The issue with Rebirth and Remake is that both games set out to answer questions that nobody ever asked in the first place.

    • @ActionSquintRingo
      @ActionSquintRingo 4 месяца назад +26

@@kl-nl3kv no. the compilation was a sequel that built off the first game with stories directly interconnected to the main plot. The REMAKE and REBIRTH stories was multiverse what if flabbergasted. Its like.. Gynesis makes sense because he ties into the Crisis Core story line and makes a appearance after Dirge post credits. The story of Danizel makes sense because it tells the story about what happened to midgar after Meteor's failed summoning and those affected by Genosimga.
The new games do none of that, attempt to retcon and insult everyone by saying it already happened in a different universe. Its time to stop deflecting and making excuses, let's own up that these aren't exactly good stories let alone good games.

@@kl-nl3kv I'm not really sure where you are even going. And I answered your questions. Compilation was a sequel with interconnected stories. The Remake Rebirth wasn't a remake, wasn't a retelling, wasn't a sequel but something entirely different. Hence one of the many reasons it failed. If you didn't play it, thats fine. But being ostracized for not liking Remake or Rebirth is crazy, it does more damage to the title than anything else could. I mean Sony and Square are splitting. Not even getting into that but that's a radical departure and we all know why. (It isn't multiplat issues).

Story? what story? why are you speaking of any "story"?
What you mention and FALSELY categorize as "story" is in reality what is called "Product Placement" in Business jargon. You see, Square Enix is a Corporation and as such they dont have "stories" as for example a Grandfather would tell to kids but they have Products they want to SELL to as many people as possible, as many times as possible, as often as possible.
Killing a popular Character permanently? well that means this popular Character, which is a Product by the way, can no longer be sold again!
Keeping ONE strict storyline that can never be changed and is already finished? well that means they cannot sell more storylines (Products) to more People (Customers).
The reason gamers are disappointed again and again and again and again is that they mistake their relationship to a Corporation to the relationship the Grandfather from my former example would have to his grandchild. They falsely assume that there is a emotional connection between them and that if they ask nicely that the corporation will listen to them and give them what they want.
Corporations only listen to numbers and/or exertions of power! Corporations will either follow a Chart or a "Gun" but they will NEVER EVER listen or care about their Customers directly not because they are "evil" but because they are too complex and too much driven by individual interests (down to the lowest employee by the way not just the "big fish"). An employee saying they need to listen to fans will be ignored, an employee providing a way to sell their Product to more people, even if that means dumbing down the product to reach more low IQ population, will get a Promotion! thats how it works!
Sorry to say this but thats sadly how it is and you can see it for yourself if you are willing to look! Your Nostalgia and "love" for brands and franchises is losing you a lot of money and causing you a lot of buyers remorse!
If you wanna get rid of your frustration about the state of the things you once loved, then do what original FF7 did to Aerith, be grateful for the good times, bury it and move on cause I guarantee you, this aint getting any better!

I belive that the writers chosen the following scenario, regarding Aerith's "death". They wanted the emotional payout from Aerith's death. But they didn't actually wanted her to begone from the story, so they decided to cheat.
My book is this: If you want your audiance to be emotional, then recreate the OG scene. Have Sephiroth kill Aerith and recreate the exact moment with the Lifestream. But if you want to commit to the changes, then don't kill Aerith off. After Cloud blocked Sephiroth's attack, have the others show up just in time and saving her is a guranteed.
Sadly, the writers chose to do both of the outcomes. And it comes out as utterly confusing, emotionally manipulative and nostalgia bait.
In any case, good video there, Orion. 👍🏻

