I had the privilege of going to high school with Daryl Hall. A better human being you will never find. When you see an interview with him. That is genuine Daryl Hall. I’m just sorry that we lost touch after graduation. Me to the Military and him to fame. Love ya Daryl. Pottstown Pa. misses you too.
I so clearly remember Hall & Oates having hit after hit on the radio back in the day. So, still a lot of songs to go like... I CAN'T GO FOR THAT, PRIVATE EYES and MANEATER
Daryl and John, one of the best duos of all time. If you want to keep the up-tempo songs going, you can do "Private Eyes", "Maneater", "Family Man", or "Say It Isn't So". If you want to tone it back down, you can do "I Can't Go For That", "One on One", or "Everything Your Heart Desires". You can't go wrong no matter what you choose!
"Sara Smile" was the 1st song I heard from these guys. It was played on the urban stations, and we were shocked when we saw them. A laundry list of great music. "Say it isn't So" is my personal favorite.
As many others have commented, Daryl Hall has a channel here on YT called Daryl's House. He has a studio, and invites different artist past and present to come play. It is amazing. I really believe you guys would enjoy it. He even had is old partner John Oates come by and record with him. Daryl Hall is 75 now, doesn't look it and still not only a great singer, but awesome guitarist.
Sara Smile is their best song. WAIT FOR ME really highlights Daryl's voice but if you want a FABULOUS live performance you gotta go to DARYL'S HOUSE with performances with Smokey Robinson singing Sara Smile or the O'JAYS singing USED TO BE MY GIRL . It's truly amazing.
The performances on Daryl’s House are really special. I’ve watched them all and some of them many times over. Hard to believe Daryl is 75 years old now. He’s still a great singer and musician.
Love watching the reruns. Daryl is having health issues, he's cancelled his touring. He's suffering with Lymes disease from numerous tick bites and it has disabling symptoms.
Totally agree! They played down outside of Houston in Richmond, TX. for KRBE104 Radio Station's Ramblin Raft Race on put on a hell of a show. But the beginning of that cd the the intro where he says, "dance on your knees" that was a great intro. for a cd.
Hall & Oates is good little rabbit hole. They always had some great sound in their music. You really can't go wrong with them. The next song you should do by them is Private Eyes.
I like this song because Daryl Hall was not a lazy performer. His delivery for each chorus or repetition was different. At the end he added so much vocals rather than let it fade to music. It could have been such a simple song but Daryl's effort made it so much more.
My favorite song by this great band. I’m bummed you didn’t do the video since it’s such a fun one, but I know it’s hard with copyright and whatnot. You should watch it either way. I saw Hall & Oates live last year and was amazed, they put on a great show and still got it after all these years!
I was so bummed as well! So I went and watched it myself!! That is the one they should have watched! Love Hall and Oats! They need to go take a look at it!!
Songs like this were in the backdrop of the intense world of my young life. They meant something that felt deep with meaning and emotion, and still do. I thought about precious memories lost in time today.
i remember when i was a kid i heard their song - sara smile, but i didn't know that it was them. i would go through the radio stations trying to find it. it's truly one of the best ballads ever. 45 years later it's still one of my favorite songs. check it out, you'll love it.
My favourite Hall and Oates song. So beautifully produced and ridiculously catchy. I'm glad you reacted to the single version - the official video uses an edit of the 12" version, which is fun (as is the video) but not as perfect as the single mix. Try 'Say It Isn't So' next.
The first two cassette tapes I ever bought for myself back in elementary school was this Hall and Oates album and Pat Benatar! There was a store called FYE...For Your Entertainment. Man! You could put on headsets and sample music before you bought it. Awesome!
Daryl Hall considers the term blue-eyed soul a pejorative term when describes his music. He"s part of the Philly soul music scene and doesn't differentiate himself when it comes to representing soul and R&B music
There is a song on the "Sara Smile" album called "It Doesn't Matter Anymore" which is one of my favorites. I used to hear it on the radio back in the day. It wasn't a big hit of their's but I think you'll like it.
Yep, great song! it was their first album after dropping Atlantic Records and it came to be known as The Silver Album! The track, "Camellia", was fantastic!
Finally! You've come back around to Hall and Oates. So many great songs from them. They are Rock and Roll Hall of Famers and Song Writing Hall of Famers. The top selling duo in music history!
Hall and Oates is literally one of the best duos of all time their sound was one of kind you knew when one of their songs came on who it was! They have a wide range of hit singles from the 70s to the 90s! Great Pop and R&B sound!
Hall + Oates are hit makers! “Out Of Touch” came out when I was in High School…it was an awesome soundtrack addition to that time of my life! Again, watching the progression of these two from early ‘70’s (She’s Gone) to (Out Of Touch) is a how-to in excelling in your Pop career! Kudos to Philly’s Dynamic Duo!
Back in the early 80’s I worked a reception desk where salesman were really nice to the gatekeeper, me! I received so many concert tickets! I can still see me, my ex and yes people, my MOM! Groovin to this concert!!
I love Hall and Oates, they were the hottest duo of the eighties! I’m very disappointed that you did not play the original video for this song…it’s such a fun video! ❤️❤️
Hall & Oates appeared on an Elton John tribute album called "Two Rooms" in which they sing an excellent version of the EJ song "Philadelphia Freedom". I know you guys love some Sir Elton and you might want to give it a listen.
I can’t think of one they made that I didn’t like or love. Love these lyrics too! Great duo. You guys have good taste in the artists you groove with. Oh it’s been in movies.
You nailed it, Amber-their songs are catchy. Even songs of theirs I don’t like that much I find myself singing long after I’ve heard them. “I Can’t Go For That” is still my front-runner for them. Or maybe “Private Eyes.”
I saw them live twice. They were fantastic both times! My favorite H & O songs are Wait For Me and I Can't Go For That but all of their songs are good.
Thanks for reacting to this song and bringing back a memory of seeing them in concert at the Celebrity Theatre (Phoenix, AZ) in 2002. They really brought it, and this song in particular was a stand out.
I hope you feel better Amber! I'm sorry you're in pain! I'll say a prayer for you!! I have been watching the Playing for Change channel. I love it! So much beautiful talent all over the world!
I never listened to them much as a kid, because I was an idiot and thought they weren't "hard rock" enough. Eventually I learned good music is good music, and genre and what your friends think is "cool" or "uncool" can go take a hike.
Hall & Oates were the biggest pop/rock/r&b duo of all time. Please react to a song of theirs that doesn't get the attention it deserves: Do What You Want, Be What You Are. Great reaction!
One of the cassette tapes my Mom used to pop in the car when I was a kid! A similar song I think Amber would dig, Dan Hartman, "I can dream about you" =vibes.
These guys had hit after hit after hit from my favorite SARA SMILE to RICH GIRL and this energetic gem that keeps you moving and feeling happy. They met a few times in 1967 and officially got together and formed in Philadelphia in 1970. Their first number 1 single was RICH GIRL in 1977. I'm so glad you guys are reacting to this great song.
Watch Live at Daryl’s House. No Oats but has Daryl at his house playing with his band and special guest artists. Musicianship is unbelievable. Daryl sounds better than ever. I think there may be an episode or 2 with John Oates You won’t be disappointed. .
Their catalogue is tremendous!! You could do one song a day for years and not find a bad song!! 🎶⭐💗 "I Can't Go For That (No Can Do)" is my favorite track of theirs!!
Check out "Possession Obsession" for John Oates on lead vocals. Also their cover of The Righteous Brothers' "You"ve Lost That Lovin' Feeling." And another underrated classic of theirs, "Some Things Are Better Left Unsaid."
Love me some Hall and Oates....I'd suggest two great songs that I've yet to see reactions to: "Wait For Me" and a deep cut called "Open All Night". Also, Method of Modern Love, and Say it isn't So are two popular must do from H&O.
You guys need to check out the TV show live from Darryl's House. They have a guest artist come in for a jam session. They will crossover and do each other's tunes. Gr8 show
So many more good ones to cover - I Can't Go For That, Maneater, Private Eyes, Sara Smile, Say It Isn't So, Adult Education, One on One, Method of Modern Love, Kiss On My List, and their cover of You Lost That Lovin' Feelin' by The Righteous Brothers.
That's so awesome and sweet! Thank you for sharing! 😊
Im from Pottsville pa area, not far from ya
I lived in Lansdale, PA in those times. Saw Oates play at our high school gym (North Penn HS). What a treat.
Wow! Thanks for sharing.
He seems to be a real cool dude. Great story
Takes me back when I used to play GTA Vice City, this song plays when you go to the yacht party. Huge fan of Hall and Oates
Yeah I went there 😀
This song is pure distilled eighties injected right in your veins and I absolutely love it.
😃
💪💪
Burning all the modern crap out of it.
So right!!
Daryl Hall's best vocal performance.
I so clearly remember Hall & Oates having hit after hit on the radio back in the day. So, still a lot of songs to go like... I CAN'T GO FOR THAT, PRIVATE EYES and MANEATER
Definitely Maneater
And Simply Red sampled I Can't Go for That in their song Sunrise
Make my dreams come true is my favorite
You Make My Dreams Come True

