So who's gonna be on the throne when the king dies? His daughter or son ?
@@mikeevans9334 both and neither :)
We need to take a moment to appreciate the cleanest head slice in all of game of thrones history
He can keep his tongue*
Super clean!
damn you're giving me flashbacks to when Theon tried to behead a guy 🤮🤮🤮
Dat Valyrian Steel tho
@@HawaiiBlueMermaid You can thank Dark Sister for that. The most beautiful looking longsword in the entire show, yep, even GoT's blades don't come close.
Paddy Considine gave such a magnificent performance in this episode that deserves every award. The scene with him making his way to the throne to support his daughters despite being in such agony, and then having daemon help him up was so powerful to watch. I'm glad that the last time he was with his whole family was peaceful ( or as peaceful as they can get) but damn his final moments were heartbreaking.
my thoughts exactly... the pace..the slowness, we had to endure him walking... it was amazing, it made the viewer feel it.
the background music/score for this scene was peak elevation of his genuine integrity in his character...one final royal decree before curtain fall
He did so well with the character and emotionally❤
I had to pop some Aleve after that scene
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Daemon never wanted to take the crown away from his brother, he just wanted to be his heir when the time came. Daemon even told him “why did you not name me hand?” He only wanted to protect his brother not take away his kingdom before his death.
Daemon, man he's an enigma wrapped in a mystery. It's tough to figure out what his goals are, he's clearly upset to see Viserys in such a condition, before you could say he wouldn't give a damn if Viserys died or not.
100% correct but that wouldn't happen because viserys (as well as everyone) knows young Daemond acted on impulse and was rather unstable. Although he would be feared if he was king; war was certainly going to happen (and with a lot of the different factions).
Him ruling with Rhaeneyra now is much better.
@@BirrDetonator1989 Nah, that was never true, he's always loved his brother but he's always just himself, he doesnt hold his tongue or stay in his place, he's an ambitious rogue who wants what he wants, so he always ran afoul of his brother the king who is beholden to duty
I don’t think daemon particularly wanted the positions & responsibility out of ambition, I think he just assumed he’d be his brothers closets advisor cos that’s what daemon would’ve done & he can’t comprehend why Viserys even gives the Hightower’s (for example) Any say at all cos they’re not blood of the dragon , they’re not the power family & Daemon almost finds the rest of them ridiculous & shameless. Daemon actually acts like a Targaryen should lol
I have a new found respect for King Viserys. Imagine feeling pain all over your body and still he muster whatever strength he has left to defend his daughter.
Right? That was surprising to me. Say what you will about him, but he loves his daughter.
It’s a shame cos he has 2 daughters but he seems far less attached to his children by Alicent. But that’s been their relationship that’s spilled over to the children. They seem far more loyal to their mother
@@twdjt6245 that's the thing. He "only" loves his daughter with Aemma (whom he brutally cut open), and named Rhaenyra his heir in guilt. He even called her "his only child" even though he has 3 other legitimate children, and he wasn't just performing his duty getting teen Alicent pregnant, as we saw in episode 4 where he calls her up in middle of night after she was already tired to have s3x when she was so unenthusiastic and laying like a corpse. She also took care of him all these years, but he couldn't move over Aemma due to guilt- thus making his relationship with Alicent even harder for a mistake (crime?) he made years ago with his 1st wife.
This show (or book) is more nuanced than people think, it's easier to paint Alicent as antagonist in this show because they took liberty to somewhat humanize Daemon (who's still a filthy wife murderer), and Paddy's emotional performance, but in the books they are both clearly grey sides. Alicent is dutiful and wants to honor Viserys memory (and also fears realm would not take Rhaenyra as queen and prefer Aegon ((great counsel picking Viserys over Rhaenys)) which would force Rhaenyra to order Alicent's children's death), and Rhaenyra won't give up the throne either to prevent all the bloodshed. She wants it, and won't even give it to her 1st son because it's 'her' birthright. They are no right or wrong side, but I guess the show wants the audience to portray blacks as protagonist and greens as antagonist - which is only thing which bugs me in otherwise this 10/10 show.
Cocaine is a powerful drug brother….
Paddy Considine deserves an Emmy for his great performance as King Viserys!
Him walking to the Throne for his daughter had me choking up.
So true. He really loves Rhaenyra
He was amazing but Better Call Saul clears for the emmy