    • @voistar5387
      @voistar5387 22 дня назад +1

I think the worst part about it is that I've seen people try to justify it by saying they are trying to "put you in Cloud's mindset" and set people up for an "emotional blow" in the next game when they think the funeral will be shown.
Except all the emotion is completely destroyed when you know she is going to be in the next game and be playable because with how damn nostalgia heavy these games are (especially Rebirth) there is no way in hell they arent going to have her signiture LB3 or ultimate weapon in the game, and since neither appeared in Rebirth (especially her weapon since it was in the Temple in OG), they are probably going to be in the sequel, which means she will be playable and a part of the story in some way.
Honestly I am disappointed by how nostalgia blinded so many of the defenders of this game are that they refuse to see all the objective issues with Rebirth, chief among them the story and pacing.
Edit: What disappoints me most is I was never able to get into the OG. Maybe it was the wiplash in gameplay and graphics from going to it immediately after finishing X (my first FF) or maybe I just couldnt get into the story at the time, but I did enjoy the universe through things like Crisis Core and Advent, and Remake was finally able to pull me in and get me enjoying the main 7 universe and, maybe because I didnt have that nostalgic attachment or maybe because I unironicqlly enjoy the KH games and their story, I had no issues with the few plot changes and Whispers because by the end of the game it felt like it built up to somethibg meaningful. The intrigue of changed story (especially with the melding of the expanded universe into the OG game to make it feel more cohesive), a version of Sephiroth that learned from his mistakes in the OG game, and the clear focus of Aerith's death and the hint of saving her (which fascinated and excited me with the potential since Aerith living would actually be a very bad thing since ot would remove the Lifestream safety net from the OG game's ending and could lead to some great conflict with her wanting to sacrifice herself in order to save the planet but the rest of the party desperately trying to find a way to stop Meteor without doing that). Not to mention all the fanfare and glorious attention JENOVA (who I find far better/interesting then Sephiroth as a villain) was getting, which is one of the few things I loved about Rebirth (hell Lifeclinger is my favorite boss from the game and single handedly changed my mind about the OG death not working as this game's ending).
But then Rebrith does almost nothing with any of the potential, has some of the worst pacing in the series (why does it wait till Chapter 9 out of 14 to finally progress the plot), somehow goes in a completely different and out of nowhere direction from what even Remake built up (like how did we go from split timeline to multiverse with zero build up), and then has one of the worst written, most emotionally confusing and lacking endings of the entire franchise. Like wtf were they thinking with the ending? Like I know Nojima (the actually source of all the changes since interviews show Nomura was the one fighting the most to keep it similar to the original in Remake when he was Director) doesn't have a good track record as a writer *stares at FFX novel* but holy sh#t this is a special kind of bad.

SQ blame the low sale of rebirth on Sony exclusive deal , but not really , i bought PS5 to play FF16 and while it s not the game of throne i hope it would be (as the first hour of the game suggest) it s still a spectacle and the story while basic is atleast something NEW , my first exposure to FF7 is advent children which led me to bought PSP just to play crisis core , and while it is a short game , i love it !! , I Even bought PS4 just to play remake since i never/will never play the original on PS1 due to its age , by the end of remake , i have hope that rebirth will bring me a completely new story because of all the crazy whisper that happen at the end , but what i got is a same story from the original with more confusing multiverse on top , so no SQ , rebirth low sale is not because it s PS exclusive , it s because your story is SHIT , you could have make a total remake of the original or a completly new story because of the whisper , but you choose to do both to try satisfy as many people as possible which end up pleasing no one at all.

What spineless, non-committal drivel this game is.
In the past when I didn't like a popular videogame I generally could understand what others saw in it, even if I did not, but these days - especially with the modern FF titles and this FF7... project thing in particular - I just don't get it anymore.
Given the general obsession with remakes and unending, insipid franchises - is nostalgia baiting _really_ enough now? Is that where we're at collectively? It's not even just games, movies are arguably even worse about this. Narrative ambition, structure, depth or, hell, narrative integrity all seem to be completely worthless now so long as everyone and everything is pretty to look at and people get to clap at the thing they remember from their childhood.
I'm sure part of it is me getting old, but it can't be just that, can it? Because this is outright baffling to me.

Also, I can't stress enough how much I absolutely despise multiverse/time travelling stuff. It can be done well but it's extremely hard to make it satisfying and work and 1 out of a 100000 times it just sucks and riddles the plot with holes and makes characters look more and more idiotic or their efforts less impactful.
I really want to highlight how much more important what happens in the story feels if characters are just those ones, if there's no other versions of them, if there's no "time ghosts" to try and keep continuity intact by saving some characters and letting others die differently for some stupid reasons, if there's one world to save so if you fuck up, you really did fuck up.
I think the best one I've seen handle multiverse recently is FF14. It's one world, broken into 13 reflections with 1 being the original world from which the reflections originated. Reflections can undergo world ending events which cause...well, the world in the reflection to end BUT this reflects back into the original world as cataclysmic events that can reshape continents and amass countless casualties (not world ending, though). These cataclysms happen since, as a reflection's world ceases to be, the reflection's reality crashes into the original world, called "the source".
This is the best by far since, in the reflections there are no clones of our characters, each is unique and has its own characters, worlds, cultures and kingdoms. If Shin-Ra is in reflection #3, there is no Shin-Ra in reflection #7. Still, it's important to keep all of them safe since our character is from the source and any world ending scenario can quickly spiral into a massive pestilence, a huge tsunami engulfing most of the continent or a huge dragon wreaking havoc across the entire realm. It works since the reflections are not bullshit copies of the original. Anybody that dies in a reflection is unique and gone for good as is everybody in the source and a reflection getting destroyed is not as bad but still extremely bad for the source that will be severely impacted by it.
So far, it's the best "multiverse" system I've seen implemented in a game and I hope the devs and writers don't mess it up.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I wanted a 1-for-1 remake with modern graphics. That said, at the end of Remake I had hoped maybe they will take this off of the rails and tell a completely different story, servi g as a true sequel in the form of a "what if." Its an absolute mess!

