Why not put it up against the new A.I Smoke if it's rumored to be made by Callaway?
Just a suggestion for a video idea, why not compare this driver to an older driver you can buy for £190 on GolfBidder?
Please compare this to the Callaway Optiforce Driver as they look so similar
Mizuno shafts fit Costco.
@HITGolfReviews from what i have seen, you can use a mizuno adapter and swap the shaft in the kirkland driver
I went to Costco to just buy this driver, but it was ridiculously expensive when you include the garden shed, barbecue, and 2 kayaks I left with.
Don't forget the 15 packs of water and bog paper!
😂😂😂
Did u break the budget wtih a buck fifty hot dog and soda?
🤣🤣🤣
At least you spent less than a fiver for lunch and fed the whole family!
You should do a break 75 with all Kirkland clubs.
👀
@@RickShielsPGA come on and break it with your fitted set first 😉
Brilliant idea , hopefully Rick will do it in the near future
Someone didn’t watch till the end of the video lol, literally says he will.
With kirkland balls!
A break 75 episode with 100 percent Costco , clothes, food, drinks, clubs, balls and bag would be epic ❤
Costco Dad Challenge
I'm in this camp as well, but I don't know if his clothing/hat/shoe sponsors will let him. I do think that he will be able to use the bags sold by costco as well as the Kirkland golf glove and balls.
Smash a few Costco hotdogs too at halfway… right up Ricks street 🌝
I bet he'd break 75 with all of that! DO IT, RICK!
Plus a hot dog on top!
As a new golfer, I'm a massive fan of affordable golf products and love seeing Kirkland rock the boat amongst the big names. Good to see them producing across the whole range of equipment.
the other companies could follow suit, but I'm not sure they'd be able to endorse Pros .
If you haven't tried the golf gloves from Costco, you're missing out. In my area about $22.99 for 4-pack and they are the best glove I've ever owned. I don't use any other anymore.
Can you remove the Kirkland logo?
Just bought the 4 pack of gloves. Can't wait to try them out.
@@bjchid1 🙄 I will never cease to be amazed by how much marketing can brainwash people into thinking that certain brand names carry some kind of value. Who cares what it says on the glove? Honestly. Grow up.
@surindersingh724 I do. I wouldn't be caught dead wearing something that said Cosco or Walmart or any other kind of budget brand. You do what you want with your $ and I'll do what I want with mine👍 I have plenty of it, so I don't care.
@@bjchid1 Absolute sheep. But at least you know it so fair enough.
I’m willing to bet there are two main areas that make this so much lower in price. 1 is Costco’s insane infrastructure. They’re able to mass produce and ship clubs far more efficiently than anyone else. They don’t need a huge profit margin on golf clubs. Number 2 is Kirkland/Costco isn’t paying out insane sponsorship money/marketing. When you’re buying a big name brand, I wouldn’t be surprised if at least 30% of the club cost is tied to marketing and player sponsorships.
all valid points and it shows you graphically just where your money goes on the monster brands.
I've heard that the adapter is a Titleist adapter but I don't know as a fact.
Great observations!!
@@aimeagle Its a Mizuno one.
@@DanB- nice! I have a LA golf shaft with a Mizuno adapter.
You can always use an extra stiff Mizuno shaft. It fits the Kirkland signature driver.
Something I am learning the more I golf. Golf is very challenging, but it's 90% the person and 10% the equipment. 🤘😎
Yup- it’s the Indian, not the arrow…..
Why 90/10? Why not 95/5 or 99/1? At the end of the day, as long as you have a golf club in your hands, it's the person. End of. No amount of technology is going to help if you can't swing and hit the ball properly.
There is no substitute for having a fitted set.
Period.
Good equipment definitely makes a difference. Take a triple diamond callaway, with a proper shaft against a walmart special. 2 different games
Good you figured that out early, tons of players will upgrade their gear and never work on short game
Does this just mean that the top manufacturers are having our pants down with their ridiculous prices?
Yep
Yes
Don’t buy new. There’s no reason. Fit for your specs and buy used
That's the case for every hobby/sport with high end equipment. Those $8000 bikes from trek, specialized, etc... have a margin of 50%+. Same with kayaks, tennis rackets, outdoor clothing, etc...
Always have
The PXG 0211 Driver is also $200. You should do a head to head with it. That driver is an absolute beast at that price point.
Love mine, have the 2021 when they still had adjustable weight slot.
100% agree - the 0211 is plenty long and by far the most forgiving driver I own. The other 3 are collecting dust.
