Christon Cole is a full-on trash bag, he didn't deny her request, he had to be stopped by Daemon. Christon, Larys, and Otto are the top trash bags in the show. Christon is a petty vengeful douche and completely horrible human being. Larys is like Little Finger if you removed any likability or even sympathy, and Otto is just a dirtbag obsessed with having his bloodline on the Iron Throne.

In the final moments of the episode I just knew Rahneyra would never hurt Laenor, she genuinely loved him despite their platonic relationship. I felt so validated by the final shot! Loved this episode!

In the book I think leanor actually dies but then again in the books we dont know truly if daemon did it and we also dont know if rhaenyra was in on it if daemon did do it.
I’m still confused. Did rhaenyra and daemon actually want laenor killed, or did they just plant the seeds for laenor and Qarl to plan their escape? Like did Qarl tell laenor what happened, and they planned their escape together, or was this everyone’s idea? I just don’t know if we’re meant to think laenor feels betrayed or he actually wanted it? I’d feel betrayed if he found out rhaenyra wanted him dead. Or maybe he knew this is what rhaenyra wanted.
I was so happy he wasn’t dead, like poor guy he’s so nice.
I have noticed from episode 6 and 7 the differences in mothering styles with Rhaenrya and Alicent and the emotional intelligence differences between the children. Rhaenrya genuinely comes off like she loves her children and is generally gentler with them in how she speaks and handles them. And in turn they seem more sensitive with Jace speaking about Harwin and his pain as well as going over to Laena's daughters to comfort them. Luc also says he doesn't want Driftmark because it means all these ppl he loves are dead. Both boys also defend the twins. Alicent on the other hand is toxic and narcissistic which is reflected in her children's behaviours. Aegon......well so much can be said about him but even Aemon who was sad and still seemed sensitive quickly loses that persona once he bonds with Vhagar. It was like he flipped a switch once he attained power. The contrast with him attaining Vhagar and the conversation Luc had with Corlys shows what power means to them at a young age.

I wish we will see more of their children in the future. Alicent's seem more standoffish, while Rhae's seem so introverted and 'small'. I wonder if they're like that because they don't want to attract more attention to themselves, probably something they learned from their mother.
Alicent is downright abusive to her kids. Learned that trait from Otto as you see how he treats his grandson.

Aemond was my man of the episode. First he showed great courage to claim the dragon Vhagar and second his statement " it was a fair trade, I lost an eye but I gained a dragon". He acted more like Daemon than Viserys.
Also happy that Laenor didn't truly die.

That's probably a timeline thing with the way the episodes are pushing through plot quickly. They probably took longer to do that in reality.
Yeah it was messed up but Laenor obviously wanted out :) So Rhaenyra set him free so to speak, so she could be with her Uncle.
What if they know? It's weird that Rhaenys would take the side of the blacks if she thinks her son is dead. Why would she bother with the war or take sides if she has no stakes in this game? You'd also think Corlys would be done with all this after he lost both his children. They are well aware their son is gay and feels trapped by his position. Maybe they know about his escape. But this is all my speculation. This show has surprised me many times even though I read the books🤷♀️

Let’s not overlook the fact that Veamond’s eulogy was also a direct insult to Rhaenyra and her children.

The children’s brutal exchange really highlights the coming conflict. Aemond losing an eye and gaining a dragon as Alicent tries to harm one of Rhaenerya’s children in return.
The only silver lining is that Laenor escaped so he won’t be involved with this conflict. Hopefully.
I was so happy they didn't kill Laenor. I wonder how he will come back. Will he be gone for a full season? Or is he just gone? Regardless, I think he will be the breaking point when they find him.

@@bcoates87 gets claimed by a Velaryon bastard, who they say is Laenor's bastard but in the books it's more likely Corlys bastard. However that never sat right with me since Velaryon's are not dragon lords. How would Corlys bastard claim a dragon without Targaryen blood? Maybe Laenor comes back with this new bastard identity with Sea Smoke. I don't think a Velaryon could just claim a dragon if they have never claimed dragons ever in their history unless they have some Targaryen blood.