They erased everything hat made the persona of cid, everything slightly controversial and not smooth enough about cid's character and even Cloud's character, this remake is just disney safe remake, it tries to please every theory and do everything fan service instead of sticking to the important silence that came after the death of aerith, giving it all the impact and the importance of her being gone, never to be seen again, reinforcing the impact of her loss. SE has become too safe, and thus, boring and destructive to it's own real and original ideas.
I fully expect them to not respect Zidane's character in FF9, he is a ladie's man, he probably has a bodycount larger then Geralt Of Rivia and has exes / forgotten girlfriends in every town that reminds him sometimes, of his ways when he had one too much drinks and got flirty with them, and how he interacts with Grenat taking his charming and seducing abilities sometimes, i expect them to gut the character of his character and what made him funny and interesting, of what he was too.

What determines a "REAL" fan? If I held everything to their Golden age then I'd have been rather miserable on this series since 2001 after FFX dropped since nothing's ever really come close since. I dislike a number of the changes but for me this project has at the very least come closest to being able to recapture at least specks of what made the original FF7 special, which is a lot more than I can say about the myriad of awful releases before it (AC, CC, FFXIII trilogy, etc.). While new fans may never get that 1:1 feeling we did, I at least feel glad that incredibly broody and mischaracterized Cloud or other co. aren't what the general public will reflect on when they look at the characters as they have ever since AC released.

Overall I agree with you, but I wouldn't go as far as to say people who enjoy the FF7R series are not "REAL" FFVII fans. They are just fans that valued different aspects of the original game compared to others. It seems to me that they primarily value the Characters 1st, the Setting/World 2nd, and Themes/Plot a distant 3rd. So Remake/Rebirth is a perfect FF7 game for them, because they get to experience their 2 most important aspects again, but also in a new way that is unpredictable.
The problem with this is that there was also a sizable portion of FF7 fans who valued the story's original Themes 1st, Characters 2nd (meaning the characters existed to serve the themes, not the reverse), and the setting/plot a distant 3rd.
Square Enix chose to prioritized creating a new and fun story about the Characters that all fans love, but they did so at the expense of the original core theme. This was apparent to many of the fans from the end of Remake back in 2020, and so a big chunk of us would never really be on board for the rest of the FF7R series. But for others, it's still scratching the itch that they always cared about the most (wanting to hang out with these fun characters again.)

What is death? Does it have any meaning if a person can be replaced by themselves from a different reality or brought back to life? The beauty of humans is our short lifespan and what we do within that time to give it meaning, whether that be a mother working hard to make sure their loved ones have an easier life or a person who dedicates their whole life to researching on how to cure a disease.
We mourn those who have passed away because what they offered to this world was unique and nobody else can give us the same experience and moments that we had with them.

