It's kind of funny how the whole "subvert your expectations" thing became so memed on for being a cheap method of writing a story that dumbs down the whole thing for shock value, when it is really at the core of why ff7 remake is the way it is. Every single franchise in existence gets criticized for doing this yet final fantasy is the only one where you'll see it's "fans" defend the practice with their last breath.

The mystery box storytelling or the “long con” has been employed by SE on purpose. How do you convince people to buy 3 full priced games that could’ve been 1? You place mystery after mystery with 0 resolution to keep players there in the hopes they’ll eventually find out what the mystery was all along. I guarantee by the end of this story it will just all say “see, nomatter how much you wanted to change things they always had to happen the same way all along” meaning all of these mystery’s and changes were simply there for shallow reasons, to keep people buying the game thinking they won’t know what happens. This is why they’ve also included so much fan service also. This trilogy was always made to milk the fan base and square said it themselves years ago that they’d only remake 7 if they were out of ideas or desperate.

Also heard rumors of a ff9 remake as well 🤮. I imagine that's what Square is going to start doing with all of the more popular entries. They're basically going to be doing what Capcom is doing with Resident Evil with Nomura at the helm, since it's easier as they already have parts of the story done and all of the visual design done, while letting Yoshi do the new entries.
Basically I think they're about to give Nomura free reign to spit all over the entire legacy of Final Fantasy. It would be perfectly in line with every other bad decision Square has made for the past 20+ years. We'll probably have a ff8, 9, and 10 "remake" here before long. God help us all.

In retrospect, I'm rather glad I didn't become a FF7 fan until my twenties. Something about the urbanization of FF didn't sit well with me when I was a kid, so I "hated" it and never gave it a chance. When I did get around to playing it, I felt like I had robbed my childhood by not playing it then.
When FF7 Re-imagin-equel-make was made I found myself excited, then annoyed by what it actually is. I never found myself being sad about it though, and I think it's because I got into it so late. I don't have childhood nostalgia wrapped into the game.
So in retrospect, I didn't really rob my childhood of the experience of FF7. I saved my adulthood the pain that FF7 Remake could have inflicted.

There's a lot of hype for Rebirth, but I'm pretty sure Remake didn't create many new fans. Mostly just old fans that were complacent or had an illusory idea that a desecration of the story could ever turn into something worthwhile.
The third installment will be the last, and will be rushed out so Square can stop the Final Fantasy VII bleed. It will be a shit game along with Rebirth, and the only game that has any worth will have been Remake ironically, as it's the one that will have followed the story more closely.

Its crazy how people are now retroactively changing their stance on what they wanted from a FF7 Remake. When that FF7 PS3 tech demo first dropped everyone wanted a Remake in a true sense, 1 to 1 but with additional improvements to enhance the experience and maybe even flesh out some things that was never realized in the original. Now that remake released and its complete different than what me and others like myself asked for, you have another portion of the fanbase saying "I never wanted a 1 to 1 remake" or "I prefer this, who wants to play the same game again." which is complete bullshit, a lot of these so called fans are now pretending like they never wanted a 1 to 1 remake of this game. that never crossed any one of their minds when that PS3 tech demo dropped.
FF7 Remake didn't sell the way SE had hoped. It had a strong start but sales dropped quickly and thats because word spread around that its not a remake and instead a reimagine, a completely different game. If you thought FF7 Remake was different then prepare for Rebirth, this entry is going to jump the shark on the fans.

You can t appreciate that the most ambitious game has the most ambitious remake, you don't deserve ff7 lordy. Hopefully when these geniuses are kind enough to be back at their craft, they don't listen to their fetishistic ungrateful fans. I always thought the unreliable narrator twist couldn t work once again, especially with live acting. Also aerith death would hit so much less if telegraphed. You can disagree with the way they recreate it but we re tired of 1to1 that are just museum tours, they loose all kind of interest, when they even pay a real tribute to their inspiration. If you were a hardcore fan, you d also like the expanded lore of compilation, and would love to see it developed anew. But rage has its grift. A real fan is still very satisfied with the original as it is. And is confident ever crisis will be enough.

Also how do you know everyone wanted a 1:1 remake? Again where’s your data to back this up? Also what’s wrong with changing your mind? Maybe people really like the direction the Remake series is going and are on board with the project.
Purists like you are just mad that people love Remake and want to create this false narrative that everyone wanted a 1:1 and hate this new direction. And don’t you dare use “so called fans”. We are fans as much as you are.

