POLL: Do you have a TV in your bedroom?

  • @memrybug

I had a rheumotogist tell me once that it takes a minimum of 7 hours of sleep for your body to recoup from the day of breathing, digesting, just functioning. We used to have a 42" tv in our bedroom. After we hadn't turned it on in about 3 years, we gave it to our daughter and her husband when they got married and were furnishing their apartment. We don't miss it at all. My nighttime routine includes picking out clothing for the next day and looking at my calendar to see what I need to prepare for. I find if I am prepared before I go to bed, I am not rushing around like crazy in the morning even when hitting the snooze button a few times.

We have never had a tv in our bedroom..just don’t believe in it. 7 hours is good for me and I wake up refreshed. You look beautiful here. Keep smiling!

Excellent advice! I am menopausing right now. The "beginning" stages. Sleep deprived! I love Lavender and other essential oils. I make an airfreshener and spray some on my pillow, or I drink chamamile tea. Warm milk seems to do the trick too! Speak of off "balance" hormones! You made my life easier, why? Because that boiling water trick with baking soda for the pots and pans! That's why! I am so happy! I know, you probably think I am weird, but it took only a couple of seconds just to clean these pots and pans! Most of my life I had to scrap the food stuck grim on them! Thank you, Thank you and many more thank yous!

No TV in the bedroom but I watch stuff on my phone. I only watch relaxing or enjoyable things before bed. As for sleep rituals and being well rested, it's not going to happen with kids. You learn to sleep when you can and cope when you can't. You're going to learn about reserves of energy you did not know you had and how to run on empty. Feel good and take good care of yourself. I enjoy your channel!

I have never, and will never, have a TV in the bedroom, that is my sanctuary. I need 9-10 hrs sleep per night, fortunately with no kids, I can do this, and reading is my go to wind down. Whether reading in bed, or the living room, it calms my mind, and eases me down a path of sleep.

I have a TV in my bedroom, partially out of habit and partially because it's more difficult to only have a common TV when living with roommates. Plus, I am an introvert, so when I need to recharge and spend time alone, I sometimes watch TV - but if it's for recharging, it has to be alone. I look forward to having a TV-free bedroom when I live either alone or just with a partner.

Hi Melissa! My bedtime routine consists of putting my phone and ipad away about an hour before bedtime. My rule: no electronics in the bedroom, so no phone, no tv etc. I like to make myself a cup of (night time)tea, put on my little night light (not the big ones) and read for 30-60 minutes. That way I can really calm down and relax before I go to sleep. When I come home late or watch tv ‘till it’s bedtime, I don’t sleep that well.

Love your channel, I learnt a lot from them and apply them to my everyday home cleaning. To answer your question, I need at least 6 1/2 hrs of sleep to function well. My weeknight routine is laying out my clothes for work and gym for the next day including jewelry. This has helped me in the morning since it's one less thing to worry about when i wake the next day. I also tidy up the living room which is where my husband, our dog and I spend the evenings and any other items that need to be put in its place before bed. I will whine down with some tea. And we do not have a TV in our room we have dark curtains which I find helpful to sleep in complete darkness.

I suffer with episodes of major depression where I lose all motivation to do anything, let alone clean. I isolate myself almost completely and am faced with a disaster area when I’m well enough to notice my surroundings. I’m feeling pretty good right now and am searching for easy access resources to help guide me through difficult times. I’m hopeful that the videos on this channel will: inspire me to leave my sofa, better care for my family, better care for myself and to speed up my recovery time. The copay for the intensive therapy I need is $200 per day. I suspect that “Clean My Space” may save me a great deal of money.

I do have a tv in my bedroom but rarely turn it on. I enjoy it being there when I'm under the weather or am having a pajama day. Love listening to Audiobooks when I'm going to sleep. So instead of me reading until I'm tired, someone else is reading to me and I can relax my mind and body. I set a timer so it turns off after x minutes in the very likely case I fall asleep.