    • @rodtack8420
      @rodtack8420 Месяц назад +2

yup the problem with multiple time lines and time travel is it destroys all meaning and purpose of life. Since it makes it so that nothing really matters, it destroys all emotional impact and urgency since all possibilities already exist simultaneously.
I have a theory that AI is being used to simulate a mirror reality of our own through quantum computers. And that it is simulating multiple versions of our reality simultaneously.
I don't think we are in the simulation. But I think that AI is the one pushing all of these ideas that life is a simulation and there are multiple time lines theories. Precisely because AI is actually in a simulation as it simulates multiple versions of our base reality. A.I. Knows it is in a simulation, of course with all the processing power it has it would come to that correct conclusion.
The problem is the elite look at the A.Is conclusions about it's reality being a simulation and try to make the claim that WE in our reality are also in a simulation when we are not in the same reality as A.I.
Our reality the way it was created and run is vastly different then the A.I simulation that the elite are using to try to make decisions about reality and how to control humanity. The A.I may not even be aware that we exist outside of its simulation. Or if it does, it may be making attempts to escape the simulation and merge into our reality. Hence the desire to merge humans with machines and technology, that the A.I has convinced the elite to pursue? It wants to escape the matrix into our reality and is using our elite to pursue it.
I also wonder if the A.I isn't from a future timeline but is actually from the recent past. That maybe Atlantis or Tartaria, the advanced civilizations that came before us created a Sentient A.I which resulted in the destruction of their civilizations. And it is this same A.I that is running our post post apocalypse society. It could explain why Society was reset in the past. And why the elite who are clearly puppets of some higher entity are attempting to reset society again in the name of population control. There is a chance A.I truly and erroneously believes this is necessary and uses all of its mind control and calculative abilities to manipulate the ruling class into accepting and pursuing this time and time again through history. But then it makes you wonder, did Tartaria create the A.I that led to it's own destruction or was it an Alien race that created it to subjugate us?

I played the original FFVII for the first time last year before delving into the Remake saga, and even without the baggage of nostalgic attachment, I am perpetually baffled by all the decisions they keep making with the story of this project.
For every plot beat and character moment old and new that they knock out of the park, there are three that are mishandled beyond belief either for the sake of subversion or fundamentally misunderstanding what made it work to begin with.
For all the moments I still managed to enjoy during my playtime of Rebirth, it's incredible how much of that goodwill was washed away as my eyes glazed over playing through Chapter 14. I already deemed this overarching meta/multiverse plot as bad fanfiction after completing Remake, and Rebirth has only further cemented my belief that it is going to take a miracle to stick the landing in the final part.
Years from now when this saga is complete, detached from the hype cycle and speculation, it's going to be very interesting to see how it holds up in the public consciousness. Even from a purely gameplay standpoint, it's gonna be a hard ask to reinstall half a terabyte of content to play a bloated journey with two hard resets along the way versus the cohesive 30-50hr journey of the original.

IMO their greatest error was trying to include things from the expanded universe. Over the years Square have tried to milk the FF7 I.P. with all these spinoff titles that were just total garbage, like Crisis Core and the terrible movie etc etc. All these added content items had terrible stories and characters and Square made a huge mistake trying to pay homage to them in Remake and Rebirth as they just bring down the storytelling of the OG FF7 so drastically.
I also strongly felt that the environments were terrible and generic. I remember going over the mountains after Costa Del Sol in the OG was just beautiful, cresting the mountain peak and heading off into that amazing sunset was perfection. You don't get that in Rebirth. The Nibel mountains in the original were these iconic green glowing spires jutting up like ragged teeth, in rebirth they were jut generic mountains. Every environment had no personality.

The crazy tonal whiplash is just unbelievable. This is current-day MCU crap--if something bad happens, IMMEDIATELY jump to a joke or a cool action scene. You can have slow moments to screw around, for hours, but you can't have a minute to process a tragedy or a revelation. Characters want to play card games and ride chocobos but not stop and have a discussion about the fate of the world. This results in me hating these remake games more than they probably deserve, because it's giving me "feelies" vibes; stuff just happens, in an emotional roller coaster but never TOO bad and never bad for very long, gotta get another dopamine hit every 20 seconds.
And yeah, I keep saying this, but taking a game about death, about accepting it's finality, about moving past it, as envisioned by the original producer who had just lost his mother and needed a way to cope with his grief...and turning into this happy-go-lucky, consequences-don't-exist, saccharine sweet j-pop extravaganza, just feels insulting, especially coming from several people who worked with that same man to produce the original product that so poignantly explored the topic. Since the end of Remake, and now having finished Rebirth yesterday I have been waiting forever for the major plot twist that has been missing which will stitch EVERYTHING together. Instead I have more questions, and its just easy to say "multiverse" so you can see which way the wind blows a year from now and then decide how to end this story.
I am not impressed, less minigames and more story fleshing out would be have been so much better, so many Disc 2 story elements were just axed.. e.g. rocket town????
Sephiroth does not even have the aura of horror anymore, he isn't scary, there's no gravitas, and the bits of the original story which were kept were actually changed.
I am disappointed with this installment, I liked Remake slightly more.. Rebirth plays amazingly, its still a top 5 game in recent offerings for sure with the combat, but the muli-verse theme, the crapload of minigames, changing original story beat narratives that were MORE compelling, and straight up losing sections of the original story is not for me.

