If I'm not mistaken the reason given for H&O is the fact that they have had the most number of chart singles over any other duo. Billboard always places singles as the most important statistic over any other including album sales.

Went to a Hall and Oates show one time with a friend of mine who is a big metal head and he was totally blown away. He even bought a shirt afterwards. These guys are legends.
Check out the web show “Live at Daryl’s House”. Daryl Hall has a recording studio at his property where he invites other artists over to eat and to sing both H&O and the guests songs. Good times and great music.
I loved that show and caught all the episodes on Palladium. Until MTV bought it and ruined it. That's where I heard Daryl say that Van Halen asked him to join and he declined.
Local Philly boys, they met at Temple U. They called it "Blue Eyed Soul" at the time, but it's pop, bottom line. They were massive in the 80's. Saw them at one point and they put on a nice show. Cheers
Their earlier stuff is definitely soul, but you're right about this being closer to pop. I got to see them at the Tower Theater 9 years ago, and I picked up a shirt at the merch table. It had a giant cheesesteak on it. 😂

This song was written to sound like it was about a woman but it was about NYC. John first wrote the music to sound more Reggae but Daryl thought of Motown for the beat. There is a mash up of this song and The Supremes' song: My World Is Empty Without You. You can definitely hear the comparison. You must do more of this duo because each song has a story behind it.

H&O capitalized on the Music video in the early 80s. When MTV started (when the M stood for Music) they had limited stock on various concert videos and promo videos artists used to make for the overseas market (since many groups couldn’t make it to Australia for touring, videos were made for down under) Music videos were frowned upon by many artists early on. My favorite Hall & Oates is their oldest, less pop sounding and more soulful. Try She's Gone, Sara Smile, or Rich Girl, all very popular and should get many views.
Alright Hall and Oates it’s time to go down that rabbit hole. Daryl Hall has a great voice and John Oates vocals compliments well with Daryl’s. Once of the most successful duos in all of music.
The song isn't actually about a woman, it's really about the music industry. Their other big hit song from this era "I can't go for that" is also about the music industry.
I saw them years ago! That guy doing the saxophone 🎷 did like both those parts (how it sounds like 2 saxophones, but it’s 1 person doing it). Amazing show!
I was always hit and miss with Hall & Oates but there's no denying they were prolific. John Oates holds a certain sentiment for committing to the 80s moustache and that he co-wrote the Aussie anthem "Electric Blue" by Icehouse.
Also in Australia 🇦🇺, Daryl Hall was a guest for a 1980s Sydney band named INXS in the song Original Sin. Nile Rodgers 🎸of Chic produced the song and the other songs from the album The Swing.
The sound is a call back to the classic "Motown sound". Listen to the Supremes "Can't Hurry Love". Daryl Hall & John Oates had a big string of hits in the 80s.
Hall and Oats great band underrated song writers and musicians, they have a great library of music. And Darrel had a show called live at Daryls house where they had jam sessions with every kind of music. Never saw anyone react to those, some great content. John Oates - "Well, it was about New York City, after the fact. I got the idea for the song because there was a woman who was very - she was beautiful but had a very foul, you know, vocabulary. It was the juxtaposition of this great beauty with this foul mouth that really kind of sparked an idea to me that she would chew you up and spit you out. I Can't Go For That by Hall&Oates is worth your time. There is a cover of this as well in the video featuring CeeLo Green live at Daryl's House. It is exceptional and worth watching as well. Cheers from Canada
These two guys laid down some of the best tracks of the seventies and eighties. Try Sara Smiles next truly awesome song. Thanks Brad and Lex, Brother Gary
This came out when I was a kid. When we were kids, hanging out with our Dad and Mom starts walking towards us, Dad would start singing this chorus. Always made my sister and I laugh.
Definitely need to check out Live From Daryl's House. Tons of famous artists performed there in like a small bar like setting. Modern artists like Cee Lo Green, to ZZ Top, to the O'Jays, and more. Maybe a different type of react stream you could put on the board.
Hall and Oats are a staple in the eighties. You got to check them out some more to get your kicks and your licks cause they be dropping them bars in between them sax solo. Next do I can't go for that 👍
There are maybe 10 songs among the thousands I've heard that I consider to border on perfect. Two of those songs are by Hall and Oates. I suspect you'll see those two songs mentioned a lot in the comments.
Hall and Oates were two of the best at their music nobody in duo history had the numbers they rack up in the late 70's and 80's I just wish I had see them back then.
Love this song, such a great beat. The lyrics are 'killer'. LOL I just want to get up and dance. I love how you caught those beauty and beast parts. So cool.
This song popped in my head earlier today at work and I thought to myself “I wonder if Brad and Lex have reacted to that yet” Guess this answers that question. Lol
Sarah Smile HAS to be your next Hall & Oates reaction, followed by I Can't Go For That, Your Imagination, and pretty much everything else they ever released lol..
I freaking love Hall and Oates, so many great songs! That being said, this one is fun but not my fave, you should try She's Gone or Sara Smile or Out of Touch or even their cover of You've Lost That Loving Feeling, they do a good job on that one!
The importance of hall and Oates cannot be overstated. They were the most successful duo in history. Their brand of music was called Blue Eyed Philadelphia Soul. They had hits from the mid 1970s through the 80s and into the 90s.
It's what passed for pop dance music in the 80's. Great singers, great lyrics. That era will have no equal for that style of music. Still has power to hold your attention.
A lot of variable to their style.. the "Blue Eye Soul" of many of their hits... seeing plenty of good choices below.. and "Daryl House" tv show has some great jam sessions..
Grew up hearing all their hits on the radio thinking nothing of it, not really a pop radio hit guy. Almost 3 decades later I got a turntable, 3yrs ago(?), and my wife and I are looking at records and she finds their Big, Bam, Boom record, with Out Of Touch/Method Of Modern Love and I haven't been the same since. We now have like 1/2 their catalog. Like Ween each album has a different flavor to it like they are big fans of music in general and it shows in their music. Maybe check out Daryl's House where Daryl Hall teams up with other famous musicians and rework(?) songs then perform them. I think lol