Aemond claiming Vhagar is best HOTD scene so far no matter who you are rooting for, the actor and dragon played it so well.

@@jasonleetaiwan which is what makes the scene that much more amazing and him. He clearly was untrained, unsure, but CONQUERED all of that and fought his ass off to gain control of a precarious situation. Which makes a badass scene.
I love that the writers gave Daemon an episode to be more vulnerable. As vulnerable as Daemon can be anyways. We saw him mourning his wife (even if it wasn’t the hysterical crying fit some people probably expected when his wife died), we saw him break down his walls with Rhaenyra and tell her the truth about when they were younger, and we saw them re-forge that bond they’ve always had! I wondered if it was gonna be weird between them after being apart for so long (and with a new actress playing Rhaenyra) but they fell right back into their routine with each other. Him standing up for her kids was just the icing on the cake for me. Sure, he didn’t verbally say anything, but when Criston tried to make a move against Rhaenyra and the boys, he was right there to stop him

Also, the angle of the shot when they collided looked like Criston was moving around the conflict instead of towards it, on the side closest to the door Rhae had been trying to go through. This would mean he did not make a direct line for Alicent, but the escape route, which brought him to where Daemon could stop him while he standing watch of the situation unfolding beside him.
I also do not see Criston stopping Alicent from harming Rhae. It would be out of character for him as someone who values honor (his duty is to protect the Queen), hates Rhae, and owes Alicent his life and re-newed honor. Now, if he could re-pay his debt to the Queen by "accidentally" harming Rhae or her children, and it could be seen as being done in line with his duty, that seems a lot more fitting.
In either case, it would have been foolish or apathetic of Daemon to let a loyalist to Alicent anywhere near Rhae or her children after Alicent had ordered him to take the boy's eye.

I don't believe Daemon was ever actually obsessed with the throne, more with his niece. He loves his family, but he's very chaotic and even though sometimes he's right and shows more strength than his brother, he's always punished for speaking or acting out. I think it was more about Rhaenyra than the throne.
Daemon wants to be remembered as a legend, like Achilles. He could care less about the throne unless as a means to an end.

Daemon states in the first episode that he wants to be near to protect Viserys from his small council. The fact that he has called Otto a leech from the outset shows that Daemon understands more about the backstabbing politics than Viserys does. He understands that blood should protect blood.
I think from here out we’ll see a much different side of Daemon. We got a glimpse of it in this episode. He understands that their enemies must fear them if Rhaenyra is to be successful.
Best episode in the whole franchise for me. The revealing silence amongst people, twists and turns in every second, the cinematography, Vhagar,... is just spectacular!
I didn’t know I needed daemon and rhaenyra till this episode…also wedding at the end with all the kids watching as a family that doesn’t hate each other Was cool

Glad you saw it coming, but that wasn’t even a real body, it was a fake skeleton with prosthetic burns. Probably didn’t even have a skin color because the prosthetic “skin” was charred to the bones. It was pinkish because of his “muscles”. You know under our skin ALL races have pink muscles, red blood and white bones?
Seeing aemond getting jumped by the other kids in his family was hilarious not gonna lie😂.
I loved the twin girl for her courage. Aemond was a well trained warrior even at an young age defeating fully grown men in training and she just punched him 😂

@@lottostuuud well Rhaenyra and Alicent technically aren’t blood, but step related through Viserys, and Aegon and Aemond are only Half Uncles to Jace and Luc. Aegon n Aemond only half brothers to Rhaenyra so we know how they are about pure blood n shit so I see why the problem is so big. It’s really King Jaehaerys’s decision coming crashing down, should’ve chose Rhaeneys.
The heart strings were tugged hearing Daenerys' music as Aemond rode Vhagar. You hear the Daznak's Pit beats in the beginning too - really reminding you of the similar feeling of flying "for the first time" even though we may not feel for Aemond the same way we felt for Dany and also reminding you of the Dance. Music, titles, themes,...all full circle.
Your breakdowns are always great, but this one was particularly good because there was so much packed into this episode. The Rhaenys and Corlys scene was so interesting because he's been the one who has not been able to get over that his wife didn't ascend to the throne. Rhaenys knew too that his ambition was going to destroy the family, and now the children with Rhaenyra are not even Velaryons. One of the early casualties in this story is their family.
Aemond losing the eye kinda reminds me of how in the Norse Sagas Odin lost an eye to get great knowledge. The literary idea that a character must first lose something to gain something.
Bran’s another example of this, just less literal. Too bad Aemond isnt wise