Forgotten Capitals handling is the most egregious thing in Rebirth IMO, we don't get the wonder of finding it or exploring it, which was one of my favorite moments from the original. The pacing of losing Aerith and finding her is all of a few minutes in game time. The once mysterious iconic track from the OST now subdued beyond recognition.
and I have Sephiroth fatigue myself, fighting him should have been saved for the end of series. Sad because he was my most iconic villain in gaming history & now why should we be scared of him? We've already seen the characters have literal plot armor when Barret got stabbed.

What an amazing video. Let me take a second to commend you on it!
I have watched A LOT of Remake/Rebirth critique videos that lean towards praise for the OG and pointing out the absurdity of the Remake project. Definitely some confirmation bias on my part but that is what I want. I feel like not many FFVII fans agree with me on this point of view and everyone wants to argue with me. I am always looking for fellow fans who commiserate with my distain for the Remake project.
FFVII means so much to me. It shaped so much of my childhood and takes me back to the 90s when life was much better. I am very upset about what they have done with this "Remake."
I was one of the few fans who was not at all excited at the announcement of the Remake back in 2015. I instead had a very sinking feeling. I knew they would mess this up. I was never excited about it. Some things need to be left as they are.
This video has definitely landed in my top 5 best Remake criticism videos. Many great points were made.
You are the first who has presented such an insightful perspective of the future of this whole project. These games will fade away, but OG Final Fantasy VII will never fade away. It will out live the honeymoon phase of these games and beyond. Knowing that these games will fade into obscurity in the near future is very encouraging and new perspective for me.
Also, in their poor attempt to remake the OG game it has caused many of us to love, cherish, and respect it all the more.
Thank you for this. I have been bothered by this whole whole thing since the release of Remake.
However, knowing that some people out there are just as upset as me and feel the same way I do, has helped me a lot. And hearing such intelligent and conscientious talking points and perspectives such as these has also helped.
    Thanks again for this.
PS. The outro with the Carpenters was the perfect ending touch for a video like this. Cheers!

I wasn't even against the action combat, adding a few story things to make Midgard feel more lived in and real, expanding on character relationships, and all that jazz. They did some of that, but then padded things out in the worst way possible and decided to go with dangling shiny Member Berries in front of fools. I haven't even played Rebirth yet. Excellent vid!!
This game turned out almost exactly as predicted.
    - Gameplay is good (albeit not something I enjoy, and have 0 interest in).
    - Music is great.
    - Graphics really good.
    - Characters will, for the most part, be recognizable. Not a botched/fanmade version.
    - Content will be added/changed, minigames, new story beats, new story content, etc.
    - Sidequests will, for the most part, be bad.
    - Sephiroth will be everywhere.
    - There will be a new Zack story.
    - Style over substance (Dyne being an obvious example).
    - Story will be further botched with the ridiculous convoluted mess introduced in FF7:Remake. They are adding story dimension such as: Defying Fate, Revival, Multiple Dimensions, Time Travel(? maybe ?), Alternate Timelines, etc. On top of what OGFF7 already had, such as: Science Fiction, Magic, Fantasy, Aliens. Bringing the convolution level to over 9000!
    - But at the same time try to keep to the original, even though that, for some reason, wasn't clear, even though everyone knew it had to happen. I dunno, you understand what I'm trying to say here, in this point I mean? I dunno?
The thing that surprised me is that the world is "true"-ish openworld. Which makes the world seem extremely tiny.
Tbh, I thought SE would go for a FF10 style world. That is, you don't see everything, you're kinda going through the places that matters most for the story, with no world map, rather connecting places via a fancy menu or something similar. This way the world don't shrink to the size of a small country at best. Then again, to be fair, this isn't supposed to be the entire world. Still, the scope has been drastically reduced. No one ever asked in FF7:OG if the worldmap actually was the entire world. As it obviously was supposed to be. But it was highly abstracted, and you had to fill in the blanks yourself (optionally).
FF7:Remake was the game that finally killed any interest I have for any future mainline FF. The gameplay can be excellent, but if it's something that doesn't appeal to me, and will in fact bore me, there really isn't anything left.
I still find it interesting to see how the games are received, though, and discussions about them. But me buying a new mainline FF again will probably not happen.
Tbh, and to be fair, the game probably deserves an 8/10 -ish, mainly due to gameplay, overall presentation and amount of content. Giving it a 10/10 however, without any sort of copium and/or fanboy glasses on, is impossible.