Watching Viserys hardly walking into the throne room while assisted by Daemon, his petition for maintaining his family together and the last words in his deathbed. All completely perfect performance from Paddy Considine. The king deserves an Emmy Award 🖤🐉🔥👑 A true dragon
the background music/score for this scene was peak elevation of his genuine integrity in his character...one final royal decree before curtain fall and his final plea in the dinner scene for peace and happiness in his family as a brother, husband, father, grandfather was amazing.
Viserys finally stood up while barely being able to stand. Reminds me of my own father before he died. He finally stood up ro protect his children, unfortunately, when he died he left us to the wolves in his family.
Great acting great episode !!!🎉
Viserys looked like an Elden Ring boss walking into the throne room. The somber music, the grand hall, the half mask, the cloak, the cane.
Was waiting for him to say something like “Foolish ambitions.”
I've never been so hyped for a man just walking. He's my King.
Paddy Considine slayed it in this episode. His portrayal of Viserys’ last days was nothing less than majestic and full of dignity. Him entering the throne room and struggling to sit on the throne and Daemon helping him up when his crown fell was heartbreaking. For anyone who has actually been at the deathbed of someone they care about, then those scenes with Rhaenyra and Viserys will really ring true.
My eyes teared up during that scene.
Fuck this is so accurate man.. this is exactly what I felt watching this masterpiece of an episode
Yeah it reminded me of those moments and moments of feeling pain and suffering. It was remarkable that really he's fine and has no ailments (that I know if anyway)
Yeah, Daemon was genuinely upset to see Viserys in that condition.
Paddy Considine deserves awards for that performance, it was so moving and masterful.
I felt so sad when Daemon and Rhaneyra entered his chambers and the model he was building had cobwebs all over it and was unkept 😢 All the other parts were sad as well but that part really got me. He loved building that model.
That was so sad 🥺
Right? That’s what made me have the wavering wonder that perhaps he was being mistreated/neglected. (Which obviously wasn’t the case later on), like damn they could’ve at least kept his figurines maintained/dusted/clean.
@@twdjt6245 i know me too!!! They could've just kept building it and let him watch. It seems like they were just drugging him up so that they could reign without any interference. This is exactly what Daemon was talking about when he called Viserys weak. He knew this would happen. He was so upset with them, understandably so.
This episode was very emotional. The fact that Viserys came to the throne for his daughter to defend her was the moment of clarity for everyone. He loved his daughter. The fact that the greens didn’t help him even though they knew more about him and let him struggle to the chair, shows how much they’re in it for themselves. Bravo to Paddy playing an emotional episode. Fantastic acting. Loved that Daemond helped his brother and when Viserys is helped by him you could tell he was elated to see him even in pain.
Daemon always deeply loves his family,Vyseris is best King Westeros ever had
i believe he did it for the peace of the realm and so he could be remembered as aking who kept the peace, although it's funny that his absolute pursuit is what's going to ignite the war. He has been breeding hatred and resentment by always supporting his daughter and keeping short term peace.
That’s so true. If you read the book Daemon was his first supporter and was willing to go to war for him to become king. That’s why i found it emotional when Daemon helped him to sit and put his crown on his head. In the episode I truly believe that he only seen Rhaenyra as his only child because of his first wife who he loved more than anything. Just unfortunate that it led to war.
@@InfamousB9 Viserys and Baelor the Blessed
If someone is interested, I made a really cool Comic Book like montage on the last episode of House Of The Dragon on my channel. Loud really appreciate the critique and if you like it !
It was a lot of work to '' cartoonize '' it .
This is probably the best episode so far, just for the performances alone. Daemon also showing that he actually does care about his family by his gentle care of Viserys, his care of Rhaenyra and how he will protect her sons. Even when he seems in control of himself, he's one bada$$.
@@scottsterling4713 WTH you talking about?

