Aloe Vera is the way to go for All types of hair porosity. I use Aloe vera powder that I put in a mix of rose/nettle hydrolat, and cosgard. Game Changer.
U don't understand how I needed this. Was forced to do a big chop because my hair was soo dry!😢💇♀️. I would moisturize with the loc method but something changed and my hair just wouldn't absorb well anymore. Literally the next day my hair was all dry again and if I tried adding more moisturizers my scalp would be overwhelmed and I had to wash it out
Per a chemist I listened to recently, 'conditioned' and 'moisturized' are synonyms. So your hair is not stiff when it's conditioned, is the same as saying your hair is not stiff when it's moisturized. Conditioners are moisturizers, etc. My favorite way to condition my hair is water and sealing with shea butter. It makes a lovely fluffy twist out as well.
That’s why my high porosity hair is extra dry this winter. I know of the LOC method but stop using butters and oil because it seemed to get dirty faster and felt I needed to wash often. I will do it from now on. Maybe I will use little not a lot. Thank you great video as usual always informative.
I also stopped using oils and butters for the same reason, especially on my scalp. I started using flaxseed gel on top of a leave in instead, and it works fine for me.
I have high porosity hair as well. When I changed from LOC to LCO my hair stated moisturized for a week. And the O I use some times is just regular olive oil.
I have high porosity hair and when I don't use direct water in between wash days my hair is fine. Adding products neat and hair grease has been a game changer for me.
I also don't like putting oils (and definitely not butters) on my scalp. It's always best to let your scalp breathe. You're right about using a little oil. You don't need a lot of oil on your hair for it to retain your moisture. A little goes a long way.
I love that you break down the science of our hair & show us how to utilize methods for our specific hair types on top of that. It's rare to see anyone pull out scientific facts when talking about natural hair & it just doesn't make sense to follow a tutorial when you don't even understand the biology of your own hair. So thank you thank you thank you. More influencers should do research like this before making videos saying what will & won't work.
I can't spray my hair with water then add product on top. It will dry out and break (trust me I've tried LOC/LCO method). If I let my hair dry after washing then add a leave in, gel or hair grease neat on rotation my hair is fine. I've been doing this for approximately 5 months now and my hair is thriving. No more direct water for me until wash day lol.
I put an herb oil mix in a spray bottle with water and fenugreek seeds. I shake the bottle and spray it into my hair daily and I’ve seen lots of growth and that’s really all I do.
Can you make a video about extremely fine hair? I have fine hair but when I rub my cornrows , the finest hairs ever collect on my hand, they’re short and super duper fine, I’d almost say as thin as peach fuzz but still recognizable as hair! Hi and thank you for the video. I always love watching them. For this topic I think most of us are misleading. Comparing sponge could be a good example but hair does not behave like a sponge, does not behave with water the exact same way a sponge does. How long can our hair retain water that has been added manually? Is it even a good thing to try to make our hair retain water... when hair naturally has a minimum-maximum water content in a healty state of (7-15%) depending on the humidity in the air. Many brands or people like to compare moisturizing skin with moisturizing hair when talking or using humectants who have been tested on skin not hair. But again hair and skin do not behave the same. And even if we take that example. How long does our skin stays moisturized? 10/20 hour max? Even if you don't wash your face you feel the need to re-moisturize within 10/15 hours. So unless you moisturize your hair morning and night... Is trying to retain/trap water long term even possible? How long? And is it even so important? I see the positive part of moisturizing/hydrating to help me manipulate, comb, style, re-shape, my afro hair easily and without breakage... In that sense I think water/ hydration/ moisture is important four our afro hair but not to try to trap water long term. But oils, butter and/or conditioning ingredients (btms, behentrimonium chloride, some polyquaternium, some silicones...) that we find in every conditioners/ masks/ moisturizers are what helps me long term to maintain healthy hair less susceptible to breakage by keeping my cuticles flat, lubricated, and in order just like sebum does. We keep saying we need to trap water. But for what purpose? Do we lack water or do we lack sebum? With humectants or not our hair moisture content is really dependant on the humidity content in the air but it does not prevent black women who live in dry area to maintain healthy hair too. To me focusing on moisturising our hair long term/ trying to trap water in our hair long term, trying to chase long term moisture is pointless and time consuming. So I prefer focusing on other areas when it comes to maintaining healthy hair. Moisture !!!! was a goal of mine when I went back natural by following what I saw online. Until my mum asked me why I kepy adding moisture so often.... She made me realize that as a child and a teenager she never did that to my natural hair and it was super healthy and long too. She used moisture just like I use it now which makes my life much more simple with the same result. I do everything on wash day and don't add anything unless I need to re-shape , re-style. Of course I also wash my hair on a regular basis.
