Same here. I was in my 20s when I found out that most families don’t crisis clean the kitchen by piling all the dirty dishes in the bathtub to soak. So glad there are people like Melissa who get that cleaning is a learned and teachable skill. My parents taught me nothing. Mother was an outgoing person who worked and stayed out a lot and Father was a semi deadbeat. Thank you for being here.
I used to teach my kids how to clean and guess what? People were pissed at me, implying it was child labor and they needed to be free to live their lives. Those kids are management material and hard workers. My oldest *is* a manager at her job and she graduated from university with honors. Last week I thanked my oldest for all her help when she was a kid and she blew up at me. Apparently she thinks I was wrong for being a strict parent and asking for her help. Can't win for losing
@@jaykay3839 You sound like a competent dad. Well the thing Is I had to be my own mother. I watched tv, read books and I know it was my responsibility. I learned from nature and others. At times I think animals like the barn Owls are better parents than most humans.
@@jaykay3839 I also think when it comes to cleaning rooms or do the household kids should be rewarded for the things they do. If they clean then they should get more allowance. It’s not child labour when then get a lot in return.

With your own kids there's always the emotional baggage, primarily being unable as young adults to cheerfully acknowledge the idea that somebody else taught them everything they know. I've seen the better side of 50 a long time ago and was raised by a hoarder, incompetent at housework. Everything practical I've learned was from books. It took a long time - organisation and commitment being the sticking point moreso than the actual work. My kids turned out much better, and given that yours seems to think managing life is a no brainer, you did well.
@@missxmarvel I disagree on that one. Kids need to know and experience the feeling of being a valuable, age appropriate, team player in the home. Everyone including parents work in the home for nothing but the warm fuzzy feeling that they have their lives under control. Armed with that, the monetary rewards come later in life, because, hey presto, they are disciplined, have production standards, and can manage their time well. Pocket money is fine but should never be used as a bribe or a weapon. Kids should get what parents decide is appropriate and that's the end of it,
The first tip was very helpful for me. I have anxiety disorder. Sometimes I will go room to room , when I should be focused on one. Doing things top to bottom left to right, just makes sense. It’s organize and less overwhelming. It helps “declutter” my anxiety and overthinking about a room.
BE a advocate for house cleaners to be proud of their profession . Society wants them to feel they are non skilled and unimportant but house cleaning is just as honorable profession as professional house painter

This is so true. I clean professionally and there's a lot to know to clean safely and hygienically, knowing what the right tools and products are. This channel is a testimonial to that. Not only that but if you clean for commercial establishments you have a big impact on the vibe of the place making employees or customers feel good about being there. I've done lots of different jobs and find cleaning rewarding. It uses both my brain and body to do well.

I'm actually dealing with this with my bf whose mom was a hoarder and he got used to the mess and just gets lazy so it makes it harder with cleaning. Currently having my friend coming this next weekend to help with cleaning and decorating because of work and bf having horrible listening and cleaning habits

So...
1. Top to bottom, left to right approach (shelves, floors, clockwise, anti-clockwise)
2. Have everything with you (all cleaning supplies in a caddy)
3. Dwell time (let product sit/penetrate prior to wiping)
4. Start gentle (use mild product first then harsh product if needed)
5. The eye-level test (crouch down to eye-level with surfaces to detect missed debris/stains)
6. The 'S' pattern (zigzag motion when wiping surfaces)
7. Parallel & perpendicular (pattern for arranging items on surfaces)

she forgot use a FLASHLIGHT when at eye level. this allows you to see even the tiniest crumbs that lighting will not show by default because not every room is bright! use your PHONE LED light to brighten the surface. this is very important!

