I always thought Sephiroth to be the extreme of Nature whereas Shinra was the extreme of technology. As Sephiroth expanded the concept of Nature to the rest of the Universe once he realized what his mother was, and most of the Universe is the abcense of life. Even Cid's sidequest makes him look back from his shuttle at the Planet, loosing his interest in the romance of the cosmos. The Cetra is like a fine balance, that which says the human/player is like a cell in the larger organism of thw World, which holds life due to the rarest of chances (or miracle, as Aerith has a praying motif). Shinra would be a cancer then, and Sephiroth/jenova a parasite.
That main theme of the overworld roaring to life after escaping Midgar and realizing that hours of the game took place in *one city* is the kinda scope you didn't really see before 1997. The music challenges to chase down Sephiroth and save the world.
I think that Sephiroth and Aerith travel back in time from the original game timeline to the Remake timeline via the Lifestream and they are working against each other throughout the remake.
The only problem with it is that we don't see future aerith. The whispers can be a manifestation of the souls of the dead of the cetras vs the human corrupted by jenova and it's just a long war between them, many of the theories can be attributed to cloud madness

So yeah, great retelling and I didn't know a lot about the supplemental materials to begin with. Thumbs up here.
"The Powers That Be haven't even made it into space yet, they have so much else going on" That makes sense when you think about it. The real-world Space Race was driven by the Cold War, and there's nothing like that going on in FFVII's world.

Playing through FF6 recently, and I never realized just how much FF6 and FF7 have in common when it comes to story and themes. Zeitgeist of the time, I suppose. Magically infused super heroes and villains, ancient god/goddess that are aliens, magic coming to prominence again, etc. Sure the story beats are a bit different but much of the story outline is very much the same. I loved the sci-fi and high fantasy infusion of this era of FF. I would have loved to see it developed more.

FFVII has definitely become the embodiment of a fan service series. Every character is getting its moment whether through a dedicated game or an expanded backstory in the remake. And we're now delving into alternate timelines and time travel shenanigans to provide that "what if" fan wet dream in droves which is the defining trope of fan service driven content destined to milk a franchise to its last drop. Been wanting to get FF7, but always been hesitant. Gonna get it, so sponsor well spent. First sponsor I've purchased a total of 0 advertised games/anything in 10 years. Touché square, you got me this time :D
One of the worst Final Fantasy games ever made. Horrible side quests, horrible combat simulator challenges, horrible mini games, and a new plot that fails to faithfully retell the original story in favor of convoluted alternate timeline nonsense.
The greatest trick Square Enix ever pulled was convincing people to pay $60 for a remake of 1/3 of a game from 1997, as well as paying full-price again a year later for the enhanced versions.
As someone who got into FF7 through the remake, i think i agree. I think it’s very unecessary as the original is a masterpiece and already has so, so much going on. There are so many stories, characters and themes that are explored and, considering how amazing the remake already is while being mostly accurate to the original, I can’t help but find a bit… disruptive. Most of the remake was taking things, scenes and moments from the original and expanding upon them, improving them immensely and adding new things wich do both. The remake is one of my favorite games, but even as someone who started out with it, i’m not the biggest fan of the so-called ‘plot-ghosts’ and even less of the multiple timeline thing.
Another RPG that tries a similar twist with Cloud, and might even be more philosophically interesting, is Tales of the Abyss. The protagonist, Luke, is revealed to have been a clone of the actual Luke that got swapped several years before the game started. So when the original Luke comes back he's now a complete stranger to his own family, while the clone has to cope with the fact he effectively stole someone else's entire existence.

Tbh, the more i hear about the meta fate-ghosts, the more 9 absolutely hate them as a concept, hahaha. This has convinced me to check out the original though! Amazing vid, as always! 😊
FF7 having a range of tones is great. For years, I only knew the FF7 gang from Kingdom Hearts and Dissidia. SE really went all in on making everything serious and edgy so I was shocked when I saw the game had wacky and funny stuff like like Cait Sith.
Cloud's original characterization is that of a poser, emulating an actual Chad, that through sheer force of will becomes a Chad in his own right. All subsequent iterations forget the first part and just make him a generic badass.
Wow this was really good, like i dunno why but you did that thing you do when you anapyse the game from relase perspective but also how it influenced the legacy of the franchise rffectjng thr next game in timeline? Like some really good cause and affect storytelling Also congrats on the sponser!
Gonna stop you there bro, Ambivalent is not the same as apathetic Ambivalent is having strong but opposing feelings Cloud at the start could give zero shits about the cause, hes not grappling with the morality of his actions

