I would highly recommend doing a clarifying shampoo and deep conditioning those locs. I always water down my conditioner with locs so it doesn’t get stuck in the hair. Also, stay away from beeswax, gels, and products that put a coating on the hair. They get stuck in the locs and prevent them from receiving moisture.
I put warm water, and almond oil in a spray bottle with just two drops of tea tree oil after I moisturize my hair, and use a styling cream to do two strand twists. My two favorite lines to use are Camille Rose and Cream of Nature Honey line...
THANK YOU! Your videos have been a wealth of knowledge for me. I’ve been so frustrated with my natural hair for the last couple of years. As I’ve been watching many of your videos, I’ve been learning what I’ve been doing wrong or what I haven’t been doing that I should be. I’ve been implementing what I’ve learned and now need to be patient on this new hair journey.
THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO JUST SIT DOWN AND DO THESE VIDEOS IN SUCH DETAIL !!! DO YOU EVER GET TIRED OF TALKING ABOUT HAIR ? IT'S LIKE YOUR CELEBRITY AND YOU'RE ON TOUR AND YOU HAVE TO KEEP SINGING THE SAME SONGS OVER AND OVER BUT WE ( THE AUDIENCE) NEVER NEVER GET TIRED OF HEARING IT !!! YOU ARE DEFINITELY A CELEBRITY IN MY BOOK ! THANK YOU AND ALLISON SO MUCH FOR ALL OF THIS INFORMATION SO WE CAN REALLY TAKE CARE OF OUR HAIR ESPECIALLY DOING THIS PANDEMIC. GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR BEAUTIFUL FAMILY ! ✝️🙏🏽😊💙💙💙💙
I would love to hear about natural moisturizers. I am transitioning (by myself) so I try to moisturize both textures differently and it's been working so far but I would love to try natural products. Thanks for all of your wonderful tips!
I grew up with no women to teach me anything and since having children myself the past 5 years I've lost myself and I've been watching your videos since coming out depression you've taught me so much how to take care of my looks THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
Will you please do more videos on relaxed hair? Do you have any suggestions on relaxed hair products that are natural and/or salon quality that's budget friendly? Also tips on maintaining and growing relaxed hair.
I have 2C -3B, fine, low density, high porosity hair. I have struggled with dryness, breakage since I was 12 yrs old. I am Caucasian and live in a rural community. I am 45 years old now and in all the years I have only met one professional stylist who has the slightest knowledge about embracing curls. Stylists would "encourage" my hair to be worn straight. Its frustrating.. Its a blessing for me to be able to advocate for myself and find wonderful people like you who is willing to share their expertise. Currently, I am in love with the Shea Moisture High Porosity mask and gel. I also use the SM Moisture Retention Shampoo and Conditioner. I need to add a lightweight, creamy styler. Do you have suggestions? Again, Thanks!!! I am on the right course to loving and embracing my hair!
That is awesome! If you are looking for a styling cream and you already enjoy the Shea Moisture line, they have a curl milk in their coconut hibiscus curl line (peachy label) that you may rather enjoy. I also really like Beautiful Textures moisture butter.
Wow that sounds like my hair, but 3b-3c. They discontinued the Shea Moisture High Porosity mask!! I am trying to find something like it. The coconut hibiscus is ok. But nothing like that High Porosity mask.
Love your channel. My hair is 4c, white, high porosity, thin, fragile, and short. Love your teachings and information. Also love diy and natural moisturizer and conditioning.
Linwood... I love you! You’re adorable, funny & informative. May you & your family be blessed! My hair has fallen out sooo much, it’s depressing. Since I found you, I’ve been following your instructions❤️ So far so good. “What the hello kiddie” 🤣🤣
I watched this video like I was sitting in college lecture. I even told the kid to shush. Lol. This was very informative, thanks so much for the helpful tips. My question is: of the products you mentioned, which would work best for head of hair that has drastically varying textures? My hair is pretty loose curl and fine textured on the outskirts. But my crown is tighter coils and far more dense.
Thank You for sharing the moisturizing tips with us. I forgot about infusion 23. I used to use it years ago.The spaghetti does sound good.LoL my daughter is suppose to make baked spaghetti next week. I'm glad you're feeling better. Bless you and Alison and kids.
Thanks for the information . Now for a trip to the store . I need to rescue my hair. It has been having some real issues lately. I picked up the Shea High Porosity masque and sealant but they wear out of leave in conditioner. Now you gave me more options, thank you.
Thank you Linwood. This is the video that answers my questions about hair moisturization. It's not too much information and I could identify a few of the categories that you mentioned. Again Linwood thanks so much for sharing your expertise and knowledge as a trained professional. Blessings.