Hi Melissa, I need about 7 hrs to sleep to really function well. My night Time routine is I put my twins to bed around 7:30-8pm than I start cleaning the kitchen while my husband unwind and relax after a hard day of work. He goes to bed around 9pm and at that time I finish cleaning the kitchen and turn off the tv and i start unwind by checking my planner or “watching” you tube videos (is more like listen to videos) lol , when I feel I’m getting sleepy I made my twins a bottle and leave them in their cribs , lower their music and just check everything is ok w them. Just knowing that my girls are ok makes me so relax that I know I can fall asleep easier. I sleep on the next room as the mattress on that room makes my back hurt. By the way we don’t watch tv after 9pm n don’t have tv on my room

I have been do the same thing again!,, my only son (9 years old) is asking me, why we only a one television (which is the same screen as a computer desk),,one of my answers is because just one tv, make us feel together, is very important avoid distractions in those days,,

If your nervous about labor, in my experience, the labor and delivery is easy compared to the first 3 months of life with a newborn. It gets TUFF immediately after the baby is born. You think you’re going to rest and sleep immediately after giving birth but- wrong! It your extreme exhaustion, you’re going to have to breastfeed every 2 hrs and nurses keep coming in to give you medicine and check on you and baby. So don’t worry about the labor and delivery because that’s the easy part. Get as much sleep and rest as you can now cuz you can pretty much kiss it goodbye once the baby is here.

Thanks for your great videos. 7 hours is perfect for me now that I’m getting a little older. 56. I used to need more but for some reason, not anymore. It seems true to me about sleep cycles. They say you feel more tired if you wake up when you are in that deeper sleep so you should wake up at the half hour mark. So if you go to bed at 10:00 you are in deep sleep until 11:30. Then from 11:30 until 1:00. Then from 1:00 until 2:30 and so on. So if you want to wake up and not feel tired and get 7 hours sleep going to bed at 10:00, set your alarm for 5:30 not 5:00. Because before that you will be in the deep sleep. I have found it to be true. It has to do with the REM sleep patterns.
I drink Chamomile tea sometimes before bed and I love to read before bed. I’ve been reading before bed since I was a little girl and could only look at the pictures in books. Remember to start reading to your baby right away. Good Luck and Congratulations

My job changed and now I wake up before sunrise. It was really throwing me off, so I invested in one of those Philips sunrise clocks. Best purchase I EVER made. It is also helping me keep my cellphone out of the bedroom now that I don't use it for an alarm. The clock was expensive but the price per day per wake up has been worth it.

I get about 4-5. I defiantly feel I need more. Don’t have my own routine, get my kids ready for bed and do my own homework until I can’t keep my eyes open anymore- then I go to sleep. I have had TV in the bedroom but I don’t have one in mine currently- bad for REM sleep! And I already have a hard time as it is -
Would love to see a video on sleep hygiene and see if I can adopt or try some practices from it !!

I need at least 8 hours of sleep. I usually get about that. My husband and I usually watch a little tv when he gets home from work at night. Then I brush my teeth. Hooefully not too much info, but sex is a great stress reliever before bed. Then we are tired and fall right asleep. Sometimes we go to bed and have a conversation about our day or about a subject of some sort and then go to sleep. Yes we do have a tv in our bedroom. We sometimes are uncomfortable and want to be in our comfy bed and watch a little tv. Or if one of us wants to go to sleep, we can both be in bed and the othee can watch tv.

I love to read passive books before bed. Although I love business (active) books that simulate my brain, they are not good for bedtime! They get my creative juices flowing and then I have a million ideas on my brain when I try to sleep. Rather, picking a light read helps me sleep better and keeps my great ideas for when I have time to act upon them.

I dont have a tv in my room..if i slp with my phone i never get good sleep and get tired eyes and even headache. Eating a couple of hours before bedtime works best for me..that way i am not going to bed full stomach and i am not going to bed hungry or craving for snacks. Also..after getting fresh and going to bed helps..and fav tip is getting relaxed with a mild scented body cream or lotion. It makes me feel so comfortable and gives good vibes..