"This is probably the best episode so far" I feel like I've been saying that for almost all the episodes. To think that the dance hasn't started yet, I already have that gutted feeling about certain moments that I know will happen. Some of the things are going to be so tragic, traumatic and bereaving to watch on screen. I don't get how they've managed to get me so invested in some of these characters when some of them I've only watched for a couple of hours.
He is also still a murderer.
@@scottsterling4713 but hey his nephews aren't angels.
The ending part had me in tears, in his final moments Viserys is grasping the air, as if he sees someone waiting for him at the light, he then shuts his eyes and whispers “my love”, I believe he saw Aemma, his beloved wife in the after life and was finally reunited with her..
Anyone else peep just how happy Baela, Rhaena, Jacaerys, and Lucerys were when it was announced that they were to marry? Every time it was bought up they all smiled. I loved that
They were giddy excited with it!!
Well, all four seem to be raised as decent, honorable young people.
@@Thekellin1 honarable bastards.
Shame at least half of them will probably die.
I feel like Aemond is going to kill them all
Viserys was too pure for a Targaryen. He was a good king, maintained peace in his kingdom but he wasn't a brute. He was a gentle soul who loved his beloved wife even after her death (a decision that probably haunted him till his death). He loved art, history and was a kind person overall
I absolutely loved Paddy's acting and the prosthetics team really did a brilliant job in making him look senile and decayed.
I really love how this show handles the story
When he takes his last breath and reaches saying "my love" 😩 He finally was reunited with the woman he actually loved...
Good man for sure but not a good king
He was not a good king…..
Good man, but terrible king. Ironically the fact he was a good man hampered him as a king.
How is he a good king? I understand if he's trying to be a nice king, but a good king is nothing like Viserys. Every step he took was a mistake from the beginning. He is the main reason why there will be a civil war later on.
Such a powerful episode. Kudos. Paddy definitely deserves a lot of credit here. His walk to the throne. Daemon helping him. It really made me cry. The background score was so positive in that scene. Sort of a good dinner with some peace. What Viserys deserved. Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful
Made you cry? Lol
@@wakeup1783 half the comments say it made them cry.
Why do you have to be a mean ahole? Freedom of speech doesn’t mean freedom to be a dumba## you know?!
I agree it was hard to hold back all the emotions and tears! The scenes were quite beautiful!
Hey! I thought a small detail that is actually quite huge is when Viserys says “my only child” in reference to Rhaenyra. Kinda makes you realize that he never saw Alicent’s kids as his true offspring.
I thought that’s what he said, but I wasn’t sure. Thanks for pointing this out.
I disagree. His character was always a kind man. I don't think he would dismiss his younger children. I think it was just another example of his mind fading.
Good catch. I couldn’t connect what he was meaning in thsg moment. Was too tired.
Noticed that too and I was kind of shocked. I think from all of his children, Rhaenyra is the one he loves the most because it’s the result from his marriage to Aemma, the love of his life. But I don’t think he doesn’t considers Alicent’s kids as his own.
@@brendamzs every parent has a favorite child.
Ewan Mitchell's face at the dinner scene when Daemon confronts him is GOLD. He's initially excited and ready to fight, but that gives way initially to doubt followed by the look that very much speaks, "I need to back off. This dude will KILL me, " as Daemon looks on like "Son, you don't want any part of this..."
I like that lol
I keep replaying that part, GOLD indeed!
Use their characters name mate. They're not all that famous lol who tf is ewan mitchell? I only know ewan mcgregor 😂
The looks between Daemon and Aemond are cool, really setting a showdown between the two. Aemond almost looks like he admires Daemon at times lol.
He's the most like Daemon after all
He does admire him and is learning from him…to bad they bump heads…
looks like Aemond can certainly handle himself.
They’re bitter rivals to the end of Dance of Dragons
@@JohnSmith-bn7bl yea I noticed aemond bested the guy who beat daemon in the first episode tourney so he and Daemon seem to be the alpha dogs. Cany wait for a showdown
When Viserys walked into the throne room to defend Rhaenyra and her kids!! A true father
It broke my heart, he really loved Rheanyra
He defended her and her bastard kids which makes the situation worse. Can’t believe he actually thought everyone would just get along because he said so. The dance is ultimately his fault.
@@aegontargaryenvii1832 he forced her daughter to marry he knew the consequences. Viserys was living in guilt both for his former wife and his daughter.
Everyone knew leanor was gay they still wanted them to marry. This is what you get.
Only reason for dance of the dragons to happen is otto hightower.
@@aegontargaryenvii1832 well technically that’s what’s supposed to happen, once the king says something then it should end there, he didn’t back his statement with enough violence for it to stick in my opinion. Once I stated that as long I’d began killing anyone even rumored to have said it to make everyone fear what would happen if they spoke on it. No one feared the kind and that’s the issue to me
@@emilyclarck5943 Even with violence it would only create fear until the king dies. Once the king is dead his words don’t matter anymore, what matters is who takes the throne
If Rhaenyra has to worry so much about her kids being bastards & affecting her claim, then maybe she shouldn’t have had 3 kids by her guard! That part frustrates me about her. She’s pretty careless and brought some of her drama on herself
Absolutely! What a stupid step, careless and arrogance in my opinion. Then she said she tried with Leanor a couple of times.... she clearly did not understand the consequences, being a woman has disadvantages but she needs to make her duty. Also those boys, not able to stand for themselfs, weak and scared. Why she did not provide them training, they look like commons between royalty and they behave like
1000% agree. 1 I can understand but she needs an heir. Maybe even 2. An heir and a spare. But 3? Come on. Those poor boys
Exactly she should have at least started sleeping with/ having babies with someone who is black or has silver hair
In the books she tried having threesomes with laenor and his boyfriend but she never got pregnant by him
I feel Daemon reached out to help his brother in courtroom, is not because he was worried but out of respect for strength his King showed in limping to Iron Throne. He finally understood Viserys is not as week as he always thought.
The only person Viserys was ever tough with was Daemon, but turns out Daemon had his back and good intentions after all 😭
Thats crazy cause I thought he was gonna be the villain
@@realdavidjones1623 Daemon adores his brother. His problem was never hating Viserys. He just wanted Viserys to stop trying to help him and to stop distrusting him. Now, that said, a lot of that was Daemon's fault.

Let’s not forget he brutally killed his first wife.
Say you want of him as a king, but Viserys who only wanted his family to be together and happy, was a good man. He didn’t deserve to suffer this long AND in his final moments. I hope he finds peace and is with Aemma.