    • @vincentgraymore

@@TheManaTree777 FF VII remake has preformed well. The game being at 7 M copies shipped and sold now. 3+ M at launch is good for a modern game, even if compared to the amount of consoles it released to (~110 M at 2020), the % is among the worst of all FFs. Overall, the game is a success, but it would also have had to tank really hard to make the project make a full stop.
However, the blame game is rather tiresome. I get that you get triggered by seeing comments like this, but using purist as a negative label and being hostile does not really help the debate. There is nothing wrong having FF VII remake be "the thing I didn't know I actually want" and I have seen threads about hoping Aerith survives as well as JJ Abrahams Star Trek movies comparisons long before remake came out, but these were also not the majority of what seemed to be what people expected. It does seem that a lot of people have changed their mind, but what the OP is trying to say is that a lot of people seemingly now basically lie, to themselves and others, by saying they always wanted that, compared to acknowledging that they changed their mind.
Every disgruntled fan has a right to express themselves and a lot have been forced by the especially strong narrative of "real fans like FF VII remake" (I see people talk "for me" all the time, everywhere with comments that sound like "We FF VII fans be eating good"/"This is truly what FF VII fans wants"/etc, which I don't agree with at all, and I am a fan), so they retaliate in turn. The urge from the majority to suppress and silence the disappointed fans after release, and even now, only created a more hostile variety, which then express themselves especially strong, which also means that the debate bleeds out to people that just want to enjoy and express themselves casually.
It is hard to like some, dislike and hate some but not get labeled straight complete hater that wanted a 1:1, and both sides uses the "true fan banner" but the positive side is also so much larger that it drowns the majority of the minority that dislike remake for whatever reason (story, episodic, gameplay etc). The way I see it: anyone can be a fan of anything, and each side in this conflict have a constant need to fight for the "true fan", something that has been done in all fandoms since inception, but now people have the internet and the need to reaffirm that one isn't alone, on both sides, is stronger these days.

Whether the ending to the whole thing is decent or not doesn’t absolve previous parts from their writing sins.

Even if they somehow manage to pull of a perfect sequel and conclusion, this whole trilogy will still be tainted by the first game. And the only way they actually pull that off at this point is pretend all of the ridiculous Nomura esque BS from the remake just doesn't exist and retcon it, as it totally disrupts the core of what ff7 is supposed to be. So either they retcon 1/3 of this thing to ensure the other 2/3 of it are on the right path, or they keep the first 3rd intact, which is what they are going to do, and allow it to steer the sequels off a cliff. Either way the trilogy is permanently ruined. I think we should be way past the point of being optimistic about anything in regards to the gaming industry in 2023