1- I usually get 7 hours sleep during the week, I have to be up at 6:30am to get my son ready for school, so I go to bed no later than 10:30pm and usually fall asleep around 11-11:30pm. On weekend we sleep in an extra couple of hours 😊
2- I go to bed at 10:30pm, play on my phone for 20-30 minutes, than read for another 15-30 minutes before turning out the light.
3- No tv in the bedroom for 5 years now, but my husband and I both are guilty of being on our phones in the bedroom....but I use the “Nightshift” feature on my iPhone which switches the blue light to a warm light so it doesn’t interfere with my sleep rhythm as much 😉 It actually does work pretty well for me!

I need 7-8 hours of sleep to be “well-functioned” per say. If I get 5-6 hours I can survive, but I’ll be really exhausted by evening.
Before bed, i like to wash any remaining dishes, make a list of what I have to do the next day and what I’ve accomplished today (with a bullet journal). Prepare anything I need to cook for the next day (soak beans, take out homemade frozen food).
Then I shower, brush teeth, stretch for 10 min (on my bed!) Check my alarm, and fall asleep (or lay in bed for hours lol attempting to sleep...!)

2:49 "When people come into relationships they have different attitudes and opinions about money, and an objective person like a financial adviser can really help hone that and give the couple or the family what it really needs. For us, having a budget has really helped us hone our ideas about what we want and manage our money accordingly."
IMO that should be included in almost every book / class / video on finance, and on relationships!

Great Vid. I am pregnant too and can relate to eating mindfully, avoiding stress, creating a peaceful environment and cleaning out your 'friends' who bring negativity to your life. Actually, everyone can benefit from this.
We don't have a TV in our room. It was my idea before we got married not to have it. I hated the TV towards my last single years. Too much noise, un educational and mediocre material. Some pl have it on for no purpose, waste of energy. Thanks God my husband agreed to no TV in room :) We do have a smart TV in the living room for Netflix, youtube and other sites to watch movies. We dont have cable, it is a waste of money and time in my opinion.

We like to have about 8 hours of sleep but probably get about 6-7. We do NOT have a TV in our bedroom because we feel the bedroom is a sanctuary. My husband has a bedtime routine where he puts Serenity Essential Oil and lemon essential oil on his feet to help him fall asleep and STAY asleep. It has been life changing! We also diffuse a mixture of Cedarwood, Cypress, Lavender, Marjoram, & Eucalyptus for breathing support. We also have diffused Breathe and Wild Orange at night! A-Mazing!!!! Highly recommend it. We also take our oils internally for support.

I have to sleep 7 hrs + to feel normal and function. But being pregnant getting up to bathroom frequently and back/ sciatica pain makes it challenging. Lately, I have been waking up at 3 or 4 am and unable to fall back to sleep for a couple of hours. Thankfully, I am able to sleep later in the am. The issue is that when Im schedule to work, I cant do that :/
For night time routine, I go to bed at 9 pm and look at my planner to prioritize the things I need to do the next day and add anything that comes to my mind. The coziness of my room, dimmed lights, memory foam bed which I love, my planner and my maternity pillow and sometimes a little bit of reading help me unwind at the end of my day :)

So I believe that I need a quality 7-8 hours of sleep in order to have a great functional day! However, my bedtime routine has been ruining it! I lay in bed and use that time to check all my social media accounts which can definitely add up to almost an hour! It doesn’t help that my husband works in law enforcement which means that his schedule is changing constantly. Sometimes he gets home late which causes me to want to stay up to see him while other times he works through the night which leaves me having a restless night! So interested in seeing a video around bedtime routines!

Amy Hoang my ex was like that.
I started leaving his dirty clothing, dishes, crap ect on his side of the bed.
      Honest to god.
Did it twice. Then he got the message

I find that expecting men to "help" with the housework is not the best way to put it. If you frame it as "doing his share" it gets the point across much faster. He wouldn't be doing you a favor and "helping" you with the chores unless he did more than half.

