Hey Glamfam! In this video I am discussing why it is that so many people struggle with what feels like constant dry hair, and how you can fix it, or identify what the issue even is! The number one cause of breakage is dryness, so we want to ensure we are correctly identifying and solving the issue. As always, if you have any questions, let me know in the comments! Until next time y'all, take care, God bless, and stay glam!

    What dries out my hair:
    1. Hard water
    2. Sulfate/clarifying/detoxing/stripping/chelating shampoo every week
    3. styling products daily...yes edge control is drying out your edges and that is why they are breaking off every day. I'm not even going to say anything about those who stick down their wigs daily. Y'all want edges or wigs? 😋
    4. having my hair out; ends flapping in the wind
    5. Not deep conditioning weekly
    6. Not spraying a leave-in mist daily
    7. Forgetting my satin/silk scarf/bonnet while sleeping/napping.
    8. cold air including airconditioning
    9. central heating in the winter
    10. excessive sun on my hair.
    the end. 😅🤣😂

But that's everything 😢... I'm trying to find the answers to my dilemma

    • @keshahunt1476
      @keshahunt1476 Год назад +35

I have hard water but the water filter helped stop me from having dry hair and sometimes unknown rusty pipes can cause dry hair and the filter works for that also, and hydrating hair with rosewater and sealing with castor oil or mangobutter

    •  Год назад +22

@keshahunt1476 The water where I live is so hard that a filter that is supposed to last have a month, only lasts half a month. It's more economical and beneficial for me to use a chelating shampoo. I use As I Am Castor water because my scalp doesn't like raw oils or butter and my hair responds better to daily misting with that and leave in conditioner instead of trying to seal moisture in for several days.

    •  Год назад +24

@jeseka2470 process of elimination. And what Linwood said. Recently my hair felt dry so I went through each issue to see if that was a problem. I recently had a trim. i recently chelated and deep cobditioned. I'm not currently exposed to central heating, sun or air-conditioning. Hair is covered most of the time. No styling products recently used. I just increased applying my leave-in mist conditioner twice daily and wrapping my hair in a hot towel daily and that did the trick. Hair is no longer dry to touch. I used to keep a hair journal once I went natural to see how my hair responded to the seasons, travelling and different products.

    • @diamond4270
      @diamond4270 Год назад +9

@Jeseka right, but that's just what dries out that persons hair, it doesn't mean that it's the same for your hair. Deep conditioning, moisturizing every 3-4 days and protective styling (buns - tuckinf your ends in) is usually what helps most people. Some protein treatments if you don't have protein sensitive hair is also helpful.

My hair started thinning significantly following an extremely stressful time I went through. So, I myself researched the internet and decided to experiment with the litttleextra coocoonion hair oil & a comb made of neem wood. It really really made a difference. At present, my hair is lengthy, dense, dark hair which has reached my waist & trimmed on three occasions since I began using it. Simple and good. Also, just as effective can be rubbing your scalp - it stimulates the growth. You just need to do this once a week. Pretty soon, you'll see new hair starting to grow.

I recently started using a satin pillow case, and that helps. I wet my hair everytime I take a shower, I use leave in conditioner, run my fingers thru it, let it air dry, put my head wrap on, and go about my day I avoid most hair products bc they smell too fruity and loud. You have helped me alot. Thanks so much ❤

The truth, and a trim, shall set you free!!! I found wearing mostly wash n go's last year had my hair extra dry, frizzy and riddled with single strand knots. After a cut, cause there was no saving the ends, my hair is so much more manageable. Exactly as you described - less tangles and frizz, soft and shiny.

Ouidad Curl Quencher line works wonder to moisturize your hair. I also oil my scalp with amlaki oil but the key is to gently massage scalp with it and let it on for only about 2-4 hours. You can then use a non-sulfate clarifying shampoo or a mild apple cider vinegar rinse, and use a deep conditioning mask and/or a leave-in....my hair LOVES leave-in conditioner. I then seal it with aloe vera gel.

It also helps if people understand how their hair acts, is supposed to feel, react to the elements, etc. As opposed to trying to make their hair do what it doesn't normally. Understanding the difference between hydrating and moisturizing the hair. Working with a reputable licensed professional who understands our hair and not the RUclips "stylists".

My curls aren’t bouncy lately. So much frizz. I will use a clarifying shampoo tomorrow followed by a deep conditioning with my heated bonnet. I hope it helps.

Thank you! You have to hydrate the hair before you coat it with oil. This is why I was always confused by the LOC method. When people would tell me that, I’d ask, “You mean the LCO method, right? Or, in wintertime, the LCOB method. They would argue. I would just look at them, and then turn around and take my tailbone length hair with me.

I have low porosity hair and I live in an arrid/very dry climate. I I'm very susceptible two single strand knots any part of my hair shaft not just the ends which can cause a lot of tangles. Hydration has helped me a lot you can contribute to to the softness and pliability of my hair.

I put a heavy leave in container spray with a gulp of grease in my hair everyday. I maybe able to skip one or two days out the week if I have enough moister. It works well for my high porosity hair.

My hair is curly, swirly and wavy (yay me😢)
After a bout of long Covid in 2000 my thick Bratz hair texture changed from perfect 3C to 2B and I struggle with dryness I’ve never had.
I use to cut 5 inches every March & December and it grew back like a weed; now I clip my ends whenever they get tangled (read as always tangled) because I have too much Barbie type hair to fight.
I’m 59 and it feels like team too much trying to learn a new hair texture. Sigh….

My 4C hair was always dry at the end of the day until I started following my conditioner with an ACV rinse. I had even started using premium hydrating products, and while it helped, I didn't notice my hair holding the moisture I was putting into it until I started closing the cuticle after doing my normal wash & condition or DC.

Thank you, so much, Linwood, for this video. For a long time, I thought oils hydrate hair and I thank you for sharing your knowledge as a cosmetologist and taking your time to explain to us what we need to know when it comes to our hair!!

For me Argan oil was the best solution. I kept using olive oil and I noticed that it did not hydrate my hair long enough. But with Argan oil products it made a huge difference. I think we all need to find the right product for us. But moisturizing is key to keep your hair hydrated and healthy looking.

This is great information. I’m locked, but I’m experiencing the same dryness I did as a loose natural. I’m constantly misting my hair and sealing with oils and it doesn’t do much to mitigate the dryness. I’m going to apply this ASAP and I will be subscribing. ❤ your energy