I own a cleaning company too, 15 years strong, and these tips are spot on. I love educating myself on new things and even though I know all of these, there is something I learn new every year.
I love cleaning, if it's not my home lol.
I have mild ocd, and have been cleaning from a very young age, but not professionally (but maybe I should). Being so particular, I’ve been doing the tips naturally without even thinking that they’re useful. The only difference I’ve made being an adult is getting colour coded cleaning cloths that had specific cleaning purposes, which made my cleaning much more effective.
Top to bottom cleaning and the S pattern, along with enzyme cleaners have seriously changed my life!!!! I have ADHD, which is a challenge to clean enough as it is, but I also have fibromyalgia which causes chronic pain. Your tips have really, really helped in cleaning more in less time (which less of a chance of having a painful flare up!). I hated cleaning for so long because it took too much time. I actually look forward to it now thanks to you!!!!

i have seen girls who are disgustingly dirty and vice versa. gender has nothing to do with it. if you care about personal hygiene, you will also care about living in a clean space.
@Margaret Gust Eh.. I was spoiled all my life but it just depends how you're spoiled. A few different types of it. I have to clean my house 2x a week (and we have a large house) itsa lot of work. My momma sure does have me in my place but will get me what I want.
Hah, I used to clean my project car every 2-3 days. People always commented on how impeccable it was.
Then I started cleaning my room more often and I felt better about myself. I'm not a neat freak, but I was brought up to maintain cleanliness in a house with pets - it's all in upbringing.
I'm a girl, still at school and I have to do chores in 2 houses and do so much more. I get pressured to do so. Sucks to be me. I have siblings that makes my anxiety higher and parents who fight all the time and all night. Mom who gets mad at the tiniest things and Dad, who is a cheater, criminal, and the dumbest sht ever(srsly such a dumbass). Even have my past scars that make me cry all day and night; like how can I take in all this. Boys in my family are the downfall for me: a dumb "breadwinner my ass" dad and a spoiled, messy, annoying, abusive, and violent brat sibling.

My mom taught me the S pattern. It’s kind of obvious that circular motion won’t help unless you’re doing it only to scrub away something. However, you still have to do the S pattern afterwards to make sure you got everything off. I learned about all of these things from my mom. Thanks mom, you’re the best.
Same! My mom taught me that when I was 6 and my job was to clean the table after dinner. I’m 53…this S pattern has been around many years!
I did not know about the S pattern and had an epiphany as soon as she started explaining why circles don’t work! 🤣 It seems so obvious!!! My life is changed 🤣
I have been using the S pattern my whole life . Never gave it a thought. Didn't realize everyone didn't do it that way until I saw my husband clean a counter a different way that left half of the crumbs still on the counter! 😊

I actually didn’t learn anything that I hadn’t already been doing since I was 16, and had my own home. My mother has always been an excellent, if not obsessive housekeeper so I’d learned a lot from her.

Yupp you’re right! After cleaning/working at cleaning company for 2.5 years this is all about right! All cleaning companies that do a great job, apply and implement all these cleaning 🧹 tips. I learned a lot while working at a cleaning company and now many years later, I still do and love using these cleaning methods. My house is always clean and so easy to maintain, while saving time and keeping it beautiful!
I clean my house and my grandparents house to make money since my anxiety disorder prevents me from having an actual job. Your channel has really helped me make cleaning more fun, easier, and more efficient! The 3 min toilet cleaning video really did change the game for me!

I lost my job of 17 yrs( was laid off due to business cutting costs) it was a major blow for me and I started my business as a cleaner in my older years, very hard time to start doing such a hard physical job. So I’ve been searching for cleaning tips and hacks and products to make the cleaning more efficient and with less elbow grease cause I have less to give😂. one of my little tricks is "cleaning in passing". While walking through the kitchen to get the dog bowl up to fill with water, I gather any trash on the counter and toss them. I pick up the bowl and balance it between sinks as I look for more clutter. I can clean up my breakfast mess before the bowel is filled.

