When Aegon is begging Aemond to let him go it's not both of them together, it's just Aegon. He says if he is let go now, no one will hear from him again implying Aemond will we free to take the throne. That's why there's a moment where Aemond seems to consider it, since he wants the crown so bad.

I felt like the staredown Rhaenys gave them at the end of the episode was very powerful. It said "I could kill you just as I could've killed Viserys and taken the throne anytime I wanted..." but she has more honour than that. Viserys won the votes of the Great Council fair and square so she honoured it, even though she disagreed... but what Alicent and Otto were doing was high treason, regardless of what they THOUGHT Viserys wanted. I always liked Rhaenys' character on the show but now she's my absolute favourite!! That was a very powerful statement she made.
I agree. It's like she was saying without words that "This is the type of Queen I would have been." It was an act of mercy, but also a warning.

The parallel between Viserys & Daemon and Aegon & Aemond with the elder not wanting the crown but gets it anyway, and the second son coveting it. The writing is just exceptional
Daemon just wanted Viserys to acknowledge him. Aemond has only contempt for Aegon. Not the same.

The brothers were not trying to make Aegon dissapear or help him escape. They were following the Hand orders, to bring him to the Hand. Cole was following Alicent orders (to bring Aegon to her first, not to the Hand). It´s a power play between Alicent and his father. Whoever finds first Aegon wins the first round, that´s all.

In the beginning of the episode, I thought the somber scene of the empty throne room was a beautiful nod of respect to Viserys. Not unlike the painful loss of a loved one and the feeling of emptiness in your own home.

I think another great thing we saw in this episode is..how Aegon transformed from not wanting to be king, then seeing everyone bow to him, and that did it for him..almost like he felt some power over all the people who pushed him around.
Also when the twin brothers pulled Aegon from under the candles, it almost felt like they pulled him from a womb. He is reborn as a king.
Aegon's plea was definitely that he would leave so that Aemond could be king. He knows his brother wants the crown, and would be better at it.
And now he's finally seeing himself appreciated, so he wants it. He's fooling himself, of course, the people would've clapped for anyone in his place, but he is so deprived of appreciation that he will let himself get blinded by it.
That’s what I also took from it. That he would leave never to be found and aemond would be next in line and more fit to be king .

I don’t think the twins were planning on taking him away somewhere, they were just following orders from Otto to bring Aegon to him, but one of the twins was definitely not on board with Aegon becoming king, hence his leaving to free Rhaenys.

This is what I was thinking as I watched. The commentary in this youtube video is a tad off I feel.
I believe she's talking about what's to happen to her and her kids later. "The beast" does come thru the boards. She also seems scared when she says it the 2nd time, it felt as if she was warning her mother that something bad is going to happen.
I think perhaps it had a double meaning or misinterpretation, because she seemed really angry with her mom (who had her get married to Aegon). I think she's talking about Aegon, who's quite an evil guy to her, being dragged out from the underbelly of fleabottom.
I love that all of Otto’s lies throughout this season about what the future would hold were exposed.
He said folks would never accept Raenyra, meanwhile the kings landing folk didn’t even know what an Aegon was. They didn’t care who was on the throne. Raenyra would’ve been accepted by those people contrary to what he said.
He also said that Raenyra would kill her siblings if she took the throne, meanwhile he already had a plan to kill her.
He also said that a war would break out if Raenyra took the throne, meanwhile he’s the one creating the war. He knew his grandson didn’t want the throne and wouldn’t have stood in her way/been no threat to her.
Otto is the beast beneath the boards. This is his war. Also, Aegon was Joffrey’s idol if you watched Game of thrones, so I think it’s safe to say he’ll be far worse than Joffrey ever was especially since he’s fighting his own blood.
These past two episodes really did a great job with making me feel some semblance of compassion for Alicent. I love how we are getting these twists from the source material, showing how skewed the histories are against Rhaenyra. I'm so excited about the direction of this series, despite know the broad strokes. So, so good.

Rhaenys was a big surprise at the end, I didn't expect her to show up at the pit with the dragon, that was a big show of force. and mercy too, from her. Wow what an great and surprising ending to a great episode. I wonder what will happen with the brothers, I mean Aemon is clearly not happy when his brother Aegon the second wears the throne, it's like he might kill him at one point.

It really broke my heart when Aegon asked his mom if she even loved him.
And then when Princess Rhaenys came up on the dragon, Alicent threw herself in front of Aegon to protect him with her own body.
They just really got me in the feels
Alicent's love for her idiot son is evident throughout the entire series. Everything she's done is for the benefit of him. He's a drunk who leverages servants, yet her mother does her best to handle those things so Aegon isn't saddled by them.
Sometimes women love through nagging. When she jumped in front of her son to take the expected fire blast, it was obviously clear she loved him. Aegon ii is just a drunk idiot.