    final fantasy VII : rescripted
new game opens on a girl by the water shes playing and holding a shiny object to her eye. shes told by her mother dressed like the ancients in the cutscene (that was perfect until sephiroth appeared for no reason other than developer boredom) tells her to come inside for dinner and when she gets in the house shes running around with her brother.
3 ancients and an ancient with seniority can be heard in the other room saying they last saw her in the area, they are sure her mana is depleted but it wont be long until she regains her strength. the kids come running through the room like kids do when they are playing and the sister says the sister says to the brother something about a witch by the sea. the adults overhear it and realise because of the shiny object the girl has seen jenova. now your heading out with three unknown ancients heading towards the bone village you catch up with her and you have contain materia on all 3 ancients having done extensive damage you cast freeze sealing her away in ice her power depleted shes alive but trapped" the ancients relay their concern to an older ancient who says not to worry because if we bury that ice this far north it will never melt. you see the red materia in his staff start to glow and it gives you the option to cast anger of the land. titan appears and jenova is buried near the bone village geological dig site.
the little girl is outside her house as the 3 ancients and one elderly ancient return. the mother looks at the men. 'its done. it will hold.' she turns to her daughter and says as the screen cuts to black 'go inside Ifalna.' then you get a close up of aerith on the road to kalm.
    this intro would:
Explain how Jenova wound up in a geological stratum for thousands of years.
show us ancients protecting the planet from jenova. and let us use them in battle!
let us use materia as an expressive tool within the storyline.
add mystery about ancients and humans aging at different rates.
instead we have ghosts and plastic bags with dogs on them and a character who's supposed to be dead alive for no reason other than ..... multiverse!!!!
the problem i have with the stuff that's added to final fantasy rebirth is it doesnt use gameplay and story simultaneously. there is a big difference between being put in the middle of the action and getting to cast freeze on jenova than just watching a cutscene where you hold the shoulder buttons for a long time. it never addresses questions you might have had about the first game and it's only satisfaction vector seems to be changing story beats or at least threatening to. so the gameplay loop is you silently travel to a location and see if its different or the same. ancients living a long time and losing their longevity as they integrate themselves and their bloodlines with humans is a nice detail. you could even have Gast see Ifalna as a research subject that he grows to love over time. a contrast in approach to that of hojo
No fan of the original title wanted the game to go unexpanded or even subtly changed to modernise it. (clouds cross dressing scene going from something that was quite homophobic to something much more contemporary and appropriate is a good example of ways to make things better.) but tifa getting eaten by weapon and the game stealing plot points from later simply because you couldn't think of anything is wildly frustrating. the tone deaf nanaki and seto sequence makes me think none of the staff that are there have ever had to balance any of the work they do everything is so over the top... and then sephiroth appears again!!!
having a well written 20 hour title with 100 hours of side content for the kids would keep the bloat off the mainline story and let it hit those emotional beats and maintain its pacing. We dont want these games to be the original, we just want the storytelling quality to match the original and it doesnt.

@@wildchameleon7622 so, in defeating those advent children spirits weve erased them from the future, because their bestiary description says theyve manifested in order to protect what gave shape to them. So if you dont like advent children then its kinda cool that there could be an alternative future now. This would also mean dirge of cerberus is not the futute either, which is also good because that was a terrible game.
The side quests that you didnt enjoy is understandable, and wasn't exactly paced well, but wasnt under the umbrella of "flooded with useleas nonsense," because if you do them all you can see an extra cutscene with Tifa where she tries to ask cloud about where he's been. Also it allows more chances to engage in the combat, which is very good and one of the best in the series.
A 1:1 remake with better graphics would be a disappointment to me overall. There are issues with the OG that could use an overhaul. For example, the way cait sith joins always seemed very awkward. Then the keystone quest was a bit haphazard because of how it's stolen but then just given to you at the entrance anyway by Tseng. Following that theres this BS with cait sith version 2. Another example is when Rufus arrives in rocket town to take the tiny bronco. This also makes no sense, he already has helicopters and airships.
Im glad they are taking some risks here with Remake and bending what a Remake can actuablly be. I also like the idea that they arent ingoring the compilation, but trying to incorporate it even though it wasnt well received before, to give some of it's ideas a second chance.

Second, nomura wanted it to be more like the OG, so its not his fault. He also isnt directing Rebirth and had co-directors on the first game. You can blame Nojima for any BS that you see, who invented the story of ff7 and is writing the remake, who also seemed quite cheeky when asking fans
If they noticed the stamp chip bag.
Kitase, who directed the OG but is producing the remake wanted to kill off all the characters in the OG back in 97'. It was Nomura, who had the genius idea to kill off only Aerith. So blame nomura all you want i guess.
As for my kingdom hearts explanation....
In the OG sephiroth states at temple of the ancients that he has traveled the lifestream and gained the knowledge (consciousness in japanese) of the ancients and then says "i will create the future." This is after the temple is destroyed and produces the black materia. I see these reality bending aspects of the remake as an attempt by the devs to visually show you how sephiroth is going to create the future and become a god.
Ge says further that he will absorb the lifestream by sending meteor. At the end of remake we see him absorb all kinds of memories or lifestream in the singularity. Much of the "kingdom hearts" stuff you dont like is just greater visual enhancement of concepts from the OG.
Finally, the temple of the ancients in the OG has a broken giant clock which speaks to you and says is the time keeper. You can go forward in time or backward in time, but it does nothing and only acts as a bridge for you. Possibly this is broken because sephiroth used it or it was an old concept they didnt have time to use back in 97'.