i like how they shot the scene with the kids arguing in front of the king as a parallel to when arya, sansa and joffrey had to be brought in front of king bobby back in GoT season 1. king bobby also didn't want to just automatically side with joffrey and was obviously on ned's side and did not want to give cersei the satisfaction while viserys was overprotective of rhaenyra and somehow could not be angry at the strong boys for stabbing aemond in the eye AND also did not give alicent the satisfaction of getting an "eye for an eye".
interestingly, cersei still insisted on vengeance and got sansa's direwolf "lady" killed while alicent got to slash rhaenyra's arm just to get her way.
these intentional parallels are so cool to compare side by side.
I couldn't be happier for Laenor and Rhaenyra too!

I’ve loved the way Paddy Considine has portrayed Viserys’ willful ignorance of these problems. I think there’s an interesting relationship between the rumors around Viserys’ family and his overall health. Viserys seems to deteriorate at a quicker speed as he refuses to address the growing political strife.
This is going to sound weird. I am a teacher, Visery's face when all the kids were screaming at the same time. It reminds of a teacher who has lost control of their classroom. They lose it and tell everyone to should the hell up. That was perfect.
Alicent: “trampled under your pretty foot again. And now you take my son’s eye and to even that you feel entitled”
Rhaenyra: “Exhausting wasn’t it? Hiding beneath the cloak of your own righteousness. But now they see you as you are”

He insulted Rhaena saying it would suit her to ride a pig on the night of her mother’s funeral. Aemond picked up a rock and could have killed Jace. 4vs1 isn’t fair but 2 of them were girls. At first I thought that Rhaenyra slept with Daemon to get pregnant and have a child with Valyrian hair, that she can later claim to be a trueborn from her husband Laenor. But then it got clear that it was just an emotional reunion that ended in physical intimacy. Matt Smith and Emma have a great chemistry otherwise , but they looked off together in the bed.
Aemond flying Vhaegar had a familiar soundtrack like when Jon was having his first flight.

This episode was crazy, my jaw dropped when I saw Laenor was still alive. Really great writing, this show has been amazing!
I thought Emma D'Arcy crushed it in this episode. Olivia Cooke crushed it in Ep 6 but Rhaenyra got Alicent really good. ”They see you for who you really are." Rhaenyra got the cut but Alicent got the emotional scar.
Alicent is the self-righteous and overly religious woman who thinks she's holier-than-thou but is really sad, jealous, and resentful inside. She's trying to hide her personality from her religion but her true character is full of rage and jealousy.
I think the personalities of Rhaenyra and Alicent are flawed where Rhaenyra can be irresponsible and it has ramifications for being a free spirit and reckless. While Alicent is so closed-minded thinking everyone should think and behave like her when the world doesn't work that way. This builds up negative emotions towards others.
I just enjoyed watching my boy Daemon leaning against the wall and watching the fireworks happen. His twin daughters were involved in the little rascals gang fight and he's so cool about it. Didn't even discipline them. It's not like they were the ones scarred or had bloody noses. And Baela got Aemond good from her first swing.
I like how Corlys stood behind Rhaenyra when she got cut. He might be an extremely prideful and ambitious man chasing legacy but he stood behind her knowing damn well Jace and Luke are NOT his biological grandsons. Mad props to House Velaryon. Baela rocks! Wait when she finally rides Moondancer.
Most underrated dragon? Stormcloud. Truly heroic. Just wait when Aegon III is born. While Aegon II is someone I'm not ashamed liking. I find him to be that hilarious d*uche who only cares about getting laid.
I think Aegon II is unintentionally funny like Viserys being Mr. Potato Head from every episode. Which part of Viserys body part has fallen off? No wonder Alicent is so pissed at Rhaenyra. She got to sleep with all the hot guys while Alicent got stuck with a wight.
Viserys is a weekly new meme but so are Aegon II's reactions. I actually laughed when Aegon mocked how weird his sister is. Seems like Alicent has finally accepted Targaryen queer customs by having brother and sister betrothed.