It’s not the Kirkland that is cheap, it’s the others who are ridiculously expensive, ripping people off, and playing on their vanity.
Yeah, but with the big names you are paying for all the sponsorships to the big name players.
IMO you shouldn't compare it to the latest model drivers, because it is so much cheaper it should be compared to similarly priced used drivers. Go to Golf Bidder again and find something around $200, maybe a Titleist TSI 1 or 2, or a Ping G425. The benefit of the used is you can get a shaft that might fit you better, but its older tech so it's a tradeoff.
Hit a ping g10 325 yards yesterday on top tracer, 15 year old tech still pretty good
Ping g425 is not old tech it’s pretty new
Exactly this 💯 There's no way I'd pay $200 for a Kirkland when I can get loads of like new, 2nd hand big name drivers like Ping, Titleist etc. for the same price.
@bjchid1 do you honestly think Costco has a manufacturing facility to make their equipment. They source it from another company like ping or callaway. It's just a rebranded club
@@bjchid1to each their own. If you need a name brand to make you feel you play better go for it.
It uses a Mizuno tip. If you get your favorite shaft tipped in a Mizuno shaft you will probably get better results as well. It is a solid overall club, especially for the price.
It's not the exact tip, but it fits for some reason, by a millimeter or whatever.
What you mean by tip?
@@J_B17the adapter for the shaft
I legit saw someone with Kirkland Signature everything in their bag - (Driver, Irons, Wedges, Putter, Balls).
Dude swears by them.
Nice video Rick 👍
How’d they play though?
I use the wedges and the balls. I love them, best clubs in my bag and the balls are so good for their price. I would switch everything to kirkland myself if it wasnt always sold out.
Taylormade are currently suing the design company Kirkland uses because they are basically identical to their irons. No joke.
It's interesting what people go with when they choose to not worry about brand snobbery. I have the wedges myself and they are good. Gloves I swear by. Balls I don't use anymore, but performance/value can't be beat.
@@lazerflavor doesn’t really matter too much seeing how he could be a 20+ handicap or a scratch golfer. The 20+ is still gonna suck and shoot in the 100s while the scratch golfer is still gonna be able to shoot around even par. What matters is how they perform and from all the reviews I’ve seen, they perform very well.
We'll know he's taking break 75 seriously when he rocks up with a Kirkland driver and Wilson Staff CB irons.
I've just 'upgraded' to a set of PING P425 irons from some WS C300's. And honestly as a 15 handicapper there isnt much difference in them other than the more fashionable name.
Can you break 75?
This is like the perfect driver for beginners. Sub 200 bucks and until you get super consistent with the ball striking, it will give you all the performance you NEED to learn how to hit fairway finders and most amateurs can't carry the ball 280 yds anyway. I know my 2018 Callaway Rogue (not the ST) I get about 240 carry 265-270 total distance. I probably would be just fine using this driver instead... CostCo is NOT screwing around with this golf equipment. REALLY GLAD they're building a CostCo near me because as soon as the irons are available again (TaylorMade just sued them btw, that's why no one can find them right now) I'm sticking those in my bag to replace my 2017 M2's...
Except it was noticeably terrible on off centre hits, so how is it good for beginners? Or anyone?
Considering most people buying this club are looking for something in the 200-300 usd range, you should also compare it to some older drivers like the sim 2 or the cobra king which you can buy used in that price range. This would probably help a lot of new golfers decide if a new Kirkland is worth more than a used big brand driver.
A certain other tuber named James has tested and even reshafted that driver with great success. Good video, and those clubs seem to be just as good as anything at a budget. Thanks for the vids, hope to see you and Guy battling it out again soon.
I play the Kirkland Signature balls, gloves and wedges. They ALL perform beautifully for an average golfer and the value is incredible. I even caught the wedges on sale for $120 for the set of 3. To my eye they look just like Vokey's and the combination of those wedges and balls give me more spin than I've ever had coming into greens. I've actually spun a few wedges off the green which was previously unheard of in my golf game.
I have stopped making clubs but for decades, I was building clubs and fitting people, repairing clubs, replacing shafts, grips even re-grooving irons. I do think the profit margin on clubs are out of sight these days. If you can find something reasonable in price, works well, you like it, by all means, use it. Most people make two big mistakes with clubs: 1) wrong flex and, 2) wrong iron design. Many folks use shafts that are too stiff. Imagine if your swing speed was complimented with a shaft to match! You will hit the ball farther. Next is iron designs. The pro golfers can handle blades. For that matter, they could hit just about anything. Non-pro golfers? Not so much. Game improvement irons for average duffers? It will help you be consistent and maximize distance. I see a lot of upsides in this driver from Kirkland.