This is a very beautifully written video! But I’d caution to be a bit more patient with the remake project. A bunch of theories out there with timelines and what not, but im of the view that it’s much more simple: the first game, the developers, the marketing, even prob most if not all of the second game is lying to us. Because in the original we didn’t know what was going on until 2/3 in. So they’ve taken that theme and made it meta. The question is if whatever this new lie is will be impactful in the same way the OG’s lie and subsequent reveal of Cloud’s past was. Which might be hard to do because while the first game lied to us for like a couple days/ weeks depending on your first play through, this lie is going on 4 years. But we shall see. At least the game is fun and nostalgic af even if they fail on the payoff

At the end of the fellowship of the ring I knew what was going on, I didn’t leave having 0 clue what was coming next because the book and film had a consistent beginning middle and end.
The OG never really lies to us about cloud, cloud is telling the truth, then sephiroth also is and so is Tifa the “lie” is that cloud was there he just had his helmet on and wasn’t in soldier and his fractured psyche inserted himself in Zacks place in the retelling due to trauma but his description of events is accurate.

@@ItsSVO I guess “falsehood” would have been a better word to use than “lie” because yeah Cloud and Tifa weren’t lying, the only one who actively was (is) lying was Seph. My point was that there is an unknown in this retelling that will (hopefully) be cleverly revealed in a similar way to that of the original. We’re not leaving Midgar/Remake having 0 idea of what is going on either. They ended Remake with mostly the same plot points in tact as the original: Cloud on a mission to find Seph not knowing he’s being manipulated, and Shinra still being an active threat to the planet. The thing that has changed is the main mystery, mainly why/ how Zack is alive. I don’t think any of the theory crafters have it right. The concern to me is whether the new mystery will have the shocking payoff that they’re clearly going for and whether it will be thematically in line with the original (loss, identity, self-acceptance, etc.)

    • @vincentgraymore
      @vincentgraymore Год назад +4

@@superramio A problem that I experience in debates with people with similar mindset as you, and I am not the only one, is that you and I are on fundamentally different levels regarding the impact of what can be and what have been. You talk about staying in line with loss, identity, self-acceptance, etc "similar to the OG" but from my point of view these themes are very warped irreversibly by remake, and it matters in what way and how they are explored in order to "stay faithful".
Loss is very different in a world where time can be altered, compared to one where it can't. Characters can still mourn and death etc can still be felt and be very real for the characters, but you always have that "what if" within reach because if time has been altered once, it can be altered again (even if you kill the whispers, whatever they tapped into is still there and something can always take its place later). This is very different from real life loss. Tell me, have you had a loved one die? Did you wish you could change that, reverse that, have a second chance at it or get relief by getting one last moment to say goodbye? In the OG this was the point, there is no second, you cannot find that last moment because noting can go back in any capacity, whisper or other being. It is close to reality.
This is what I wanted out of a FF VII "remake" and giving "hope" misses the point to have a meta mystery. Killing other, killing the same differently, misses the point. Loss is loss, grief is grief, but narratives are important in specific ways to why and how, it shouldn't be enough to experience specific feelings because of general story telling, but rather specific feelings because of specific story. Time travel stories can still deal with themes of loss and death, but it is very different compared to a world of permanence, no seconds, no alternative, just linger pain lasting forever. It is also very different when you recontextualize the OG. Even the losses in OG is now in question because the "lore of FF VII" include time altering to be possible, so remake not only affects its own theme, but change the OG one into an exploration from the viewpoint of the new.
Identity is very different and extremely challenging to pull off even remotely similar now. They are playing with forces that might not or already have added versions of characters. Just like with loss you can still deal with this topic, like spiderverse and comics, but it is very different compared to dealing with identity in a fixed world without alternatives and what ifs that the OG didn't have. Do we care if the party has versions of "them" dying on the highway? Do we care about a person's experience when reality can have it erased? Tell me, do you consider Sylvie "The Loki" in Loki TV series? Because they are different entities, and a reality (multiverse, rewritten timeline or not) cannot have characters taking credit for their alternative selves. A prime example in FF VII remake is Zack. When people say stuff like "Zack deserves to live"/"Zack shouldn't die this time" they are in fact acknowledging this is another character. Do we like a Zack that didn't die defending Cloud, and do people realize that we can't give credit for that to this version? Why should we care about another Zack that never died as a hero back then? People faulty give credit to characters that haven't even done the deeds, but instead celebrate the deviancy in order to have a version of them alive as a personality rather than a character. It is a complicated matter, and I simplify. A problem rampant in comics and multiverse stories. I don't want to explore a time version of Zack that didn't die, especially not on the premise of literally overwriting the existence of another Zack in the world by time manipulation. I like Cloud and co, not "Cloud X and Y co". To be fair, we would always have this problem even with reboots, but then we would have a meta problem, not a time version problem and this time problem exist even just within remake itself without the context of the rest of FF VII.
My point of writing all this (that got longer than I planned) is that I encounter a lot of people that think the cost of the new mysteries is low and not interfering with the old, while I don't agree at all. The cost is very high, and the price has already been paid. You cannot erase what has already been done in remake, so it won't matter in this aspect what happens in other parts, even if we get recontextualized then. If you think the price is worth it then fine, we won't agree with each other, but please, at least acknowledge the viewpoint and that there has been a cost that people like me consider too high. Regarding the rest, the portrayal of the personalities, the gameplay etc is great, but the "new" for being "new" is just [****] and it is not because there is change, certain change in remake is good, but not all changes are equal and sometimes like in any area of life, change sucks.