Was I the only one screaming at the screen when the kids were fighting? Aemond always came of kinda sullen but more mature than his brother. This episode made it very clear he can be just as cruel as his brother. I was kinda disappointed that they didn't show Daemon console his children. I already couldn't stand Alicent or Crispin but this episode cemented it for me. Side note.... the disrespect of Laena's death was too much. Alicent and Crispin couldn't even hold it together out respect.
Daemon didn't exactly hold respect for her death as well. He doesn't console his children and immediately sexxed up his neice right after the funeral. No one respected her death except her parents.

Great review Charlie! Thanks for highlighting some easter eggs I missed! This was fav episode of all time, I said that about the last 6 but seriously this is my FAV! It was soo good! I was so emotional when I saw Rhaenyra conspiring to out Laenor, I was like WHAT, he just swore to be faithful to you and got so annoyed and confused but then in the end when it was revealed I was so happy! Aemond conquering the Vhagar was the best scene ever! This episode did an excellent job of setting the stage for the Dance!
That "weird energy" between Rhaenyra and Daemon is called good chemistry. I know it's weird because uncle-niece, but at the end of the day they make a great couple whether we like it or not.

Your analysis are always ‘awesome’ and illuminating. That episode was a roller coaster of emotions and Splendidly done. Not surprised that Daemon and Rhaenyra ended up together. It continues to get better and better. I never read the books so I don’t have preconceived notions. Vegar is powerful but obviously quite old. I was so happy that Leonor escaped safety
The eye-for-an-eye request from Alison Hightower was a callback to the wolf-for-a-wolf demand of Cersei Lannister during the second episode of the original series. As was Corlys' charge "what is the meaning of this," which was the same as Eddard's was when he was brought before the king to see after his wounded daughter and the king's more wounded son.
I also think it was a tit-for-tat moment, much like how Alicent tried to have Lord Lyonel Strong admit his son's affair with Rhaenyra and the subsequent 'bastards', Rhaenyra tried to have it vocalized that Alicent was the one who told her kids.
When Alison requested "eye-for-an-eye" .. i was waiting for Corlys to say something like "thats not gonna happen to my grandchildren" ..it would have been so cool
It really wasn't. The wolves were innocent, Rhaenyra's kids weren't innocent.

3:08 Syrax is the dragon we see first flying over, the one you labeled as Syrax is actually our first look at Sunfyre. Note the straighter horns, pink wing membranes, and of course the lovely gold colour. Also I don't believe Vhagar is in this shot, it seems to be implied in the episode that she spends most of her time alone, especially after just losing her rider. I think it could be Dreamfyre way up in the sky, but also possibly Meleys, it's hard to tell which dragon it is because of how far away it is.
And to whom do those dragons belong to respectively?
@@matt_px0 Sunfyre is Aegon's dragon and Dreamfyre is Helaena's. This is one area of the show where they could really improve, they should properly introduce each dragon and establish who rides them :P

I want to say I saw the reasoning why rhaenyra, and laenor never had kids extremely rhenys ,and his wife's had the same issue in game of thrones that why I thought it unfair to call rhaenyra stupid for never having a child with laenor when she was smart enough to Atleast try to have one with him.
I have two openly gay friends who used to have wives and have had multiple children. They were in the closet 100 percent. The way they explained it is that they just imagined having sex with men. Wonder if Laenor tried the same thing.