King Visery's walk to the throne + speech on the dinner, when he removes the mask at all... ufff teary eyes. Paddy Considine deserves every award, such a powerful performance.
Rhaenyra is always extending an olive branch to Alicent, yet its usually not heeded with the desired outcome but for a Brief moment in this EP it appears that Alicent was more tolerant of Rhaenyra, however we all know that Otto isn't having none of that...
Also, to me this is the second and sadly last time we see Daemon's true feelings for his brother .. The first time was when he had the meeting with Corlys Velaryon appealing him to fighting with them in the Step Stones that came about after Viserys decline to the marriage of Princess Laena over Alicent and in his feelings ..Despite their issues Daemon made it clear when he told Corlys "I will speak about my brother as I wish but you will not" that attributes to a more caring side towards Viserys defined by their brotherly bond rather than portrayed as an opportunist ...
Paddy Constadine MUST WIN an Emmy solely for this episode!
Amazing performance. Made me cry tbh...
Fully agreed.

the background music/score for this scene was peak elevation of his genuine integrity in his character...one final royal decree before curtain fall
his final plea in the dinner scene for peace and happiness in his family as a brother, husband, father, grandfather was amazing
Agree he will be missed
Viserys takes the throne for first time in years: "She is my heir, her heirs are legit, how is this a debate? Ive never once changed my mind on this and never will."
Alicent on his death bed: "I'ma pretend I didn't see that"
Seeing that scene of Viserys coming into the throne room and walking all the way to the iron throne by himself was so powerful, and a true display of strength. It was also very sad to see the crown fall off his head because it was an obvious display of his reign as King ending soon. However, it was nice to see that of all people it was Daemon who helped him pick it up and he who helped him sit on the iron throne one last time. In the earlier episodes he was seen as a pain in the ass to deal with for Viserys, but this was a nice last scene of Daemon showing respects to his older brother.
I actually felt myself get teary eyed for that old king..he tried to keep his dignity and his head held high..he loved them and tried to show them that family was more important..tougher times were coming..such a Stark way about him..RIP to peace times
Daemon is the ultimate family man and we all love him so much for that
I lowkey teared up when it was revealed that Daemon is the one helping his brother Viserys up

Ultimate family man ?. He cold murdering his first wife, neglect his second wife and watch her burn to ashes because all he wanted to do is to fuck his niece. A true family man indeed.

Valyrian blood...not strong blood lol
Ummmm, he committed adultery on his first wife, and then murdered her, allegedly.. So while liking him, I'm gonna go ahead and disagree with you on that one.
Daemons loyalty to Viserys in the book is palpable
I liked that Alicent was placed on Viserys decaying side. To me that represented the poison that the hightowers seem to be seeping into the red keep
It seems she was genuinely loyal to him despite wanting power for her son.
@@abdul7945 She doesnt want power for he son, Otto wants the power. She was just pissed at Rhaenyra for lying to her so she took her fathers side.

The "you are not my son" line is wild! That is her and Otto's claim to the throne. I am excited for the next episode
Paddy was just amazing as Viserys and deserves all the awards. His performance this episode made me emotional. He mustered the last strength he had to sit on the throne and step up as a true king we wish he was. And the final speech he gave to his family just 👏🏻
Agreed!! Showing how the king slowly deteriorated into a living corpse.
Seeing Viserys just wanting his family to love each other and be happy really really made me sad knowing how things are about to go in the future.
well look at it this way; at least he won't be around to witness how they would disappoint and defy his last wish.
If Rhaenys learns the truth about Laenor, it could be heartbreaking. To know he chose to leave and kept her in the dark about the truth would be difficult. On the other hand, her grief is part of what sold the lie that kept him safe and I'm sure she would prize his life above all else.
Watching Viserys (literally) stand up for Rhaenyra was incredibly moving!
Parents' love for their children never disappoints in these series.
“Parents love for their children”… you forgot that Alicent just told aegon that he’s not her son bc of what he’s been doing lol

I think Viserys definitely saw Aemma as he was dying. It looked like he touched her face, like she was floating above him. It made me cry.
I was wondering about what he was reaching up for! Makes sense he always loved aemma
Awe naw🙈 Viserys had me in tears at the end of that episode. It’s like he saw Aemma when he said “my love” at the very end & alicent heard what she wanted to regarding Aegon & ASOIF.
Aemond looks like daemons love child. They almost have a mutual respect for each other. Daemon was impressed last week with Aemonds whole “lost an eye gained a dragon” & Aemond was in awe of Daemon tonight when he cut off Vaemonds head. Helaena toast was everything
Their names are anagram of each other too! ADEMNO = AEMOND & DAEMON (In fact, all you gotta do is move the "D" from the beginning to the end and vice versa)
@@redmatrix I noticed that before. It’s crazy. AemonD looks like DAemon’s long lost son 😂😂😂
That dinner speech from Viserys 😢 plz nominate this man for every award
Love the musical foreshadowing in this episode. First Daenerys’ theme when Daemon discovers the three dragon eggs. Then when Viserys tells Otto “I will sit the throne” a familiar tune rises to crescendo, the Baratheon theme signaling the beginning of House Targaryen’s decline.
I find it hard to believe that Alicent genuinely thought Viserys was changing his mind about the succession at the last minute after going through allllllll that effort in the throne room to re-affirm Rhaenyra as heir then host a dinner to unite everyone around that fact, where Alicent then toasted her as queen. It could not have been more explicit. With the king hopped up on opium, in agony, and having been visited by his daughter earlier, surely anyone with common sense would put together that he simply didn't realize to whom he was speaking. The final scene looked like Alicent manipulating the facts to fit the narrative she wanted to act on.
I personally think it's just a plot hole. They are making her more dumb than she is suppose to be, just so we can have an excuse for the war to come.
i agree, or at best it was a case of believing what you want to believe.
What I loved the most was Daemon helping Viserys By taking the crown and placing it on viserys Head. True brotherhood