Yes totally agree! I love I'm a family man!
Private Eyes!!!!
Adult education
They're good, but Simon and Garfunkel were the most popular duo of all time.
Thanks for reacting to this song. My favourite Hall and Oates song ever.
It has great production. Maybe not my favorite, but this one just has great sound. Yeah. It's perfect. Maybe my favorite, too. Lol
These two were gigantic throughout the late 70s and all through the 80s! Daryl Hall has one of my all time favorite voices.

@@carollittle1059 I’m sorry to hear that.
This is their most Disco sounding song and even got played on NYC Hip Hop radio!
This album, "Big, Bang, Boom" was killer from beginning to end! Love me some Hall & Oates!

Memories of the summer of 1984, a great year for music. Then again, every year that decade was.
'You Make My Dreams Come True' is one of their biggest hits.
They have so many fantastic songs and I love this one. Sara Smile rocks.
Hall & Oates is good little rabbit hole. They always had some great sound in their music. You really can't go wrong with them. The next song you should do by them is Private Eyes.
Definitely one of MY ALL TIME FAVOURITES!!! I jam this often
The video edit of this song is excellent, it’s more energetic and more dance oriented. This was a #1 song on the Hot 100 singles chart
I like this song because Daryl Hall was not a lazy performer. His delivery for each chorus or repetition was different. At the end he added so much vocals rather than let it fade to music. It could have been such a simple song but Daryl's effort made it so much more.

Hall And Oates one of my favorites growing up and seeing them in concert. Daryl’s amazing writing talent and voice and John’s quiet confidence..
Songs like this were in the backdrop of the intense world of my young life. They meant something that felt deep with meaning and emotion, and still do. I thought about precious memories lost in time today.