My favorite/best thing i learned from you is cleaning with vinegar, dish soap and baking soda! I suffer from anxiety and i started getting really scared about using bought products with chemicals. Id get proper anxiety attacks using some of them. So i simply didn't clean properly! But now i know i can get a lot cleaned with baking soda and vinegar and dish soap, im not worried anymore. And maybe it sounds silly! but it made things so much calmer for me! xx

elines acevedo I agree with you, I generally get annoyed when people use the word "chemicals" instead of "harsh" or "dangerous" chemicals.
And using vinegar with bs is useless, they counter eachother. Separately they are good for CLEANING but not disinfecting.

good for you, i have done that in the past. make sure you use 100% of that income JUST to pay off debt. live within you're means and pay bills, and it sounds like that is what you are doing. good luck!
Why do you need to work for someone else? Run your own adds on Craigs list and leave cards on public bulletin boards. This is one field where if you are a good cleaner you will never lack for business. you will only make half as much working for someone else and have to work twice as long.
If you work for yourself you still need to be insured or risk a problem.
I worked part time for acleaning company while I was in college and afterward to save money for a new grand piano.

Its surprising how many people don't think of the little things like starting at the top and working your way down but its a great tip and does make a big difference to saving time!

I worked for McDonalds nearly 30 years ago (groan!) they know how to clean:, clean as you go, S pattern, stainless steel perfection (all in the kitchens) eye level test and under the customer tables for drips and gum. Empty bin bags in the bin ready, I could go on! You are bringing it all back thanks!!
They're always so reliably clean when I'm traveling. My mom worked in the restaurant industry, and many of them aspire to be as clean as McDonald's.
I worked at a Wendy’s for a while and they made us scrub the floors with a deck brush before we even mopped. Had to pull out all the equipment, etc. I’ve only been to the local Burger King once because their floors behind the counter were disgusting.
I also learned at Mc Donalds that when you wash your hands, you better scrub your underarms too.

Oh my goodness, it's so hard to pick my favorite tip. I hadn't cleaned my house in years due t9 a car accident. We paid p pole and my house band did a lot of the cleaning. By some miracle I lucked onto your channel. I got motivated by you. I started cleaning everything I can reach using your methods and it has rocked my world. My husband caught me scrubbing the baseboards with a toothbrush. He threatened to commit to the local psy hospital. Some days I overdo it and have to rest a day and clean 15 minutes at a time. My overall goal is to have my house totally cleaned by December 2017. Thanks to you, I know I can do it fast, easy and efficiently even if it's not as fast as you. I think I wrote much. So, concerning the "dwell time" when using products, one thing I've done is using that time to clean other things that need cleaning so that way I get the room clean faster. That's helped me a lot.

I cleaned smoke and fire 🔥 jobs and my Mother trained me. We called her Drill Sergeant to give you a clue about how tough she was to clean for but she taught me to start in one corner and we had to start with the ceiling anyway but it really does save a butt load of time. I’m glad I found your channel!
What I noticed is that I did most if not all of those tips when I was cleaning for work. I’m a practical thinker so these tips make sense- take everything you need with you/ bathroom/ bedrooms, cloths, vacuum- I always clean from top to bottom. But I haven’t consciously cleaned from left to right. Probably have done so I’ll be aware to have a system. I like your point about the eye level test 👍🏻I really enjoy your videos and your cleanliness 🙏🏻💗
Clean My Space opened my eyes to the wonder that is microfiber cloth. I was someone who was probably every paper towel company's favorite person with how much I'd spend on paper towels. Now, not so much.

Same here! Recently bought two microfiber cloths and gave them a try. Wow. I wound up using zero paper towels when cleaning -- a real change!
Tip learned years ago: Buy a leather workman's toolbelt. You can hang your bottle on it, put your tools and clothes in it. Put it on when you start your cleaning. You never have to walk back to grab things - they come along with you.

My family always used the S Cycle from my childhood and when using the S cleaning cycle helps a lot and you are so right that cleaning in a circular motion will continue putting the dirt right back on the surface.