Yes Daemon looked tortured. As far as THIS GOT/HOD relationship I think Daemon doesn't not like to see Visery's disrespected and used. Even though THEY have their issues. Different! I loved Aemond One Eye as Baby Monk on TLK but I'd have to root for Daemon.
The director said the crown fell accidentally, and Matt Smith picked up while they kept filming.
The way Aemond looks at Daemon slicing Vemond's head be like "Finally, a worthy opponent"
I loved the scene where they’re all at the dinner table and Aemond stands up to confront his so called nephews and Daemon ends up standing between him and giving him that look like… “Slow your role son.. just remember there’s someone crazier than you…”

He thought he was talking to Rhaenyra, telling her "it's you" as in, the prince that was promised, as prophesied by Aegon the Conqueror, will come from your bloodline. @@emergencyawesome The whole episode was a work of art🖤
I'm going to miss Viserys. He was a such a good character.
Besides his condition, This was agreat episode and send off to Visery and how much of a great character he was. I really loved how his last actions almost accomplished everything he wished. He got to help his daughter and grandchildren one last time and finally got to see his family getting along before he died. It was really great when he was looking around and seeing his family finally act like how he hoped they would. Plus him ending by saying "my love" gives hope he saw his first wife at the end. Although he couldnt stop the war, it was great to see him end on a high note.
The Daemon versus Aemond scene was great and you can tell Daemon was stepping up to see if Aemond would provoke him instead but Aemond wasnt ready for all that smoke yet lol. His face turned serious and he just walked away as Daemon smiled even wider lol.
😂 exactly
Yes, but Aemond is still a child now. Give him a few more years
The stares between Aemond and Daemon . Two badasses looking at each other smirking and admiring
That was my favorite part of the episode for some reason
Daemon is saying to himself he's going to end that kid life with his own hands for stealing his wife's dragon away from their daughters.
@@ColormeLEOPARD second most fav first is Viserys and Daemon at throne room . I cried alot
Aemond looking at daemon all episodes like he finally saw his hero😂.
The resemblance between them is crazy. They definitely have a kinda mutual respect for each other. Daemon was impressed with Aemonds whole “lost an eye gained a dragon” & Aemond was in awe of Daemon when he sliced vaemond valeryons head clean off
Aemond is gonna killed by Deamond
@@RG-rb6om same they're definitely building up a showdown, and I can't wait for it.
@@lyndsaycrawford Aemond is like a wish version of Daemond, no one is like the rouge prince
@@sms1511 yup daemon is pretty hard to beat but aemond is supposed to bear a striking resemblance to his uncle. I mean even there name is an annogram of one another.
The Throne Room scene was something else. First you have Alicent who looks worried (if about Viserys health or political worry, that would be up for debate). Vaemond and Otto both look not so pleased as there is this unspoken agreement that Vaemond was going to be heir to Driftmark by "the kings Orders" as expressed by Otto, but now that Viserys actually showed up to express his wishes, that is basically thrown out the window.
The clean slice followed by the shot of Daemon saying "he can keep his tongue" was something else. Personally I loved it and does show the lengths that Daemon will go to protect his family.
The casting for Aemon is perfect. Such an intimidating character
I think Daemon had retrieved all three eggs from the clutch. He had a bag over his shoulder that was bigger than would be needed for just a single egg, and he told the dragon keepers to "put them in the warming chamber"... "Them", not "It", so I think he was referring to all three.
Yes he said Syrax hatched 3 eggs and its implied He got all of them for his 3 children with Rae including the babe in her belly
Agree I heard that also that he took all three
That's what I heard, he collected all three eggs,.
So personally I love how Daemon seems so quiet , sympathetic and calm but at the same time ready to fight if need be. Example 1) him walking his brother to the throne I personally didn't take as him "him wanting the throne for himself" I personally took it as one brother helping a sick and dying brother out/mending a broken relationship before the kings death.
Example 2) he defended his wife's as well as his stepsons/nephew's honors by killing the man who called the boys bastards.
Example 3) the way he looks at his dying brother breaks my heart because he knows how much his family's fighting has hurt his brother
And example 4) when he once agains defends his stepsons from his nephew and is like ok they may not be able to take you but I will do if you wanna fight let's fight and that's when his nephew tucks his tail and runs( for now).
Matt smith was truly meant for this role and is a amazing daemon Targaryen can't wait to see his fight with Aemomd
No honour is defended when you shush down the truth.