So cool.
This song popped in my head earlier today at work and I thought to myself “I wonder if Brad and Lex have reacted to that yet”
Guess this answers that question. Lol
Sarah Smile HAS to be your next Hall & Oates reaction, followed by I Can't Go For That, Your Imagination, and pretty much everything else they ever released lol..
I like them now better than I used to. I never disliked them, I just like them better now.
Highest selling duo in music history... For a reason. Darryl Oates is a heckuva musician.
I freaking love Hall and Oates, so many great songs! That being said, this one is fun but not my fave, you should try She's Gone or Sara Smile or Out of Touch or even their cover of You've Lost That Loving Feeling, they do a good job on that one!
This is a good intro to Hall and Oates . They have many more great songs
If you do cover Sara Smile may I suggest the one done from Daryl's House with Mr William Robinson Jr....adds a little bit of extra soul
My favorite song is "i can Go for that".
"Can't go for that" classic tune.
The importance of hall and Oates cannot be overstated. They were the most successful duo in history. Their brand of music was called Blue Eyed Philadelphia Soul. They had hits from the mid 1970s through the 80s and into the 90s.
Classic 80s sound but for me their best was earlier from the 70s. She's Gone Sara smile
They had huge hits! You should check out his old TV show Darrells House. Each episode features a lead singer of a band and they jam together.
This is one of those songs that everyone hit the dance floor
That´s an 80s dancefloor classic - brilliant sax :-)
Do some more of Hall & Oates, they have some good hits!
They have so many great hits. For some real soul, you should listen to them do Sara Smile-Daryl Hall (the blond) is terrific!
It's what passed for pop dance music in the 80's. Great singers, great lyrics. That era will have no equal for that style of music. Still has power to hold your attention.
You really should check out the Daryl's House series. Great musicians, awesome music! Daryl is pure blue-eyed soul!
Hall and Oates was before my time, my dad’s generation but they made some great music.
A lot of variable to their style.. the "Blue Eye Soul" of many of their hits... seeing plenty of good choices below.. and "Daryl House" tv show has some great jam sessions..
This iconic duo was also in another video you recently reacted to: USA For Africa - We Are The World
She’s gone is a must by these young lads….
Many great songs by Hall and Oats. Dive in!
Blue eyed soul. Hall and Oates have more bangers than one could count.
I think lol
this is " Philly " soul. Daryl Hall was in the We Are The World video you reacted to recently. He was after Steve Perry from Journey