Awesome recap as usual! One thing I noticed was that Otto Hightower seemed surprised that Mysaria knew the King was dead. Then I remembered Talia lighting the window candelabra when the news gets around, assuming a message to the White Worm. They show the candle again when Larys and Alicent are having their foot fetish party.
Rhaenys was such a badass in this episode. Not just the dragon scene but every other scene that she was in. Totally stole the episode for me. She could've ended the dance right then and there if she wanted to. She did scared the hell out of them though🔥🔥
And killed dozens of innocent people to boot! Wow so brave

Is a reference to someone spying on them. Notice when Alicent was about to tell her about the kings death, she said it (beware the beasts) and swiped her away as if to stop her. Just my observation, super excited for the season finale!

Actually, Helaena pushed Alicent off bc she was angry for misunderstanding what Viserys said on his deathbed. And that all of this was her fault for causing the civil war, and that the beast was a symbol for retribution from the blacks, awakening the wrath of House Targaryen.

The tension buildup during the last couple minutes while aegon was crowned was intense. You could feel that something spectacular is about to happen. Great job by the producers.

This episode gave me major GOT season 6, episode 10 vibes. The music at the beginning and the ominous tones, with the servant boy bringing the news to the kitchens vs. the little birds in GOT setting wildfire in the tunnels. Then the end... at the coronation, it just felt a lot like the scene from The Sept of Baelor. SUCH a good episode, and Rhaenys and Meleys were totally bad ass. It felt like the first really chilling and epic dragon scene. Meleys is beautiful, too. So excited for the finale!
Don’t compare this great show with that shitty season 6 the only good thing about Winds of Winter is the score

You can tell Aegon didn't want the crown he even mentioned Viserys had so many chances to name him king but he didn't. But the moment he turned around and saw all those people after him getting crowned. The moment all of those people started cheering he starts to embrace what power feels like. I think he will make irrational decisions that will have dire consequences just like Joffrey. He will probably be influenced by Alicent and Otto a lot but i don't think he would be AS cruel as Joffrey. Joffrey was a next level psychopath lol. But he will go a tad bit crazy on power and indulgence especially with the servent girls and drinking since i mean he is the king now. lol.
EDIT** My opinion on the clip of Aemond being Crowned. FYI I have not read the books this is just my assumption on what he would be like in the coming episodes/seasons.

It’s because he’s never had anyone truly love him. His mom and dad didn’t care for him. His mother actually openly destains him. His wife is his sister and he doesn’t love her. He’s drunk on the feeling of love even if it’s from the common folk.
in the book he initially refuses and even supports his sister's claim but Alicent says Rheanyra will simply have his side of the family killed for being a threat. This prompts him to claim the throne himself.

1. Aegon hiding and being dragged out of his hiding spot by the 2 brothers
2. Ser Criston's hypocritical caracter (he speaks of virtue and all that crap but goes haywire and kills innocent people left and right)
3. Aegon "I don't want it!" at first but "Hell yeah, gimme all of that power" the second he gets the crown
4. Rhaenys ascending with Meleys from below the sept like the boss she is!🤩🤩😍😍😍

Allicent loves him ,the little smile she did in the end ,gave it away, she's a mother ,she know he is a monster, but she still loves him, and wish him to be a good king, even if she knows it's impossible.
She loves him but she never says it. Even growing up she would beat his ass, scold him and humiliate him with good reason though. But even when he asks her directly she only responds as "you imbecile." All he wants his her validation.

The twins weren’t trying to take Aegon to a place where he wouldn’t be king. They were just trying to take him to Otto first so he could convince Aegon to kill Rhaeneys. Cole and Aemond were trying to get him to Alicent first so she could tell him not to.
Rhaenys may have messed up by not torching the Greens when she could but she is still hands down one of my favorite characters in Westeros and is my 3rd favorite on this show - only behind Daemon and Aemond!

The opening shot of the throne room and many other places in the castle looking dimly lit with green hues is foreboding of the Greens first triumph installing Aegon II as king before Rhaenyra. Such marvelous attention to small details man, I love this show very much.

The music of team green is amazing and impactful. So dramatic. Aegon walking to the dias to be crowned and you here the same music as when Alicent walked to the king during the wedding in her green dress. God the music makes the scene so much more meaningful.

This is the 2nd time we've seen Halaena have an aversion to specifically Alicent's touch.
I also think Larys has mastered warging in a way we've yet to see book Bran accomplish, and also without rolling his eyes back.

The Queen who never was could've ended the dance of dragons right then and there, which was such a badass scene btw, I love that in that moment she saw a mother just protecting her children, and decided not to Dracarys everybody, but I can almost guarantee she'll surely regret her decision down the road..... I'm really loving the show so far tho....

