.

I use to play Eddie’s Attic in Atlanta GA USA many years ago and one of the guys who took up advance sale tickets was a very young John Mayer. He helped me with my guest list many times. I had no idea he even played guitar. Me being a fiddler as well as an electric guitarist.....he seemed to be fascinated by my blues rock style on the fiddle. We are talking a lot of years back as I am 59 almost 60. At the time I didn’t even know he played guitar

    • @fiddlix
      @fiddlix 6 лет назад +6

I think the year I got to know him was around 1998 or so. He seemed to be extremely humble back then. I’m sure he is now. He was really in to the fact that I use to play with the late great Jerry Reed in the early to mid eighties. John is such a mega-talent. I just love his playing and singing. One of my favorite artists.......no question about it.

I always keep going back to my vintage 1980 TS808. To me, vintage is king. Analogman Silver Mod TS9 is a very, very good modern compromise. Wish you guys had the TS808HW in this one. It's a different tonal take on the tube screamer. Very warm, would sound great for fusion guitar.

This might not be a popular opinion, but I think the best sound of the whole video was the RYRA 808. It has a little more life and sparkle than the TS808 and even the JHS. You guys really came to life as players when it came on- like, it inspired you. It sounded like a TS, but just a really good one with a touch of "magic" so to speak. That said, I doubt I'm going to buy one...

Back in the nineties I bought a distortion pedal, which was my only guitar pedal until like two years ago when I started playing electric a bit more again. Only when I started watching guitar gear RUclips videos I checked what that pedal actually was - a Tubescreamer TS10 :) I was a bit disappointed that it wasn’t the famous original TS, but it’s still a nice pedal.

So glad to see the SD-1w on there. I thought it a bit odd that the Bonsai would have the OD-1 and not the SD-1.

Matt Stanley YMMV, but to me SD-1 > all the others.

JHS explains in other videos that the OD1 was really the first TS pedal, hence its inclusion and not the SD1.

The SD-1 was my first pedal ever (back in the mid 90s) and it still is my favorite overdrive. I had a feeling but I didn't realize how similar to the tube screamer it is.

Just get the Bonsai. You will have different Tube Screamers for different rooms & amps. Its really good. Spot-on. Check-out Andy Martin's Demo - going 1 on 1 Bonsai vs. Actual Pedals. Pretty Impressive. ( and I am a Fulltone OCD guy )

I don’t know how I missed this show. Great playing, Mick! I absolutely love my TS-10. It’s my favorite TS; I’ve had the 808, TS-9 (modded and unmodded) and a TS-5. I recently built a 10 clone and in some ways like it better. It’s like a boutique TS-10 with mods. But there is something about the 10 that the clone doesn’t have. Funny, I feel I still need both. Haha

Suggestion for a possible future show: Different types of Clipping - symmetrical, asymmetrical, op-amp, etc...

I recently bought a Bonsai, and it is truly phenomenal. The XR and TS9 settings are my favorites, used in low gain settings with the clean channel on the amp driven to just before breakup.

@fastguitar i find that each and every one of the screamers reproduced here is excellent in its own way. I still prefer those two because they do it for me: low gain boost with amazing transparency, letting a good sounding guitar keep its individuality.

Nice video!! After this, you can do a video about a "transparent" overdrive, like BD-2, Timmy, Klon, or something like that..! Cheers guys! Ciao!