What I Ioved about Daemon helping the King is he didn't actually help him. The guards wanted to carry him while Daemon knew exactly what to do which was to lend just the littlest of physical support but a whole lot of moral support and brotherly love. He didn't carry him, he literally offered his arm for balance. He didn't want to make his brother look weak. It was such a beautiful moment.
Great casting with Matt Smith thats for sure. To note Daemon Targaryen is George R Martin’s favourite character from his books.
@@finalarbitrator4551 facts
Everybody keeps acting like Vaemond was screaming out rumors. Nah it's the actual truth they all know
@@Captain_Insano_nomercy Also it's weird how they expect him to just watch the ruin of the bloodline of his ancient house. Although he died, he died a much honourable death than those proud Velaryons who keep their mouth closed while their family rots at the hand of Rhaenyra.
the episode was so hard to watch as my father also passed away due to cancer. Seeing Viserys grasping for air in his final hours reminded me of my father's final moment.
Paddy's performance definitely stole the spotlight and I could never imagine anyone else portraying king Viserys.
This episode of House of the Dragon was so good it had me cheering and then crying all in an hour. Daemon is, of course, everyone’s favorite character….and him just slicing Vaemond’s head in half in w/o hesitation is a great example as to why 😎 But I balled like a baby when Viserys smiled at his happy family finally coming together…and then finally ends his suffering 😭😭 talk about an emotional roller coaster
The Throne scene will forever stand the test of time as one of the best TV Show moments of all time.
We all watched a damn near perfect scene where there is almost no dialogue in it at all. Just perfect Acting by King Vaserys
👏👏👏👏Bravo Paddy Considine
I love how Aemond is missing the opposite eye to Viserys, and that they see everything very differently. Viserys only wants peace in his family and Aemond only wants violence between the two sides. They were also sat at opposite ends of the table and everyone else is on a scale between them.
The children won't have regnal names until they become, if they do somehow become the King.
Also, wouldn't someone clean the King's model of Valyria??
Surely Daemon is the person who can give permission for his daughters to marry, not their grandmother.
Actually since Daemon is Rhaenyra’s consort it would be Rhaenyra would actually be making that decision.
@@jjh2456 Ahh, good to know, thanks!
A possible Easter egg was when viserys says his last words “my love.” Maester Aemon said “love is the death of duty.” Vis loved his first wife and Rhaenyra so much- instead of doing his “duty” by making Aegon II heir, he kept Rhaenyra as his heir.
You nailed Daemon's laugh at the funeral, The good side and the bad side from the king's ill face at the diner table and Allisen was confused at first during the death bed convo then realised the King mistook her for Rhanyra as soon as the King mentioned "Aegon I Dreams" but she decided to pick her own Aegon II.. That's why she said "I understand my King.." The Hightower's 1st Blow.
I seriously do not understand why Aemond is the only kid that is a full-blown adult while all the other kids still look young af... even his older brother Aegon.
Riding Vhagar made his balls drop
Because Aegon is like a retarded teenager. It's very clear in the show
The man lost an eye it was time for him to grow up 😂
He is described in books as being imposing / tall. He definitely does look different to the other grandchildren though, maybe it’s so he matches up to Daemon, as they become bitter rivals and each of them a formidable warrior for their faction going forward
@@Megafreakx3 That has nothing to do with Aemond, the guy with one eye.
Love how Aemond is an anagram of Daemon and is so similar to him in his youth,
Yeah, and all you really gotta do is move the "D"
Masterpiece.
Paddy was so powerful portraying Viserys here, he literally carried that episode up until his character's last breath, which was to his beloved first wife.
What absolutely heartwrenching acting.
I am blown away by the care an dedication they've had for this franchise after the last season, they haven't JUST redeemed everyone's faith but also RAISED the BAR, *CERTAIN* other franchises are starting to visibly sweat under the pressure.
And I love it, it's all about the story an immersion.
That's what people love.
I am over the moon I get to experience this level of BITTERSWEET TURMOIL that's become something akin to a guilty pleasure of the soul.
WONDERFUL THEATRE!
BRAVO! ENCORE!
Us viewers are blessed with competent people leading this and I am THRILLED to see where this goes.
Henry Cavill should portray (my personal choice) Ser Duncan the Tall and/or (preferably both with the two different time lines which would create an interesting dynamic into some delicious backstory arcs) Aegon the conqueror!
Honestly with how well the special effects an Henry's ability to act, he could EASILY pass as two different people, by changing tone an appearance/mannerisms etc an it would be a BOON but either way I'd definitely be KEEN.