@@ddeboy002 That is a good news story! Thanks.
It’s amazing how the clubs flex. So do hockey sticks. That flex is super important. I just watched an old tiger clip of him smashing a ball just shy of a green like 320. Probably his hardest swing ever. If you watch that shaft flex it’s shocking it didn’t snap in half.
@@MaynardOwns Tiger definitely got deep into maximizing his equipment. Most pros do. He spent all sorts of time with his sponsored club makers dialing everything in. Equipment can be controlled. We as humans make swing mistakes. Take the equipment out as a variable, all is easier.
There was so many rumours with Callaway making their clubs. There are a lot of similarities visually with the clubs. Callaway also used to use the Evenflow Riptide in the Mavrik driver… great review Rick and great product for people buying clubs on a budget 👍🏻
There's a lot of talk about the Kirkland Signature range but a head to head against the Inesis 900 (Decathlon) range would be fantastic. They have driver, irons, wedges, putter and balls. Maybe even a video on the best Direct to Consumer clubs?
I’m all over this. Has to be the best pound for pound golf club sets out there and would be great to see how they perform.
Great review Rick, the psychological impact of out driving a fellow golfer with a driver of 1/2 the price of their driver can’t be underestimated!
have worked for costco for 16 years, I refuse to use any kirkland products for golf, as I golf to forget about work lol. but I think it's cool they have stepped into the golf market
Awesome, really want to see the Kirkland break 75. I've also really wanted to see a Hickory break 75 for years! Maybe round a shorter track!
Kirkland sponsoring a tour player, coming soon !
Not if they want to keep the price at $200!
Me
I think part of the reason that other manufacturers don’t sell a driver in this price range is because they’re giving all the equipment away and sponsorships to PGA Tour pros, and everyone else in the world that they see fit to donate the equipment to and support. Costco is not doing that. We’re paying for all those freebies that these people get across the world even the RUclips golfers that have a sponsorship somebody has to pay for all that stuff that gets given out so they figure if the average Joe wants to play PGA quality equipment the same as the pros that’s where we get hit. As for the driver, it is awesome, some testers have put different shafts in it and seen even better results with an upgrade. But there’s certainly nothing wrong with that driver when you pay it right and you get 308 yards! Keep the reviews coming
Is the the stiff or regular shaft?
back at it with the fixed audio
I played my second round of golf last week, I’m terrible at it but I love it. Just going out with the boys and having a blast. It feels good to hit a ball and have it go where you want it.
This reminds me that I need to play golf again soon, not played since Saturday!
"You CANNOT make an underperforming driver"
Cobra: *sips tea nervously*
It's because Titleist owns Cobra and they never want to make a driver that will outperform their driver they want you to step up pay the extra money and buy the Titleist
@jimmiematho8082 not sure where you got that idea. Cobra is owned by Puma; Titleist is owned by Acushnet. They've never even come close to owning one another
Cobra has been the leading driver and wood making since the f9 what are you talking about
@@mikethewhizz5085 I used to work in the Pro Shop as a golf pro.
Same Rep sold both companies🤷♂️
"The company was acquired in 1996 by American Brands. (later known as Fortune Brands) and was grouped together under the Acushnet company umbrella"
I just pulled that off Wikipedia quickly to show you you can go to their Wikipedia page to read it and see the link that I had to remove
@@nate3972 leading how? They've seemed pretty rubbish after the Speedzone tbh
Personally have the wedges in the bag, absolutely love them, so good to see that quality clubs can be made and sold at a reasonable price.
Why did you shut it off the first time I was watching it? RUDE!!!!
Same! Super rude!
Nice review Rick. The driver looks premium and well functioning. I may get one for a back up or travel. Btw 90% of golf cloths are costco name brands like Pebble Beach or Oakley and 100% cost gloves -
As well as testing vs Qi10 can you test vs a second hand driver at the same price?
Agreed, I’d love to see you do a break 75 episode with all Kirkland clubs and Balls.
Love Costco. Use the club for a month or two and if you don`t like it take it back!! No questions asked. Can`t do that at any golf shop!
Seriously?
Mizuno tip to change shafts, don't know if anyone has said that yet but you can change the shafts with a Mizuno.