Hey, Linwood! Can u please do a vid on hair mask, bentonite clay pre-poo's, & essiential oils i.e. coconut, almond, tea tree, olive just to mention a few(k, that was more than a few)! Thanks a bunch!👍
Please do a video on natural ways to add moisture to your hair. i'd rather use natural products on my natural hair when possible. By the way I love your videos.
Thank you for the information. I'm still learning on how to care for my daughter's hair. I have a question once it's styled, how do I keep it moisturized? After a couple of days it's starts to get dry and frizzy even though she has a bonnet on at night. And how long should styles stay in for? Thank you so much!
+Jezlie Rosario the time the styles last will depend on her fabric of hair, my oldest daughters is the same way. I often will must it with water mixed with a bit of aloe Vera just to help out with keeping the moisture balance high. Typically I allow her styles to last between 4days and a week
Thank you for these tips. Before I found your video this evening I shaved my head AGAIN wanting to start over. I’ve learned a lot about moisturizers ... THANK YOU. Now I know what to do from here on out. BTW I also deal with scarring alopecia so I’m trying to protect the follicles and hair that I have left. But if all else fails I’ll just rock my bald head😉
Linwood you’re a God send! You have a true gift for educating! Question about protein...when wanting to add protein back into the hair, what do you suggest? Not only do I have fine hair, it is thin as well. I had gastric bypass 7 years ago and I only mention that bc I know in the hair world it is common for people who’ve had weight loss surgery to experience hair loss and breakage due to the inability to fully absorb nutrients from food (like PROTEIN!!) I’ve made the mistake of thinking moisture equaled protein in trying to help with breakage and then, well, made my hair into a wet noodle 🤦🏽♀️ I need your help!!!
Excellent question! Ok, so the hair is composed of 20 separate amino acids, with 9 of those naturally occurring. The other 11 amino acids come from our diet. I’ll deal more with that portion momentarily. If you are needing to increase the strength of your hair externally, you can use a quality product line for strength, like “extreme” by redken, or a restorative masque like Shea Moistures restorative masque. Internally speaking, with the decreased size of the stomach, it’s important to consume more easy to digest, protein rich foods. One of the easiest ways to do this is by making a smoothie each day that has a vitamin packed superfood like kale, Irish sea moss, or moringa (in order from least impactful to most impactful) with a bit of fruit for sweetness if you like. Not only are fruits and veggies easier to digest, they are lower in calories, lower on the glycemic index, and many vegetables are actually just as protein rich, if not more so than meats, etc. Navigating through health foods can be difficult, there is a lot of information that has been fed to us in terms of what is best and what isn’t , and one of those things is that “we need to consume meat for protein” which is interesting, considering that most of the animals we consume, are herbivores by nature. When deep conditioning the hair, be sure to utilize a small amount of heat, and rinse your conditioner with a cooler temperature of water. I hope this helps answer your questions! If not, just let me know! Have a blessed and wonderful day!
GlamFam thank you! Grateful for your knowledge and willingness to share!! I got the external part, now to focus harder on what I’m putting IN my body! Thanks!!
GlamFam I love this response. I am a plant based eater(mainly vegan) and I tell people all the time about the meat their eating are mainly vegan and they are vegan by proxy. The look on their face when they realize that is amazing.
Well here I go, I found you sometime ago and am so happy as I watch all your videos. Doing a wonderful job helping those who just don’t know what to do with their hair. I really could use some one on one as my hair is gray, as in salt n’pepper. All this time until-watching your videos I have been putting the wrong products on my hair. My hair is thin and fine , always dry and wiry looking. It is upsetting when I look in the mirror. But if I wet it water or gel I have a slick hair look. Where and how can I get a hair analysis? I brought recently ION moisturizer leave in conditioner and the mousse by ION. Been using cremes up to this point. So saying all this to say I am experimenting now that I have found you. Thank you 🙏🏿, thank you 🙏🏿 for your time and effort putting these videos out. You are doing a magnificent job. Excellent teacher just don’t stop what you’re doing. ❤
Hi Linwood! QUESTION: Is it normal that my hair needs moisturizing nearly every day? AS INFO: The color-treated section of my hair is high porosity; the remainder seems to be medium porosity. I wrap my hair in a silk scarf for sleeping. For daily moisturizing, I usually apply aloe vera gel followed by a hair milk or cream, then jojoba oil. I shampoo & condition every 7-10 days. Please help. Thank you for informative videos!
With highly porous hair, yes, that is especially normal. That is the downside of color treating and chemical services. Thank you for the additional information on your hair! It makes answering questions like this much simpler! 💚💚
Great! You mentioned letting the scalp produce it's own natural oils. Am I wrong in applying Grapeseed directly to my scalp? It seems to help with reoccuring symtoms(dermatitis).
