  • I finally found the source of the horrific rattle in my 2002 Citroen Berlingo HDi M49. But how do you fix it? Look out for Bella the Berlingo on her way to The Netherlands this week. I'm borrowing a car to visit Japan Classic Sunday in Gemert in The Netherlands, so look forward to seeing you there if you're in the area! Betty and I will then be at Classic Ford Show, Ardingly, Sussex on 10th July.

    A good squidge of PU sealant aka panel bond will sort that bar out - it’s a reinforcement bar, it also stops the panel kettling (HNV)

    The black flaps are for when you slam the boot closed with the widows closed, it allows the created pressure to escape and equalise the cabin space, which is why they are usually closed. (Or any other air pressure related scenarios 😅)

    • @brianlaunchbury4491
      @brianlaunchbury4491 2 года назад +5

      No. They are called body air outlet valves. Their primary purpose is to allow a controlled one-way exit path for HVAC air. They have a secondary function of preventing cabin over pressure when doors and tailgates are closed quickly.

    • @SeasickUpload
      @SeasickUpload 2 года назад +3

      Yes, its a pressure release valve, as suggested 😜

    • @greengrass9572
      @greengrass9572 2 года назад

      Dual purpose? HAVAC? I'd say their primary function is to allow the user to close the boot or you're going nowhere.

    I had a VW T3 Van once and it made the most awful noise above 50 mph. It sounded like a banshee with a toothache.
    I checked the grill, the lights, the underbody, removed the wipers, checked the windscreen, peeked inside the dash, checked the fan and a thousand other things.
    It was only after accidentally leaning against the numberplate that the noise stopped.
    The metal numberplate was vibrating against the metal bumper in the wind.

It was a joy to see their knuckles go white every time I deliberately aimed at a bump in the road. The cause was a perished top damper rubber. Boy that was a satisfying clunk every few seconds.

    Hey, catched up on the videos and wanted to say something (non related to this particular video)
    If you want to intercool this engine, beware it will require custom work to put the intercooler in place and plumb it. Perhaps even modifying the manifold (you need to use a 406 or xantia intercooler and manifold).
    But beyond that, I'd recommend mounting a 110 turbo kit (and redo the control air hose unfortunatly) and intercooler before tuning it.
    You can intercool the 90 but you'll get some turbo lag due to the increased piping. Which you can solve by upping the boost (by doing some trickery with the control air hose) and a tune.

    That strip is or should I say was , the panel strengthening strip. The rear door skin is so thin and so wide that additional metal is put in place to stop the skin from warping and going wavy due to slamming the rear door shut over and over. They are bonded with an automotive epoxy . The actual repair is to use 3M automotive VHB double sided tape to reattach the strip to the skin. It’s a relatively common complaint. Still you seem to have fixed the rattle. Just keep an eye on the door skin for any bending or and waves. 👍

    I would have immediately grabbed the Pop Rivet Gun, drilled and secured it to the inside face. That would have fixed it. Hope it doesn't work loose again, so annoying I can imagine ! Well done anyhow 👍 🏁

    Driving a Volvo 850... i think I've taken the tailgate more often apart than i opened the hood on that thing. Next time it starts rattling I'll just glue it in place ;P

    Hi Ian. I am Dutch, and you should say Haymurt to pronounce the name of the town you are going to correctly.
    Enjoy your time in the Netherlands!