@@harleyqueeen Hi I have a very similar simple routine to RUclipsr Tiajonay. Look her up. I also make videos but mainly about beauty/skincare and healthy lifestyle in general. So for my routine; it is wash, deep condition, put my hair in a few braids when it is still wet to stretch it. I always twist the end so it's easy to unravel. When it is slightly damped I undo the braids to apply an oil/butter mix on the strands then redo the braids so they get more stretch andand smoother. The next morning I remove the braid and put my hair in a loose bun usually. I sleep on a silk pillow case but don't do anything special to my hair during the work week usually. I just adjust my loose bun in the morning and add water/oils/butter on the edges as needed. On the weekend I'll just redo the braids on Sunday and unravel them Monday morning to get the hair stretch again for the next week in a bun. Usually I don't need to add more/butter oils or just a little bit when I redo the process. But I add a little bit of aloe juice with a spray bottle to help manipulate my hair and finger detangle at the same time while redoing the braids. So on the next wash day my hair is not that tangle. So I usually have my wash day every 2 weeks. If I am lazy every 3 weeks. Sometimes I might choose to wear my hair out in braid out for a few days. I usually do that close to my wash day. Also sometimes I do mini twists (2/3 weeks) or box braids (4/5weeks) Before styling I use the same technique to stretch my hair so it's easier and faster to part and style hair. Also I only comb/detangle with a wide tooth comb in section on wash day before applying the shampoo under hot running water as it helps the comb glides easily with bigger sections. Seems complicated when I write it down but it's not when you do it I promise. It's just little tips that make the entire process easier. Hope it helps.
Really appreciate these informative videos. I haven’t done much moisture retention since being natural for 3 years now and I feel as though I’m on a growth plateau. But this video has truly inspired me to take moisture retention seriously. Thanks a lot 😊

I just discovered your videos this morning and I can’t count how many I’ve already watched lol. I cut my natural hair around May of last year and my biggest mistake was believing it didn’t require a lot of maintenance. Do the ends of our hair lose more moisture? Just curious. Also, I've noticed that increasing my water intake has helped with any scalp or dryness issues. Lastly, your hair has gotten so long! I have fine, natural hair so i'm wondering if I should get trims more often than the standard because 4 months later, I'm still at the same length after a recent salon visit.
The ends of our hair do lose more moisture. They are the oldest parts of our hair and are generally more porous than the rest of the hair strands. Hydration is both and internal and external process so drinking adequate amounts of water is definitely important. As for trimming your hair, that should totally depend on the state of your ends. If they are healthy and you aren't experiencing excessive breaking, knots or tangles then there's no need to trim more often. Thanks for watching.
You've Done It Again!!! Thank you so much for providing this valuable information! 🙏 This is something that I've been trying to figure out for a long time! There lies the problem of Hair Breakage etc.! 😕 POROSITY, HOW TO APPLY MOISTURE, & SEALING IT IN!!! WOW who knew? I appreciate you!! 💜💙💛💚
I love your content! I have a question. I have high porosity, medium density, fine strands with 3C curls/coils. My hair won't stay moisturized. When I do remoisturize and lock it with oil, my hair feels hard and stiff, makes noise, and if I touch my hair or try to separate my clumps, I get mad frizz... and my hair is too greasy, but HARD). I wash every 4 days. Deep condition weekly with heat. Protein treatments every 4-6 weeks. Am I doing something wrong? I've never taken care of my natural hair before and I'm 62. I'm 15+ years chemical free and stopped using hot combs and flat irons in May 2021. Thank you for this content. I've been a little frustrated because most content I happen upon is usually for type 4, low porosity hair. I've had many challenges following these wrong processes. Is there an easy way for me? THANK YOU!!
Excellent video Can you do a video on why some hair does not like to be air dried? My hair HATES it with a passion. Loves to be blow dried and no flat iron. When I air dry, my hair ends up bone dry regardless of moisture, brittle, breaking, matted etc , very wiry or something too I actually lose hair when I don’t blow dry my hair . I am interested in the science behind this as I always thought absolutely no heat would be best
I will definitely do this and for a sealing oil I will you a light oil and a heavier oil on my ends because the ends of hair have a different texture. I will do this once I grow back my hair I plan on doing the onion juice treatement I miss my natural hair

Thank you so much 💕
So well said. Yes, our focus should be lubrication to reduce friction and wear. Chasing wetness Aka moisture is a frustrating-elusive quest.