My mind slowly changed on it over time to kind of just go along with the ride and see what happens. Part of what helped was reading Traces of Two Pasts and Nojima’s other works which to me are very congruent with the original. Idk, I just don’t think the devs have completely lost it, but the jury is still out for me. Don’t want to get too in to it anymore, but yeah we might just have to accept our outlooks on the Remake and it’s cost are different. I also just don’t think the multiverse, single alternate timeline, and all the time shenanigans people are talking about is the only explanation. For all we know Cloud is in the Lifestream and we’re playing through a very elaborate Lifestream sequence in which Aerith is fighting the influence of Sephiroth to bring Cloud back to the reality that she and Zack are dead.

    • @ItsSVO
      @ItsSVO Год назад +6

@@superramio the issue here is that you can’t really repeat the genius of the original cloud again in a different way because it has too many moving parts to do so. What SE should’ve done is just do this reveal the same way it was before with multiple unreliable narrators.
Except you are, that’s why there’s a million theory videos and most of the forums I saw after completing the game were full of people either not knowing what was happening or giving their interpretation. That’s the problem when you shoehorn in a vague ending. You say you know what’s going on, so is Zack alive? Is sephiroth from advent children? Is the story going to play out like FF7 from now? You have to be able to answer those questions correctly at this point for that to be true.
The issue with destiny and time travel in story’s is it by proxy changes the story forever regardless of whether they now follow the Beats 1:1. This is because a story is much more than simple plot points like an ending beginning and middle. The story is everything, how it affects the characters, the emotional cause and effect. For example, if there are multiple timelines then Aeriths death doesn’t really matter, because she’s alive elsewhere in another timeline alive. Do you see what I mean? Time paradox’s change the meaning of many actions and the weight of them within the new context.
The new shocking payoff won’t be the same because it’s been manufactured in an unnatural way. Aeriths death was shocking because it happened out of the blue but also because destiny and fate was a non existent entity in FF7 so we knew she was gone. Whatever they do now to “shock” us with a random event will feel hollow because we’re aware they’re trying to shock us with something already. Reveals and events can be retold again and have the same effect as it originally did if done well, it doesn’t have to rely on shock factor. For example, I always know boromir is going to die when I watch the fellowship, but I always get emotional listening to his speech to Aragorn because the moment is beautifully acted and written. Aeriths death could’ve been the same but the writers seem to care more about “will we? Won’t we? Mystery box!” Instead of just writing the moment to hurt in other ways instead.
This obsession some people have with mystery for the sake of mystery and subverting expectations constituting good writing baffles me.

I really don’t understand the mindset of the people who defend it. They know this was marketed as a remake of one of the most legendary games of all time. Then they shame og fans for expecting…the game it was marketed as. None of these people would have this disaster to enjoy if it wasn’t for us og fans in the first place.
If you enjoy this “remake” good for you, but don’t pretend it’s what you wanted or expected. Maybe put yourself in our shoes. No matter how people feel about the game, anyone should be able to see the deceitful marketing they used.
I wonder, who this was for? Surely not people who love the original game. And why would someone who never played the original be interested in a remake of a game they never played? To experience a legendary game that has been updated to modern quality? That’s not what this is, it’s a totally different game. I feel bad for young gamers who haven’t played the original and think playing “remake” will give them that experience, it won’t. That doesn’t mean some people won’t enjoy it, but it’s not Final Fantasy 7.
I hate the line in the trailer “the unknown journey continues.” It is not unknown. It is known, and it’s one of the best games ever made. It didn’t need to be fundamentally altered or changed to try to improve it. The original will always be remembered for the impact it had, the remake will be forgotten. I guess that’s satisfying enough for me.

