This is one of the first songs I learned and went to play it the other day and forgot the opening riff. And here you come to save the day. Your channel is such a great resource for guitar players.
Marty, you have gotten noticeably better over the years. You are more relaxed in your playing and look like you are having more fun.
Wow, thanks!
@@MartyMusic It shows that a realy good player gets better when teaching others. Thank you.
@@MartyMusicYou’re bad ass , bruv! A whole Universe of guitar players down to you. Sir Marty
Now what a classic! Very iconic riff and melody, making for a great lesson. Cheers
Can you do Cochise by audioslave
Glad you like it!
I have
Can you teach us Urgent by Foreigner? You are the Best teacher
@@MartyMusic the death of me by city and colour. I’m a beginner and that seems like an “easy” song to start playing
I’ve been playing this since high school (40 years ago!). That JL Hooker-ish riff and that jump to C for the solo, and the line cliche turn-around never gets old! BG uses a quarter as a pick btw. I tried that once, but nah, sticking with the Dunlop 73s!
Do you have a tip for reaching the 6th fret with the pinkie when doing the powerchord?
@@vibes8763 You mean 5th fret? I wish I did. Maybe my hands are larger than yours, I don't have an issue.
@@vibes8763The first 2 year, stretches like that were annoying. As a 4 year player, i have absolutely no problem with it. I think your hand will just naturally get more comfortable stretching like that as you play more and more, if something on guitar is giving you trouble then it really is just a matter of drilling it, there isnt really a 'secret'
There's no way you haven't done this one before, I refuse to believe it. Amazing as always Marty, thanks!
I tried to make a better lesson this time. I'm always trying to do better myself
@@MartyMusic How can I make a song request, is that on your website?
@@jamesrichardson4988You have to learn the song you’re nominating, play it and film it and send it to Marty. Then he’ll teach it to you.
@@noimspartacus4357Thats kinda silly, youre already learning the song just to learn again? 😅
You can never play too much ZZ Top
Or learn 😂😂😂
I love you Marty! I have been down with you since day one. You are the original Don Dada! This is where it started. You taught me the roots. I believe my first song I learned from you was In The Pines. Thank you Marty for your positive groovy leasons!
Thanks for being the best online teacher the world has ever seen Marty ❤ hopefully one day we can have a jam ! Love from Australia
I hope so too!
Who doesn't love ZZ TOP? This is a great classic & the lesson is too. Nice guitar btw Marty. You make what seems to be hard not so hard & learning this means a lot. Thanks!!!
I believe i asked before about the pinch harmonics, thank you Marty for showing the technique
You bet!
For some strange reason I always thought this would be beyond my capabilities, but Marty, my man, you had me playing this riff in no time.
So much of being a good instructor (especially on video) is understanding pacing the lesson; you're great at showing enough detail without bogging down in it.
I appreciate that!
Amazing song, keep up the good work man!
Hahaha, anyone else ever watch Marty filming his opening and get the feeling he would just rather keep on jammin and skip the lesson? Thanks for the lesson Marty, awesome as usual!
Me!
Such a good song. Thanks for the lesson Marty!
My pleasure!
That choking up on the pick is really great stuff, among a bunch of other seriously great nuggets I got down from this. Thanks, Marty!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Best song lesson the internet. The song plus extra invaluable lessons. Genius. I paid twenty bucks a half hour for these lessons for four years.

It is about time I tightened up my Lagrange. You taught me this tune when I was a beginner. Thank you Marty!
And…. yes your hat game is always tight Marty!

Rock on!
Great tutorial. Love the deep dive into the picking tone!
Another fantastic lesson. Killer blues riff! Thanks for showing how to do the "pinch harmonic" and explaining how "The Rev" switches keys from A to C.
One of my favourite ZZ Top songs. The song itself rocks, but my favourite part of the song is when they do 0:37 - 0:50
Your the best teacher of anybody on the net you show it enough and go slow enough and go throu it enough times so I get it thank you so much I can play I'm so freaking excited I'm 69 now I have 17 guitars 8 drum sets 25 harmonicas it's about time I play the guitar I play every thing else yaa hoo

You should do ain’t that some by Morgan Wallen. It’s got a very catchy riff throughout the whole song.
How many years of Marty and no La Grange until now?
You're always opening my eyes to new things about the guitar, thanks for doing what you do man.
This is such a great lesson. Learn the Common Blues Scale motivation and blues licks. Make it your own + La Grange.
Thanks great show the other night
Best lesson youve done so far. Well done my man. Awesome 😎👍
you are one inspiring dude! I swear I would be lost without your videos.
Hey Marty! What pedal are you using for the driven sound?? Sounds awesome!!!
Great lesson. Thanks Marty
This riff is based off of Boogie Chillen by John Lee Hooker. The same riff is used for On the Road Again by Canned Heat and Spirit in the Sky by Norman Greenbaum.
Such a great instructor you are Marty!!!.... thanks for all your hard work!!
We love you Marty

Okay, got the notes right but I‘m really struggling with the upstrokes and deadnotes. Gotta find a way to practice this rhytm 😵💫
Such a great video, thanks Marty. It‘s such a blessing to get teaching like this for free ♥️
It’s good to try to match the original. It helps to keep learning but don’t be afraid to make it your own or play it a little differently. Sometimes, you just have to find a workaround.
hey i dont know if its just me but i would love for you to cover a ren song, he has been making rounds around the internet lately and i love his music
Congratulations on your tv show well be watching..
Awesome! Thank you!
When Tres Hombres came out I played it over and over and over until I could play every song on that great album.
Do sharp dressed man next !!
Perfect! Thank you
Every Truck commercial
i heard gibbons talking about 7's being where it's at so i strung my cheapest guitar with 7-38's and they are dynamite, like they are liquid man. i do not have a guitar hand and cannot contort my fingers like you guys do so i have to work harder. the 7's just cut my work load in half and you can actually tell i'm playing a guitar, like i only have to fake it half as much. 7's, a good tip for a guy like me, you gotta get used to them though.
sorry , i just remind , it's "long way home" from Popa Chubby , i love
Marty: 200% good health to you Sir.
Dang what a good job , hey Marty me and my band covers that my rhythm guitarist got the easy job as for me I have the hard jobs of doing all the leads