For a side video you should put a super high end shaft or the one you play in that driver head
Rick’s little chuckle after those first few shots says it all.
8:00 to 8:04 somebody please clip this and put it to good use.
I'm in the market for a driver, been using a 15+ year old Tour Edge for 5 years but I'm not looking to break the bank, this driver is super solid. Appreciate the review
Go to Calloway used clubs .. I just bought a srixon zx5 mk2 that was labeled “good “ for 180 bucks .. it came it and is perfect!! I have bought 4 “good condition “ clubs and they are all great condition
You are so right, agree 💯%. Of course it comes with a wrench. Costco is a good store in the Chicagoland area in the US. They sell proper products. I am also surprised with how good their golf equipment is!🤙🏽
can't wait for Costco to expand from Chicago - sounds like the secret's out now!!!
I got the Costcobra for Xmas and absolutely love it. Easily carrying 275+ yds with it.
I played my entire D1 career at UMN with Wilson Staff forged irons. These “secondary” brands always have hidden gems. I’m in the market for a new big stick, and this looks super appealing.
I honestly love playing the Kirkland Signature golf balls. Has the same feel as a new pack of Pro V1s to me. 100% will bite the bullet and rock the costco brand on the course for golf balls!
Hey Rick just to note if you don’t like the shaft you can fit a Mizuno shaft from their drivers into it! Tip from James Robbinson’s reviews! Maybe worth a go to see the difference 🤷♂️👍 keep up the good work buddy
I got a cherry Taylormade M1 -- practically mint -- online for like $150 about 2 years ago and it's served me well ever since. You absolutely do NOT need to spend $400 for a driver.
Find a good swing first, those are free.
Someone does though otherwise you wouldn't pick the bargains up 🤦♂️
You say ‘why don’t all make a driver for this price?’. I think they can but they get away with premium prices as long as we keep buying them 😊
I have the Costco driver and irons. I love them! I feel like they are very forgiving and the irons go the distance.
I've tried them all, i keep going back to my Callaway Diablo. For me, it's hands down the best.
It seems at the moment Rick that you are well behind the pack with your reviews as the world and his wife have done these reviews!!!!!
Taylormade Burner, Kirkland driver and a few of the others.
Please keep up Rick.👍
Hi Rick, what about try and make test some low cost but hyped golf brand's irons - Takomo, Caley, Haywood, Sub 70, Ram and for example make a compare between them? ☺️
These look sweet. Looking forward to seeing you play with a full set of Kirkland
The reason we pay so much for new golf clubs... raw materiials, R&D, manufacturing etc. Add to this the labour prices, marketing, staff, buisness locations (rent or mortgages). Plus the company has to make a profit.
Got a feeling this driver is maybe a few years old tech so the prices are going to be much lower. Good on them tough for making pennies on the pound and providing cheap gear to get people playing.
They can charge that price easily and still make a profit Rick, it's just the other companies are ripping the consumer off with overpriced equipment
This is a great honest review, just remarkable how they can do this the big manufacturers could prices there’s the same as they are mass produced but just profiteering because of name is my view
Compare it to Tour Edge Exotics E723, and the Wilson Dynapower. Two value friendly drivers!
Great review, would be awesome to see an ALL Kirkland break 75. Balls too!
Kirkland balls are the most inconsistent ball I've ever played. They didn't test well with MyGolfSpy either
Loved that sound. The driver manufactures are trying to dampen the sound. Loved that crisp metal sound
I can’t wait for the HIT channel comparison video!! Those clubs sold out FAST in the US.. I was waiting for it to come back in stock.. I think it will be a LONG while!! Too bad they were only available online.
You can however use a mizuno adapter to fit in the club head so you can get any shaft you want as long as you have that mizuno adapter
Can you do a review of the new updated version of the Kirkland wedges?
major brand drivers are £500+ because they have big named tour stars on their books paying them huge sums that's why they have to rinse their customers( us normal golfers) to get back the money they have invested. kirkland don't have this issue so can charge £190 and still make a good profit , its the tour stars fault for demanding so much money for using say a taylormade or a callaway product
Have to factor in R&D too when Kirkland probably just picked out of a category and put their name on it.
Would LOVE a Break 75 with Kirkland! You are swinging great these days, Rick!
For anyone wondering, who isn’t aware of how Costco operates, this is a 100% raw review. Costco doesn’t pay for advertising. They operate by word of mouth. They don’t even have an advertising department. They also only mark their items up by about 5-7%. That’s why they can sell it so cheap. This driver and their clubs could change the way mainstream manufacturers sell clubs and the prices of them.