If your standard for good or acceptable storytelling is them making asinine changes purely to subvert expectations then I don’t know what to say. Good storytelling doesn’t need to rely on such shallow contrivances. Look at the lord of the rings trilogy, it adapted the original work and made necessary changes to have it fit on film but it didn’t resort to cheap “tricks” to subvert fans of the series expectations. Gandalf died true to the books, because it matters how it’s done not if it is. Nobody enjoyed those films less because they already knew the outcome, something SE and remake fans don’t understand because they don’t care about the integrity of a narrative, they care about fan-service and social media points/reactions.

I think a lot of people seem to not understand the point of remakes.
It's not just to revisit past games but to bridge the gap between longtime fans and current fans who felt alienated from the newer titles.
And let's be honest here, modern Square Enix cannot write for shit.
The story was the LAST thing that needed a overhaul.
It doesn't even matter if they follow similar story beats because the overall tone and theme of the game is now ruined.
The OG wasn't about "what could have been" but acceptance of loss and overcoming grief by putting the past behind you.
Somehow, Square missed that"adding "alternate timelines" and" defying destiny " as the theme of the Remake which contradicts the original.
For example, Barrett's arc is now lost because they decide to allow Biggs and Wedge (possibly Jessie) to live when later in the game in the original, he had to live with the fact that his quest for revenge got more people killed and he had to live with that guilt just like what happened in North Corel...
That's now lost. Also shifting the blame of the Mako bombings now absolve Avalanche of any responsibility for any casualties , removing the many nuances the characters had.
They changed way too much, so much to where we should ask, is this even FF7 anymore?

I can't speak for everyone that dislike 7R but I know I wasn't against any type of change whatsoever. I really like the new gameplay system, I really like most of the revisited OST, I like the voice acting and I really liked the chapter where we go see Jessie's parents. But then there are changes/additions that are either in contradiction with what the original work was trying to convey or straight up incompetently written.
I don't disagree on the fact that th remake brought new people toward the OG, and that's great. but it also made people believe that the Remake's story is also the original's story, because that's what remakes are supposed to be, and I find it pretty sad that some people will never experience the original story.
Also I don't get why the people who wished for a 1-1 faithful retelling should be the one to put their own desires aside, why would we not be allowed to be selfish but you guys are ? And yes they surprised us, but surprise and change isn't always good, and in that case I'd argue it isn't. I'm completely convinced a 1-1 retelling was the choice that'd please the most peoplee. I guess I can at least appreciate the risk taking, but personally I think it's a straight up fail.

I appreciate the perspective, but I have to respectfully disagree. I can’t help but think, that there should be a little care and attention taken with not only one of the most critically acclaimed games of all time, but to also show even an ounce of respect to such a generous fanbase, that were so vocal over decades, asking for a faithful retelling of their favourite game, that the company actually did it. If calling it a ‘slap in the face’ is putting it lightly, then the false marketing, complete disregard for the original themes of the game which made it so great, or the in-game “meta” commentary about a toxic fanbase exemplified perfectly by Aerith’s comment "Every time the Whispers touch me, I lose...a part of myself," would in fact be more akin to taking a Jurassic Park sized steamy dump on them instead. They could have done this to ANY title, why the one with so much prominence, consequence and stature? It dumbfounds me to say the least.