I am excited.
Alicent’s face of worry was not because Viserys was in pain. It was because she knew he would take Rhaenyra’s side and their plan to keep him asleep while putting all their plans in place failed
I love the way when Aemond tries to do the stare down on Daemon and some how with hardly moving a muscle he goes from trying to intimidate him to feeling fear
Paddy Considine and Matt Smith's performance in this series so far cannot be overstated.
Absolutely right they’ve been magnificent above even the others who have all been great
Aemond looking at Daemon throughout the episode like he finally saw his hero🤣🤣
😆😆
2nd uncle crush^^ Daemon is so popular XDDDD
Did anyone else catch the subtle way they had Viserys lean on the right side instead of the left when he made it to the iron throne? I cried. His most powerful moment in total service of his family. He finally learned to sit on it correctly and this performance was incredible. Paddy has been the highlight for me and deserves alllll the awards
Wow never knew there was a way to sit on it correctly. Can you explain that a little.
I’m also keen to hear, I hadn’t noted that in the audiobook, but maybe I missed it!
It was a big theme that the throne cuts those who sit on it and that they had to sit on it right to avoid being cut. Daemon in episode one leaned to his right when he sat on the throne and avoided cuts as well as looked authoritative. When viserys strengthened his resolve during that last throne scene, he leaned to his right and forward, commanding authority and drawing a hard line ❤️ I cried
"Now THAT is a name for a king" such a wholesome moment 😭
daenerys brother would be happy
God damn gotta feel for viserys man, I’ve never cried more than once and everytime he came on I couldn’t help it, he was a good man but a better father, he only wanted to unite the kingdom and help his house. RIP KING🙏🏼
He made a decision that was crucial for his family out of spite… whilst his Grand father before him had showed him how it’s done , THAT’S HOW HE BECAME KING…
Anyone who doesn’t realize he created this mess is not paying attention, he condemned House Targaryen and the Realm… in the end Daemon’s children end up on the throne .
The smart move to secure his legacy after his first wife had died without giving him a male heir was to find a way to end a marriage his brother didn’t want and marry him to his daughter ).
If he would have just stuck with Targaryen tradition of shit or get off the pot as long as it is direct family …
They would have ruled for much much longer .
How can you be the king who destroys everything and you come directly after the King who saved everything for your family … Just do what he did if you are confronted with the same problem …
But he didn’t , it is what ended up happening anyway but they lost everything because he didn’t like the fact that I’m his own eyes his brother was the better man (according to the standards of their time)
He wasn't a good man; he was lukewarm. He supported the death of Vaemond for speaking the truth.
@@grichkatayou7558 please don't let the truth get into the way of a good story.
Charlie, here lies Viserys, the first of his name, lord of six kingdoms, king of westeros...a good human and a decent family man!! The background music/score for the scene where he walks toward and sits on the iron throne was peak elevation of his genuine integrity in his character...one final royal decree before curtain fall and his final plea in the dinner scene for peace and happiness in his family as a brother, husband, father, grandfather was amazing.
He
Alicent was NOT warried about Viserys's pain at all, it was about their plan falling apart. Also, yes he needed milk of the poppy, but they were using it to keep him high, and out of it, it was a power play. I think Charlie is team green lol. Also, that boy is still mad over a pig joke, and he has the biggest dragon in the realm, he's definitely gone mad
What is the pig joke? I was lost when he was mad about the pig
He lost an eye he might be still pissed about that
I'm puzzled as to why he's still getting upset over a little bit of bullying. It was a pig with wings joke and he's upset
This was a great breakdown. Far better than all the others out there. It seems like the other reviewers are more about their personal egos -- as if they really like to hear themselves speak. Rather than a review all you get is their theories trying to prove how smart they are or their bragging about all their knowledge from having read the books … trying to prove the same thing. So it refreshing watching explanations that actually look deep and catch things that we may have missed. My hat’s off to you. Thanks!
I dunno, Aemond's initial reaction looked a bit fearful when Daemon removed the top half of Vaemond's head. I think he is looking at Daemon and recognizing game. Daemon is probably the only guy that makes him sweat atm.
True because Jace and Luc are not so strong as Aemond with Aegon ok. But Daemon being stern and Aemond's uncle he should