Thanks for the awesome video! One of my goals this year is to paint my kitchen and I cannot find a color I love. But I do love the color behind you by the stairs... would you mind sharing the name of it? I'd greatly appreciate it!

Sidra Ayub 1 part hair conditioner, 9 parts water in a spray bottle works great for my thick, curly hair.

I'm a student nurse. So early starts and long days. I can function properly on about 6-7 hours. But on my days off. I do have a proper lie in.
I don't have a tv in my room. My parents weren't strict growing up, but that was one rule. They refused tv in bedrooms. They wanted us to spend time with them if we wanted to watch something. So it's never been something I wanted now as an adult.

We have a tv in the room but it is almost never on at night. In the year and half we have lived together it has been on maybe a handful of times at night. I do have it on while I'm doing laundry or cleaning around the area occasionally though. As far as sleep, I don't seem to get much. My schedule is often up in the air but I get about 6 hours on average. I would truly love about 9 hours honestly though.

I struggle to sleep. I'm handicap and deal with a lot of pain do some nights are better than others. I sleep in the living room which is the only place I can get comfortable. When I sleep well several days in a row, everything seems better, but lately that hasn't happened. My nights and days are mixed up and I'm very miserable most of the time. I do think getting enough sleep is crucial, I just wish I could get back to that.

Generally I like to get 6-8 hours of sleep but since we immigrated to Ireland from South Africa 4 months ago, it's been a bit touch and go. Last night I only managed to fall asleep at 2:30am.... my alarm went off at 5. Needless to say, I have been a miserable grouch all day. In south africa, we had a TV in our room and my theory was that it used to make me sleepy. But I find that if I am not busy enough in the day, then I battle to sleep.

I have a tv in my room but it rarely gets turned on...it is mostly for when we get sick so we can quarantine ourselves and also enjoy some television. It is also great for folding laundry...we fold it on our bed and it occupies our brains while doing a mindless task. Otherwise it pretty much stays off.

Oh One more thing, lately Im all about relaxing. I tell my husband it will be a girl bc I just want to to listen to calm, romantic, classic music. I love rock and fast music for dancing but I dont feel like listening to it now being preg. Im also in to planing and having a productive day, ive always liked it but now Im obsessed with that concept and love stationary. Im hating loud noises around me, drama, fiction or some action movies especially horror ones ugh. My husband is not longer watching his fav zombie series when Im around. I avoid anything that gives me stress or puts me in a uncomfortable position. Im loving hugs and love from my fam and friends and I could hug my dog and my husband at the same time all day long. This is the time for me: Im growing a baby.

6 hours of sleep feel good. My bedtime routine is making sure kitchen is clean and back door lock. No TV in bedroom, I have made my bedroom my sanctuary, and the TV doesn't belong.

We have been married since 1970.We have never had a TV in our bedroom. Also, we' ve never had more than 1 TV....& it's not huge.
We average 6 hrs of sleep in bed...but both of us get quite a bit of sleep in our liv.rm.! lol
I find sublingual or time release melatonin helps....it's funny...I'll fall asleep quickly in a chair, get up, go to bed (which is very comfy) , then lie there awake.
Recently, a friend told me a few drops of frankincense on the bottoms of feet helps insomnia. I've tried it. She's right!

I'm a teacher and I need at least 7/8 hours of sleep each night. Even then I'm usually still so exhausted all the time from work. I also wake up usually 3 or 4 times a night. My husband is the exact opposite!

There's an app I use on my phone at night called twilight and it displays red light instead of blue. I find that helpful when I'm winding down for bed.

I have an almost 2 year old I'm a stay at home mom, so I get very little time to myself each day, and her nap time is when I clean the house, so I'm definitely not relaxing lol. I put her to bed at night, and then my husband is on night duty while I take my nightly shower. That's my time to unwind and take a few minutes for myself, without worrying about anyone else. Then I can wake up clean and ready for the next day. I would highly recommend it to any new mom.