@@JeanBobInnelemonde I grew up with the OG and that game shaped the course of my gaming interests. But I’m not alone, FF7 was truly a game that revolutionized not only JRPG/RPG but all gaming and many gamers were impacted. While it may make sense to then say, “don’t mess with what made it great, keep it faithful” I would also argue that revisiting such a story and only cleaning things up on such an influential game sounds like a missed opportunity.
What if the developers wanted to recreate the same thrill they were able to accomplish like they did in ‘97? Even people who never played FF7 know who Sephiroth is and who Aerith are and what happens to her. Her death was visceral and felt the world over. So why not take a fresh approach or give players that had dreamed of a reality to keep Aerith alive a hope that this could happen? It could be another iconic moment when they realize they cannot.
I will agree on the point that they should have never said it wasn’t going to change, if they always planned on changing things. But we also haven’t seen the full conclusion so we don’t have the full vision. Also, many things in the OG were vague and unclear what actually was happening or how things just magically resolved themselves. They would have had to make adjustments for these things anyways, so getting a 1-1 means we are still left out of the loop of many things, and that isn’t smart game design.
I’m willing to set aside my desires because I was in the 1-1 remake camp as well. I literally wanted a remake when I saw how good FF8 looked a year later. I could only imagine seeing a world like in the recent trailer and now I can. And I find it sad that players who still want a 1-1 like this YT are lamenting basically the death of a game they loved instead of celebrating like many others. I’m sad that they are letting what they want get between them and what they are being given. Because at the end of the day, it never needed to be remade. And it’s clear to me the people responsible for these decisions are doing their best to create a game anyone can pick up and be excited for. And it’s getting many new timers coming into the OG FF7 scene, so I only see things moving positively, despite not having a true remake.

Again, appreciate the perspective, and if I had to choose between nothing and what we got, I’d choose what we got. The battle system, the character designs, most of the soundtrack and a good portion of the voice acting were impeccable. One thing I find myself constantly repeating to people though, is this: what if instead of subverting our expectations through cheap changes to the storyline, they focused all those resources and energy into subverting our expectations through EXECUTION, using the parameters of OG and it’s storyline. I’ve always been a proponent of ‘OG plus’, meaning feel free to add tastefully, but stay within your lane. Imagine what we would’ve got if they’d done this? I feel robbed of many scenes, particularly of the initial meeting between Cloud and Aerith.

Of course we do know now that Final Fantasy 7 Remake is actually more of a sequel than just a remake but I truly didn't mind that at all. I can appreciate that by "Changing Fate" in the new game they are acknowledging the originals presence instead of just ignoring it completely and changing things up for no reason. It just makes me kind of sad for the other OG fans who can't fully enjoy the FF7R games because of the underlying resentment from not getting a faithful remake because FF7R does have such an amazing story in my opinion.

They could’ve acknowledged the original properly by remaking it with the themes intact. Of course not, because they care about the narrative and what made that story what it was. We, the fans of the narrative care about the same thing in regards to final fantasy 7 and the series in general.

Even if what we experienced touched all of us and changed the whole world back in 1997, it doesn't mean that reality represents a "singularity" despite how impactful it was to any of us personally. The inherit nature of our reality is ever changing and shifting in a cycle of death and rebirth and everything we do is something in between. It's a game like FFVII that illustrates a higher ideal, where the things that really matter survive on as a manifestation from the lifestream, and the real message is that our creative power can channel these long forgotten virtues into something that honors the past. The producers of REMAKE know this, which is why we can rest assured the REMAKE series is just as much a labor of love as the OG, probably even more so despite their profit seeking motive. Consider "New Midgar" the reborn capitol of Shinra after they have probably left most of the planet a wasteland, shows us that even bad actors know the road to hell can be paved with good intentions.

If you don’t like it then you can always play the original game? 🤷🏽‍♂️ stop crying over a new take on a game we all cherish and love. The original was perfect, we didn’t need it remade. I’m glad they’re taking a new direction with remake 🙌🏽

      “We didn’t need it remade”
No, but we wanted it remade for nearly 20 years, that’s literally what the majority asked for since that tech demo released all those years ago. Why is it ok that you’re glad yet others are not allowed to be critical or disappointed?

@@ItsSVO we are all allowed to feel what we feel. I’m saying the original was just perfect, the graphics and MIDI music have their own contemporary charm about them - I wouldn’t change anything about the OG. If people are unhappy with the new one, then they can go back and play the OG, because it really is the perfect game

@@flyaroundyourfire that’s not at all what you said. Why are you now lying after ridiculing the person making the video because he has a different view to you? It seems based on your first post that we’re not allowed to feel what we feel unless it’s overwhelming positivity and to drop our standards however low to do so.

@@flyaroundyourfire Your humility is commendable. I've said things that came off too strong in the past and owning up to that is always a good thing.