Thanks Charlie. Another amazing episode which rested on the shoulders of Paddy who gave an award caliber performance. His brother Daemon helping him walk up to the throne was so touching and the King trying to pull his family together at the dinner was a great dramatic send off. I must hoping he would name who he wanted to succeed him, but that would be too simple lol
I can't tell you how much I look forward to your Monday breakdowns of these episodes. You clarify scenes that sometimes go over my head! These reviews save me at times! LOL! Thanks so much for these!!

I'm officially obsessed with this series after last nights episode. I was a bit critical in the first few episodes but as it goes on I have fallen in love with the way they portray the story and the characters. The performances are outstanding, the casting is so well done, the costumes are absolutely beautiful. The tension in the last couple episodes was sooo thick. I felt so many emotions.. Anxious when they arrived in King's Landing, during the petition for Driftmark, during the dinner.. So much sadness seeing Viserys suffering and just wishing for his family to settle their differences. So proud of Daemon helping his brother up to the throne and standing up for his wife Rhaenyra and her kids. And so much more.. I couldn't help but smile, nearly teary eyed when Daemon picked up the crown and helped his brother 🥺🥺 The bad ass scene with Vaemon right after, as well as the look he gave Aemond after his “strong” comments. My God, I have been a HUGE ASoIaF fan for decades but I cannot get enough of this show and it kills me to have to wait a whole week for more.
The face down between Aemond and Daemon was great. Aemond must admire Daemon, and certainly they see a rival in each other.
He looked pretty scared when daemon beheaded the sea snakes brother and then impressed
Aemond is literally the young version of Daemon.. he is just not visiting brothels as a young Daemon would, he only loves the violence part of Daemon
yeahh thts because Daemon got the D. and Aeomond doesn´t :D
Viserys is so kind!! The way he came through for his daughter had me tearing 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Masterclass of an episode. I liked it even more than last week. My fave moments were Rhaenyra begging her dad to help and support her sons claims, and Daemon helping viserys walk up the steps. Daemon may be a lot of things but he really does love and care for his brother. That was a pure look on his face we haven’t seen much.
And of course viserys dragging his nearly dead self to the throne to support his baby girl. That’s real love. Looking back on everything from the first few episodes is quite funny, he really did love his daughter more than anything.
Then chopping vaemond head in TWO lmao the SFX were insane for that.
I wanted Alicent to get bitch slapped so much this episode, she’s such a cheeky little mf. Of course we finally reach a little bit of peace in the family only for viserys to leave Alicent with those instructions and set off the civil war.
Viserys surviving this long was really such a massive shock, dudes been a zombie for years now
Paddy Considine deserves all the praise in the world for his performance as Viserys. He better win an Emmy for this. Unbelievable job.
The actor playing Aemon is going to be a future star. That shot of him @16:13... Dude has a natural villainous "look" for Hollywood
He was the baby Monk in The Last Kingdom. Absolute opposite of thus character. He has done a great job embodying Aemond.
Loved this episode. Paddy's performamce was excellent, so was Matt's. The best part was Viserys walking towards his throne and his brother Daemon helping him and placing the crown on his head. That was a return of the king moment.
I'll admit I had my doubts about this show. The time jumps, the recasts, the pacing etc. But this one episode was a masterpiece in execution. Was literally on the edge of my seat the whole time. Paddy Considine deserves an Emmy for his performance. Aemond is my new favorite character. Whoever wrote & directed this deserves a raise and to be put in charge for season 2. This was epic and totally worthy of GoTs finest moments. 💯% on board this now.
Yeah it’s a wild ride and the fun hasn’t even kicked off yet 😂🎉🎉
I feel like if a time comes when Rhaenyra needs/ wants more dragon riders, Laenor will hear and will return. At that point, Rhaenys will know the truth and will be even more committed to Daemon and Rhaenyra.
An interesting take, I think it’s going to be much more complex… first, even if glad to know her son actually lives, I think she’ll be utterly pissed to know she was led to believe for so long that he was murdered in her own house. It adds a further wrinkle because the whole question of who inherits Driftmark is now thrown even further into question, especially considering both Corlys’ wish for it to be the name Velaryon, as well hers for it to be true Velaryon blood. AND especially because it finally adds a huge shitstorm to Rhaenyra’s and Daemon’s marriage, as well as the betrothal of her granddaughters to those ‘strong’ boys of Rhaneyra’s.
What would that make of Rhaenyra's marriage to Daemon?
Adam velaryon
@@etheledwin6231 Aegon had two wives. Rhaenyra said so herself last episode. She referenced Aegon having two wives and then told him to husband her so she technically has 2 husbands since I doubt they annulled the marraige since they didn't meet before his "death".

I was so proud of Viserys and his valiant effort to bring peace within the family. And so sad when he confused Alicent for Rhaenyra in the end, and unwittingly leading her to decide to challenge Rhaenyra. But, I guess that’s the storyline the books are compelling.
Great episode with a great performance by Paddy Considine. When he walked into the throne room he had me cheering! One of the strongest scenes in both shows.
I honestly thought alicent was going to kill Dyanna or at Least yell at her I'm so glad they did the opposite.
She may have
I was kinda scared too for Dyanna
Yeah esp when she was fully on her knees and muttering, I thought alicent had become some murderer that covers up her sons transgressions by killing the servant girls he sleeps with...but all she did was give her the moon tea...maybe it was poisoned?idk
God I hated that scene😂 her crying was so annoying, I was like “please shut up for one second”

I loved this episode. Had so much of everything. The emotions,Suspense and that head slice was perfect. I didn't expect daemon to do that. Def my fav episode
Aemond… loved every scene with him what an overwhelming presence he has. That stare between him and Daemon was amazing
Yuck. Hes a psychopath.
When I saw Viserys walk into that throne room I got legit goosebumps. Dude deserved so much better. Man really loved his family and wanted everyone to get along. Oh well lol
Early in the season, Viserys describes a dream he had (I forget the exact description) but in my opinion he was vaguely describing his dream of the white walkers and the sound of their weapons singing when it meets Valyrian steel - he KNEW the white walkers were real because he saw them in his dreams. That's why he was so adamant about having a boy and willing to sacrifice the queen - and also why in the final scene of this episode, he was 100% certain that it was real and that Rhaenyra was the prince who was promised
Am i the only one who noticed when Viserys called rhaenyra "my only child" he considers alicent's kids bastards that was so funny and ironic