Please talk about ur skin Routine too cause ur skin is glowing
You are too the best hair goat on RUclips
Your skin is FLAWLESS!
Your beauty and glow are soooo radiant!❤️ I know you focus on what goes in your body too. I would love a video on the specifics
Also do you create all the animations? They are genius 🙂
Thank you, I try to only talk about stuff I do or have done.
Great example with the sponge!!👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Really appreciate these informative videos. I haven’t done much moisture retention since being natural for 3 years now and I feel as though I’m on a growth plateau. But this video has truly inspired me to take moisture retention seriously. Thanks a lot 😊
Thanks, I’m happy to help. Sometimes all you need is a reminder.
Happy to help. Thanks for watching and good luck with your hair journey. It takes a lot of patience and consistency, but if you listen to your hair and give it what it needs then you'll get there.
Genius ! I’m a visual learner & this is so helpful, thank you !
I love your videos, they are so educational and informative, keep up the great work
Thank you 💚
LOVE the sponge example! 🧽
Your hair is beautiful.
Hello lady, welcome back and how is your little one!? 👶🏾
Awesome way to explain the need for moisture and how to retain!!!
Pls do a series on the popular commonly used oils and their pros & cons if they’re a sealant or not - especially coconut oil! So much conflicting information about coconut oil i.e not for use for protein sensitive people! Oils e.g castor oil, olive oil, avocado oil, almond oil, soya bean oil, grapeseed oil the list goes on. Thank you.
that’s a great idea. I’ll work on it 💚
Thank you Queen for sharing and teaching us how to take care of our hair. You are appreciated. Kiss that beautiful princess and let her know that she is loved, prayed for, and thought of. Her mother is a genius!!! 😀😀👏🏽👏🏽 Also, will you please share some knowledge on the cause & how to care for seborrhea dermatitis on the scalp? Thank you.
I literally have been thinking about this and my good sis posts a good ole science based vid about it. Thank you!!!
I’m so glad I found this channel. I’m going to follow your advice religiously to grow out my hair
Nice. This was a refresher for me.
YES!! Great examples used to describe moisture and moisture retention. Sharing. Thanks.
I just discovered your videos this morning and I can’t count how many I’ve already watched lol. I cut my natural hair around May of last year and my biggest mistake was believing it didn’t require a lot of maintenance. My major question, and what I can’t seem to find an answer on is how often should I moisturize my hair? Even more specifically, how many times weekly?
Thanks for the video my beautiful sister, hope your baby is doing great?
Excellent demonstration with the sponges 👍👍
Oh my, you are so glamorous 🤩.
My hair's moisture be stressing me out sometimes. 😡

The best hair informative video I have ever seen! Thank you and keep them coming! 🥰
GREAT JOB DOLL!!!!!
My hair is just like yours low porosity and everything yoursis just a lil bit longer so i just relate so much
Love your videos. They are so informative and helpful. 🙏❤️
Your videos are phenomenal! OG here😊
I am glad you are doing these series again!
Beyond informative! Thank you
You've Done It Again!!! 💜💙💛💚
Woooooooowwwww! Great teaching method with the sponge. 😲
Thank you and thanks for watching. 😊♥
your videos are always so helpful, thank you for sharing!🤎
Awesome, great example. Thanks as always.
I am always hype when you release a new video
OMG YOU POSTED! And this is the best video for now! Thank you!
THANK YOU!!
your videos are always so helpful
Great analogy!
Thank you so much. God bless you ❤️
Thanks for sharing this 🙌 I really appreciate it
Excellent video
Can you do a video on why some hair does not like to be air dried?
My hair HATES it with a passion. Loves to be blow dried and no flat iron.
When I air dry, my hair ends up bone dry regardless of moisture, brittle, breaking, matted etc , very wiry or something too
I actually lose hair when I don’t blow dry my hair . I am interested in the science behind this as I always thought absolutely no heat would be best
Most current hair doesn't do with air drying it tends to get frizzy don't fret
Love the simplicity of your videos👏🏼
Just love her videos ☺️ so informative
I will definitely do this and for a sealing oil I will you a light oil and a heavier oil on my ends because the ends of hair have a different texture. I will do this once I grow back my hair I plan on doing the onion juice treatement I miss my natural hair
Finally, I have been looking for such helpful info, can't wait to check out your next video, and would you recommend moisturizing hair everyday???
AMAZZZINNNGGG! Great information per usual ! Thank you