These are solid tips. It's amazing how I also developed all of these on my own; OCD is a hell of an affliction.
Minimalism has helped me. Covid has pushed my cleaning concepts to become more efficient and thorough at the same time, and more so, my "maintenance design" concepts about how I keep things separated and clean and dirty not mixing. It would be interesting if you did a video on that particular point--keeping the clean clean by avoiding mixing dirty and clean, i.e. avoiding doing work again.
Omg Yes, i often take so much longer to clean because of the mixing issue you mentioned. Would love tips on this as well.

The best cleaning tip I ever had was given to me by a fellow ED nurse I called Princess. I was in my fifths and house cleaning was the thing I hated most. I am ADHD and organization was always difficult for me. The tip if you pick up something that should be in another room, bring it to the. proper room. This is the.important part. DON'T PUT IT AWAY JUST SET IT DOWN AND RETURN TO THE ROOM YOU ARE CLEANING. This simple trick has made the world of difference in my cleaning, where I would get distracted and put the item away and get further distracted and start cleaning the second room. You can see how with that method I would have pulled apart the whole place but now I had a whole house a mess. The trade with Princess was I was a good cook and she felt she wasn't. I taught her and her 2 kids how to cook, methods and reliable recipies. The boy later became a professional cook. How cool is that. Remember to learn things from your friends it makes for even better bonds.

I am ADHD and I can never finish anything because I can’t think in a straight line. The person who made this comment clearly also has ADHD because I have no idea what they are trying to explain?
Are you saying, put something away immediately in the correct room rather than setting it down and forgetting about it. That way you avoid making a mess?
Or are you saying, leave the item that’s in the wrong room IN the wrong room in order to finish your task and bring it to the correct room once you have finished cleaning the current room you’re in? If so how do you remember not to leave said item in the room once you’re done cleaning?
I clean as well but I make sure all labels are facing front. Including bathroom products. Makes a big difference. Great tips. Always looking for ways to improve. Thank you.

As I watched this, I was amused because I already do ALL OF THIS. I came to learn new tips. Although I didn't learn anything new I am still happy I watched this because we think the same and your energy is great.
I fill my sink with Mrs. Meyers cleaning products and use a microfiber towel to wipe everything. Ive found filling the sink and rinsing the towel in it rather than spraying, it saves so much more time and works so much better for me.
I like you just because you have one wild strand of hair sticking out on the left side of your ponytail. Looking like a real person with real imperfections makes listening to you so comforting. As if it’s a friend talking to me from the video ☺️. Or another mom 🧡

Since this video is a year old, I'm not sure if you are still reading these comments but I have two cleaning tips: 1) We live on a well, have hard water, and porcelain bathroom tub, sink and toilet. No matter what products I used over the years to get the yellow and hard water stains in the bath tub and around the faucet and knobs nothing worked. Recently, I was cleaning the toilet and decided to try the toilet bowl cleaner on the stains. After squirting the cleaner on the stains in a dry bath tub and leaving it sit for a few minutes I was able to easily wipe away all of the stains. I would use rubber gloves and note that if there was hard water marks on the facet or knobs it may remove the hard water stains but may still show marks where the hard water residue sat. 2) Not really a cleaning tip, but a tip to avoid having to clean is to spray plastic food storage containers with non-stick cooking spray before putting in tomato-based or other food items that usually stain plastic and it will help keep the plastic from staining. I can't remember where I found this tip but it really works!
Eye level trick made me laugh. I am a taller human and I always notice the tops of things like fridges and other areas normal humans cant reach. I am extra careful to clean my house down low and under things for all the short people Karma would be throwing my way. hahahah Love your work. Keep it up.

I have so many long stick cleaning gadgets that use and invent to clean. Yes and step stools too!
This video is so helpful. I started to implement the top bottom right left s pattern method snd it has transformed my cleaning and makes things so much quicker and easier and less stressful. Wish I’d watch this 12!months ago before the pandemic started.