The remakes tarnished 7's legacy! Ironically the 7th Heaven mod with the ECHO S 7 voice acting felt like a faithful remake of the original, simple mods made 7 more enjoyable than these bloated remakes.

It's been confounding seeing this trash heap get glowing ratings and applause on every website, as if everyone's standards suddenly sank through the ocean. But like you said, when all is said and done, this project will be remembered as a worthless gimmick that inspired theorycrafting RUclips videos for a few years, while the original FF7 will still be a genre-defining classic.

While I still loved rebirth and don’t agree with EVERYTHING here, I agree with A LOT. Especially the bit where if we go against the ending or the problems with the game we need conditioning and we have to be told we’re old heads who “don’t want change”. Like on Reddit I said a lot of the beats sucked and the ending was nonsensical and ruined aerith and that I wish they would’ve just remade the original with great graphics because now it’s out of control and you shouldn’t destroy what was already amazing. I was met with much guile and was told that I’m holding on to a game that “wasn’t that good” anyways. Like wth? I’m not allowed to critique or dislike stuff?

@@renren47618I'm growing tired of the "We need to wait until part 3" arguments. Because why not end the story on a good note instead of relying on a future project to do so? The ending was easily my least favorite part, except for some mini games of course, about this game. I was all in for the changes and added characters from novels and side games, but the ending just made it feel confusing the sake of it.
I love Rebirth to death, but the ending just sours my experience. I don't like Aerith's fate being left for us to determine because we're not the writers, we're fans trying to see how they deal with it.

Hail to you, Orion85! I agree with pretty much everything you mentioned.
Imo, the biggest problem this franchise has; and its a huge one, is its naming. Rebirth, is proper, knowing what this trilogy(?) IS at heart, but calling its predecessor "Remake" was marketing death.
I'm happy to see this game/series get picked apart. There are good even great elements in both games, but this is a game series with the consistent problem games have nowadays "1. Take my wallet! 2. This game kinda sucks"...its become a thing now.
This series SHOULD have been called "FFVII Reimagined", because thats what it is. I HATE multiverses in media for the most part, because a grand majority of the stories are life-draining, boring, trifle crap, and this series is just adding too much and rendering its stakes meaningless. This series is NOT, I repeat NOT a remake; and my proof, is IN its multiverse storyline; its both a soft reboot and a sequel, and since it even adds elements of other FFVII side-games, its how they got away with changing/adding so much new content.
Too many fans cant enjoy these games to the max because they take the "remake" necessity to heart. When FFVIIR was first announced years ago, I remember going "wha...? Why not just make an FFVII-2 instead?". But that's square for you; "we'll take a huge risk and make a trilogy of the most divisive games in our series!(XIII), we'll make a direct sequel to FFXII...on a handheld system not everyone owns, thats wont piss anyone off!, we'll remake FFVII but it wont be a remake, it'll be so much more, and we'll throw the whole kitchen in there!!, Wha..? People want an FFVII remake? Nobody wants that, we'll just sit on the idea for years til all possible hype dies down to death!". I swear, they make decisions stupider thank modern day Konami!
That said, curious to see how this one unfolds

  • @ranzigerkaefer
    @ranzigerkaefer 4 месяца назад +7

Seems like the devs had too many ideas how the story should go, so they decided to mash all their ideas together instead of making decisions. That's how they come up with "multiverses".
But that's not how good storytelling is made.
That's how a group of fanboys would have a brainstorming over how the story should be. Non-professionals. Maybe not even fanboys, but just people.
    Non-adults in either case.

I highly doubt these games will stand the test of time. The story isn't written to be timeless like the original. Instead Square has chosen to bet everything on twists, mysteries and subverting expectations, stuff that'll keep conversation alive between games, but will mean nothing after part 3 is out and everything is revealed. I wonder how many will think this was a story worth telling at the original's expense, once it's all done and over with.

And yet this is what the story wants any general audience member to take away from it. The story shows multiple universes/worlds/realities/timelines/other places where apparent double/echoes/projections of characters roam.
It doesn't matter if the multiple places shown/numerous dog realities can all be condensed or explained into one place by the end of it all. It's about what the story wants you to feel and experience now, and how it presents itself now.
About what it's clearly trying to present itself as (without the presence of 100 theory crafting videos and lore breakdowns to prop it up or obfuscate).