I was wondering if he was ever going to cover the FF7 remake since its basically Kingdom Hearts adjacent in gameplay. Never expected hed get a full sponsership!
Bruh this game is made by the FF13 crew and plays just like action FF13. It plays nothing like KH aside from the menu and that menu was based on FF If you try to play this game like KH you're going to die. But if you play it like FF13 using specific moves at the right times to stagger while buffing and debuffing you win
@aroccoification the combat designer for KH2, Mitsunori Takahasi, did the prototype game design for FF7R, so there's some shared blood there. The stagger system is from FF13, but FF15 and 16 also use that system, so this game is as much action-FF13 as those games are. Also we had an Action FF13 with Lightning Returns. Main difference it the latter had 1 character who swaps between multiple classes with not much in terms of movement options, where as this game focuses on character switching and mateira loadouts
@@UltimateAnimeGamer dude it's literally made by the team who did FF13 and X-2. I didn't realize the combat designer from kh2 was still workimg their. Square has never had a better battle system since then
@@zeroskaterz92 what? I played the demo and beat remake several times including on hard dude. It's not my opinion that it's made by the same people as FF13 and x-2. It's very clearly a new version of that gameplay. This game plays nothing like KH aside from the menus and those were based on classic FF anyway
Nothing I mean nothing has made me want to possibly pick up the OG more than this kind of retrospective discussion you have presented, I was originally just going to comment on how bold the statement the title of this video presents, but- I don’t think I’ve ever seen as many different gameplay scenes from the OG in one video either and that makes it seem a lot more interesting. Visuals/graphics are everything to me. I am not a huge fan of the visual pixelated art that continuously fluctuates between the Chibi style and tries to be more sophisticated sometimes, but ultimately fails ? they tried, though, they tried, and it shows I guess. But my first Final Fantasy game was FFX so I have a bit of a standard that I expect from in-game graphics that seven never really met But this game definitely has a superior story too most if not, any video game ever I love… I love that Cloud Is actually a nobody😂😂 I have never felt so compelled by a character that is loved by so many for the wrong reasons. I’d like to say that this game or more specifically the remake and rebirth really “tickle my sadistic, funny bone“ And I love it, the last thing I ever expected was one of the very first games I ever heard about way back in 2014 to re-emerge in such a big way and blow my mind❤❤❤❤❤❤ I mean, holy crap, I never looked up so much information on this thing until remake came out and the graphics were amazing and I was like here take my money. I get to play this fucking game.🤣🤣 now I might actually give the OG a go, I bought it and I tried playing it, but there wasn’t much compelling me to go on with it then but now I might
My favourite final fantasy games are X, X-2, 8, 12, 13 , 13-2, 7 remake and rebirth. I played a bit back in the day, final fantasy 7 but it never hooked me like 8 did.

26:30 the persona he exudes as a SOLDIER falls in line with him mimicking Sephiroth
Now all we need is Capcom to sponsor you for the next DMC
Wow. Sponsored by Square Enix.
Even square recognized how much of a chad charlie is
The existence of this video is one more reason not to buy it.
Wait come to think of it how did Nanaki procreate?
Wow this was really good, like i dunno why but you did that thing you do when you anapyse the game from relase perspective but also how it influenced the legacy of the franchise rffectjng thr next game in timeline?
Like some really good cause and affect storytelling
Also congrats on the sponser!
How do you have time to play all these games!? I'm still finishing up FF16!
Well dude, at least you're being paid.
My condolences anyway.
Fuck the remakes.
Gonna stop you there bro, Ambivalent is not the same as apathetic
Ambivalent is having strong but opposing feelings
Cloud at the start could give zero shits about the cause, hes not grappling with the morality of his actions
Thank you.
A good example would be:
"Well crap, I only have enough money for one new game, but there's two I want, and I want them both the same! What to pick, what to pick..."
I was wondering if he was ever going to cover the FF7 remake since its basically Kingdom Hearts adjacent in gameplay.
Never expected hed get a full sponsership!
Bruh this game is made by the FF13 crew and plays just like action FF13. It plays nothing like KH aside from the menu and that menu was based on FF
If you try to play this game like KH you're going to die. But if you play it like FF13 using specific moves at the right times to stagger while buffing and debuffing you win
@@aroccoification You clearly don't know wtf you're talking about and obviously never even play Rebirth demo.
But my first Final Fantasy game was FFX so I have a bit of a standard that I expect from in-game graphics that seven never really met
But this game definitely has a superior story too most if not, any video game ever
I love… I love that Cloud Is actually a nobody😂😂 I have never felt so compelled by a character that is loved by so many for the wrong reasons. I’d like to say that this game or more specifically the remake and rebirth really “tickle my sadistic, funny bone“
And I love it, the last thing I ever expected was one of the very first games I ever heard about way back in 2014 to re-emerge in such a big way and blow my mind❤❤❤❤❤❤
I mean, holy crap, I never looked up so much information on this thing until remake came out and the graphics were amazing and I was like here take my money. I get to play this fucking game.🤣🤣 now I might actually give the OG a go, I bought it and I tried playing it, but there wasn’t much compelling me to go on with it then but now I might
Honestly......as someone who has never gotten into turn based rpgs. That Zack cloud twist was something i never knew.
Anyone wondering: yes this will spoil you everything. EVERYTHING. So watch if you dont mind.
I need someone to explain the mobile game lore to me
Did you tell them to get their heads out of their asses about NFTs?
So if I talk smack about a company's latest release, they'll sponsor me to retell the story of the game I compared is unfavorably to? Hell yeah.
chronologically this summary is. a mess! Damn it's hard to follow
you dense is all
My favourite final fantasy games are X, X-2, 8, 12, 13 , 13-2, 7 remake and rebirth. I played a bit back in the day, final fantasy 7 but it never hooked me like 8 did.