Every time I have a guest, I would put a little sugar and cinnamon into a dry frying pan on a low heat....the whole house smells like a pastry shop and the fooled guests keep asking what are you baking? 😁

You are a great teacher, I have been using everything you mentioned just by luck. There is also a space underneath the edge of the countertop that faces you as you clean, like an underneath lip, I run the cloth, sponge etc. under it. Then the tops of window and door frame trim tops.
Been working as a cleaner for about 5 years and most of this is common sense. I also learned from the very first day that you do S and O. Meaning the S you did but also wipe an O from top left and round. That way you got no dust at corners/sides.
Also dont know if you pointed it out but depending on surface and chemicals in your spraybottle, iit can be very very bad to spray directly to some surfaces in kitchen, for example. It can leave spraystains. So be sure to check the proper chem for what surface you need it to.

I love this! Thank you for your tips. Growing up I always watched my mom clean our home and I loved it. Now I’m obsessed with having a clean home but I haven’t officially learned some of these things.
Question?! What do you suggest for cleaning older homes? Surfaces that have older paint and flooring? It’s hard for me to see older crevices that I feel don’t truly get cleaned because their older.
Watched this video for a friend starting her own cleaning business. I Fortunately worked in an industrial kitchen as a chef, the S method, top to bottom, and carrying your tools with you are definitely helpful tips...nothing like taking steel wool to a 1/4 inch of cold grease and scrubbing it down to polish only to put the oven right infront of your work...then cleaning the oven.
My favorite tip from Clean my space is that whenever I don't know the best way to clean something I just have to browse in your video haha but seriously the top to bottom and s pattern are so efficient!

I learned that I'm not the only person who has utilized the S pattern my whole life! I was JUST thinking about that the other day as my son and his husband own a JaniKing franchise. I swear I was debating in my head if that was not the very best way to clean surfaces. You confirmed it! Thanks!!
That "eye level test" is REAL!!! My homeconomics teacher taught us that and would take SERIOUS points off our grade if we didn't bend down, check that counter at eye-level and GET THOSE CRUMBS - THE TINYEST CRUMBS EVER!!! Great cleaning tip!
I was going to say that everything here is really obvious.
Then I read some of the comments and I felt so sad for the people that grew up without mums/dads or in dirty houses.
I have noticed that people who grew up with maids have no idea how to do really simple domestic duties.

It's really rude to 'assume' that if someone does not know these things, they grew up in a 'dirty' house or without parents. How extremely judgemental and mental can people be!! Maybe those people were blessed to have parents who spent time with them and did these chores when they were at school... Or were blessed enough to have maids and can afford help even today. Don't like it, don't see the video... Don't try to downplay it's value for people actually trying to learn from it.

Really good tips that seem like common sense but clearly come from years of experience.
I learned the cleaning from top to bottom and s patter , both of which I don't think I would have figured out on my own.
Good to know that i've actually already "discovered", and had been doing, that 1st, 2nd, 5th and 6th advice all on my own. And it's all because im a lazy ass person who hates cleaning. Lazy and always finding ways to shortcut things that makes the same/favorable results. 🤣 this really validated me. Imma show this to my folks who thinks im half-assing my cleaning duties just because i get some cleaning done fast. The other tips are pretty useful too. 💖
Noo! Not 'lazy"! It just seemed to minds like ours that 'cleaning' was such a tricial thing t concentrate on, when there are such hugthings to think about(let's go with that~). .But ha, I have found Melissa's videos addictive, and love them.

This video reminded me of something I forgot from art class long ago, where the teacher made us do something like the "eye level test" in cleaning whatever was left behind from the last project off the table before we got onto the next -- since stray flecks of pastel, eraser, etc. could make a mess of what we would work on next. How much more important for things like kitchen surfaces where food is prepared! Nicely explained, thanks for the great tips, and keep up the good work!