Thanks for the review, Rick. You could have borrowed it from James Robinson Golf; he's only done about 20 videos on Kirkland.
“Why can’t all manufacturers make a driver at this price?”
They can, they just have unfathomable markups.
The TaylorMade mini driver out performed it and you can hit the Mini driver off the deck. Yes cost is more. But it has more forgiveness and more versatility. Thanks for this test Rick. Keep up the great work and Cheers.
Costco, thank you for the driver. Please release a mini-driver next!!!
I use to work at and game Costco clubs but now I have GoodGood clubs. Love the way their shafts feel in my hands😊
Big brands are ripping off us golfers - it’s about time consumers started moving away from them
Apparently you can fit a mizuno shaft straight into the Kirkland driver. Interesting to see you try it with a couple of different shafts.
The best and most honest golf channel... Just watched you vs the golf life legends ... are you going to challange jimmy bullard this year?
One interesting point is that with a stiff shaft there were no snap hooks. Maybe change the shaft in your normal driver as the x stiff might be the cause of the lefts
Haven’t had a sniff of this in Canada ?…..all I’ve heard about the irons is the lawsuit !
Can't wait to check out the additional review on the HIT channel
i got one and found it quite forgiving, but not as long as my stealth 2. maybe a better shaft would help
I am looking forward to reviewing this club, shows that clubs can be made a sensible prices
When you do a head-to-head between this and premium drivers, would love to see you hit some shots with the Kirkland driver with an x-stiff shaft that you know you like! Would be awesome to see what that does to the performance and to see how the driver heads themselves perform when using the same shaft
Test it against the PGX 0211... similar price point but the PXG is customizable.
you would hit your drives a bit further if you flattened off your left wrist in your back swing, it's slightly cupped not flat like Rory or Tiger and not negative like Dustin Johnson's .
You should do a comparison between the callaway edge set (that includes a driver) that you can get from costco vs this kirkland driver
End of last year I managed to get a PXG gen 5 driver, fully fitted at their fitting centre for £199.
They even upgraded the grip for free.
I would just wait for pxg sales instead of getting the Kirkland driver.
All big manufacturers can make a driver at this price, but the Willingness To Pay (WTP) price by consumers is over $500 now. So there’s no incentive for them to price it lower.
Also. You can if you want, change the shaft. Just need to take the adapter off and put it on whatever shaft you want.
You mentioned the rumor that Callaway makes their stuff for them. I can't confirm or deny, but for what its worth my local store also sells a full set of Callaway clubs.
It's incredible that Costco can bring out something that performs like this. I've seen rich dudes play xxio drivers, super expensive, and hit them like crap. Costco, bringing out a product for beginners, amateurs, or someone like me who can't afford much, for the performance it offers, is astounding. When you get a hold of and review the irons, I'd love to see a full Kirkland bag break 75, driver to balls.
Any chance a review on the vessel bags? Would love to see your thoughts, thinking of buying one myself 🤙
Need a Gen 2 Kirkland Wedge review from you. Wonder how you compare them to the previous version?
At your level, the gear doesn't matter much. You'll be able to hit any quality driver well. I just saw Bryson shoot par over 6 holes with a Walmart Junior set.
what a great product if you have to work to a budget. Products like this really help to grow the game 👍
Hi Rick, thanks for this review and its format. Will be interresting to compare this driver with the Inesis 500 from Decathlon which is even cheaper (169.99£).
if callaway do manufacture this driver perhaps premium shafts used in callaway drivers may fit and then you may get your x stiff shaft to try
Would love to see the Kirkland Driver against the sim 2 max since they seem to be in the same price range about 220 quid where im from, since it did so well against the qi10!
Rick. Give it a try with a Mizuno adapter and an X-Stiff shaft. I understand that it will fit the Kirkland. 👍
I wish I could buy that headcover! The driver has been out of stock for ages, I ended up getting a $100 Epic Max off of eBay that’s in fairly good shape. Head over was slightly tattered.
Great review as always Rick, however I’d love to see a more realistic test. You’re obviously a very good golfer, and I’d argue this is aimed at mid-high handicappers. It would be great to see you bring in a mid-high handicap player (like me) and test this alongside something like the QI10 MAX or PING G430 MAX, maybe also alongside the Callaway Edge from Costco
From what I know about Kirkland, they probably use a similar manufacturer as a top brand with good quality. Basically you're getting a discount on a non-brand name with equal performance.