@@GetGlamFam OMG if you could make a vid about this! I have been struggling to find the right products and regimen for YEARS now experiencing a flare up and all veg/nut based oils create probs on my scalp only, but no where else!
This is so helpful. I am going to back to cosmetology school in January and I am trying to learn as much from u as I can. I have 1080 hrs and just have to finish. What I never understood though was what actually makes the cuticle open and close. I know chemicals make them open and conditioners close them but thats it. You are also right about our community thinking water dries our hair out because I thought that for over 20 years lol. I am just now getting hip that it is moisturizing. Please let me know what opens and closes the cuticle. Thanks
Thank you Linwood, very informative. I Love all your videos by the way. I'm a newbie w a tender headed 2 year old. I THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR DETAILED! VIDOES YOUR JUST AMAZING!!!
Great videos! Can you please do a video on protein treatment. Which ones to use or even if they should be used. Or which products to use that contain protein that can be used as a treatment or as maintenance. I have ran in to so much conflicting information about it. Thank you!
+Tiffany Dixon protein can be very dangerous if you don’t know how to use it, which is why you are finding so much conflicting information with it. Think of it this way: Fire can give light and heat, and energy, but uncontrolled fire can burn you and level forests, houses and the like. Protein requires proper education
Can you please do a sit down video about how to deep condition and products you recommend for deep conditioning? I want to do this before figuring out how much I need to trim as you recommended.
Please do a series of videos how to care for graying hair. Most of us who started watching videos 20 years ago have finally accepted to keep and maintain our gray hair. I have fine and high porosity hair. Type 4 A-C.
So was there a video on natural moisturizer? I'm transitioning and looking to see if you have any videos tips or whatever. These videos are really helping me. Thank you for the truth :)
I'm really enjoying these informative videos. Always on the lookout for products for fine hair naturals. I hadn't heard of Infusium 23 but love Beautiful textures leave in and butter. Good job 😀
I'm not sure if you have already but can you please do a video explaining how to properly moisturize hair in braids or sengalese twists. I notice my hair grows best in those styles length and thickness wise so I try doing those styles every few months and leaving it in for at least two weeks. But I'm struggling to make sure my hair is moisturized properly under the synthetic hair.
I have tried alot of products 3 days later my hair is dry and no length but when I put the care free curl gel on my hair the next day its amazingly soft and feels healthy ...I dont know what product would work for me
This was awesome. You may have one already, I am still viewing videos but can you list what we should use on our scalps to help moisturize out hair if we are relaxed and natural? ( I’m relaxed and my daughter is natural)
Hi ! Thank you so much for all this information I apréciate your time sharing all this important stuff . I am new in this industry and have struggled with color formulation Can you do some videos about that especially how formulate on virgin hair of how many levels up to get the right color . Thank you so much , all the bless for you and family 🙏
Katherine Miller girl you know that you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make them drink! The one who disliked this video was like, "Nah, this is just too much edumacation for me," lol!
I love your channel, I have learned a lot and also have great laughes. I have hard water, what to recommend I use when rehydrating my hair when refreshing a wash n go?
I’m using Paul Mitchell Awapuii spray and grease on my scalp. I seal the shaft before I put it up in my style. Lawd! When he told us the protective styles should protect the 3Ps I heard him.
Im on youtube today trying to fix a bad texture softener on my daughter's hair... your videos are so clear, concise and professional!!! Love it!!! Also, which haur cutting sheers do you recommend for cutting the split ends?
Hi Linwood, I really appreciate the information you shared with us in this video! I wash my hair sometimes once or twice a week and in between washes, to rehydrate my hair, I apply the oil, butter and styling gel first, then I spray that section with water and retwist (O.C.S.L.). What's the drawback of this sequence, if any, compared to the other methods (L.O.C., L.C.O.)? I feel like the products are locked in my hair if I apply the liquid at the end.
+Lynn Bernard you may find it better to shampoo once weekly, and then cowashing in between. Often applying the liquid at the end just means your products are less diluted, but if you are trying to raise moisture balance, water comes first.
Here are some of the leave in conditioners I spoke about in the video!

Thank you.

I’m using Paul Mitchell Awapuii spray and grease on my scalp. I seal the shaft before I put it up in my style. Lawd! When he told us the protective styles should protect the 3Ps I heard him.
Thanks so much. I have coily texture so how often should we shampoo our hair?
Great info. I’m always looking for more vids from you. Could you do one on how silicones affect you hair and what products to avoid?
This is so informative! Thank you!

Im on youtube today trying to fix a bad texture softener on my daughter's hair... your videos are so clear, concise and professional!!! Love it!!! Also, which haur cutting sheers do you recommend for cutting the split ends?
Hi Linwood,
I really appreciate the information you shared with us in this video!
Thanks for the information!!