I was thinking the whole time that Aegon' was going to kill himself before they made him king. I now think that power of being king is going to go to his head. The dragon coming thru the floor was great. The CG on the dragon's on the show are just amazing. Can not wait for the last episode.
Hi Charlie, nice video as always. I'd recommend that you perhaps take a little more time making the video each week, mate. Just so you can deliver as you always have, there's no rush on releasing the video, we will watch it and enjoy it.
1) You said that the twins were helping Aegon escape... and also Aemond (¿?), which they weren't because they were sent by Otto to take Aegon back to him, since it was sort of a race between Otto and Alicent to get control over Aegon and keep the status quo on their favour.
2) Also you forgot to mention about Healena's third prophecy/Dragon dream, again ignored by her family: "There's a beast beneath the bloodfloors", which of course refers to Rhaenys coming out of the Dragon pit with Meleys during Aegon's coronation at the end. I don't think she showed mercy because she doesn't want to become a psychopath, but because she saw Alicent willing to protect her child (even from fire) and she respects that since she couldn't do the same for her children (as Laena died by fire and she thinks Laenor also died by fire).
3) Reference to Littlefinger's "knowledge is power" vs Cercei's "power is power": White worm's "bargain" with Otto Hightower about him "remembering who put Aegon in the throne" implying that her knowledge is power. Otto never had the intention of remembering, so to speak, at least not in the way she expected since he sent someone to burn her place afterwards to show his upper hand. You forgot to mention about that.

The search for Aegon is a parallel to the convo that Ned and Renoy had when It was suggested that whoever has Joffrey has control. Rhaenys’ refusal to burn them also lines right up with Ned’s refusal to kidnap the king and dooms her to die by the hand of the very person she refused to wrong.
I think “beast beneath the boards” also foreshadowed the Red Queen bursting out from the ground after Aegon II’s coronation.

Pretty much knowing how this episode was gonna go by many podcasts already. But still shocked by Rhaenys dragon breaks out the dragonpit, just a cool scene to show peer force and mercy. Yah, she coulda end this series.
But the biggest shocker is Lary is a foot fetish... Oh damn, that scene is so creepy but I really have to give credit to the production team for making it also artistic. I knew he probably has a thing for Alicent but he is truly even more wtf than we thought. 😂

This episode was masterful! Oh my, how they captured the intensity of this dire and fragile situation. So powerful. The cinematography, score, the atmosphere…! Just wow on all levels.
That ending did not sit right with me. If you are going to kill thousands of people with your dragon end the damn war right there. In the GOT verse, a woman blew up kings landing. A woman burned kings landing to the ground and now a woman has killed thousands of innocent people. I don't think there should be anymore talk of men doing evil things when women are just as bad.
the cinematography? the cgi was bad except for the dragon at tha last few minutes. The whole thing looked bleak, they should really consider using more colors and light we barely can see shit

Pretty sure the beast beneath the boards was a reference to Meleys. You could argue that Rhaenys was also a beast in that scene (in the best possible way because she stole the show Imo) but it’s likely the writers meant Meleys because
Meleys literally shot out from under the floor so it’s pretty much an on the nose payoff for Helaena’s dragon dream prophecy.
And I may be wrong but I’m pretty sure Aegon wanted to get on a ship on his own, and he was offering that to Aemond as a deal…you help me escape and then you rule instead. Maybe he meant for the two of them to go off together, but as long as he’s alive he would still be the heir above Aemond…not to mention if one or both of them sailed off into the sunset., then their dragons Sunfyre and Vhagar would follow them and reveal who they are. Pretty hard to go incognito with a dragon like Vhagar 😂 However until we know what happened to Seasmoke then I guess the writers can decide whether or not a dragon will always follow their rider. They kind of play fast and loose with the dragon canon in this show

She could sneak down and get her dragon. Also to confirm this, how would the dragon get under the sept. It was the dragon pit floors she burst through.
@@riversongxoxo9010 yeah I’m pretty certain it was the dragon pit. It’s large enough to fit all those people and they didn’t have all of the Targaryen and faith of the seven symbols around like the throne room has.
Ohh boy what a season, going from strength to strength each episode, o e by one. The elements I love, the OG political drama. If last episode wasn't great this follows in its footsteps perfectly.
We have that acting, emotions, expressions, subtlety in everything conveying huge messages to be foreseen.
Otto's plans, Alicent and Otto's disagreement, the two ways to give the throne to argon, aemond's temptation to gain the throne, Ser Criston's thing for Alicent, Larry's and Alicent scene, Rhaenys, coming of age types arc for Aegon in the end. Aegon and Halena's children, Aemond's liking to Halena all conveyed superbly via impressive writing and acting. The background score was top notch and effective.

I thought 'the beast beneath the boards' was a reference to the dragon at the end of the episode. I think perhaps in the previous episode, Helaena joked about this, because she was annoyed with her husband. However, earlier in this episode, she realised that the prophecy will come to pass and this scares her. (not all dragon dreams come to pass as the future is not always set in stone)
Also, I know it's confusing, but in the show and the book, the coronation is in the dragon pit - not the sept. A Great Sept will later be built by Baelor the Blessed to actually house large numbers, but the current sept is too small for this scale of event. This is why the dragon comes up from below, rather than from above as Rhaenys didn't leave the building to find her dragon.

The score “the light of the seven” was being played but in a different key during the episode when they were scheming eluding to what was to come of a sept being destroyed similar to that of in GoT S6

@@avonbarksdale2506 There were absolutely themes from light of the seven within that introductory piece. Djawadi does that frequently in his soundtracks where he'll take a theme from one and blend it into another. It's all over the Westworld and original GoT soundtracks.