The way I interpret it, yes, they did the deed a couple of times. But as we all know, getting preggers on 1st try, even 2nd or 3rd is quite a feat of fertility LMAO. I am inclined to think it was poor timing when they had intercourse and perhaps some slight fertility issues on Laenor's side. Otherwise it's hard to explain why she didn't get pregnant with him... I think Rhaenys cares more about being passed over more than she lets on, that is why she is pushing for Baela to inherit Driftmark. The twins inheriting Driftmark would secure the futures of both of her granddaughters by keeping the two and their future families as major players.
The kids are amazing and it hurts to see them having to become enemies.

One of my favorite episodes of the show so far. Great performances from all of the actors, especially the children. Became a fan of Aemond after the Vhagar scene, then quickly disliked him after he hit Baela and called Jace and Luke bastards.. Then loved him again after the scene in the hall lol. In fact, I felt the same way about Rhaenyra. So far I love the character but had me feeling different thinking she wanted to have Laenor killed. Glad it played out differently in the end.
I’m actually happy for laenor and qarl, they deserve to live in a world where they can be themselves and be happy. Such a good show so far!

Aemond trying to claim Vhagar was the best. The way he looses his eye is better in the series than in the book really liked the changes. From then on the tension was incredible 🔥 the best episode

Also just a correction- queen Elizabeth didn’t have to propose marriage to Prince Philip as she was still princess at the time of their marriage; he asked her. However, her great great grandmother Queen Victoria did propose to Prince Albert as she had already come to the throne at the time of her engagement/marriage.

Caraxes and Sea smoke you are correct.
What you called Vhagar is Dreamfyre , the dragon bonded Haleana . This is one of the three dragons that flies at the end of the episode along with Targarian ship.
Dragon you called Meleys is actually Syrax , that fly towards the scene and we can see Rhaenyra entering the place they all were after few minutes.
And what was labelled Syrax was Sunfyre , with pink wing membranes and golden scales.

@@Synky Vhagar's wings have holes but the dragon flying above didn't. So I knew it was not Vhagar but still a huge dragon. So best guess would ofcourse be the second biggest dragon and since Heleana is also there it is possible.
Meleys is red and at first we can kind of see Syrax face in the clip.
Brown and grey colour of sea smoke .
Sunfyre was golden and smaller than sea smoke.
Caraxes have membrane at the hind legs.

Very good episode. I didn't want Sapochnik to leave the series at first, but now I'm glad he's leaving. That guy's favorite technique is filming in the dark. So tired of having to jack up the brightness, there's been ways to film in the dark forever that still allows people to see what's going on. At least the budget was much less than the Battle of Winterfell GOT episode, where nothing can be seen, but it still brought back flashbacks from that debacle. That and the wigs made out of mop heads are the only downsides, still getting used to that. A very solid episode story wise though.
Just wanted to say one of my favorite things about this franchise coming back, if your breakdown videos. Something about the way you break these episode down is great. Keep doing them I know I look forward to them.
Alicent pulled a knife on the princess, If I was king, the queen would not be a queen to say the least.
This show is really good, the only thing I dislike is at each time period the actors that are portraying that version of all these characters are so good I hate losing them. On the other hand every replacement has been equally as good! This episode was great! Already can’t wait for next Sunday!

I absolutely love your videos per usual. I'm a little late to the game but I finally caught up so being able to watch your videos after watching the episodes always helps you always point out such great details that I miss. This episode was kind of a rollercoaster because you can clearly see in a lot of the scenes that the children don't exactly hate each other yet but of course the fight scene kind of escalates it and put it into full motion. It Absolutely broke my heart when Jace Expressed his want to be at Harwin's funeral. Do hope that the rhaenyra and daemon children stay close 🙏 my brother and I noticed in the hall when alicant lost it that the sea snakes brother was on the "green" side and I'm wondering he's want for driftmark will cause a fraction in their family😕 I honestly believe there are wrongs on both sides of the fight and Rhaenyra father trying to sweep it under the rug doesn't help
